What service provider do you have? Some times you'll have to set the APN or select the provider in settings.

You probably have to take the phone directly to them than since they can set up their ip and APN in the phone for you.. I don't know what their APN settings and stuff are but they will so it's best to go to the store and ask them to do it!

WIFI
He should be able to surf the web using WIFI alone, even without a SIM card in the phone. WIFI and data work independently of each other.

I updated the rom yesterday and now I am having problems connecting to the internet. SMS messages are ok and the phone but when I try to access the internet I get an error saying that there is a problem with my connection.
I had no problem using the internet with the custom 2.24 rom. Can I go back to it? Or am I stuck with 2.26?
You really need to provide more info like carrier and the settings you are using.
Sorry,
I am using T-mobile and I use wap.voicestream.com.
Sorry, I'm on Cingular, can't help but now maybe someone else can...
If you don't have the full internet package, are you sure you entered the proxy information and if so, correctly? If you ARE subscribed to the full internet package, try internet2.voicestream.com and see if you make out any better.

Where would you enter "internet2.voicestream.com"? I've never used it and haven't had any trouble getting on the net. However, I just attempted to use it as a proxy and couldn't access anything...
From what i've been told by Tmobile, is "t-zones" cannot be used to access HTTP (although it can work, but it is a hit and miss). You need to purchase a full fledged Tmobile internet plan to get full access. You would change the settings by going to settings and then connections, connections again and click advanced. Select the network and click edit twice. Make sure the "select a modem" is cellular line *GPRS* and click next. This is where you would change your APN (access point). If it says wap.voicestream.com, change it to internet2.voicestream.com. Now click next and finish and yes to verify.

I'm new to GSM. I received my Kaiser, took the sim out of my treo, placed it in the kaiser, made a call, surfed the Internet, it worked great.
Then I tried to DL email, tried Internet radio and it wont connect. It says to check the network settings. If I turn on WiFi the email and Internet radio work fine.
So I'm guessing I have to put in some settings and its not as easy as just popping in the SIM right?

In messaging you'll find options to add a new account. It's wizard style and if your lucky it will automatically enter you providers in and out e-mail server for you.
I'm at work at present but can post more accurate menus etc later if needs be.
Mike
Thanks for the reply. I have set up the email account on the PPC and it works fine if I'm WiFi'ed in. It also works fine if I'm connected to the laptop threw AS. Streaming Internet radio also works while connected to AS or wifi,,,,
But if AS is disconnected and WiFi is off I cant sync email or stream shoutcast.

Go to start > settings > connections and click on connection setup to start auto setup of your network settings
I thought that was going to be the ticket but it didnt fix it.
When I go start>settings>connections>connections>manage existing connections it shows the isp.cingular ,,,,, should it say ATT?
also you will need to make sure you have a newer USIM from att... if you dont have this then the data wont work correctly...
I fixed it. Under start>settings>connections>Connections I went to manage existeng account and changed the Access point name from isp.cingular to wap.cingular
Thank you all for your help.

Try creating a connection setting with no APN set.
Or simply use Modaco NoData... Google it, it's free!
It's basically a toggle to activate/deactivate data connections.
I use it to avoid roaming data costs!
wow, just what i needed, thank you!!
No problem, glad I could help!
you can tell your service provider and tell them to stop ANY data connection, ATT does that, now even if I use PIE to open google ( without activating wifi) or start fring, it shows there is no data connection available.
Also if ur using fring, u can set the rule for it to connect only through wifi.

Im not sure if tmobile will do that, as all everyone wants it money. Anyways, yes as i stated in the first post, i had set it to "wifi only" yet the phone still connected through data if the wifi connection failed.
But problem is solved.
thanks for the info just what i needed

Data Roaming means using data outside of your country (traditionally) or outside your cell phone providers region. No, you don't have to enable data roaming to use data\go on the internet (unless you ARE roaming).
I have to use my roaming to ex go to google.com on my browser
Hi, I have this s3 mini (SM G730W8) . I have had it for 4 months and never had any problems. But since yesterday, it connects to wifi network internet doesn't work. Chrome says you are offline after trying , apps can't connect etc.
The device works fine on LTE.
Other devices can connect to the same wifi and are working fine, even other samsung devices.
Please advise.

when your phone connects to the wifi does it obtain an ip address?
I believe so, it even shows connected to xyz network. But when I start browsing...nothing!
Oddly enough, even when I try to connect to those free wifi networks which require 'sign in' as opposed to username/password. The 'signin' page doesn't open either!
I would have reflashed stock firmware to see if it solves it, otherwise it must be some hardware failure.
Sent through time and space from my s3mini/CM11
ok, thanks. I will check it out over the weekend.
