my captivate cannot turn on at all
NO galaxy s, NO atnt screen, NOTHING
dead like without battery (but i am sure the battery is half full cos i tried it on another phone)
computer won't recognize it when usb plugged
cannot charge at all, no charging screen
SO NO download mode, NO recovery mode
tried all those remove sim, remove sd, remove battery, turn on odin first, connect to pc, having 3 buttons (actually all possible combinations) press, power button release, everything i could found on forum...
the only thing i didn't try yet is the 301k resistor
have a fd making that for me, will try that soon
but i doubt it will work since the situation looks very bad
so my question is...
has anyone with the EXACT symptoms, able to unbrick at last?
if u r those who able to unbrick becos ur captivate was still able to turn on
please don't reply, i really really appreciate ur help
but sorry urs wasn't really "brick"
and those solutions aren't what i looking for
if you want to know what i did...
all i did was trying to flash to Cognition v2.3b6 from a stock 2.1 following the wiki
i watched it formatting, copying files, ... , and then it try to reboot
but instead of successful reboot it stay dead forever
great...
tested even with the 301k resistor now
no luck
Yeah sorry man. Looks like you got a bad phone. Time to call att
i wish, but i didn't buy it from atnt
no receipt no shxx
and i am in canada
You know you still have the manufacturer's warranty. One year. Call Samsung and they will refurb it for ya. I got mine in Canada too. No receipt required as long as you have the original barcode on your box.

i got the exactly issue and symptom, anyone got a solution yet ?

You're not holding onto the resistor with bare hands right?
I just get the same problem.
waiting for the solution too.
Have you tried a new battery?
This is my captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.
your Phone most likely not bricked.
I Actually had this same problem. I really thought my phone was bricked. I would pull the battery and put it back in and nothing but a black screen. I ended up having to go into download mode from another computer. If you do this install drivers first and try to go into download by pushing both volume up and down at the same time then plug in usb cable to computer with odin opened up.

the 301k resistor tested on my gf "still" working captivate
it works
I end up took it to some cell repair shop to fix it
they said they had to replace a chip inside
and it cost me cad$150
anyway now it's fixed
but i think i am going to sell it since i don't have much faith in it anymore
i can't keep a phone that i can't flash it just becos it might never boot again
to those who have the same problem
GOOD LUCK
Doesn't it really work with the JIG?
If it doesn't work, I would not try.
If I just give the phone back to the ATT to fix it or change another one, how much should I pay?
thanks.

Hi everyone, I purchased my Xperia TX 2 months ago in Singapore and now I return to my home country- Vietnam. My phone was working good till last week.
I was surfing via 3G on my phone and i remember it was 3% battery left and then BANGGG...My phone turned black and i though it was out of battery.
Then I charged it on wall socket as usual and saw the red notification light as usual but it disappeared after a while. I couldnt turn it on anymore. I charged it for 4 hours and the screen kept the same.
I have tried to press "power +up/down volume" keys and its still frozen. Only the red light vibrates and nothing more.
I DIDNT unlock the boot loader, water, or drop it. I use my phone for daily uses and usually connect with the Sony Companion so I make sure again its not rooted yet.
Finally, I bring it on the customer service and they said its because of my fault to unplugged it when flashing ROM bla bla bla. i though Its because they have not seen any problem like this before since Xperia TX has not been released in Vietnam yet and they could not turn the phone on or connect it to PC. So, I left it there this morning and wait for the result.:crying:
Does anyone have the same problem with me? Is it the hardware or software problem? Is it the Sleep of Death (SOD) mentioned in some thread here? PLEASE show me how to fix it!
Have you tried taking out the battery, wait awhile and put it back again and plug the phone for charging again?
But since it's already in the service center, no need to worry, they can repair whatever the problem is.

you should have tried the backup and restore app of Sony bro, copy the backup to your PC and then restore it later after your phone got back from service center
anyways, next time try that app, it saves a lot of time
and about service center, they are quite very good in service quality

Yesterday i tried removing the battery and it was no use. I am mad because i just lightly used the product for less than 2 weeks, took good care of it, and wont be able to return it because I am in another country. So that is 539 USD wasted.
Hey, anything could solve this problem?
As many threads about this (Or a similar problem) suggest you just need to leave you rphone on charge for at least 24 hours. Use a wll charger not a USB.
Do not touch the phone in this time, just wait. If after this it does not charge, it appears your battery is FUBAR'd
Hey, device more than 24 hours when there is no change, still red light. I had some battery nothing helps. Help please what can be done? Thank you.

Do you know someone else with a phone that yu could borrow their battery to see?
I take it you have checked whether the charger works and tried other chargers?
Another trick I have heard of in the old X10 forum is to cut the end of your charger lead and directly put red wire onto positive end of battery and black wire onto the negative end and charge the battery that way. But do this at your own risk. I have no way of knowing if this will work on the TX and it may even make the battery worse....but for a last chance it may be worth a go.
Edit
Also, its not yet been 24 hours since my post saying leave it plugged in for 24 hours...so maybe following instructions to the letter is something to go with in the future...
Hey, thanks for the experience to help and sorry for publication in both forums. I just gave up. I tried another battery I have another battery ... Did not work I think just the CPU burned or something? Sony is waiting for a reply on the matter. Unfortunately I did not buy the device in my country is not out here so I'm not sure I'd have a warranty. Thanks again

Got the same problem. No one can resolve this, and Sony refusing to repair a month old phone if you bought it not in your country. What a shame.
Bought new phone instead of bricked one.
Hi guys, I hope you can help me out here.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, I originally purchased it in Malaysia, broke it and took it to Malaysian Samsung and had it replaced on the warranty. Fast forward 8 months later I am back in the UK, my phone is completely unmodified, original everything.
I place it on charge whilst I am using it in bed, I notice that it stops charging after a while of me using it, I assumed I must've knocked the cable, so I readjust it and carry on as normal until I put it on the side and go to sleep.
After waking up in the morning it becomes apparent that it didn't charge at all and the battery died in the night, I check the usb is still plugged into the phone and the plug socket, all a-okay. Strange. I then asked for my housemates charger, no luck still wouldn't charge.
A few days later a replacement battery arrives, also wouldn't charge. Must be the USB then surely? Well, I replaced that also, tested both batteries with it and still no luck.
Any idea guys? I'd hate to see an 8 month old phone die for no reason.
Thanks
P.S. I have tried it from a wall socket and my PC USB.
Maybe the USB port is busted? Was it hotter than normal when you last used it? Have you submerged it in water before the incident happen?

I have tried replacing the USB and it hasn't fixed it at all, and at no point has this one been submerged. I learned not to do that with the one that had to be replaced on warranty :/
Also all of the moisture indicators on the inside haven't been triggered, so it's not water damage.

Just to be clear, you have replaced the usb port and not the usb cable, right? Have you tried letting a Samsung rep look at it? I know that the warranty can't be claimed but you could ask them to just check on it. Ask for an approximate price to fix it, canvass other repair stores and search for the parts needed so you can do it yourself if you want.

Yeah I replaced the flex ribbon inside the phone itself. I was trying to get it sent into Samsung, but my Cyber Service Centre account stopped accepting my password and wouldn't accept any reset passwords, and Samsung stopped responding to my emails :/
I also emailed a British Samsung repair shop and they told me that they wouldn't look at it because it wasn't bought within the EU.

That's unfortunate. I can't think of anything else aside from it being a motherboard issue. If it is, it will cost a lot. If you can, try going to other repair centers around your area; you might find one who can hopefully help you. Best of luck.

Hello,
I have two dead Mi5 smartphones and cannot find out why.
Fastboot, recovery not working, cannot charge, no LED lights. In few words - totally dead. I tried method with checkpoints on motherboard and had successfully flashed official ROM but result was same - dead.
Any one has any ideas whats the problem? I have changed battery from working model but nothing so it should be something with motherboard. But what?

Hello i had same problem with phone. Totally dead, then i read on forum that it is probably pmi8994 chip on motherboard that was defected. I order that chip from aliexpress( must know what version is chip on your phone). Mine was pmi8994 002. I paid 8$ on aliexpress for two of them(you need only one) and 35$ for replacement. After replacement it come alive and working fine more than half year. I hope this will help.

Thanks for your reply! Sorry to hear that it didn't help.
Hi.
Well this is a longer story. I try to tell the thumbnails.
The phone got (ocean) wet but didn't show problems for about a week or two then it stopped charging "normally" meaning charging got very slow and drained fast. Figured it was the little usb panel on the bottom. I ordered new one but putting it back together a screw stuck between the battery and the metal backplate. Pretty lame huh? I disassembled it fast so I thought sigh no problem. (the battery was on fire after i got it out and threw it on the ground in anger)
So I bought a new - not original - battery too. All ran fine again like it was before.
Then suddenly The phone turned off and looked like it was a bootloop.
Here's the interesting part because I don't remember if I already unlocked and put custom recovery / image on the phone before or only at this ponint. Mark this point.
After this, the phone only turned on while on the HP laptop's usb port with the little thunderbolt on it. Must have some tremendous juice or something. The phone shows 0% drained, not charging.
I switched cables, the usb part and battery again but still the same with both batteries, cables etc. Factory reset naturally.
My question is basically if this can happen because of a faulty/bad version/whatnot bootloader (I think i use TWRP) or this is a motherboard failure then? I don't have a HP laptop and have to search for one in case you say it does worth a try.
Thanks
