If i flashed pure stock nougat firmware from sammobile to my device after rooting my device and having custom rom and kernel ..... will it suffer battery drain and i will need custom kernel or it will be sloved?
I did the same yesterday, and I do have battery drain. If our knox is 0x1, we must root our devices to get normal battery life. That is sad

Is there any custom kernel available for nougat?
No battery drain for me, knox 0x1, stock Nougat ROM (UAE), no root, no TWRP, nothing.
Flashed normally via Odin and clear data/cache, no battery drain, left my phone with 96% 2:00 at morning, found it 94% at 8:00. Before was draining like hell because of knox 0x1 without root.

I will check this evening over night with BetterBatteryStats just to be 100% sure that I'm not lying or something, but I'm telling you yesterday evening around 9pm I flashed UAE ROM, cleared all, configured manually my phone, settings and all my apps (did not restored anything, I like to configure everything manually every time I flash something , charged my phone, disconnect it from charger at some point, left it 2am 96%, found it 8am 94%.
Will check tonight and keep you posted.
Ok so I checked again:
- Charged phone to 100%, disconnected from charger around 10:30pm, left my phone over night
- Mobile network was ON, everything else (WiFi, BT, Mobile Data, GPS, NFC...) was OFF
- Took phone in my hands this morning 5:40am, battery is 98/97% after 7h 15min of standby.
Here are pictures and proof = knox 0x1, stock recovery (no twrp), no root, stock 7.0 UAE ROM.
Conclusion: No battery drain for me.

If you haven't noticed yet, rooting with either CF-Auto Root or installing TWRP may cause your device to no longer go into deep sleep.
However, we can gain deep sleep back by flashing the stock recovery and then using it to wipe cache (do it twice for good measure).
So, in order to have root + deep sleep, we will do the following:
1. Root with either CF-Auto Root or install TWRP and flash SuperSU
2. Download the stock G920T recovery here
3. Download Flashify and use it to flash the stock recovery
4. Reboot into stock recovery, press power+volume down to bring up the menu (you may have to do this several times, time them together as well as you can), and wipe cache
5. Reboot
Voila, now we have root and deep sleep
For those of you who want to keep TWRP, it should be safe to flash it again after wiping cache with the stock recovery.

My device is going into deep sleep just fine after rooting with cf auto root and even after flashing TWRP. Not saying there isn't an issue, its that I haven't experienced anything of the sort.

I'm able to substantiate that with my experience too.
I'm rooted and BBS says that I'm still entering deep sleep. Is BBS wrong, or does rooting only affect S6 Edge users?

It's just not the edge guys, I had the exact same problem with my regular s6 not going into deep sleep, flashing the stock recovery has seemed to fix it

Damn, you're right. My T-mo S6 hasn't been going into deep sleep. I wouldn't have even thought to look.
How do you check this? Is deep sleep below 400mhz?

Cpu Spy is also saying my phone has been in deep sleep. Battery life has been consistent for me. I wonder how some people are having issues and others aren't.

Yes it's below 400mhz. Use an app like cpu spy and be rooted.

For what it's worth, I used the CF Auto Root tool and in the details of the post, he says that the stock recovery is restored at the end of the procedure, so this could be why I'm not seeing any difference in deep sleep.
I have no way of accounting for why people with TWRP + Root aren't affected, but I just wanted to update my anecdotal data so I'm not misleading :]

It is quite strange, it seems there isn't a pattern based on rooting method. Some people have deep sleep, some don't.
I tried CF Auto Root and lost deep sleep. Restored stock firmware and got it back. Then flashed TWRP and SuperSU and lost deep sleep again. Then I flashed back the stock recovery and got deep sleep back.
I created a poll to let others document what happened to them. Unfortunately, I made a typo in my rush. It should say:
Did you have deep sleep immediately after rooting without additional steps required?
So basically I'm affected by this? I did cf autoroot through Odin.
Thank you @bigxie, working nicely. I was getting so frustrated with my brand new bad ass S6 and that ****ty battery life lol. :good:
I can confirm. I wasn't aware of this issue last week when I used CF-root via Odin to root my S6. I did flash TWRP this morning, and then came across this thread. When I opened CPU Spy, I noticed my phone was only dropping down to 400MHz. So, I flashed the stock recovery. Now, I've got deep sleep back.
Therefore, I'm not sure if rooting or flashing TWRP caused the issue.
Got deep sleep back!! Thanks bud. When I first booted up I had no data and freaked out because there's no toggle anymore (thread on it in apps though, next stop) but after getting into settings and toggling it I was back on 4G.
question is 400mhz deep sleep?

No.
ok then i have never had deep sleep... I have powermanagerservice.wakelocks keeping me awake.
Can confirm also my deep sleep is back! Noticed the other day it only got to 400, flashed root with Chainfire a little over a week ago, battery life hasn't been the best. Will see tomorrow with a full charge what difference this makes.
The only step I did to get deep sleep back was to wipe cache, but then I only just put TWRP on today, and even still I didn't lose deep sleep from doing that either.
Hmm, I'll have to try that when I get a chance. Then again, I really don't need TWRP until some roms become available.

Should deep sleep show up automatically in cpu spy when it's functioning correctly? Apparently I lost deep sleep also because CPU spy lists 400 mhz as the lowest it's been.
edit: nvm flashed stock recovery and deep sleep started showing up in cpu spy. Strange
I have stock unrooted MM rom on N920G. Despite being unrooted and completely virgin, I am facing deep sleep issues. I have wiped cache, factory reset too. Should I root and go for custom stuff to control the drain?
Maybe a factory reset to begin with. Did you have a package disabler active prior to the update?

No I did not have package disabler. Its a new phone . I have done factory reset already. In the last one hour, I have used screen for 3 minutes but have lost 6% battery. Something must be wrong.
Rebooted recovery and wiped cache as well?

Only other thing I can think of is to flash 5.1.1 via odin and redo the update. Have you tried installing gsam battery monitor and seeing what is draining it? Maybe just an aberrant app that isn't optimised for marshmallow.

Havent tried GSam yet. Let me try that. I thought deep sleep issues are only on knox tripped devices. Mine is a virgin device. I hope I dont have to root to fix this. Dont want to trip knox.
May be somethings preventing it from going into deep sleep. Gsam will give you a good idea of the battery leaching apps.

Battery getting slammed badly during idle time. Left it overnight at 40%. In about 6 hours when I woke up, the phone had turned off. The phone was of course idle all these 6 hours. Have tried factory reset twice. Knox not tripped. GSam monitor pointing towards android system as the culprit.
Hey Guy,
please try to flash another Kernel. I used to have problem I have solved my problem as the following link below

Same with me. My Knox is not triggered, and still have around 11h from 100% to almost 0. I'm using stock FM I've tried to reset, factory reboot.. still it's working time it's not acceptable. My S5 was alive almost two times longer...

Hello, i have a Note 5 N920I on android 6.0.1 which i rooted a while ago. after unrooting the device, the battery started draining fast, i have tried to re-flash stock firmware, factory reset and cache wiping but nothing worked. I have read in multiple threads that re-rooting with cf autoroot might fix the problem, that being caused by tripping Knox. anyone with the same issues and tried this solution ?

1)Once you have rooted your device you will trip knox counter 0×1 which voids warrant and breaks Samsung's security features
2)So even after flashing stock rom and unrooting you will face huge battery drain due to knox tripping and also deep sleep issue which cause battery drain
3)So the solution for this is to root again your device and apply dr.ketan's deep sleep fix..You can refer this in following link
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/how-to-root-note-5-t3205073/page15
**This fix is to be applied on Stock rooted 6.0.1 with stock kernel**
I have an unrooted (Knox=0) stock device with horrible battery life. Should I root and use this fix or just wait out for the N update? I am a fan of Sammy pay

If i were you i would check for other sources of the problem first before rooting if you want to keep samsung pay. check what's draining the battery most, also try entering safe mode and see if you have the same power drain. Try factory resetting if you had the problem after an update.
After the nougat update, i get battery maxed out at 95% on my SM-T813. If i unplug and re-plug the charger, the battery finish to 100%. It doesn't happen every time but did happen 3 times since the nougat update.
Is anyone having the same issue?

I'm seeing this same behavior on my T713 tablet. Did you ever find a solution?
It seem's to be an app drawing current and blocking full charge, pokerstars in my case, if the app is running the charge can't be completed. Kill all your apps before charge to be sure.

TWRP. But now it's too late. You should have done the system backup before you did the OS update.
Thus Factory Data Reset, then you can do a system backup with TWRP. Or restore to a prior OS.

I guess I'm just looking to back up my current applications and such before I do the factory reset... I might try Helium unless there is a better option?
So, recently i had a battery change. I upgraded to Nougat OS. Currently my device is unrooted with tripped knox.
Device Note 5 SM- N920G
My battery gets a 4% Device Idle and Screen 6% Usage.
Do I need to root it in order to get the Device Idle usage to decrease?
Please help. Thanks.
I attached a screenshot.
Should I factory reset my phone after recently just updating nougat?
Try installing an app that modify doze on nougat, like ForceDoze/Naptime. You could use it without root via adb or just root it since you already trip knox.
if ur Knox is tripped it keeps the phone awake even when u put it to sleep. I remember hearing this a while ago when other people tripped Knox but wanted to go back to stock. u may have to flash supersu or magisk or a custom kernel to fix it im not sure but i remember people said that was a solution to it.
Just do a factory reset after updating to Nougat...it is all it takes. It shouldn't eat up your battery more like Marshmallow did, it is very stable even on custom ROMs
