Recently I've been having problems connecting my P9 to my Windows 10 PC to transfer files between the two. It keeps telling me the device malfunctioned and the device descriptor request failed. I've trawled around Google and followed various bits of advice to make all kinds of adjustments to my machine but to no avail and I've also factory reset my phone multiple times. At one point after the second factory reset my PC did connect to the phone then after about ten minutes it decided the device had malfunctioned again and I've not been able to get it to reset since. One other thing I noticed was that factory resets seem to happen very quickly (as in <30 secs) and when it finishes my phone still has the same wallpaper and also requires I sign in with "the google account that was previously synced to this device" which seems odd, it's like it's not actually reset it at all. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar or might shed some light as to what's going on?

im just wondering if you guys experience their tilt freezing after installing the blackberry connect through the oem programs/setting.
everything went fine on/before installing the device. it prompt me that once its done installing, clicking ok would restart the phone. the phone restarted all through the windows screen saver screen. it would not move for a long time. it stays on the screen.
at this point i was piss because i couldnt make a phone call or anything. luckily i got a phone call but i cannot pick up the call at all. it rang but thats it. i tried restarting the phone by soft reset or taking the batt off. it still didnt work.
any input would be helpful.
thanks.
Had the same issue. Had to do a Hard reset and start over.
Left BB connect off for now.
I only saw that happen when I installed it on my storage card instead of the actual device.
i installed it in my storage device.
notrhj: how can i hard reset the phone? i tried other things.. is it possible to walk me through this.
i cant access anything on my desktop. its freezes especially after someone calls.. grrr no text.. nothing.
i fix the problem..
thanks.
for the past few weeks i have not been able to connect my phone with any computer using any cord. all are either vista computers or they have active sync 4.5. at this point i have reached the conclusion that the problem lies with the phone itself. i may have deleted the whatever it is that runs the usb on the phone.
any suggestions or past experience would help. i don't really feel like spending money on a new one. it gets frustrating when many mods are done from (or at least started) on the computer, and then require my to connect my phone.
btw... i have synced the phone many times before the problem started using all the same components i am trying now.
EDIT: the battery icon shows it is charging when i plug it into a usb, but from there, i have nothing, and i have also reset memory a few times since then too.
Thanks again from a modding newb!

How are you trying to sync it? Plug it in and wait for Active to launch? Launching Active yourself and clicking connect, or from within the phone itself?
I wonder if disabaling USB charging would allow you to sync it up again.. Have you reinstalled the computer software from the CD again?
I am sure there is something you can do aside from a full phone reset...
At first, i just plugged it in, like i do every day, and wait for active to launch, but it didn't, so i opened it manually.
I tried reinstalling from the OEM disk, and also downloading directly from Microsoft (both AS 4.5).
ill poke around and see if i can disable USB charging like u suggested. thank you.
So, I went to sleep one night when battery was around 55%, woke up 8 hours later, my phone surprising turned off (turn out to be out of battery)..
I charge and turn it back up, the screen for the first time since I got the phone start flickering (the first screen before windows boot). Looking for a quick fix, I want to hard reset, but I would like to backup everything before I do a hard-reset. The problem - I cannot get neither activesync to work NOR disk mode to work.
This flickering screen had never happened before, I don't know the cause. Very confused myself what happened while I slept, solution to at least ONE of the problem would be helpful
Thanks
Ok, I read on forums that I could potentially fix the problem by downgrading to HardSPL 1.37. The problem is that it requires activesync to work. Not being able to get it to work, I did a hard reset, now everytime i try to go into activesync, it tells me that i need to install some software from the Getting Started CD which I don't have.
Someone help me, this is driving me insane
Thanks.
I havn't notice this, but I cannot get anything out of hte speaker because the phone thinks a headphone is plugged in, i dont know if this disables any activesync from the usb cable.. but either way, I cannot get pass the screen where it asks to install software from Getting Started Disc.....
it seems like the computer doesn't recognize that a phone has been plugged, tried on diff computers already
someone help, my phone is useless with this problem.
I have also this problem, it happened about a year ago and I have not used it since.
Now I wanted to recover the contents of the flash drive, but I can't get it connected to the pc.
I made a hard reset, and it stays the same flickering and heating a lot. And now I can't go past the screen calibration.
How can I access the flash?
Last night when i connected my phone to the PC through ZUNE software, i was notified i have a software update from HTC. I proceeded with the upgrade, properly following the instructions. Problem was the update stopped at 9/10, even after i waited for 20 minutes still no change (phone is still working that time).
But when i tried to do RESTORE my phone through ZUNE again (i was worried software update was not fully successful) i received an error 80180083 ("the data received was corrupt or not valid") around 70% status. It asked me to disconnect phone. Now the phone is stuck with a picture showing me to connect my phone to the pc. When i do this, it will try to do a restore again but will repeatedly fail the same as before.
Even if i do a HARD reset (power BUTTON + up&down VOLUME), i will still get the same screen showing me the picture to connect my phone to the PC. Nothing seems to correct this problem (i consulted Microsoft Answers website for this, no clear solution so far and some people submitted their phones to HTC).
Anybody recently encountered this? Let me know how you resolved this problem...
Thanks!

Just found this link hope its of some help to you

Thanks for your help but I just sent in my phone for repair. Apparently the motherboard was replaced.
When i redid my update after getting back my phone, it was definintely faster. The update was succesful!
The major difference is the amount of memory space on my phone - previously my remaining space was ard 600mb (lots of music) compared to post repair (14G). Maybe that made my previous update difficult. I think it's best to remove files before doing the update, esp when it nearing full.
Just my 2 cents...
Ok guys,
as the title says Lumia 710 is bricked.
It had last factory update and everything was working fine. Then i had to mess with it and to try to install Rataplan V9.1.
The process was working ok. By default, bootloader was in DLOAD mode, so in order to install custom ROM i needed to upgrade to Qualcomm. I have upgraded it and installed Rataplan .nb rom to the phone with NSSPro V0.54.
This is when my problems start.
The phone starts with one long vibration followed after few seconds with one short virbtation and thats it. No screen, no system, zip!
When i try to connect it again by usb to check it with NSSPro, it always starts in NAND disk mode. It does not matter do i start it normally on power button or with volume up. Its always in NAND. And it is always stuck. While the phone is connected to USB i can see Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM device in device manager but it has yellow mark like the driver is not installed.
I have tried several other roms, and NSS always shows that the rom is successfully installed, but the phone (other than vibration and NAND mode) is dead.
I have also tried all the solutions i could find on the net but no help. Tried, nokia recovery tool, WP recovery tool, Chimera e.t.c. Nothing works. Now i have a problem with NSS. It keeps stucking and beeing unresponsive for every option except Custom OS flash. Whatever else i click it either says tha phone is not detected or the app stucks and shuts itself down.
Is there other tool i can try?
Can i do anything to recover this phone or did i kill it?
PLEASE HELP!!!
Well that sucks and it sucks no one has tried to help here. I'm fair with Android but too new to WP's to probably be much help. Can you pull the battery out of the phone? Might pull it and leave it out a couple minutes then retry. You also might try from a different computer in case something has gone wrong on your computer in terms of port communication or maybe even a virus of some sort. Good luck.

Tried allready every solution that i could find or think of, including things You described. Nothing. I was left with no other option but to send phone to service. They have a box unit with which they should be able to recover phone.
That was 2 days ago. today is third day so i am thinking that my phone has gone beyond repair. Only thing i can do is to wait and see...
Why not...?
Why not send it in real life to a windows phone expert. There should be a place to get phones repaired But, if they say that it isn't possible for them you may have rendered your phone useless. Google should be your mighty friend in this case :crying: I wish you very good luck.
