Soft Bricked Note 5 - Need help to resolve - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Note 5 (SM-N920G) that was carrier locked and running Android 6. I tried upgrading it to version 7 using a firmware download from Sammobile from a different region. That failed in Odin on the system.bin (I think) but when I try to flash the version 6 firmware back to it, that's not working now either (I'm guessing because some bits of the version 7 actually flashed and it's now seeing my attempts as a downgrade, not sure). I can get it into download mode still but normal boot ends up with a white triangle with an exclamation sign and the message "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software." I tried Smart Switch and that also failed towards the end. Any suggestions on what else I could try?
Thanks in Advance.

You will need to flash firmware using repartition with pit file. Use this pit file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8NP_y2ZL5IkcXY0NTRhNlQzc3c/view?usp=drivesdk
With this firmware: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5vkBxwCY_cCZVIxZmZVQ3JQa1k/view

I'm getting the Firmware. Based on the filename I actually have it downloaded already. The link to the PIT file is not resolving though. Google says it doesn't exist. Also, will this be a problem since my phone is still carrier locked? I thought I could flash any firmware from any country but after I dug around some more I found out that that only applies to the International version or carrier unlocked devices.

Check link for pit again, I have edited it, it should work even if phone is carrier locked

Ok Thanks. So just run Odin as usual, load this PIT file in the PIT tab, load the firmware in AP section and hit Start?

exactly, make sure repartition is ticked, should be automatically selected after adding pit

Ok. Wouldn't happen to have one that matches a 7.0 Firmware for the device? I'm seeing Banglades, Sri Lanka, India and Nepal on SamMobile.

Galaxy Tab Flashing Problems :(

Greetings,
I recently got a Galaxy TAB in Malaysia with the DXJJ1 firmware. There were issues connecting to my Exchange server, so I decided to download a new firmware from www.samfirmwares.com. I chose the latest Asia Firmware and downloaded the P1 PIT file - P1_add_hidden.pit.
I have tried using Odin 1.31 and Odin 1.7 both with no success. I always get a failure on the second try with factoryfs.rfs:
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..

I've tried the DDJJ5 firmware and the latest ZHJK1 firmware, both don't work - after browsing around I'm thinking this might be a PIT file issue, but I'm not sure... now I can't use my tablet at all. Luckily it doesn't seem bricked, but I need to figure out a way to flash back either the original firmware or preferably a new firmware.
Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.
Did you also add the modem/phone csc and pda files? You probably need to apply a full firmware then an update.
Hi, I clicked on PHONE/CSC also. Which is a full firmware that I should use? If I just click on "PDA" and update with the .tar file, it will flash but then I get a:
update media, please wait
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(invalid argument)
etc. error
:S
i dont think its the PIT file considering its the same P1 PIT
different from those EUR JJ4 and JK1 which have different PIT
my 1st logic is only flashing the PDS without repartition, but i never get the chance to do that
mine is also DXJJ1, indonesia here
if anybody manage to get through flashing, please post here, i'm desperately seeking guidance too hehe
when u try only the PDA files, did u tick the repartition?
and the pit files u use, is it the one that came with odin 1.7?
Flash with the JJ4, as it is a full flash. Use ALL the files in it and make sure you select repartition, auto reboot and reset time.
Then if you wish you can flash JK1 over that, without repartition.
ur solution works on eur firmware, r u sure that would works with asian firmware? considering ur method is to get the 1st with PIT.1 which is jj4 meanwhile all asia's firmware already PIT.1 in the 1st place

You will know if it is a FULL flash as it will contain all parts, Phone, PDA, CSC, and the PIT file. The non Full contain only *.tar file...
To the best of my knowledge JJ4 was the last FULL flash...

If that is the case you do not require the full flash....
and there you go, DXJK2 is already out, to the Thread Starter, would you mind trying that one?
considering DX is the code for south east asia anyway, that would be the best suited for us
Just downloaded P1000ZUJJ4 but it does not seem to contain modem/phone csc. all there is after an unzip is a single .tar file which I assume is the pda file.
Is it not possible to update the pda file only and not touch the CSC and modem files?
Sorry if I do not make sense.
it is possible thats what JK5 on eur firmware is for
its only flashing for PDA
u can search on thread how to flash from jj4 to jk5
to my extent, jj4 is the 1st file on eur that has P1 PIT, thats why its full flash
thats why u dont need a full flash again to jk5
if its the same case here, u should try from jj1 to jk5 by just flashing PDA without ticking repartition
i still didnt dare to do it myself though
but looking on samfirmware, all asia firmware is already P1 PIT by default

stupid question, but did you go in to download mode when flashing? thats by pressing menu button + volume down button + power button. then press volume up to agree with download mode and then flash with odin. And make sure you have all drivers installed

I did. As far as I can tell, I did everything according to the guides.
[edit] I also managed to flash a different I9305 without problem, so I'm sure it's not driver or flash file related. There is something with this specific phone that prevents flashing.
I've seen a "rescue firmware" for the I9300 with separate PDA, MODEM and CSC (+.pit) files for when the regular stock firmware wouldn't flash, and I was wondering if such a thing exists for the I9305 or if there is a guide on how I could make one.
Try to get a PIT file for the i9305 and add it to ODIN. If you don't do this, ODIN extracts the PIT from the device, and that might be corrupted.

Can't brick the device much more than it already is, right? I tried it, but it just gets stuck here:

I got bored after 15 minutes, turned off the target, turned on the target, no change, still the same error when flashing.
Thought about the Knox bootloader preventing me from updating it, but that usually gives me some kind of error message right on the flash screen. Plus I'm using the latest images, and the other I9305 also says "SWREV A2", so that shouldn't be a problem.
This looks more and more like a motherboard replacement...
All i have to say is, good luck. Things don't look good.
Try to flash just a recovery via ODIN. You'll kiss knox goodbye, but we're out of options.

Tried it, no go. Same error, still won't boot into recovery. On the upside, it didn't trip Knox either
Ok, just for good measure, let's get down to the basics.
Questions:
1. What type of USB cable are you using? Can you try another?
2. Is the USB cable connected directly to the computer , or via HUB / Front ports ?
3. Have you tried cleaning the usb port on the device ?
I've covered all the basics, even tried another computer. Same results.
I couldn't find a solution, ended up sending the phone for a motherboard replacement. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

Hello everybody!
Sorry if this si not fine for me to post in this thread, but I think my question is quite related, in case I apologize in advance.
I recently bought a Galaxy tab S2 8" (SM-T719).
I installed the TWRP and applied SuperSU (as per guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/development/twrp-3-0-2-1-galaxy-tab-s22016-sm-t713-t3390627)
All fine...
Only later I recall that I stupidly forgot to make a complete STOCK backup. If I need, can I use the STOCK provided in this thread even if it is for T713?
The only difference I see comparing the specs is the additional 2G support.
Thank you in advance and thanks to everybody for the great work!
PS: if it can be usefull to anybody I can make a BACKUP of the current state of the tablet.
Best regards!!

There's a newer version for this firmware T713XXU1APG1 (build 01.07.2016, the one in the first post is build 20.04.2016). I'm not sure what the difference is. Has anybody already downloaded the new version and saved it somewhere on the Internet? A free download from https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-T713/region/XAR/ takes almost 7 hours.

I had my S2 SM-T713 8.0 Rooted and tried to install Lightning. The WiFi failed, so I flashed the WiFi fix. Still no WiFi. Restored the rooted TWRP backup. It booted up to the lock screen, but refused to allow me to use the only pin that had ever been entered on the machine.
After numerous attempts to get around the pin issue, I attempted to flash this stock firmware via Odin. Every attempt failed at a different point. MD5 double checked and matched. The latest attempt ran as follows:

I am stuck at the blue screen saying that An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software. That software reports that my device is not supported. The other thing on the screen is a message that SU REV CHECK FAIL : [aboot]Fused 2 > Binary 1. I also cannot turn off the screen.
I have been rooting and running numerous ROMS on phones and tablets for 6 years. Any hope left?

Use the one linked in the OP.
Before you odin twrp or anything else let the tablet update to the latest firmware.
Success after loading the new updated Samsung firmware from link in post by dxxvi.
"I had my S2 SM-T713 8.0 Rooted and tried to install Lightning. The WiFi failed, so I flashed the WiFi fix. Still no WiFi. Restored the rooted TWRP backup. It booted up to the lock screen, but refused to allow me to use the only pin that had ever been entered on the machine."
Finally had success after loading the new updated Samsung firmware from link in post by dxxvi (took almost 20 hours slow load). Confirmed that it does require a factory reboot after hanging at Samsung logo.
The new firmware allows you to choose whether to require a pin after reboot or just accept fingerprint input.
There is a newer version of of the firmware T713XXU2APJ1, release date 05.10.2016

Hello,
I faced this problem last night when trying to flash an official S3 rom via Odin, I used Samsmobile to download the firmware. I kept getting the same error as you with the dreadful red 'FAIL' notification. However, I managed to overcome this issue by using Odin v 3.10 with the right firmware (stupidly, I had downloaded the firmware for the wrong variant, the i8190 as opposed to the i8190n). Furthermore, I also flashed the appropriate PIT file to my device along with the firmware (the only reason I did this was because it was mentioned as a possible solution in many threads). Also, I made sure there was no trace of Kies on my computer before connecting my device and flashing.

Hi there, If you don't mind can you please send me links to the files you used (the firmware and the PIT file)?

That's where I downloaded the firmware, the first one (I8190NXXAMB1). Note that it's for the N variant in my country (UK) and my network provider (EE), I downloaded the PIT file off XDA on a thread I found, I cannot for the life of me remember where it is now. However, it's on my computer at home, so if possible, I'll upload it to this thread when I get back. Keep me updated on how you get on pal.

On the tablet I get "check fail device 2 binary 1" in red below everything in the top right.
I think that means you're flashing firmware that is below bootloader version. I had it happen. There is a 1B and 2B for bootloader version like on here
https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-T810/region/XAR/
I went in stupid mode and got it to flash ignoring that error and it darn near didn't boot at all. Nothing worked for me even 2B versions until I flash a good backup in recovery then odin went fine without that red error.
You're flashing the wrong firmware. You're trying to flash a revision 1 firmware on a device running revision 2 firmware.
You need an XXU2 firmware.
