Hi guys
Middle and right button is not working.
Left and FP is working.
LCD is fine.
I've been looking in Ali and most of cheaper front packages doesn't came with FP. The ones that has, its the triple of the price. (half of the MI5s price)
I would like to know if anyone had already changed only the front glass? Does anyone know where I can find it?

Think you gonna have to get a whole screen assembly, don't think it's very easy to just replace only the digitizer
Plus the integrated fingerprint sensor and a curved screen. Any repair is going to be both expensive and difficult. I guess you have to live with it or replace the phone unless you REALLY want to get it repaired.
Hey,
have you found something already? Where do you live?
I also crashed the left bottom corner of my screen. At first the buttons still worked, but then they started acting crazy, pressing randomly.
I asked a local repair shop here in Taipei and they quoted about US$ 115. But I don't remember which parts they would replace.
I found it a bit pricey, so now I'm using the apps "buttons remapper" (de-activate "back" and "home") and "soft buttons". Works quite well. Just need to re-activate both after every ROM update.
Cheers,
Linus X.

My Mi5s buttons are crazy too.
Where I live, I couldn't find a place to replace it.
I only found on AliExpress. but I read that you need to buy a Fingerprint sensor too. And it seems that its not easy to stick correctly on screen.
I'm using Pie Controls while I'm thinking what to do.
Maybe I'll buy this screen and FP on Ali. If I do, I'll write here!
Why is the Gorilla glass/Concore glass not protecting the screen?
And?
Any progress? I've got similar problem. My screen is broken, but from what i've found I have to buy screen together with FP if i want FP to work correctly. Do you have any source where I can buy them together? (and it's not fake?)
I got my replacement screen from this store on aliexpress:
link
FP and everything is working perfectly, only the lcd seems to be a bit slower
In case anyone is interested in my display repair experience:
I had my display replaced for about USD 85 by a local repair shop. Afterwards I found out that the fingerprint scanner doesn't work anymore and they went like "of course, how come you didn't know that?". Pretty outrageous customer service if you ask me.
They said they used an original screen from Xiaomi (took over 2 weeks to order), but I feel like the glass is totally flat, not slightly bent as the original one. And recently the capacitive buttons sometimes seem less responsive.
Conclusion: next time I'd try to get it repaired by the manufacturer, or live with the damaged screen if that's too expensive.
Cheers,
Linus X.
i found several display + touch screen sets for like 25$. Link
Or are those lcd and the original display is oled?

That price seems too good to be true. However if I had a crashed screen I would give it a go. Anyone replaced a screen himself so far?
Apparently the Mi5s does not have a "Gorilla Glass" screen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q_A0a1nkbM
Guys. First the video is a Mi 5 and not a Mi 5s. Second the Display for 25 bucks posted by @derdigga does not have the fingerprint sensor included. So if you don't want to loose that function, look for screen that have the digitizer as well as the fingerprint sensor included. In best case it's already glued into the frame. That makes the assembly much easier as you don't have to glue the screen by yourself.
Another note on my repair experience: I dropped the phone from like 30cm onto fairly hard carpet. Since then the lower part of the display isn't glued in properly, so at night I can see the leds shine through between case and screen at the bottom. Went back to the store, they just added some glue. Few days later the tiny gap is back again.
Kinda sad for such a nice phone!
Linus X.
from my experience, the replacement screens for the Mi5s doesn't have the fingerprint sensor SO forget about it if you want a replacement screen.
My problem after replaced the screen is that i have really bad gps signal.
Anyone else faced this problem?
Does the home button work even if the fingerprint scanner is not installed?
Yes, the home button works as it is capacitive.

I seem to have a spec of something in the screen, I just noticed it yesterday. I'm 100% sure it was not there before as its on the white part of the gmail icon on my homescreen, so if it was there before I would have noticed it.
I'm also pretty certain it's not a dead pixel as it appears above the text on my screen. Also if I position some text so the corner or edge of a letter just touches it, it seems to shift if I look at it in different angles which would indicate its not a pixel but something above the actual LCD panel.
Not sure how to explain this better, but I have seen LCDs with dead pixels, something behind the LCD panel, and something between the LCD and glass, and this definitely looks like it something above the lcd.
The thing is, the Xperia Z LCD panel is meant to be bonded directly to the LCD, so there is no air gap, so theoretically nothing can get between the LCD and the glass.
Anyway, I just ordered a usb microscope (always wanted one anyway) which should arrive tomorrow so I can get a better look at this and figure out what is going on.
Just really bugging me at the moment, also heard that sony has been refusing repairs on Xperia Z with less than 3 faulty pixels, so also worried if it is indeed a pixel.
OK, it is definitely dust or something in my screen, I have tried shining a bright LED into the screen and I can see a speck with the screen off, exactly where the the black spec shows up on my screen is on.
I thought the whole lcd was meant to be bonded to the screen removing the whole of the air layer. as shown on sony's website.
Anyone have similar issue? or know about if there is indeed a gap between the lcd and the glass?
Well, no one seems interested in this thread, but here goes anyway. Just in case someone does have same issue later on:
usb microscope arrived today and here are the pictures:

Under 500X
It clearly shows that its not a dead or stuck pixel. there is definitely something between the LCD and the glass. Which would mean that there is a gap between the LCD and the front glass. I thought that there isn't a gap as the LCD is bonded to the glass.
Have to find time to take it to sony and see what they say I guess.

Thankfully there are people who share their problems even when no one was intetested like in this thread I am curious how this issue end up for the dust owner Well, I have bought Z1 Compact and it seems I'm facing the same problem. Firstly, I thought that maybe dead pixel appeared after few days but can't be - that black spot is seen even when the screen is turned off. It's very small but for me makes huge difference.
Hello everyone!!
I need help quickly! I have the same problem with my XZ, i have dust under the digitizer (only visible on white and green light), if I send it on RMA, will they change the screen and digitizer (I heard somewhere that they need to do that because it's sticked together), or just clean the dust?
Thanks in advance

Sony took it in for repair, took them nearly 3 weeks but ended up giving me a new phone (different IMEI and newer manufacturing date). Not quite sure why I got a new phone but it was all good!

They told me that the front of the phone with lcd and digitizer gets replaced as it's all one part.
ifixit undoubtedly has the best teardown guides, but when they said that the nexus 5 front panel is a "fused flustercluck" that really bugged me.
To be honest i think their style has changed from when they first started, now the teardown guides seem to make a few too many jokes and links to irrelevant stuff. I'm not a huge fan of this, but I'm holding that against them as everyone has their own style.
But saying that the N5 front panle is a fused flustercluck just bugged me when they are perfectly happy to try melting the glue on the ipads and ipod touches to get into them, but not try that on the nexus 5. They even specifically sell the "iOpener" (basically an overpriced microwave heatable beanbag thingy) for situations like this. Not trying is what annoyed me.
So I set out to try myself!
I bought a whole front panel assembly with screen.
Now i don't have one of their heated beanbags so i just stuck the whole thing in the oven at a low temperature. 40C pretty much did nothing (as expected) so then i set it at 70C and heated the whole thing until it was toasty (15 mins).
Using a suction cup on the glass did nothing, then i noticed that I could see the back of the screen through the slits which the rear cover clips onto. So i started pushing at it with a plastic spudger, (the ifixit one fits perfectly).
I saw that that glass was coming away from the case, and careful pushing gave me a big enough gap to slip a guitar pick in. pushing at the other slits and running the guitar pick around the screen came off relatively easily.
One thing about the gorilla glass 3, it was pretty flexible, i was seriously concerned that i was going to crack the glass! it seemed to flex more than the sgp glass protectors i used before.
The glue is only around the edge of the screen which made it easier, I was worried that the whole back of the screen would be glued as well, but its just a foam pad.
Popped the back off my nexus 5 and attached the ribbon cable for the now separated screen just to make sure its all working and it is!
So here we are, the front panel is not a "fused flustercluck" as ifixit says, but can be easily separated. Even easier if the screen is damaged so you don't need to worry about keeping the screen in one piece.
ifixit gave the nexus 5 a negative point on this:
The glass and LCD are fused to the display frame. Fixing broken glass will be either expensive or very difficult.
But in all honesty, since the difference for just the glass and screen and the whole front panel (including the screen) is so small, it makes no sense to take the hassle of replacing just the screen, and also since most failures are going to be physical damage resulting from dropping the bezel will likely be damaged too, and just makes more sense to replace the whole thing.

I am actually doing a custom mod on the nexus 5 which requires the screen and front assembly/bezel to be separate.
I managed to find the screen only without the front assembly/bezel but not just the assembly/bezel itself so I went this route of separating it myself.

All I can say is that it's quite an ambitious mod (for me anyway).
I will definitely let you guys know once I complete it, but it all depended on me being able to separate the screen from the bezel and that worked, so all lights are green!
I just need to source equipment and parts, but with the holidays coming up It likely won;t be until mid-late jan until I will finish this.
I've used it for 3 days. I'm too busy to buy a cover and a glass protector and wait to next week. But today it's broken on the corner near the button. No drop at all, it's still on my pocket when bicycling.
I think this is the flaw design, because when I press the button the broken glass piece move along with the button. The bottom of the S6 Active is very weak and easy to broken. I've used the Casio G'zOne Commando 4G LTE for 2 years and this is lasting for 2 years until I think it's not fast enough for me and want a replacement, 2 options kyocera brigadier or S6 active. I think it will give best performance. I'm correct, but it's just not tough enough.
It's still usable and I can't replace another one because I'm living outside the US. Anyone want to get this one should consider this fact.

Updated video show how soft the screen is.
Looks like you might have hit something with your leg while it was in your pocket? Don't think glass breaks this way if it's because of heating and the glass is pushed inside(or atleast it looks that way on the picture), which leads me think you did hit something. If it's true that's why you have flip covers and stuff for the phone that covers the whole screen, makes things like this almost impossible to happen

Yes, I put it in my jean pocket when ride a bicycle, so the pressure on screen might cause problem, but I don't thing I might make the screen cracked, anyway, I can't still use it as a usual S6 with a broken corner and without waterproof ). It's completely not rugged compare with my Casio.
The bottom of the screen phone is very soft that you might push and feel like empty inside. My opinion that the button design cause the problem.

Uhm to be honest, I don't think this was caused by pressure, if it was caused by pressure it wouldn't have just happened in the corner and be all over the screen. The image you show a burst not a crack(I mean the way the glass is broken makes it imossible to be cause of pressure of being in your pocket, providing the phone was put straight in) Also it's almost impossible to crack the glass by pressure of the S6 without bending the device itself(which is nearly impossible without brute force). This definitely looks like the device hit a corner of a table(for example).
Same issue
My Galaxy S6 Active cracked in the same spot, but on the opposite side. I was carrying a plate carrier while the phone was in the front pocket of my jeans. But I really feel that no impact was made. I also had a Gorilla Glass screen protector on the phone.

So that I'm not the only one who have this problem.
After a few days of using, the broken glass come out, I can clearly see there is an empty gap between the glass and panel. I don't know how much pressure could break it, but at the right angel, right place in a right time, I would be cracked. This is a design flaw .
My workaround is using a glass protector and have some sticker a round this place, then it will not notice me any more . And my next phone (hoping this one lasting 2 years) is some kind as http://www.kyoceramobile.com/durascout/
I have LETV X800 US version. Drop from 1.5 cracked the glass really nice (see attachment). I am thinking to order screen replacement from here: http://www.vopmart.com/pa1013251.html or here: http://s.aliexpress.com/iemyi2Yz
Do you think it is compatible with my US version of the phone.
I guess it should work on both CN & US but I need to ask before ordering.

I also have the same problem.
Hi
Did you find a solution to your problem ? I also have the same and I do not find the necessary help.
Thank you for your answer
In my reading the screen replacement should work on both US and CN versions....
The screen of this phone is subpar to current phone standards. Mine cracked when dropped at 30 cm from tiled floor after 3 months of use! The phone was house into its original silicone transparent protection, with a glass protection on top! The glass protection didn't brake, only the screen underneath did. I had it replaced for the equivalent of 30 euros in China in a general phone fixing shop, and made clear I did not want an original replacement. They guy came up with a good quality screen, slightly thicker than the original. I have used it without problems for 8 months now. It withstood about 4 falls from 1 meter each, but I keep the phone housed in a metal frame protection since then. The original case is bad since it doesn't protect the phone all around as it should.
I bought the screen from vopmart.
Price is ok, delivery was fast (less than a week to Germany).
Disassembly of screen was actually easier than in the videos, works pretty well.
The BIG problem was (which I did not really realize or ignore until then)...the vopmart screen replacement did NOT come with the adhesive to glue the screen to the phone.
Since I was impatient and wanted to use the phone right away, I used some own tape and glue and damaged the screen in the process.
Bottom line:
- Screen replacement is relatively simple and screen is not too expensive
- make sure you double check that the adhesive is included in the screen you order or order separately, otherwise you will not be able to replace the screen
- I second what the previous poster said....my phone fell from about 70cm and the screen was cracked pretty badly, previous phones did survive this
I bought a Xiaomi phone now. I hope/think build quality is a bit better and, more importantly, you are not stuck with Android 5...
I'm planning to order screen on Aliexpress. I want to ask you that, is your screen's colors or quality worse than original? I'm not asking for durability, just asking for quality.

I think it is about the same as the original. I am not 100% sure though since I destroyed it a little during the replacement. And I believe the color quality from the original one is not great to start with anyway.

So I have ordered both and have the heat gun, and the pry tools, so technically if I am not a gimp I should be able to complete this successfully.
I am just again slightly confused because some videos recommend removing the back cover and the getting to the front by doing a full disassembly whilst others recommend removing the glass directly.
Has anyone tried both methods? I would understand if you were replacing the battery also but...
Thank you in advance.
I have only tried the "front" method, so just removed the glass from the front. I found this to be pretty easy. I did this with a Sony Xperia phone before and I must say the letv was much easier.
I can recommend removing the glass from the front.
Which one is the front method? What and where did you buy to repair it?

I think you use a heat gun to warm it up and then use a suction cup to loosen it then use a razor blade to cut away the glue/sticker and slowly pry it apart.
Then you detach it, attach the new one apply the sticker and then reseal.

The phone never fell (it has absolutely no marks on the outer metal), I did not perform any special/unusual move with the phone in my pocket, and there was no other items in that pocket (I am used to carry all my phones that way for years).
But this time I just found the mobile like that when I took it out. Note that I am not using any kind of protection.
So I wonder if I just had extreme bad luck or if more devices may have a fragility on their back glass ?
Maybe there was some keys or coins in you pocket and sitting with jeans make some pressure on phones

No as I wrote above there was nothing else in my pocket. I am used to live and travel with all my phones like that for a dozen years, and I never put anything else in the same pocket to avoid damaging the screen. It worked fine until now...
I wonder if it accidentally got hit or something, I know you said no but it looks like that section near the usbc port is took a hit of some sort.
I had my oneplus back crack, only a few weeks old, never dropped etc but I chalked it up to it must have inadvertently got hit somehow/someway without be knowing as I didn't find others with the same issue.

The cracks in the glass seem to start from the bottom indeed, but I can assure you that the metal all around the usbc is totally clean (there is a small white reflection there on the picture which may be seen as a damage, but it's not).
I cannot exclude that I missed a "hit" on my pocket during the hour which elapsed since the previous phone usage, but it would still be extremely weak for a gorilla glass 5 to break with a "hit" that I wouldn't have felt or noticed :/

The cracks in the glass seem to start from the bottom indeed, but I can assure you that the metal all around the usbc is totally clean (there is a small white reflection there on the picture which may be seen as a damage, but it's not).

Just looking around, can order a new back glass for $10 and it looks simple to replace. That's good at least.

Replacement back here
It's 3D glass. NEVER leave it unprotected.
2.5D glass on iPhones are much weaker as well (like the front of the Mi 9 which is very close).
3D glass or Edge-Glass (think Samsung Galaxy S7/8/9/10) is also amongst the worst.
No one should go without, AT LEAST, the included case, just because the camera glass isn't sapphire-crystal (9H) but sapphire-glass (5.5H) - like JerryRigEverything test has shown.

Thank you very much for the links. I don't have the tool to heat the back but I may try to get it done in a repair shop.

I had a Galaxy S7 before the Mi 9, two years in my pocket exactly the same way with no protections, never had a scratch on the screen or back
Same issue repeated with the rear glass on Mi9
My phone is in a robust case and the rear glass has been broken 3 times now! I have never broken any screen before and I have had phones for over 25 years.
Hi,
I just realize that I forgot to provide feedback here.
So I bought this back cover on Aliexpress : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33009357325.html
An this heat gun : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32966891985.html
I replaced the back cover myself and it was quite easy. Have a look at video like this one before : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta_vYqOfK0Q
Since then, I am enjoying my Mi 9 and never had any problem with broken back or front glass anymore (although I still don't use any cover and hold the phone in my pocket...).
I think that the original back cover that I had was faulty, although Xiaomi never accepted that and refused to repair under warranty.
Good luck with yours !
Laurent
Thanks I will give it a try.
I have purchased all of the replacement screens do far from eBay..
Looks like bad luck. I don't use a case on my Mi 9 with no issues. The back is all scratched up, but no cracks.
