Hi there. I was trying to install a custom ROM, I had a PAC Xperia SP rom but it had too much RAM usage (about 50-80 free RAM with every app closed) so I decided to change it, in CWM I formatted each possible partition after that I realised I have no ROM to install on my SD Card so I took my friend's phone and put my SD into his phone while turned off my phone (it asked about rooting while I tried to turn it off I accepted it). Well it didn't turn off and it's stuck right now with blank screen. I can't turn it off (tried each combination Power + Volume up/down/camera). There's a small yellow hole under which there is written "OFF" I tried to touch it with pencil or something with or without the power button pressed but the phone still won't turn off. Right now i'm trying to unscrew the phone and I read about a little cable attached to mainboard which will turn off your phone if you unplug it for 2-3 minutes. So what else can I do guys. Help.
Don't tear it down yet: HOLD the yellow off button UNTILL phone vibrates 3 times!

Okay. The phone didn't do anything while I was just holding down the yellow button but I manage to enter fastboot or flash mode while pressing YELLOW + Vol up / down, but it seems I don't have drivers for Xperia SP, I Installed each driver from Flash Tool and PC Companion Studio but while i'm connecting device in flash mode to flash tools it disconnects after couple seconds saying it doesn't have proper drivers.
Edit : The phone disconnects from Flash mode and acts like a normal phone connected to USB after couple seconds. minutes depends.
Strangely I managed to get into Recover menu and installed ROM I had on my SD, close it.
I've done searching on this forum but I haven't found any answers that are specific to my issue. I just bought this Xperia SP from a retailer online. It may be a refurb, I'm not sure, but it looks brand new. Anyways, when I opened the box and tried to turn it on, nothing happened. Ok I thought, I'll just charge it. When I charge it, the red light on the bottom just comes and goes. Stays on for a few minutes, then goes off for a few minutes. I let it charge for almost 6 hours like this and nothing has happened. When I plug the phone into my PC you hear the USB connected sound, but right after you hear the disconnected sound, and nothing shows up in device manager. I tried the Vol+ and Power button combo and nothing happens. I tried holding the reset button on the back for 5-10 seconds and nothing happens. I get no vibrations at all. The phone is not detected in any program like SUS, Flashtool, or PC companion. Some times when I press the power button I get 2 red short flashes, I have no idea what this means as it's not consistent, and only happens every once in a while. Anyways, I think I may just return it and hope for a replacement :\ Any ideas?

Faced with same issue a month ago, after a buy Xperia SP from Ebay. Same symptoms: red light while charging, sound on PC when I first time connect with it, with no luck at all. First of my attempts to fix this, is changing my usb cable, then installing universal android usb driver, but nothing helped me. Then I just ask google for my problem . This is an answer that helped me:
Xperia SP comes with a non removable battery. So turning off in this condition is not possible by removing battery. The volume up+power button doesnt work in Xperia SP unlike other phones. The solution is given below.
Remove the back cover of Xperia SP and look for a small yellow dot on mid bottom with “OFF” written below it. Check the image below.
Now “Press & Hold Down the OFF Button, using a tip of pen or any other pointed object for around 10 seconds”. Phones vibrates and will be switched off automatically. Check image below.
P.S. Don’t use very sharp objects as it may damage the OFF Button.
Now phone restarts.
After restarting we found that our Xperia SP got back to normal temperature and everything was fine. :smileyhappy: We were able to charge our Xperia SP again, device was cool.
Hope it will work for you also

I don't think you read my post thoroughly. I tried the reset button on the back, it didn't do anything.
Plug the phone into the computer, reset your device (yellow button), than immediately press and hold volume down key. If computer respond with sound and green led notification on phone, next step is SUS (Sony update service) to factory reset your device and start with latest stock firmware.

That's actually a good idea and I hadn't tried it. However, after trying it now it still didn't work :\ Still nothing. It's as if my reset button doesn't even do anything. I push it with a small object and it doesn't feel like an actual button, there's no movement to it.
I get the green LED for some seconds but then it turns off and boots back up to the red LED again. Any help?
I believe the problem was because of no charge or the phone was too hot?
Anyways, I'm glad to say that I let it charge first and then let it cool down, download a stock tft firmware and flashed it using Flashtool. Now everything is fine until now.
Going to try and see if I can install that 4.4.4 ROM, again...
I encountered that problem when i updated my phone my phone previously, i just reflashed my ftf.

I had a simmilar issue , look what you have to do:
1- Connect the phone to the PC , you must see the red light , if not wait few minuts , you must see it.
2- When you have the red light , put the phone near of you and keep you eyes on it for 5-15 minuits , you must see the green light turn on.
3- When you got the green light take your phone , and even if it goes off , now hold the VOL - botton and then hold the Off botton in the bottom of back of the phone for 7-10 seconds , you must the the green light turn off and on again. (you have to do all of that while it's still connected to PC)
When the green light turned on again that mean you are on flashmode , now better to use Flashtool to flash a firmwate.
Notice: the phone may get disconnect while flashing , so you must to flash it in 2 levels: first one by excluding the system.sin then flash it.
The second time you redo those steps to get into flashmode again , go and flash only system.sin be uncheck the wipe boxes , and by checking all exclude boxes but the system one.
You may fail flashing the system many times because it's the longest step , so try to charge your phone more time and try to flash it again and again.
I've test everything...!!!

As you see the phone is recognized by my pc. The thing is that all this happens ONLY when i have the battery pulled off. When i pull on the battery again the phone starts with red light and few minutes later red light stops. Also i'd like to mention that everything is ok when the battery is off (Flash mode, Fastboot mode). And i have 2 batteries 1 old and 1 brand new. So what is this? Its a hardware problem or something about TA lost???? PLS Help me.

Hi there i think i'm in a worse state than you, my phone has been water damaged
I cleaned it with alcohol(99%) about a month after it swam with me in the sea(it was the soonest possible since it happened whilst i was on holiday and it did ruin my holiday ) i also replaced the battery but only a red light shows when i put it on charge wall and pc. before it didnt light up at all so its making progress... its not recognised by my pc however when i disconnect the battery it lights up pink, when battery connected its red. I have got no clue on what to do next, any ideas?
Any ideas how to fix this?
It started with the phone died by itself and wouldn't turn back on at all except it can go to Sony logo when I'm charging the phone.
First thing to do was to hard rest by pressing the orange clip (didn't work) then tried pressing power + vol up button (didn't work).
Second thing was to install via flashtool. Installation was successfully done but I can't turn the bloody thing on (battery is about 60%).
Any idea? I think I just killed it.
Another issue is that the phone is always stuck in fastboot mode when connected via usb.

Any water damage? Been in water?
Clean USB port with cocktail stick or q tip with alcohol. Try again.
Not bricked. Kernel is booting if Sony logo comes up. It is something else...
EDIT: Hold power and vol up together to hard reboot the phone
hI
to rise your phone again use Sony's PC Companion-support. Follow the instructions of the application. I had the same ptob.
Thank you
I went to the beach recently with the Xperia Z1 C6903, and after coming back from the beach, the camera on the phone keeps on opening by itself.
I then decided to reboot my phone, through using the power off, turning it back on method, only to discover my phone is now in "safe mode", which disabled me from using my third party apps.
I then proceeded to search the web for a solution; using the clear cache (volume up + power button), and the red button inside the sim card slot, to which none of them worked.
After this, the phone sometimes cannot operate correctly, as the power button is sometimes disabled (as well as the volume down button). The power button issue can be fixed through the red button inside the sim card, however the volume down button does not seem to work.
I tried factory reset, nothing seemed to have happen apart from me losing all my data and apps.
I tried to flash the stock rom, which I have in place on my phone atm, again, through flashtool, but did not seem to get an answer as safe mode is still on, and the volume down button seems to be dead.
Upon further investigation, I realised that the camera function is also affected by the safe mode, as the camera cannot focus on objects, and the camera button on the Z1 is working, but cannot take a picture (can semi-press and use camera's flash via this way).
I am now leaving my phone to dry, assuming that there is still water inside the phone which is preventing the normal function of the volume down button as well as the camera (and sometimes the power) button.
If anyone has a solution, please respond, and :fingers-crossed: I may have this fixed without going to the Sony service store.
Never take phone to beach...Salt +metal= you know the combo
Try to flash full FTF to see if the software is the problems or just open the phone
Or send it to Sony..........
Shutdown the normal way, then turn on.
Safe mode will disappear.
Never heard that the phone were stuck in safe mode even after a full wipe.
i have the exact same issue ,is there any solution please ?
Same exact problem
I have exactly the same problem, if there is any way to help please post it.
I'm trying to do a hard reset using volume/power keys but cannot do it for the life of me. I've tried all variations from doing searches but just can't seem to get it to boot into recovery mode.
Any help much appreciated.
Button next to micro sim
there is a small recessed orange button located next to the nano sim slot. Take a paper clip and push the button and hold it for 3 seconds. Your phone should vibrate 3 times and fully shut down.

That doesn't boot into recovery mode or do a hard reset though, just seems shut the device down.

I'm a Z1 Compact user (my Z3C coming soon!) - not sure how relevant this is for Z3C, but for Z1C, there is no stock "recovery" to get into. Only Flashmode and Fastboot mode from the OFF position. Maybe Z3C is the same...
If by "hard reset" you mean, to wipe the phone and start it fresh, can you do it via the settings? (Settings -> Backup & Reset)?

I've found the hardware wipe to be more comprehensive than the software wipe. For example, when I wiped my Z3 Compact in the past to try and clear a camera fault, some of the Sony (cr)apps weren't there after. I had to send the handset off for repair (camera fault still there) and it's come back with the firmware reflashed with some of the tat back - specifically the Xperia Now bit when you swipe up the home icon.
Maybe flashtool is the answer?
