Hi guys I'm running MiUi.JB.2.8.24 on my SGS1 and my RAM memory is always 75%-80% full even if I don't run any apps....is there a way to free some RAM space in order to make my SGS1 smoother?
Thanks in advance!!!!
Don't know about MIUI, but I use C-RoM BeaN v1.3.4 and I have 278Mb in use and 111 free. The phone is very smooth and the ROM pretty cool.

NO the RAM cannot to increase however the usage of RAM can be decreased...
Swap
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app
You can use swap or compcache. The first one uses SD card space as RAM (obviously, it's much, much slower than the real RAM), compcache uses compression.
Google is your friend.

does swap worth? I mean does it have a remarkable difference?

Instead of having android killing your old apps when RAM is needed, their state will be moved to the SD card.
It will be loaded again in the main RAM (after killing/moving other stuff again) when you need it.
So basically, it's good if your, say, browser keeps closing its tabs as soon as you exit it, but it won't help gaming much.
In fact, it may even cause lag if an application's state is being copied to the SD instead of being killed while gaming (killing it is pretty fast; copying it, not so much, and will cause lag, especially on our low end device).
If you are looking for more memory to install apks, then you should take a look at this:

He meant to increase RAM and not internal memory....
DON'T USE THAT "CronMod-A2SD/D2EXT/INT2EXT" or you will end up losing your IMEI number if your are unlucky...

is there any tutorial for doing this method? would you guide me? I have RazoDroiD v2.5 rom on my ace.
and another question, do you recommend MindCr Rom v2.1? I prefer more Space in RAM and stability.

@mario320, I agree with you in 100 per cent. I've S5830i for few days, and tried almost all ROM revisions for this mobile, but MindCr Rom v2.3 is just what I was loking for. I removed some useless apps from ROM, added other ones, and now it fits me perfectly. So with a clear conscience I can recommend MindCr Rom v2.3
My current rom is stock 5.0.2 rom.. Right after boot, RAM used by system is around 190MB..
Then I flashed a completely AOSP 5.1 rom (not CM12, AOKP, PAC, AOKP, etc) and RAM used by system is almost 350MB with no GApps installed..
Finally I tried Slim rom (maybe it had some optimizations) with no GApps and had the same issue..
Does 5.1 actually use more RAM than 5.0?
Is there any way to reduce system RAM usage to less than 200MB (just as 5.0)?
Finally, if there is no way to fix this, can anyone provide a working link to download last CM12 (not CM12.1)? Official link is broken
Ok, thanks for the info!
so? what info?
Exactly

Made my day.
Hi guys, i finally decided to install a custom rom in my moto g 2014, so here i am asking you what is the best rom, i've seen this http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-t2993932
and i think it's good, but i've not read all the 370 pages so maybe there are some problems or maybe there is a better rom...
sorry for my bad english and thank you all
You have to find out which is the best ROM for you. What is important for you? That it is stable? Or good battery backup?

If many features are not what you're looking for, go for cm12. If you want as many customizations as possible, I'd recommend you blisspop, carbon ROM or PAC ROM.
I personally like less customization, for examole Slim, tesla are little customized, Aosp is the uncustomized Android nexus like experience, all have nice performance, stable and battery backup
I would recommend you AOSP. It's all clean, ready to provide you the best performance a ROM can give.
But if you want some customizations to play with, I HIGHLY recommend OctOS. This ROM wasn't highlighted as many others around this forum, but I guarantee that you will receive a good performance and a good bunch of custom features
thank you guys, all this answers were unexpected, this is a beautiful community

It definitely is. With custom kernel you have more features like double tap to wake and so on. I'd recommend Optimus kernel or spirit kernel.

Both kernels have a feature list in the thread. Have a look at them and then decide which kernel has the most features that you need, or if you need a custom kernel at all.

Optimus
Hello,
I am currently on Derpfest.
The memory is used:
- Android platform: 800MB
- Android system: 325 MB
- Google Play services: 250MB
- Interface: 150Mo
Do you roughly have these values with other ROMs? Indeed, I find that my MI A2 slows down more and more.
Are there more fluid roms?

im on bliss and it seems fluid but i think what you really need is a custom kernel ..the best is Agni kernel ..gives overclock and also gives really fast wifi driver and different options for camera and supports both EAS and HMP

here is some info.. but remeber ram is dynamic and android system should try to use almost all the ram to make device faster by not killing too many things so they are ready to run ..maybe your ram management is too agressive ? do you use some battery program killing too many processes

nah it runs pretty well without it ..unless you need specific changes like if you're a gamer or whatever
