besides the chinese connection which may or may not be working , I dont need the spam nor do I need links having access to PP accounts . I guess my Moto X will continue to be a paperweight , My Note OG will continue to be my DD , since it has never failed me . Too bad Android is going the way of the proprietory scams (apple, windows ) and I dont blame the Devs like some people in here , , ya gotta figure if Microsoft, Google, Apple or HP ,Oracle see's what these guys are doing and says "I want that kid " , "yore hred kid , but you cant release anymore code to the public, trust me you'll be compensated well" , why wouldnt they take that offer ?
Just wish there was something else we could do ?
Get the Dev Edition

It's AT&T that refuses to allow Motorola to unlock their model ...
I've seen nothing but happy customers from the Chinese code seller...the phones he could unlock anyway.
So a bit of spam, or an unlocked bootloader..... Seems most go for the unlock.
As said, dev edition is your only other choice. Sell the one you have and you'll be most of the way to the DE cost.
I don't know of anyone on here who has gotten any spam using the PayPal method with the Chinese guy. If you don't have an unlockable version or a dev version, it will likely be the only possibility ever. Motorola have locked these things down tight.

Well, you could start by buying phones that actually suit your needs. Some versions of the X were bootloader-locked. This was known from the outset. So whose fault is it that you own a "paperweight"? It's not the developers, or Google, or Microsoft, or anyone else.
You could have bought a dev edition. You could have bought from a carrier who allowed unlocking. You could have skipped the X altogether... so, why?
I'd like it if Big Red offered more unlockable phones, but I go into any phone purchase with eyes wide open. I decided the Moto X suited my needs even bootloader-locked. So you won't hear any complaints from me: it's my own fault if I don't like it. I don't hear a lot of Ford F350 owners complaining about their gas mileage, and there aren't a lot of Prius drivers that think their car is a paperweight because it can't haul a boat.

I used the Chinese PayPal method and haven't received any spam what so ever, only a single email with my code. Would highly recommend that option to anyone.
wasnt referring to spam from the chinese guy and that would be the option Id take , as for the paperweight , should have stayed with stuff I know like Samsung and HTC anyway , theyve never let me down , there isnt some are some arent!
No disrespect intended.....but you didn't like the X three months ago even, why haven't you just sold it????
Just curious.
I used the chinese MM method. Sent the payment via paypal as instructed and received the code less than 24 hrs later.
Unlocked BL, rooted phone, and installed GravityBox today. Noticed literally no extra lag so far and the increase in functionality, customization, and my satisfaction of the phone has increased exponentially.
If you're worried about spam, can't you just make a temporary email account?

Semi off topic:
If I rooted my phone to 4.4.2. and I have a bootloader locked, doing a factory reset will entitle me to keep my root? Or will I lose it?
And what if I do a factory reset on my rooted moto x on 4.4.2 when my bootloader is unlocked. Will I be able to keep my root when doing factory reset? I am trying to get rid of this "com.motorola.process.system" because I've tried wiping cache and dalvik and safemode and date and time method doesn't work.

See my reply to this same question you asked in another thread. You're out-of-luck.
Please follow my instructions in the other thread. You'll have to re-flash the stock 4.4.2 rom, and you will NOT be getting root back without BL unlock.
Sorry...its posted all over this forum that you cannot take the 4.4.2 OTA - it patches the BL exploits we used.

Alright. Just bought the unlock bootloader service.
If you want a bootloader unlock for AT&T Moto X, you could just get the Rogers Moto X.
They are both XT1058 and the Rogers one is bootloader unlockable on the Motorola website. I unlocked 3 there myself.

Hello everybody, I just got my Moto X and I have to say it is a lovely device better than I expected in terms of how it feels in the hand. Really compact device.
I have some questions:
1. My phone has 4.4.2 but OTA fails to update it to 4.4.3. Is there any software that I can use to update the phone?
2. Is there a flashtool software where I can flash different .ftf fies?
3. Root option for 4.4.3 available?
1. There are a few threads discussing the 4.4.3 OTA, and what condition your phone must be in to receive/install the OTA. For example -> [XT1053] 4.4.3 OTA Update Zip and Android™ 4.4.3, KitKat® Rolls Out to Moto Devices I'm sure if you READ it, you'll find information that will solve your issue. Or if you post details of your phone, carrier, any tweaks you've made to it, etc...
2. I do not believe so.
3. If you have an unlocked bootloader, you *can* Root 4.4.3. If you have a LOCKED bootloader, you *can not* root 4.4.3.

I have an unlocked Dev Ed Moto X running TMobile, and it accepted the 4.4.3 OTA update. I first had to revert entirely to stock 4.4.2, though.

My phone is branded with an AT&T logo on the back. Model number is xt1058 and I'm running stock 4.4.2
I don't know about the bootloader though, how can I verify that?
I would really like to update this to 4.4.3 and root it, although it's not that easy I see.
Any help would be highly appreciated. I'm even considering throwing in a bounty

Ok... here we go...
4.4.3 is not out for the ATT XT1058 yet, so you can't update to it. You need to wait for ATT to start making it available.
ATT XT1058 has a locked bootloader, and Moto doesn't give out the bootloader unlock codes. Your only option to unlock the bootloader is *IF* (or maybe when) the Chinese WebSite/MiddelMan comes back to selling bootloader unlock codes. See -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/china-middleman-t2751177
There is no option to root 4.4.3 when you have a locked bootloader.
If you want usable root on the X you need two parts 1. Root Exploit, and 2. An Exploit that allows for disabling Write Protection. There is now a Root Exploit for 4.4.2 with a locked bootloader, but there is not an exploit to disable write protection. This means if you'd root, then anytime you power your phone off/on, the changes, root, etc is lost. And Root style apps that need to write to /system and the like, CANT.
there is no root option for 4.4.3 with a locked bootloader

There are several ways to find out your date code.. The easiest is to boot the phone in bootloader/fastboot mode, and select the option for Bar Codes. The date displayed there is the build date.

Once I get the unlock code, I can root 4.4.2 that I'm currently running and also future updates released by AT&T/Motorola in the near future including the 4.4.3?

Correct. Once you unlock your bootloader (which is DESTRUCTIVE, so BACKUP EVERYTHING To Your PC, or Cloud, before you do the process), you will be able to root any android version by flashing a 3rd party recovery (like TWRP), booting to the 3rd party recovery and installing SuperSU.

I'm not an AT&T customer, so I can't advise on contact info, but I can tell you that you will be wasting your time if you even try. The chance that they will give you the code is exactly 0% no matter how nicely you ask them.
You might consider selling your AT&T XT1058 and buying one that can be unlocked, such as the XT1053, or the XT1058 Roger's variant if unlocking the BL is that important to you.
Good Luck

And If you are not living in the USA, then you are likely not an ATT customer, so they won't even talk to you.

"Unlocked" could be a couple things, of course...
With respect to bootloader, every other Fi device has been unlockable, so I would assume that trend will continue.
And, according to the Fi twitter account, an X4 purchased through Project Fi will not be carrier-locked, so should work on any network.
We're dealing with 3 different things:
1) Carrier unlocked. I would assume that yes, this phone is carrier unlocked. Meaning if you want to ditch Fi and move to another PAYG or carrier, you can.
2) Bootloader unlocked. This is almost certainly NOT unlocked, as every phone comes out of the factory with a locked bootloader.
3) Bootloader unlockable? Can it be easily unlocked for ROMs and kernels and modding etc? Probably.
Just ordered a X4 from the Fi store. It says estimated delivery on Nov 1.

Hello guys,
I bought verizon motorola droid turbo xt1254 running on marshmallow from ebay like 6 months ago. It had some battery issues like dendrite (turning off at 27% etc.) However thats just old history. The problem is when i saw a post on xda saying that xt254 can be upgraded using sunshine. I downloaded it, didnt really do much with it, but once it shut down due to battery being 0%, it stuck in bootloop. Now the background is i had no recovery cwm/twrp installed, the bootloader is locked (as it says Device is LOCKED), and all i can do is flashing files. so right now im in this situation, and tried couple of time flashing some firmwares using fastboot, and all the time i get 2/3 files of the firmware flashed, the rest says this error message:
(bootloader) Invalid signed image (bootloader) Preflash validation failed
So as far as i concern is the fact that due to not having unlocked bootloader, it is not letting me install the "wrong" version of firmware. SO can anyone tell me which firmware should i use, and the link from where i get the perfect firmware i need to download? OR if i am wrong, what i am supposed to do now?
I cant upload picture (??) so this is all the info of my bootloader
Mobile Specs:
BL: moto-apq8084-70.96 )sha-b624508
Baseband: MDM9625_41.51.07.22.04R QUARK-CUST
Serial#: ZX1F24DNVV
CPU: APQ8084 ES1.1
Device is locked. Status COde: 0
ANy kind of help is so much appreciated. Thanks
in my experience you need to use the CORRECT stock firmware when flashing to fix or it wont work, as in the proper version of it.
also if using autoinit you need to follow instructions to place the patch then remove it at certain points of sunshine install or bootloop

I thought you said you downloaded/maybe installed Sunshine? That you just weren't successful in using it. That thread is about using Sunshine to unlock your bootloader, and gives all the instructions. Furthermore, Sunshine dev has participated in that thread or you can contact Sunshine and open a trouble ticket. Yes, part of the process (depending on firmware you are on) is to use a temp root to allow Sunshine to work. That's where it can get complicated.
[GUIDE] How to unlock your bootloader, install TWRP and gain root access
https://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-install-t3292684
If I mis-read that sorry. In that case you need to just install the very latest firmware, not some older firmware. You can't downgrade to older firmware with locked bootloader. This is the newest Verizon Motorola firmware:

Also, I don't get the 25$ part. I didn't needed that.. probably that's the reason..

Thanks so much for helping me all the time.

Sunshine app is what costs $25 to use. It will unlock the bootloader of the Droid Turbo even though Verizon doesn't want you to. Other Motorola phones (not Verizon) get free bootloader unlock code from Motorola. But the Sunshine devs found an exploit(s) to force bootloader unlock on Verizon Droid Turbo. However, it's cat-and-mouse, and the very latest Verizon firmware (which you may be on?) tries to block Sunshine. BUT with that powerful temp root, autoinit or whatever it's called, that can help Sunshine still unlock the bootloader.
The temp root itself does not unlock the bootloader nor give permanent root. It's only to be used as a tool to help Sunshine.
________
After unlocking the bootloader you can flash any of these ROMs:
[ROMs][Quarks][List for Moto Maxx and Droid Turbo]
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75256703&postcount=92
Lineage 14.x is Nougat, not Oreo. There's no Oreo ROMs yet but will be. Uber developer @bhb27 is working on coding a kernel for us, which is the necessary foundation for all LOS-based custom ROMs.

Also no, you will not be able to put Oreo on this phone. Lineage 14.x is based on Nougat. The Sunshine app will charge you $25 before it unlocks your bootloader. If you were not charged, it did not unlock your bootloader.

Is there any other way to root only for free.......

Not permanent root, no. Not for Verizon's Droid Turbo XT1254. Verizon won't let Motorola give free bootloader unlock code like the otherr sibling Quarks (Moto XT1250, Moto XT1225)
Devs invested a lot of time and money into finding exploit to unlock Droid Turbo bootloader, bricking phones, etc. Then releasing updates to keep ahead of Verizon's control freak "updates" to stop Sunshine.
Everyone who buys this Droid Turbo phone knows all that, of course -- because they wouldn't buy a phone without researching all this, right? So, they factor the $25 into the purchase price if they care about rooting their Droid Turbo.

Root for xt 1925
If you like to root it, you need:
1) Unlock the bootloader. Try to do it using the official Motorola website. If you have success, then please comment here.
2) A custom TWRP recovery. At time, no one has compiled it and the kernel sources from Motorola are missing.
3) MagiskSU. After you installed the custom recovery, then you can try to install Magisk. If you have sucess, then you have rooted it.
So, be patient!

I managed to unlock my bootloader, tested on my bike G6 Plus XT1926-7. Unlock the Blootloader as in any other Motorola device.
Custom Recovery TWRP EVERT (https://build.lolinet.com/file/twrp-3.2.1-0-evert.img). Thanks to user ahmed.al
The TWRP works, but it must still be in development. The appliance is partitioned into two A/B partitions. In TWRP you can switch from partition A to B. DON'T DO THAT UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR DEVICE TO BRICK LIKE MINE. Wait for the TWRP to be officially released to tamper with the device.

Thank you for the info! :good:
If you like to "root" your device, try with MagiskSU:
- Unlock your bootloader (warning: this will erase all your data!).
- Copy the last Magisk install to your internal SD CARD.
- Reboboot to the Custom Recovery (TWRP), without flashing it.
- Inside the TWRP select "install" the Magisk.
- Reboot & check if Magisk is installed and running in your device.
Regards!

Official XT-1925 purchased in GERMANY?
This is worrying! The RETEU really needs to be unlockable, as the law in Europe are very restrictive.
So, please other people with RETEU units: You can get the unlock key from Motorola?
Hi,
As the MagiskSU it's at time the best rooting method, and you only need a Custom Recovery (TWRP beta, for example), I need to know if the Moto G6+ has the F2FS loopback bug. If it has it, until a custom kernel will be available, this Magisk module can be a workaround:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/guide-magisk-official-version-including-t3577875
Please, test it and comment your results.
Thank you!

Hello, I had a lot of motorola version, RETEU or ORAEU and I always managed to unlock it, posted your key from here or sent me by MP. I can unlock it for free, it often comes from too much space.

Hi, I bought a G6 Plus reteu from Amazon Italy, when I put my bootloader code to official motorola unlock tool it says to me "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking". I sent a message to lenovo support forum about this problem and I am waiting for a response.
How are you able to retrieve the code?

So the problem seems to appear for different users.
Please, for users with success/fail... can you write your hardware version and brand? For example:
XT-1926-3/RETEU: FAIL
XT-1925/???: FAIL
etc.
Just get on the Lenovo support forum and give them your bootloader info and in two-three business days you should get code.

Hi,
sorry for English
I have a xt 1925-3 retbr and managed to unlock the bootloader normally just like any other,
but the message "bad key" appears each time the phone starts.
But the real problem is that I do not find any TWRP for him and I saw a post from a friend saying that the basic motog has a more annoying encryption system than the plus / play
