Galaxy Note 8 Pink Line of Death ? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi
Note 8 dropped unfortunately. Now a Pink line is visible like the S7 edge. Is this a hardware failure or because of dropping it?

I think the pink line is the least of your problems there but I expect it was a result of dropping it.

Feel your pain.
Out of interest, how and where did you drop it for that sort of damage?

Did you not get the one time free screen replacement offer from Samsung when you got the phone? If yes, then you should be covered. I am not using any screen protector because of this offer. Plan to get the screen replaced before the end of 1 year (i.e if I still have the phone).

Have you tried turning it on and off?

Yeah I'd say it is a safe assumption that whatever happened to your phone also resulted in that pink line. OUCH!

Question about metal bezel on note 4

Got my replacement note 4 a few days ago,and noticed that the metal bezel sits a little bit higher off the glass on one side then the other, was wondering if this is a normal ,and by off the glass referring to metal lip around glass, not a huge deal,but...None the less it's there.
Your saying that the metal trim....is thick? As in its raised a couple mm? Mine Has It Straight All around....Not Going Above Or Unto Of The glass.
Lol I mean the metal trim raises above the glass, but not evenly.
Yea it's raised above the glass....but evenly lol BRO just enjoy your phone already don't dwell on it bro

If it is a refurbished device I would send it back. Might of been put together wrong and down the road you don't wanna get the blame .

Dude I think that's your "gap". Every note 4 has one. it isn't that much a problem like I thought I'd be. I clean my screen all the time hate fingerprints and smugness but I'd say it's "normal" according to the Galaxy Note 4 manual.
Here's 1 more pic,little clearer I guess..

Dont worry least your whites dont have hue of pink and yellow to them.
Nah...my first 2 did tho..I feel ur pain on that one,I didn't even want to use my first 2 because of pink hue.
yeah mine has that slight offset. It's the screen that is uneven. Not the frame. It no biggie for me tho. Enjoy your Note 4. Try not to let it bother you.

Yea I am trying, I kinda thought it was the glass for whatever reason, not sure how..Glad to know I'm not the only one tho, makes it into more of a common deal with this phone.

Little physical imperfections like that are pretty common with all phones. My Note 4 has a slightly loose power button, my Nexus 5 screen was about a millimeter higher on one side than the other...
Unless it's really causing an issue for you I wouldn't worry about it.
I can live with Minor imperfections like this since I trade up phones ever year but screen issues are a big No No for me. God gifted me with 21-21 vision.

White Galaxy Note 5 Question

Hey all, I just got a white Galaxy Note on Tuesday of last week, I LOVE this thing and while I miss having root on my Nexus 6... I am still loving this device on the stock rom. (Packages Disabled) However, I am having one issue with the build and I am hoping this is just how all of the Note 5 devices are... On the back glass, where the glass meets the metal bezel on the sides... There is the slightest sliver where the white ends and you can see a sliver of black before the metal. Anyone else have this? If so, I am going to stop worrying about it. Lol.

On a white AT&T note 5 (n920A) I do NOT have any black.. the white back meets and joins directly with the silver edge trim.

Damnit... It's so small that I want to overlook it because I don't want to return mine and get one of the many other issues. Dead pixels, bad screen colors, etc.
What do you think guys? Should I swap it at T-Mobile? I picked it up in store so I imagine they'd just hand me a new one.

I've tried pixel fixers and testers on YouTube and nothing seems work...tmobile just told me I can get a third note 7..... I think I will and skip the update... I believe that because that phone uses oled screen then there is no such phenomenon as stuck pixels. On oled screen pixel is either glowing on or off ( with different brightness of course ). If you see those spots with screen off than I would assume that screen was overheated, glue holding front glass to screen has melted and there are tiny air bubles or you have screen protector on your phone and there are air bubles under screen protector. Other possibility would be physical damage to fingerprint resistant oleophobic coating of the screen.

No screen protector.... I think it might be the glue heated up causing the bubbles

As I stated in previous post in other thread: After looking at pictures I clearly see that this is manufacturing issue and not from over heating battery issues. This can be due to lots of things like sitting on device, something with weight was on device, drop (even small drop), minor heat (like major video processing (CPU & graphics chips heating issue), etc) etc. Gluing glass is not perfect. Which means this can be treated as manufacturing defect.
My guess with this situation: I would say that bubble is due to not proper gluing that seperating the glass & screen from CPU and graphics chips heating due to heavy video processing and lack of ventilation (like in VR headset).
I also stated what to do in a previous post in other thread: This is a warranty issue and can return (under T-Mobile's new return policy for Note 7) or exchange. If want to exchange under warranty then you can return device and get a loaner phone from T-Mobile to use until new Notes start manufacturing again or wait for recall. That is unless you want another device then take advantage T-Mobile's return new policy for the Note 7 and get another device.
You stated: I'm tempted to try the heat gun and some pressure
I said: This is something I would try. Just don't over heat.
The heat gun thing may or may not work due to now an air bubble and may not have enough glue on that spot. Which then an exchange or return would the options (look at my previous post on the exchange and return options).
I would do an exchange thing. Either return now as part of exchange while using a loaner (while waiting on manufacturing to start again) or wait until either manufacturing starts again or recall to return/exchange. But that is me.
It is Samsung saying they will start manufacturing after adding better QC that gives me to want to the exchange thing. But like I said they can change that idea. Then they would have a return recall thing. Either way wanting to start out on the exchange with plans to follow through a return recall if need to be seems to be a good plan.
Again: This is a manufacturing defect and not an over heating battery issue.

note 8 to be here any minute. nervous

My note 8 should be delivered any minute now. I'm nervous it'll have some defect. Almost every Samsung phone I've had prior did.. From wobbly home buttons to the light leak to crooked screens. What do you think my chances are it could be perfect and not have any of those problems? I'm mostly concerned with the light leak... Which my note 7 had and my s7 edge has too. I've even had a couple that got here already with some scratches on it.
If every Samsung phone you had prior had defects why buy the note 8 knowing it also does? Sucker for punishment? Lol joking
You'll be fine... think positive.
One word: Warranty
Don't worry it will be fine. My note 8 works great. Goes to work for me. Cooks and cleans as well. Just trying to teach it fetch a beer for me and life will be completed.
Jokes aside phone is pretty reliable don't worry bro. Like others said warranty and no worries. Come close to 12 month range get samsung care and extend it even longer. Nothing in life is full proof. The most reliable things some batches of product will be bad.
I'm hoping since I'm buying it 4 months later that it will hopefully be a new batch with the light bleed issue fixed?

I haven't had a defect on any of my Samsung phones, and take it from a guy who spent a month thoroughly convinced that his $1300 256gb Korean Note 8 had a flawed antenna, only to eventually figure out that it was actually his own early version CSC patch that was causing his crap LTE signal. After tearing the phone apart...

I wouldn't count on it. I dont think Samsung considers it an issue. I guess I dont really either. Its just the edge of the glass curve emitting light like a fiber optic cable. As soon as you put a case on its gone. I got the alcantara case and it's completely covered. And it's a low profile case. Maybe Samsung will paint the glass edges next time.

People keep calling it light bleed. It kind of bothers me too. Its not light bleed. More like light transfer. Like fiber optics.
Look at the barcode area and see what the hardware revision is. It's sometimes labeled as H/W v1.0 etc...

Hey guys. Finally got the phone yesterday and... This is the best phone ever made. It came perfect... Not a single scratch. I did notice the "light bleed" or whatever you call it around the edges but idc... My note 7, s7 edge had the same thing and I bet almost every note 8 does. Immediately put on a unicorn beetle case. This thing is so fast and amazing. I'm truly blown away. I actually really like the fingerprint scanner location and it's faster than the one that was on the note 7 for sure. I love not having a physical home button. They used to be misaligned and wobble and it drove me nuts. Anyways, I'm loving nova launcher olkn this phone.
Now I'm wondering which apps I should disable and certain settings to tweak to get the best battery life?
So.... At this pace I'd get around 10 hours screen on time?! Battery dropping 5% in 30 mins... Brightness is around 35%.
Is that the case with the built in screen protector? If so can it be removed or do they make a version without the screen protector?

GALAXY Note 9 Screen quality?

I have in the past used Note 1 then upgraded to Galazy S4 and now Note 9. When I tried all these devices in store before buying. Their screens appeared to be excellent. But once I bought them and used them for a few days I slowly started to see issues with screens. The note 1 I had slowly developed this redness on right edge of the phone over time visible only on grey background under low brightness. I got it replaced 3 times but then gave up. After that when I switched to S4 it had this reddish top and greenish bottom visible only on low brightness and white or light grey background. I got it replaced once and again got a similar screen with the same issue plus overall slightly yellowish tint on the whole screen. So once again I gave up and was using the same device from past 5.8 years. Now when I tried the Note 9 in stores i just loved the screen and ordered it. Now after using it for a few days I find on light backgrounds that the screen is slightly brighter at the bottom than the top. In fact it's like it's whiter at the bottom than at the top. I was thinking are there amoled screens which have uniform whiteness/brightness across the screen. In all other aspects the screen is perfect to me but this issue once I know it's there is somewhat annoying to me. How is your screen ?

You do know that Sony is failing in the smartphone department right? They currently in the same situation as LG. Unfortunately, the screen won't save their smartphone division.
Edit: Playstation is where Sony gets their money these days. Sad to see.
"A growing thorn in Sony’s side is its mobile handset business which counts its revenue, primarily from its Xperia line of handsets under the Mobile Communications segment. Sales of $6.88 billion were down 5% from the previous year and the group posted a loss of $255 million.
The mobile communications group guided to a further 12% drop in sales for fiscal 2018 and a projected loss of $138 million. The group does see some light at the end of the tunnel – 5G wireless technology."
They gave been losing money year over year, quarter over quarter man. Their lack of innovation is dragging them down like LG.
By the way, last edit. Sony didn't make that OLED screen. LG Display did.
Displaymate rated the Note 9 as having the best display ever on a mobile phone. Just as they did for the S9, and Note 9 before that. Pretty much every new top of the line Samsung device trumps the best there was before it.... and the best there was has pretty much always been on a Samsung device. Sammy makes the best displays.
In any case, you can find other very good displays on other phones that look pretty much as good, but when a place like Displaymate puts a "best ever" sticker on a device's display, it is for a reason. Note 9 display is not much different than the Note 8 display for instance, but it is enough of an improvement to warrant the top billing from Displaymate.

Actually,it appears to be nothing more than a marketing company hired by Sony:
https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/legal/testresults/xperia-xz3/
https://www.strategyanalytics.com/
https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=1051783
All companies on this level tend to use such garbage "research" for marketing, all claims like this should come with an e-coupon code for a pinch pound of salt.
What's worse is peeps getting their panties in a wad, feeling the need to either rationalize their choice in phones, trolling those that have "x" phone,& the fanboi behavior that's fueled by the fluff articles.
The Note 9 is a nice phone, got one myself.
Is it the absolute best out there? In the eye of the beholder & nothing more.
Others choosing something else is equally fine, one would be hard-pressed to actually find a truly terrible phone w/o intentionally seeking one out.
Note 9 earpiece smudges won't go away
Hey I guys I bought the note9 from 6 days ago. One day I was just rubbing the top bezel ( the space that has selfie camera, iris, led, ect) suddenly I saw 2 smudges, one above the earipeice, one under. I kept rubbing it and it doesn't go away. I believe that maybe when I was rubbing my hands were sweating so water entered beneath the glass. Here's a picture I posted here so maybe you'll get what I mean. If anyone has this issues or fixed please share it here. If the attachment is not working please say.
Thanks

All note 9 owners can you please open any site with white background in google chrome and when the phone is held in hand in portrait mode do you see even slight difference between the white levels at the top and bottom of the screen. Please reply. Its very slight but its there.

I opened Samsung browser with no tabs open white screen. Slightly yellow or warm color. Looks pretty even but if I were to be extremely critical top side is a more darker maybe.
The white is definitely not like the note 8 white . Using amoled photo with slight blue light setting.

My Note 9 has an even white color across the whole screen. It also has a bit truer whites than my Note 8. Part of that may be that my Note 8 is now a year old, but overall I believe Samsung tuned the contrast down a bit on the Note 9 from the Note 8. Just to be clear, I am using the exact same display settings on both phones.... so I am getting an accurate comparison of the Note 9 vs Note 8. There is very little difference, you'd have to literally be looking at them side by side to notice the slight difference.

Thanks
Ahmed

looks as if you have a glass or plastic film. the cutout of the speaker is to high for it being the original glass
Compare home screen icons on the note 8 and note 9. Let me know what difference you see. I see the note 9 not being as sharp. But then on the same token , the note 9 like I said earlier is more natural and appeasing to the eyes.

Exactly that is what I am trying to say. The screen is beautiful with the best whites I have seen on a amoled screen and its pretty even as well. But my eyes seem quite sensitive to screens and I also feel the top is somewhat darker.
