Full screen problem - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I am trying to figure out how to make Google chrome switch to full screen when watching a video on chrome. I know that you can click the box to make full screen, but i want to get rid of the black bars on the sides of the screen and fill the entire screen. The samsung browser fills the screen, but i can not get any other browser to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

So is there any other browsers besides Samsung browser out there that will fill the entire screen?

Just tried Dolphin browser and while i do think it is a good browser, it also will not fill the entire screen when watching a video through Dolphin browser. Still have black strips along sides and not using entire screen.

I don't think you can. This must be a feature and it seems that chrome doesn't have it.
If you want a third party browser, you can try Firefox. (although I don't know if it works).

Is the browser on Gingerbread truly awful?
Im gonna agree. I have problems navigating back on all gb roms, sometimes it just locks up and refuses to do anything, other times it takes ages to load pages.
I've given up on it and use maxathon browser.
Would be nice if we could use the browser from 2.2

I really hate the default browser on gingerbread, I hate it so much that I went back to froyo because of that.
The part I do not like is where I can't scroll a long page all the way from top to bottom with only one swipe. Samsung for some reason copy that crappy iPhone thing to this phone.
the reason I keep using the default browser not 3rd party one is because it continue to load when the screen is off. Yes, I only have EDGE connection.
Sent from my GT-I9000
I've also had many problems with it before i went to CM7.
Why using default browser?
Dolphin works just fine.
I find dolphin quite slow tho.

Chrome for android

Well we've all been waiting for it so here it is http://market.android.com/details?id=com.android.chrome
Has anybody tried Chrome beta on custom ICS roms? Mine, on ics-deck-inc alpha 5, force closes immediately after launching.

Can't get tilt scrolling to work. Anyone got it working?
Scrolling works fine here. But I can't get it to force show desktop versions of certain websites. It'll only show the mobile versions. Also, getting to bookmarks is a bit cumbersome as there are no quick controls as in the standard browser.
Don't expect flash to ever work. Read a FAQ somewhere that there are no plans.
Really wish you could set the us string. Scrolling is super fast.

I agree, it's very fast. Looks awesome on the Xoom. I'm fine without having flash, in fact, I haven't had flash installed for a long time and I've gotten along fine without it. I'll be glad to see some more features added to Chrome.
one thing I noticed (only compared one wiki page) is that chrome for android shows for text (about 2 extra lines) compared to default browser (on my xoom in landscape)
Not regular scrolling. There's supposed to be tilt scrolling where tilting your tablet up or down will scroll using the accelerometer . Also just found out about tab swiping. If you swipe your finger from the edge of the screen you can swipe between tabs. Awesome
Thought tilt scrolling was something different. Guess it doesn't work on tablet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bzdcw6WSr8&feature=player_embedded
not available in my country
Could anyone upload an apk for this?
Thanks!
no flash
So how do I sync this up with my chrome browser with my desktop computer?

I've actually found that Chrome is much slower on my Xoom than the stock browser. Scrolling is rough and pages load quite slowly.

Works good on Eos 1.0.0. I don't really notice any improvement or slowness vs. the stock browser yet. Awesome to see a daily desktop application make its way over to the tablet though.
So, if chrome is just came out then technically what is the browser on the android os? I take it chrome will replace it in future releases?

The stock browser on Android has always been a separate app. Word on the street is that Chrome will replace the stock browser when it's out of beta, and the current browser will no longer be available in the open source Android os.

So sadly to hear that. Flash is still a huge number sites embed it. Hope they support Chrome in the nearest future when it become default browser of Android os

Chrome on Android

I'm an idiot...I've been using Chrome since it came out...I just realized when you have multiple tabs, you can quickly go from one to another by swiping on the edge of the screen....I was always clicking on the dots and then changing tabs...grrr

I cannot wait until I get ICS or get Chrome on GB. Desktop-wise, I have been a Chrome user for a while now.
chrome to phone
Using chrome to phone addon is a quick way to get links and other stuff to your phone from your computer
I like Chrome a lot, I just prefer the appearance of the stock ICS browser, with the full-screen and thumb controls and stuff (which admittedly would be tricky to implement into Chrome with the tab switching, which I also really like). Chrome also has MUCH better tap-to-zoom and text entry than the stock ICS Browser.
But is it just me, or does Chrome seem like a bit of a battery hog?

Agreed - stock ICS wins for me at the moment. Using Chrome on my desktop, though. Seems to be very slim on the desktop.

meh, rendering is only so so
I installed Chrome on my Galaxy Nexus, but it has no flash. I understand the pros and cons of flash, but in my opinion until flash is no longer used, there is no reason to leave it out of the browser. Why hasn't Google rid themselves of flash on the PC?
The sync to the desktop is really useful though. No need to add bookmarks etc everything is just way that it is on computer.
It's my go to browser over opera and stock
Sync is vital to me. I was shocked when I realised that standard Android browser didn't support Chrome bookmarks sync. Like it was on iPhone OS 3 back then. Now I'm angry because Android Chrome is ICS exlusive.
I hope Chrome gets better soon. The ICS stock browser is just so good I can't justify using Chrome for now.

Chrome is horrible compared to the aosp browser

Chrome is way slower and the drawing lags badly on scrolling compared to the aosp browser. There's one to. On here that uses the aosp browser. Its so much smoother and faster. Unfortunately autorotation does not work on that ROM. Why did Google make chrome the default?

Try a rom with the stock browser. It benchmarks higher and it never has to load more of the page when scrolling.
Its the same way on the galaxy nexus. They just let you choose in that case which to use.

Unfortunately its the same garbage on this tablet. It was really stupid of Google to make chrome the default and not include the aosp browser. I tried the aosp browser and its butter smooth with zero lag. Chrome on the other hand is a complete lagfest.

Yes...Chrome definitely blows for Android. Sad really. Chrome to phone and all the syncing options are really nice, but the browser itself is just awful. Hoping Google really gives this some love soon b/c as others have said, the stock regular browser that has been on Android forever is so much nicer.
Just by watching videos, I can already tell that I hate the Chrome browser. It can have a horrendous amount of lag, and it is extremely annoying having to watch reviews that show this sub-par browsing experience when I know for a fact that all of this dreadful performance could be alleviated by switching to the AOSP browser. Google quite obviously did this to promote their browser, but it does not do good for the Nexus 7 image.
Hmm have you guys fully updated your n7's? Chrome is blazing fast for me. Haven't had a single issue with it except for Swype entering spaces after every letter in the address bar sometimes.
on my GNex, ICS Browser+ (basically stock ICS browser with some additions) was smoother than Chrome.
it crashes now on JB though.

Negative, been trying this all day. I don't mind chrome. The syncing with the desktop, phone, and tablet is ****ing awesome. Everything else is just ehh. I don't care much for opera or dolphin so I have been searching for all day for a browser apk or browsergoogle apk that will work but to no avail

Yeah there's one rom with it but they forgot to include the blobs for the rotation sensor so it doesn't work. The aosp browser works great though.

That's because it needs the stock browser to work I think. At least that is how it works on my HTC One X. If I freeze the stock HTC browser, ICS + force closes.

Chrome is terribly choppy on the 7. Go to memebase.com and it has massive rendering issues. As long as the website isn't heavy loaded with pictures, chrome is fine.

Google Chrome for GB

I have no clue who to thank for this but it should state it in the thread. But we now have Chrome browser for GB and it works flawlessly. Faster than Dolphin, IMHO. Also has embedded flash player. And chrome to phone plugin works like a charm.
Check it out and enjoy.

trying now,
edit: Hmm
I can't decide if I like it or not. It has some really cool features, and I like it a lot more than dolphin, but I feel like I've had less available memory since installing it and it's just... different. I may switch back to the stock and see if it frees up ram, but I think I'd like this a lot better than the stock browser if I used it more and got used to some of it's quirks.

Wordwrap
The thing missing from this browser as well as most (except stock browser) is the ability to zoom in on text and have it wordwrap to fit on screen. Other than that I like it.

I don't understand. Wordwrap? If i double tap, it wraps fine but if i pinch to zoom, then it doesn't wrap. Is that what you're talking about? Cuz, like you said, that's most browsers.
Double tapping will zoom in but only as far as the text is wide. If you want to enlarge the text more (old eyes ) it doesn't wrap.
In the stock browser there's a +/- buttons that will rewrap text to fit screen.
Oh, by the way, I was not aware of the double tapping thing, that will help me out.

Opera will do word wrapping even if you zoom in like you want to take spy photos of individual words.

UC BROWSER :good:
It's young, sometimes glitchy software, The scrolling Isn't as smooth as others, but generally about two seconds faster to load per page (for me anyways) and thats a lot and it very smoothly TEXT WRAPS no glitchy Double-Tap to zoom and format. Just pich and slide, text auto fits and re-sizes, I love it
also can fling left and right from page to page *cough*Iphone*Cough*
some video playback plug in incompatibilities but it'll come
Trying UC.
Chrome for GB starting in Chinese gives my spidey sense a tingle.
