Hey folks. So I'm trying to update the version of Oreo I'm running on my VZW Galaxy S8 but I can't seem to get Odin to work so I can revert back to Nougat BQL1. It keeps failing for some reason. Here's a copy of the log:

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I had the same problem and then was told to try a usb 2.0 port which solved my issue.

Did what you suggested but I'm now in even deeper. While flashing the system.img to my S8, it hangs at a certain spot for hours on end. I spent all last night trying to get it to work but no luck. Now, I'm stuck with a "Software Update Failed" message on my screen.

Make sure if you are on Windows 10 that there are not updates available for your computer. If not try a different computer or shut down then restart your computer and start the whole process over. You should be able to get back into download mode on your phone.

Been trying to get it to work but no luck. I've tried two different computers, a variety of different firmwares, and even the Verizon Software Repair Assistant with no luck. I'm really desperate at this point. I can't seem to find a solution to the problem I'm having.

Have you tried a different version of Odin? I had very similar issues however, in the end, it was the usb cable.
I had the same issue. I had to reinstall the samsung drivers to my computer. Solved immediately.

I've been trying to go from crag to bql1 and I've been unable to. Same error as above, I'm using same laptop/port that got me to crag. I've tried another laptop and other parts and it just fails, same thing Everytime.
Using same Odin, original usb cable/same that got me to crag. Any ideas for me? Thanks

Im using the cable it came with, in a working port.....
Ok so i just decided to try for some reason putting the CWM file on and install it through recovery....it failed....so i went back to DL mode and tried the flash again....and hey presto, it worked!
not exactly sure why, maybe being in recovery, my computer picked up the missing driver to make it all work, but so far it seems the have magically solved itself :good:
thanks XDA, your the best
I've been trying to flash the TMobile newest firmware to my unlocked Verizon Note 8 but for some reason the flash didn't occur. It ends with the code:
all threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
And the installation never starts, is this normal? for VZW phones can i only flash n950U1 firmwares and VZW?

So I got the unlocked version and downloaded the Beta. Anyway, it's causing problems with some of my apps and neutered down others like gmail you can just auto guess an email address when sending an email and other reasons too I want this POS off my phone.
Someone on android central said go into smart switch. I go in there and it gives no option to roll back. Just asks if you want to transfer from an old device using a cable or do it wireless, no other options.
I don't want this on my phone. I need it off it.
It's usually a good idea to understand how to restore before installing unstable software on your phone... The instructions are on the registration page in Samsung Members, that you visited when you registered for the beta.
Just download the latest Oreo firmware from Samfirm and reinstall with Odin.
I think OP question was about official method to roll back to Oreo. I think he or she would need to use the "deregister" option within the Samsung members app then try using smartswitch or whatever that was mentioned in the official faq .

Yeah, I gave that answer. "The instructions are on the registration page in Samsung Members, that you visited when you registered for the beta."
I am trying this now myself. Backing up first just in case . The option to roll back on the PC via smartswitch was available to me even without deregistering , but we'll seen if it works in a few moments.

interesting i need to try this
Also, from what i have read, downgrading will cause a factory reset, so you will need to setup all apps again. SmartSwitch may help with this ...

Ok, just finished rolling back to oreo using smartswitch via PC. I didn't need to deregister from the Samsung beta member app.
A couple of observations, it wiped the device completely and also the last backup I had performed prior to rolling back oreo ( was a one ui backup ) would not restore my 8.5k text messages. It shows them all in smartswitch on my PC as well as not giving any errors during restore, says successful yet when you open Samsung messages there is nothing there. Just an fyi that the txt messages backup from One UI won't restore back to Oreo.

So if I roll back to Oreo I will lose my text messages even though I backed them up?

No all cool
Like I said, if your backup was performed when you had One Ui then it will not restore your text messages back into Oreo.

I am actually having issues here also. I installed the beta, its fine. But I need to return the phone to Best Buy. I ended up finally getting my Samsung.com order. When I entered the beta I confirmed there is a downgrade path with Samsung Smart Switch. When I connect the phone, it recognizes it, and it even has the option "restore to previous software" simple, I clicked that, it downloaded, rebooted my phone into download mode, and then nothing. Just sits there. I have tried rebooting the PC, a/v turned off. usb 2.0 and usb 3.0, OEM cable and a high end 3rd party cable. Any other idea?
I can use odin, I havent used it since s4 days. But I can do it if needed, I was worried it wouldnt like reverting back to the stock firmware after this beta.

Just plug it in to the computer and flash N950F firmware and just flash it on that error screen.. It will still flash on that screen.

Which bootloader version are you on and what firmware are you flashing?
For example:
If your on N950FXXU"6"DSF6 your on bootloader version 6 so I would flash any N950FXXU"6".... firmware, you can't flash any firmware below that, so no ver 5 or below
(N950FXXU"5"..... not going to flash). Same goes for 5 , 4 , 3, and 2 bootloaders can't downgrade to lower version!
If you're on multi-CSC OXM (csc N950F"OXM"U6DSF6) use any with the OXM in the firmware name.
Use the home-CSC to keep data intacted!
Or
Use the CSC file to erase data and go back to stock.
If you are coming from a carrier csc phone like OVF to OXM you have to use the CSC file.
Try another usb cable and/or usb port.
Please give more information:
What firmware you are on?
What CSC are you on?
What firmware you tried to flash?
Look at the Download mode screen for Bootloader version and CSC.
edit....
Look for the line:
RP SWVER B: 6 K: 1 S: 1 (the B: 6 is your bootloader version).

You can not get into download mode with power+bixby+vol-down at all?
Can you get into recovery mode?
If you can try doing a factory reset or selecting the option to boot into download mode.
Try using Samsung smart switch on pc to do a factory recovery.
Or visit a Samsung repair store.

You are probably better off asking for help in the thread of the rom you tried to flash (try seaching on the thread for the same problem as yours first), or creating your own thread to ask for help.
Hello
My phone starts only in "downloading mode".
My phone: Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950F
Downloaded firmware: N950FXXS8DSK5/N950FOXM8DSK1/N950FXXS8DSK1/N950FXXS8DSK5
I had root. I switched OEM and the phone has not started. I decided to upload the original software but Odin stopped and showed an error. Since then, the phone starts only in downloading. Take a look at the pictures ... this downloading is not normal:
attachment "myphone.jpg"
there is no information as during normal uploading:
attachment: "normal.jpg"
I cannot turn off the phone with the power button. I can only reset by holding VolUP and Power. After restart I have a black screen, I can't turn on the phone. The phone starts automatically after about 1 hour in Downloading mode.
Odin shows:

I can't find any help on this with Google!
Have you tried flashing TWRP again? Then you could try flashing a rom, so at least you have a working device for now.
YES. When uploading TWRP, Odin stops at:
Odin ver 3.12, 3.13, 3.14.
TWRP ver 3.2.1.0,

I wish I knew how to help you further. Keep bumping the thread in a hope that someone more knowledge knows what to do. :fingers-crossed:
Correction. Not VOLUP + POWER, but the phone only reacts to VOLDOWN + POWER.
The phone only responds to the VOLDOWN + POWER button
The phone does not respond to the POWER button.
Maybe it is worth disconnecting the phone and wait until the battery runs out ...
Flash the correct PIT file with odin and it will work again..had the same issue and it worked for me without loosing data
Should I unpack the PIT file from CSC?
