I have network unlocked Galaxy Note 8 N950U1, it's been working very good until I updated January software N950U1UEU3BRA5, keyboard messed up, keep acting crazy, tethering with my laptop is very slow like less than 1MB download, tethering speed used to be very fast up to max speed of the speed test I made on phone. I do speed test on my note 8 itself, download speed average between 80mb to 99mb where I live, but when I test speed while tethering, download speed is less than 1mb. I am so upset now and I don't know whether it causes by new firmware update. Does anyone have this issue?
No one Can help you. Hardreset.
Thanks, however I found out that tmobile blocks high speed data when tethering even I have unlimited data. I tried Verizon sim card on my phone and then tethering, speed is as fast as on the phone itself. So, I know tmobile blocks internet speed when tethering unless I subscribe with "Hotspot tethering", I guess. I hope I can find way to work around.
Samsung released an update for the Samsung keyboard issues. Check your updates on the Galaxy Apps app

weather it be wifi or wired tether, it loads websites extremely slow, despite the fact of a good test speed on my phone, any idea of why this is happening?

Wifi thether or whichever cant procees your IC's full speed. The G1 is limited by the data chip inside, so internet speeds wil be slower then your desktop/laptop.
Same for me. I've done a lot of testing on this. Any sort of tethering, for me, will not yield xfer speeds in excess of about 700k. That's over USB or BT. My phone itself is capable of around 3000k on Wifi (using the Speedtest apk), but much slower through the browser. Max speed tethering over Wifi won't be known till T-Mo starts rolling out HSDPA. But based on the 3000k link over the phone's Wifi, I'm hopeful that a HSDPA-to-Wifi speeds could be in excess of 700k.
Hi All
Had my HD7 for a few weeks now and im liking it, used to be an IPhone user but thats all changed now.
One thing i want to know is that the HD7 is stated as having wireless N capabilities. When im on my wireless N network at home im getting really slow responses from the browser or when downloading apps from the market place (like im on GPRS or non wifi). I have a wireless N network setup and also have 50mb Cable so its not a problem with the LAN/WAN as i can download lightening fast with the lappy or even when i had the Iphone on the same LAN.
Anyone else noticed that the wifi is not very fast? Also is there a "speed test" app that can tell me the sorta speed im getting, used to be one on the Iphone, but obviously cant be flash based, which are most on the web. Did find one non flash based site but im not convinced its that good.
Any advise is appreciated.
I use tracert's non-flash based bandwidth meter and seem to get low reading as well. my max. bandwidth is 15 Mbps yet my HD7 usually tests well below 10 Mbps. Odd. In terms of downloads though, my HD7 is speedy. I downloaded NFS from Xbox Live and calculated it was downloading at about 1 MB/s (which is fair for a 15 Mbps connection). So maybe the speed tests are off.
no problems for me.
It's weird that on IE on the HD2 you could use speedtest.net to test speeds, but on the hd7, it says you don't have the proper flash installed....
Hd 7 dosent support flash yet, maybe with update next year.. as far as I know this is the best device for my wifi although its not N
Hero used to struggle with my wifi but the hd 7 is super brilliant..
Just love it on this one
No problems here. And when it comes to browsing this thing is a pure joy ! Imagine when they will update the browser with Flash 10.1 and overall speed. I browsed today a little longer then usual and when I got home and turned my PC on it all felt boring. This is the first time I am experiencing a far more enjoyable browsing on my phone rather than my PC.
They have done an amazing job
mmm must just be mine then, an app from marketplace on the phone took about 3 minutes to download while on wifi and its just a small notes app. Weird! Ill keep having a look at whats going on.
It's surely something with your phone or with the WLAN. When I am home I am browsing only via WiFi and in my room I only get low signal but even then it runs pretty fast.
I have to disable cellular data and 3g to make my WiFi fast on my hd7. I'm on tmobile and in an edge coverage area. It seems that the phone prefers cellular data over WiFi even when there is a clear speed advantage in WiFi.
I have experienced zero problems with the HD7 over wifi. This is also with T-Mobile coverage in an edge only area. Settings allow for all network types including 3G.
Well im surprised because my experience in Puerto Rico with the hd7 on the internet speed its noe the best.
When use the app's for speed test never come colse to 1 mega and the faster speed its around 400 kpbs its T-Mobile or the phone really i'm think its the phone because my wife have an Lg optimus with android and the same t-mobile but the speed its around 1.2 and 1.5 mbps so if any one have the solutions wow i'm apreaciate to hear about.
In the past month or so, I've surpassed 15GB of data due to lots of video streaming and some torrent downloading. Since then, it seems that any time I try to download another torrent, my speeds are throttled to less than 10KB/s. I usually use ADownloader, and find it more convenient and (previously) much faster than from my home connection, but now when I resume a torrent, ALL data suffers, and am unable to even browse the web or run a basic speed test without timing out. As soon as I pause/stop the download, speeds ramp back up. I should note that if I switch to Wifi, and use my home connection, speeds come back up to what I would expect. So it doesn't appear to be an issue with the software.
I haven't noticed anyone pointing this out, but it does seem that they will throttle torrent users. What I don't understand is why throttle to such a ridiculously slow speed? At least bring me down to 3G speeds (~1MB/s). To drop me to less than 10KB/s is an insult.
What's next? Will they throttle heavy Netflix users? Amazon Prime streaming? etc. Is there really not enough bandwidth to go around? I might call Verizon to confirm/deny my findings so I can figure out what they actually care about. I have a feeling I'm not going to get a straight answer, or they will just not know what is actually taking place
Are you using tTorrent or another client that will randomize the port? Try picking another random port, it usually fixes it.
Those apps are not gentle on your wireless modems. I wouldn't necessarily assume it was Verizon doing it.
I had talked to a verizon customer service lady over the phone and asked her about throttling and she say there poloicy is to never throttle there customers connection. she uses her hot spot on here thunderbolt and exceeds 10g all the time and has never seen throttling so I would think more that it was your software like the aboved has mentioned
having a lot of simultaneous connections like torrents do can cause issues with the modem and wireless hardware, I've crashed my router a few times getting too torrent happy, I assume doing it with something that wasn't made really to handles such traffic would cause issues as well.
I flashed [ROM][CDMA/VZW][2.3.5]Stock+Root Vanilla by dsb9938 and after the root, my 3G speed had slowed down drastically. I'm not sure if its because of the root (I don't really see how) or if in the factory reset, some settings got lost and the speeds are slow. I have also heard of carriers throttling devices that they know have been altered, I don't know if that is the case here.
This tablet is sharing its Verizon 3G connection to provide internet for a restaurant in a rural area. I brought down the internet connection to the store to root the tablet, and as soon as it booted back up and I ran the tether again, the 3G speeds were extremely slow. I don't have any speed comparisons from before and after, but its either the factory reset or flashing that stock rooted rom that made a change for the worse in network speeds.
Any ideas anyone? Its rather critical to get the speeds back to normal on this device.
Thank you in advance, always.
So looking around to figure out a hotspot that works without a need of pda+.. I found this gem.

Need to be root for this to work.
I am on the one plan that has unlimited 3g throttle at 600kps.. did this workaround and now get full speed around 100mb consistently.
Let me know how it works for you.
My device is Tmobile brand-convert to international brand 10.0
Rooted
Stock OOS 10.. with magic.
After use, or during a call it will show no data. Just change your DNS on your PC or device to 1.1.1.1 and it will work. Might have to restart data services when your done to get data back working on the phone itself.
works better if you have right apn for pcweb
