Here's the article: http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/nokia-our-first-priority-is-beating-android/
My first thoughts were....hahahaha! In their dreams.
Open source can't be beat, simple as that. But Google do need to come up with a better strategy for implementing their OS on the devices otherwise fragmentation will drive potential customers away.
In my view WP7 is a step backwards, the UI is horrible with home being filed with tons of tiles that you have to scroll through, no real multitasking, locked down like iOS etc, and now Nokia thinks that this move will beat Android. Are they that arrogant?
I did a speed test comparison between DHD and HD7 and WP7 got its ass smacked, it loaded apps/games much slower.
They should of made a better version of N900, that was not a bad phone but could of been a monster.
Your thoughts?
The day that Nokia has dominance over Android, I will get an iphone. I currently own the 1 and only Evo 4g, rooted, stock. (wireless tether of course).
yeah i think nokia is making a bad move
lol good old nokia trying to make a comeback...
I honestly don't know who even carries Nokia phones anymore They once made really nice phones. Windows mobile or phone 7 or what ever they are calling it this year is in the same boat imo. I carried wm since the HTC 8125. And year after year I pationatly waited for ms to get it right, and they never did. It did get better in terms of reliability but I still had to reset my tilt 2 a few times a week.
I think the team up could be good for them but I could care less.
To me, It's like 2 old men in your neighborhood teaming up and thinking they are gonna take back that snow shoveling biz that they had when they were kids all the while everyone already has the youngsters down the street with their self propelled snow blowers that knock out the jobs in no time.
They pissed off most of us loyal wm folks along time ago and you know how that saying about screw me once, screw me twice goes....not gonna happen to me.

Speaking of steps backwards hows the whole no GPU accelerated UI treating you guys? I'm loving having a homescreen that doesnt look like an iphone ripoff. Nokia has an astounding market share in the European market, they have the power to help drive WP7 much higher. Call it a step backwards if you'd like. It's nice to not have to flash a new rom at least once a week to have a functional phone.
I like Nokias phones. My brother has the n8 and the camera is amazing! hopefully this works out and I'll get a nokia with a xenon flash

There it is, that's what I was waiting for.
UI is hardware accelerated on 2.3 and up, even 2.2 can have it with a minor file modification. How the no copy/paste going? Or hows the whole can't edit a email when forwarding going? When M$ bring out an update will you jump around like a little schoolgirl and call it innovation? C'mon man, the OS is seriously lacking the most important features, it's shameful.
Sure stock UIs layout is slightly like iPhones but looks nothing like it though. You see, I can make the UI looks how I want which fits my needs, not what a few guys think it should be.
Flashing ROMs has nothing to do with having a functional phone, it's only to improve it further and bring out the potential.
Nokia may help with a few sales but many longtime fans will turn around and look elsewhere for a phone to fulfill their needs.
Nokia wont ever beat android

Important features? in the 2 years I had android I can not remember a single occurrence in which I used C&P or needed to edit a forwarded email. Would it be nice? Sure. Is it necessary? Not at all. The point is while android has these features most of them are haphazardly thrown together and hardly functional where what WP7 has (even though it is lacking some features) truly works without having to jump through hoops. GPU acceleration is possible apparently on 2.3 plus but due to fragmentation and other issues it isn't implemented. If you can truly say the vibrant with its impossible lag or the dodgy touchscreen on the cliq or any of the other ill built phones were functional before custom roms your much more prone to fanboyism than I. It's nice to have a phone that really works, android was a low-end alternative to the iphone, putting it on high end devices is like throwing a Chevy cavalier engine in a lambo, it just makes them look bad except to the community thats always flashing roms which frankl, I dont have the time for any more.
I think Nokia partnering with Microsoft to make WP7 phones is a dumb move. Elop was quoted as saying Nokia is like being on a burning oil platform in the North Sea. So what he wants to do, is to jump onto another burning oil platform called WP7? I think it's entirely due to the fact that Elop is a former Microsoft exec!
I wasn't at all surprised, when I read an article yesterday that said investors were so upset with the news that Nokia stock price fell 14% and many Nokia employees were so upset, they used flex time and left work early.
What I think Nokia should have done, is partnered with Google and used Android. These new phones should be supplied with some kind of proprietary libraries or emulation that only works in Nokia phones to allow existing Symbian apps to run seamlessly. That way, it would provide a practical upgrade path for existing Nokia phone owners. This worked great for Apple when they went to OS X which was a completely different UNIX-based architecture, but used Rosetta to allow old PPC Mac OS apps to run. They could even market a play on words with Symbian related to symbiosis.
I just don't see how going to the smartphone platform with the least market share will help matters. WP7 has less market share than even old WinMo 6.x according to current stats.

Your whole argument is based on the foundation that WP7 in 4 months didn't sell as much as WM did since 03? Really? Ya don't say? Their choices were either be just another fish in the android OEM pool that would have received no more attention and no more rights than any other or be THE manufacturer of WP7. Really though, why would you jump from marketing symbian to marketing some re-skinned version of android... that's like jumping from Windows ME to windows Vista. They're both buggy and both require tons of modification before they're usable. Android only sold because it was marketed by google and essentially looked like a low-end iphone for every carrier. WP7 is innovation, it currently lacks a few basic features but what it does have works and thats more than any other OS except iOS can say and honestly, who wants those hardware limitations and ugly UI?
Well, we all know what Vic Gundotra thinks about this...

No, my whole argument is based on WP7 being a sales FAIL. The comparison to WM is only a point of reference, because it's generally well accepted that except for a few fanboys, nobody likes WM.
No, their choices were to use Android, a product that people actually WANT, vs WP7, a product that nobody wants. It doesn't matter how awesome or innovative you may think WP7 is, if nobody wants it, nobody's going to buy it. So if Nokia wants to make money, and unless I'm mistaken, but all companies exist to do one thing and that is make money, they should choose the platform that makes money rather than one nobody wants.
You're saying iOS has an ugly UI? Compared to WP7? Seriously? For most people I know (and according to sales figures, most people worldwide), the UI is what turned them off to WP7 and drove them to Android or iOS.

This is basic functionality I use most days. Even if I used it monthly the whole point is that when I need it it's there, thats the power of android. You don't need all the features every day, but when you do need it its all there ready.
I will take a speedy UI and no c&p over the opposite any day. No one dropped wp7 and turned to Android or IOS because of the UI. No one has used wp7 because they're a fanboy of either of the other oses and think anything else is wrong. Wp7 in its first poor iteration has a more complete feeling than any of the 30ish Android devices I've owned and that's just sad. Wp7 is small now because people fear change regardless of how much smoother the user experience is.

Not true. The only fanboys I know are on this site. I've recently talked to many smartphone n00bs who are getting a smartphone for the first time. Just from playing with the phone in the showroom, they narrow it down to Android or iPhone. WP7 is never even considered. Some people will switch from Android to iPhone and vice versa. People on this forum excluded, I don't know anyone who has even considered going from iPhone to WP7 or Android to WP7. Even my wife, who isn't even remotely a fanboy, has no interest in WP7 simply because she doesn't like how, "it looks so plain and boring". Maybe people would love WP7 if they actually used it for awhile, but Microsoft can't even get them through the door, much less reel them in.
Wp7 needs a mascot like a bald guy in a turtleneck or a little green robot. Then it would be srsbiz.
Ok, well I figured instead of a thread where everyone just comes in and posts their favorite OS it would be nice to put a little bit more thought into our posts. So, what are your opinion on these 3 OSes and what would you say their strengths and weaknesses are? My opinions are as follows;
Android:
Strengths- Completely open source and all APIs readily available, huge market of apps, best hardware selection.
Weaknesses- Ugly and laggy user interface due to no hardware accelerated UI, OEM's additions to the UI generally suck, able to get viruses, terrible fragmentation, worst update process ever.
General opinion- It was fun but flashing roms at least once a week was getting annoying and the fact that the update process is generally non-existent is an annoyance. It's terrible knowing that if I went out and bought the latest 2.2-2.3 phone today it's highly unlikely that it would ever see 2.4 or whatever the next iteration might be.
___________________________________________________________________
iOS:
Strengths- Best supported OS and devices on the market to date, fluid UI, best market, always nice devices, best update process imaginable, Netflix.
Weaknesses- Hideous UI, severe hardware limitations, not as open as android.
General opinion- Apple is scared to change a tried and true formula and though the minuscule 3.5 inch screen may be fine for some for me and many others it's just dated. The UI is just as cluttered as your average android UI though to their credit it is smooth.
___________________________________________________________________
Windows Phone 7:
Strengths- The hardware selection paired with Xbox live and new titles like Ilomilo and Fable Coin Golf make it the best mobile gaming platform in my opinion (iOS would take the cake but I cant game on a screen that tiny), the UI is refreshingly new and intuitive and does not lag, great update process, Netflix, great hardware selection.
Weaknesses- very few APIs open to developers, limited app market by comparison to the other two, "very locked down" in most peoples opinions, not much room for customization.
A lot of people are scared of Windows Phone either because they had a terrible experience with Windows Mobile or they were one of the few who had a great experience with WinMo and didn't want it to change. If you want an OS that is great out of the box that you don't have to build on then in my opinion this is your guy. I've used about every mobile OS out there and this is the only one that has really stuck to me. The uniformity across the OS and the way everything is so well integrated could not have been done better. I admit it has a ways to go before it can keep up with some of the bigger fish in the sea but for the time being the overall user experience is so good that I don't mind at all. Not once on android did I find a game I enjoyed half as much as Ilomilo or Fable Coin Golf. It really is better than most give it credit for.
well, i wanna add something to the iOS section. After the last update, the iPhone 3g has become laggy. All i wanna say is that apple doesn't care much about how its old devices "act" with its new iOS.
I have an android phone (gs3) but i can't say much about that OS, because I have had it for 1 month.
I don't have any experience with win phone 7 OS. But I have heard good things.
Android
Strengths: Open source which leads to several choices to software (ROMs) and hardware. Based on Linux. As an open system it's available for experimenting and learning.
Weaknesses: Market haven't reached it's potential yet. Google needs to control the fragmentation.
General Opinion: I prefer Android due to the strenghs I just mentioned.
iPhone
Strengths: Best market in the phone industry, smoother interface than the rest.
Weaknesses: Apple is the worst company in terms of options. It want everything to be done by it's means. iPhone is the most expensive phone (not only terms of apps) as sometimes you must pay for an update.
General Opinion: iPhone -as a device- is a great device. But I realy dislike the policy of Apple in almost everything. Apple treats its customers as robots by not giving them option ands sometimes by -almost- comanding them what they should like. Famous Jobs phrase says it all: "People don't know what they want until you show it to them"
Windows Phone 7
Strengths: Not a major one.
Weaknesses: To many to write down...
General Opinion: Indifferent.
z33dev33l well done for opening this post. It should be intresting.

Been using the Android OS since dec 08 and never had one virus. Hell on my evo I download torrents on it all the time and not once have I ever had a virus.
Android and iOS scale rather well from phone to tablet. WM really doesn't. Also WM doesn't even begin to have the ecosystem (users, developers, apps, etc.) that Android and iOS do.
Android's biggest issue right now is a lack of some of the kind of commercial apps that iOS does, like the iWork suite. I am seriously considering getting an iPad 2 depending on how much it's going to cost to get my MBP serviced.
Ultimately, it's about the tools you need. I love my EVO 4G which I wouldn't trade for the world. But I also need to be productive and "get stuff done" and so whether that's Mac OS X or Windows 7 on a laptop, or iOS on a tablet, I'm going to use the best tool(s) I can find.
I use an Android on my private phone (HTC Legend) and don't want to miss it again.
In comparison to that i have an company phone (HTC HD7) with Windows Phone7 and it is frustrating to see a good hardware phone with such a bad software -> to many things are not working.
Two examples:
Downloading some pictures from the windows phone only works with one software ... on an other operating system you really have a problem to get the pictures without syncing them over the cloud
Or synchronizing mails and calendar with an Exchange-Server without an official SSL certificate ...
I never had such problems on Android or Symbian ...
If I worked for a company which required me to wear a phone, then I would accept (not necessarily gladly, to be sure) whatever phone they issued, and I would ensure it was THEIR problem to resolve any difficulties, limitations, or whatever else regarding operational capabilities.
My attitude in such matters is a rather unsympathetic "Hey, you people made the bed, so now you can sleep in it".

Windows Phone 7 is growing faster in terms of apps than either android or iOS did when it started and both of those are much more open. It also holds the strongest percentile increase in developer interest month after month.
iOS destroys in battery life. But I'm still Android after switching back. Too much pros then cons with Android.

Try developing an application that should be compatible with hundreds of devices, from crappy ones to the high end ones, with different screen sizes and resolutions, processors, gpus.
I don't think we should try and search for excuses, cause he's actually right.
Most of the Market apps simply look like crap. Most of the iOS apps simply have an advanced design, if you look at power apps like Titanium Backup: It's one of the feature-richest apps out there and really good. But it looks like a DOS program that was designed in 1986 like Norton Commander or, to summarize it, like crap.

ios doesnt dominate though.
Worlds most popular smartphone is Android.
Worlds most popular mobile os is Android.
Apple does dominate on the Apps though and i do agree with the OP. Android market place needs to shape up.
it's easier to make apps for iOS because each device has pretty much the same codingm just different sizes, you got two iOS devices on the market in a pocket size (the iTouch and the iPhone, the iTouch being pretty much an iPhone without the phone app and the GSM/CDMA workings) and you got two tablet's the iPad 1 and 2 (which isn't that different, the only thing about the 2 that is different is that it's thinner and has a front facing camera. That's apple for ya, make a small modifacation and call it revolutionary, yet the damn thing lacks a mini-USB port and doesn't do wifi all that well unless you are within line-of-sight of the source (router, antenna, bluetooth, etc)
however, you android you got devices to this say still operating on 1.5 and up, so, it's a bit harder,
for example, some conpanies have it right, SiriusXM's premium app being one of those, but, that is mainly a port of the iPhone app (that app looks the same on all devices, tells me they either ported it or tried to make it universal, flycast is the same way, though the blackberry UI looks a bit different)

Facebook is an absolute joke on android, and ebay isn't much better

Well here's a source - http://www.eweekeurope.co.uk/news/report-android-becomes-world-smartphone-leader-19634 I just thought this was common knowledge.
iphones aren't even World second. They come a miserable third.
There is also an article i read that i can't be bothered to find about the type of people that purchase iphones. Most people that purchase iphones are low income earners. And the perception these people have are that high income earners tend to purchase iphones, when in fact the trend is that they dont. Low income earners in general also think iphones are the best product available, and that is why they are willing to (stupidly?) hand over more money for a phone that is more expensive.
That is why the rich stay rich, and the poor stay poor.....that is, poor people generally have lower iq's and tend to fall for marketing and advertisement easier than rich people.
I myself am not rich, but i am also not stupid. My Android phone does everything an iphone can do (although i admit the app store is not as good as iphone app store), and i pay £26/month for a free phone, 600 minutes talk time/unlimited texts and a sizeable amount of data.
Androids all come with free sat navs etc.
The iphone cant touch this deal. Standard iphone contracts here in the UK are £40/month plus you need to pay a large amount of money extra for sat navs etc.
iphones in the United Kingdom are a complete rip off, and i must admit the people i see using them are your typical chav type people who spend all their spare cash in the pub getting drunk after work.
Business people have blackberrys, and cool people have Androids in my area

I have to agree, a lot of Android apps are not really polished and often are confusing to use.
But on the other hand you can do stuff which is flat out impossible on iPhone -- e.g. WidgetLocker.
You guys are forgetting Apple has strict rules for the App Store. Even design rules.
Looking at this discussion i am a little confuded. What do you people asking from your phones? To look glamour or to work smooth? Me I am really happy to have possibility changing every day look of my desktop and to install new apps only to look how it works on my Defy. I am really new user of Android and still learning. Whole differences between IOS and Android remainds me differences between McIntosh computers and PC's. Why can't you have both?
The smartphone "revolution" to call it something, came about by Apple being able to precisely do both: A phone that did a lot of stuff the other platforms were basically clueless about, and did it in a pretty way. Even today, the iPhone and iPad are *beautiful* pieces of hardware that are sort of being challenged by some of the Android OEM manufacturers (Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes to mind, HTC Incredible feels a lot like the iPhone 4).
Most of us are Android fans here, but don't let yourself be turned into a fanboy and be blinded by the truth, give Apple its due credit for, well, basically jumpstarting an entire industry around smartphones.
If Android is to really succeed it needs both to be functional *and* pretty. The smartphone is as much a tool as it is an accessory - denying it won't make it less true.
And to close, I'd like to point you to exhibit A - Linux desktop (I had Linux on my desktop for cpl of years, years ago - Today I use Win7)
For years on end as far back as I can remember, Linux users and fans would tout the technical aspects of Linux and how it is far superior to anything else out there. Things like memory management, speed, modularity, customizability, resiliency, etc. are all very impressive. And utterly irrelevant for like 99.99% of users (it might be 99.98% i'd need to check
What matters more to most users is how it actually feels to use it. How it feels to have one.
Both fan community and developer community (most of which are also fans) need to come to terms with this truth. It doesn't matter if Android is technically superior and super-duper customizable. For the masses, it needs to be pwetty and smooth.
The new Market needs to improve in load & download times. It can take ages for the Market to load & sometimes takes forever to download an app on wifi.

I feel as if a phone should be smooth yes, but to give up functionality for the capability of saying "hey look how smooth scrolling back and forth looks on my idevice!" is absolutely insane, my personal opinion is this being able to 30 thousand times as much with your device > "look at my scrolling!"
this comes down to another thread come up recently about android never getting hardware acceleration, which i honestly think will happen from select manufacturers (i.e. prolly HTC if this lawsuit doesnt kill them and samsung at least will pay an entire crew of software engineers to make their androids as smooth as the idevices for the sake of ridding android of the ONLY thing anybody could ever complain about) and after that happens the market will be even more cornered than it is now, android absolutely dominating every feature, actually innovating with google's money instead of sueing anybody who has ever used a touchscreen in their device, and the general population will probably open their eyes and see just how exponentially much more android can do than MeeGo/WebOS/iOS/WP7/WinMo/Blackberry and they will wonder why they didnt switch in 2010 like those who foresaw this coming. dont get me wrong wp7/iDevices are awesome electronic products by all means and they suit the simple standard "i want to open the box, play one game every week, text a bit, and call my 1-4 friends with no work" consumer's needs, but android can fill EVERY consumers needs, yes android in theory requires more time to set up, if you want to, and if you dont want to? then you dont! but the thing is android gives you the choice to make a virtual representation of yourself/your personality if you so desire. NOBODY else offers this, or half of androids features and thats why I personally use Android over any other OS. not because android is better, but because it CAN do more.

That would be perfect, but as we all know, perfection is always a goal to achieve, in reality hardly exist. Usualy you have to choose... If you want good lookin', you can have it, but often not much more. If you want something good working, sometimes as a bonus you can have good look

I am strongely agree, we all have to give credits to Apple for starting and competing what moves all bussiness. And it is only for good so ways of Apple and another producers are different. We have opportunity to choose what we like.

Do you still like the android platform?
or will be you next phone windows phone 8 os or iphone (ios)?
Never
I will never stop loving android and hate apple fanboys.
i have tried both windows phone 7 and ios, and they are very unique and interesting to use. But after a while u will start to get bored using the same old platform and i think android is the same. I heard Mozilla has released a "firefox os" and written based on HTML5 or so. Looking forward to it ^^
I also like and will still like Android.
Windows and iOS are so "closed" and so "B* I'M FABULOUS!" ... where changing wallpaper is max of your coustomization possibilities

Agreed.
I've been using a lumia 800 for a couple of days and frankly i think i could get enogh of it soon
Also forming part of a community of people wanting to develop tweak and wanting more from your phone means something, at least to me, i recently realized that i like all the rooting, trying new roms, tweaks, scripts, customization and contributing to this community, i don't see the other 2 platforms giving me the same

loving a platform and hating the fanboys are two entirely different things. lol.
i too hate the "iFans", but the OS's fluidity is just amazing "NOW" (after flash is not going to be supported on droids too. a sad case because still now 70% of all websites use flash and not HTML5 ). there are a few common games for both the platforms. try and play both simultaneously. the iOS handles them reallllllyyy wellllll.

now, i hafta differ. android is great. i bought back my OB from my frnd whom i had sold it off, because i just LOVE android customizablility. BUT, i also have bought a lumia 710 (it's 90% lumia 800, save for the camera, extra storage and the screen tech) and gotta say i kind of like it better than the android platform.
WP7 has a few nice things up it's sleeve. first and best is battery life. lumia 710 is having a 1300 MAh battery, yet gives me about 2 days with 2g always on (that means syncing SNS and live tiles all the time), about 4/5hours of music, few snaps, etc. also, the level of SNS integration is just mindblowing. maybe there are less apss and games, but i actually don't play much. line birds, line runner as games and the super awesome "photosynth" app, a toggle app, a live card and a doc scanner. dats all. nokia also has given 2 nice apps as "camera extras" and "creative studio". all to say, am really really REALLY satisfies with the WP7.5 (and with 7.8 the homescreen is gonna be much better )
am using it for less than a week and already by OB has turned into my 2nd phone.
and mind you, there ARE a couple o' ROMs for the lumias at xda.
i've tried my friends' iphones and windows mobiles for about a week each
the iphones are damn smooth(sometimes they have slight lags)
windows mobile am fed up then when i see, those platforms aren't for me
they are too monotone to me
i love my android and am now using it as it was created for(games, emails, youtube, homework, camera, facebook, skype)
when i feel like buying another phone, i think about mine and say to myself...will i really use those features?
then i look at mine and remember the day i bought it and its wonderful features
no, i'll stay android if ios7 is still like this
I like Android very much!!! Very customizable, and it's getting better and better
Time for Android
Pros:
Very customizable
Updated quite often
Has a lot of features
Custom roms, themes, etc
Flash support! Though Flash for mobile will be soon discontinued by Adobe :/
Android exists among all types of phones; low,mid and high-range phones, therefore it is very flexible in terms of budget/choice of the customers.
And so on
Now, the Cons:
Not well fragmented; lag exists & it has quite a lot of problems compared to other OSes
Does not support many games, compared to iOS
Laggy browsing experience with ANY browsers.
The OS sometimes require powerful phones to run smoothly, thus making more expensive phones better, and cheap phones worse.
Your android powered phone can be easily bricked and has more software issues than other OSes; this is because building Android for 1000s of phones is really not easy, while iOS and WP7 are supported by very few devices, making the development of the OS very easy and better.
And MANY more
Now turn to iOS
Pros:
Very well fragmented; a 600Mhz device can run very smoothly.
Has very low software issue.
HTML5 support, super smooth browsing experience ahead!
Very hard to brick an iPod/iPhone lol
Games, games, GAMES!
Has featured apps which are quite useful (Siri, iMessage, etc)
iOS have a more professional look than Android, but less than WP7.
Super easy to use! Even my 3 year old niece can use it.
Has free cloud storage by default
And many more...
iOS is not without cons:
Can be extremely boring for some people.
no customization, unless you jailbreak, which still allows you less customization than Android.
Supported only by iPod/iPhone, restricting consumer choices/
Software updates makes older devices obsolete and outdated, forcing customers to buy new iPod/iPhones.
Apple = purely marketing... People buy iPhones blindly XD
No bluetooth file transfer to other devices!!
And so on...
I didn't not really used a WP7 powered phone, but from what I see, it is a very good and fluid OS!
Pros:
So much simplicity, so fluid, so COOOL!
Damn it runs at 60fps like all the freaking time! Practically no lags. - Extremely well fragmented.
Perfect to impress others lol, the OS is very well presented and looks like a premium OS.
More customization than Apple's iOS
HTML5 support, super smooth browsing experience ahead!
Xbox User can use Xbox Live on their WP7 Phone!
Has free cloud storage by default
Easy to use.
WP7 phones gets major software updates.
Now the Cons (there may be more):
No bluetooth file transfer! Just like iOS
Not as customizable as Android.
For some, the UI can be very boring.
And some more...
If I had to decide which is the best Operating System for phones, it would have been extremely hard!!
To simplify the decision I would divide it into categories:
In terms of Choice, Functionality and Customization; ANDROID
In terms of Apps, Stability and Ease; iOS
In terms of Fluidity, Professionalism and Ease; Windows Phone 7
I am not surprised to be using a WP7 phone in the future as I like the UI so much.
I think im going to use wp 8 if it come our or wp 9
for the future, it's unpredictable all os are good
ios and wp are said to be fluid and here comes jelly bean
its to your taste
i myself dont know what i'll really buy next time
but i prefer ios or android

Idont like that some android device dont get update but the can handel it google need to say something about it because a iphone with lower specs than a iphone 4s is slower or the same speed

I know WP is missing a ton of apps. But I can't think of anything android or iPhones do better than WP.
I had the Lumia 900 and upgraded to 920. also my work phone is a Samsung galaxy android .
It seems that everything's slower and breaks on android.

Most of the missing apps are rendered useless and pointless by the system. Having such a good OS makes apps not needed in some cases (for instance, WP does not need battery saver type of apps, whereas Android does, you do not need decent apps to view photos, check email, etc because system apps are good enough and examples could continue). SO the fuss over "omg WP has a lot of apps missing" is pure misinformation.
WP trumps over Android. Idk about iOS, but Android is leagues behind.
I completely agree. I just cannot think of a single instance where android or IOS trumps wp. Its a bit mind blowing that windows phones are better and cheaper but idiots are still buying android and apple

Because Android is a little more mature, as far as popularity is concerned (it is on the market for longer than WP has been), the same goes for apple.
Android also packs up more hardware power (because the hardware has to make up for poor software, and in most cases, the hardware is simply not capable of doing so) and for the average joe it means it is better. As far as Apple is concerned...well...people will blindly follow the brand anyway.
There's also the developer problem, most people go with Java because Java is thought in collage more than C++ or C# is. This is also a big advantage Android has.
on a side note...
I wonder how a quad core Windows Phone 8 will be like...
Really need Teamviewer or Logmein or VPN
Teamviewer, Logmein, or VPN really needs to be implemented in WP. As a early adopter and a happy 920 Owner I was really hoping to see this in WP8 hope it comes soon a lot of IT individuals can't make the switch because of this.

The problem with wp and ios are not the apps per se, but rather that there are entire classes of apps that they cannot get by design.
The easiest examples are custom keyboards (swype) and custom launchers (i.e. if you don't like the default type of start screen, you're out of luck).
But there are much more advanced examples, programs that perform deep system changes in order to add massive functionality:
GestureControl
PGM Nexus
while, unfortunately, MSFT and Apple have generally been cracking down on anything resembling rooting. It would be better if they would let us do whatever we want, and buyer beware.
Ahh got one separate volume settings, I know android can do it. Lol had to reach for that one, especially now that WP supports micro sd
Sent from my RM-878_nam_usa_100 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Besides apps, ios and android are far more mature and so have many features not available on wp8. Examples
Do not disturb mode
Notification centre
Separate volume controls
Sms drafts on android
Send a configurable text response if you cant answer a call
Way better music players with features like gapless playback
Usb tethering
Notification light on android
Wp8 has a lot of catching up to do

It's mind blowing that you can't see that people buy what they want.
Windows Phone isn't for everyone. It's a locked down OS - even more locked down than Apple's iOS.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Lumia, but I'm concerned about how locked down it is.
Android does a lot more: browser choice, tv out, USB On-the-go (which allows you to connect devices to your android phone/tablet), custom firmwares, and more fully featured software.
However it's not as polished and smooth as Windows Phone and iOS.
You may tell me that a phone doesn't need all that, but it's your opinion. Many others use those features daily.

LogMeIn is for us a very important tool to resposnd quickly to clients when not in the office. Hasa anyone already installed LogMeIn Ignition for WP8 ? We also search for an foldable keyboard which works with the Samsung Ativ WP8. Ay idea I love to see
IMHO, There's no point of having a phone with dual/quad core processor if it hangs or freezes quite often. I used Lumia 710 ( which is a low spec phone compared to my new S2), and I have never witnessed any OS sooo smooth. After switching to Samsung S2 (due to lack of apps), I now regret my decision.
