Well this is a bummer. In case folks haven't seen this, Chainfire will be halting all development of root-related products.

Moto X by Ashton Kutcher?

So Ashton Kutcher will be working with Lenovo designing devices. What do you guys think, would you get a moto x "two and a half men edition" ?

Anything Ashton Kutcher gets involved with seems to succeed, I think it's a good thing.

Glad I got my X before he became associated with it. I really can't stand him.

I saw that article too, at least Lenovo is putting some marketing $$$ into their upcoming phones. The MotoX never really got out there as the premium device it is. I only know two others with the X and both bought because I recommended. Never see anyone with an X when I'm out and about.
Ashton Kutcher is only going to be "working" on Lenovo phones. Moto is going to remain independent and work on their own Droid and X lines. The only influence Lenovo is going to have on Moto is international relations and production capacity. Expect what we've seen from Moto for the past 8 months to continue.
Lenovo can do whatever it wants, so long as they let Motorola operate on their own and simply invest in their potential. The Moto X is proof that good ideas still exist. Moto X with Utter! Tasker and the Xposed Modules is what the Moto X should've been and if Lenovo can tap into this potential: they'll have a real game-changer.
I've seen that on techradar, I found out Kutcher used to be an engineer before he modeled and I my mind was blown! funny things you find out on the web

Ok, seen enough.
Folks, OT Posts should go in the XDA Off Topic Forums. Sorry, but this thread serves absolutely no purpose but to invite trolling, which it seems it already has.

[PETITION] Calling all Moto owners

Please sign our petition requesting Moto to provide the Android N update to the Moto G 2015 and Moto G Turbo. https://www.change.org/p/motorola-please-include-moto-g-3rd-gen-for-android-nougat-update
You may be wondering why I am asking other Moto owners to support the G3 and Turbo by signing our petition... We are asking Moto to simply do what they said when they released the device, by providing fast updates for 18 months and not drop support for this clearly capable device. This could easily effect all of you in the future just like Moto is trying to do to these devices if we don't call Lenovo/Moto on their clear violation of what they stated previously as if they get away with this, what is to stop them from providing updates for any other device in a far shorter time span than promised.
Part of the beauty of Moto devices was the promise of a near stock Android experience with fast updates for an 18 month period, this is one of the reasons many of us purchased these devices over other choices that were available, we should hold Moto to what they sold us on and letting them get away with not doing that now will likely mean other devices will be dropped before their time in the future.
As of this posting, we have over 680 supporters and could still use everyone's support.
I thank you in advance for your assistance. Feel free to share this link in any appropriate group or community you chose.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has signed the petition... We have exceeded the 1000 signature milestone and received confirmation this be a featured story on at least major Android news outlet in the coming days.
I am still requesting everyone to actively sign the petition.
Again, thank you.

Telegram is slowly killing this forum?

The name of this thread should be:
"Telegram is slowly becoming a better place than xda for free speech regarding Android development, UB and rooting"
I'm just curious, why is it so important to be on Telegram instead of here on XDA? I know Telegram is a well working system for quick, smooth and "all in one" chat/communication, but honestly, it's killing this forum. If you have a question and you put it here on this forum, your lucky if someone even answer (properly and in detail), while on Telegram it's already been discussed, tested and answered, long ago?! And the discussion on Telegram seams to be active almost 24/7 (like XDA back in the days), while this forum is stagnating more and more?
Are we meant to focus on Telegram instead of XDA from now on when it comes to brain storming regarding development and more complicated stuff?
XDA was the place for devs and tinkerers. But too many rules started to make it impossible to enjoy a place that once was as open as a hooker at a trucker stop. Just like anything else, it always comes to a stale point and time to move on. When you start off as a great forum and then start to police everything, especially devs and one's freedom of speech, you're no longer going to be the go to place. Telegram is where it's at.
Thanks!

The "lg v40" group has around 240 members and is active pretty much all the time...
looks like all bootloader unlock and root threads were closed here.
I can't be the only one that can't find it .. I type in LG v40 and nothing that big pops up.

I've tried to find a way to share a link to the group, but it doesn't work for some reason?
Anyways, Rose (@MissRose_bot) is the admin of the group LG V40. Maybe you guys can find her, and then, go from there

Well what we are trying to do is use Telegram for testing purposes and then put the final guide on XDA....cause this is where we go for the guides and such....but the rules have already removed our bootloader unlock threads....
A shame really. I don't think that telegram is a decent replacement. Too much chatter and noise. But agree with the sentiments around too many rules around here and combine that with the small number of phones that are bootloader unlockable and together they are doing a good job of killing off interest. Especially when someone kills any start to conversations around unlocking the bootloader.
I used to come here 2 to 3 times a day. Now....i think my last resort will be going to pixel. Too bad google doesn't know how to make a flagship.
And Htc

Good old days, back in 2010, had my first touch screen smartphone, HTC Desire (Bravo)... I loved it, and how easy it was to unlock the bootloader on their website! And rooting was natural. Xda was really a great place and everybody lived happily ever after, hehe
To bad HTC doesn't make any flagship anymore ;(

I actually find it similar to what the OP thinks. The forums are dying a slow death on some devices (some are still having threads created like breeding rabbits - lol)
The problem is twofold. On one hand you have the "instant-ness" of live messaging. Ask a q and get answers almost right away instead of waiting for days or months for someone to reply and get an answer if you're lucky. In the connected age now, everyone wants everything instantly. Waiting is for old school.
Then you have the forum itself which increasingly becoming less user friendly as you guys said. Enforcement is good but if you go overboard, people are gonna leave and they ain't comin back. It's fine to move with the times but sometimes it's not always gonna be good. I mean, look at the marketplace. It's effectively dead space since it'll throw you out to swappa. There should really be a place where people who offer paid services like unlocking or repairs to post their stuff in there like there used to be and posts in other forums for such services could be moved there when needed. Not just shutting them down. One might argue that it's illegal and all that but you could just then outline how the posts should be phrased to avoid such issues.
I dunno. I love this place and wish folks would come back.. but having the vibe of a state-pen visit when you log in ain't fun either.
sidenote : I see more and more mods having custom sigs and banners announcing their "Status". Is that a thing right now? The profile box description ain't enough anymore?
"self promotion is not allowed"???
I'm not promoting myself! I don't even have anything to promote!?
Weired!
My wishful thinking and nostalgia is definitely the reason for my disappointment here on XDA.
Do you guys remember:
"Two years ago, Chinese company CCMT bought SuperSU from Chainfire, a move which did produce a lot of chatter, and in some cases negative emotions, in the Android enthusiast community."
I believe this was a clear sign of what was going on in the Android world/community.
And don't forget the slow death of Android/Linux as open source. I am of the opinion that Google has always abused the rules, making open source a commercial "control" tool for their own benefits.
And then we have all those governments need for control. No one can deny that smartphones have become the most effective tracking tool there is. No need for implant rfid chips as long as we use our smartphones like we do.
And also the desperate race to get our personal information, opinions and interests/habits for both political and commercial reasons.
All this and the fact that today, more and more people own a flagship, so no big reason for rooting, except for privacy...
I'm starting to wonder who's really in control on xda those days, and who's reading/checking what we're up to in here?
Time for me to wake up and "climb a higher mountain"
OnePlus is in control of XDA now. lol

I can't speak for xda, but just like supersu and a lot of great apps like esfile explorer....most of the online forums are being bought by large or shady corporations and run my legal and compliance teams. These corporations aren't interested in the community. They are interested only converting the apps to spyware, advertisement, and what data they can collect and monetize.
It's interesting that if I go to some well known devs and mods profiles here on xda, they have links to Telegram, but I'm not allowed to share a Telegram (LG V40) development link??
Xda moderators, you're confusing us!
Please inform us what purpose this website/forum has those days?
I know for sure that originally, this was the place to be if you wanted to unlock Bootloader and root!
Sad....

They would allow the threads if and only if the info was public...which Vlad already shared but you need to have an Octopus box thing which costs $500 US, Vlad is helping and only asking for money if it takes along time but he's doing the communication from Telegram...so that kinda makes them salty...but I will never understand why they allowed the HTC people to Monetize S-Off...and post it all over XDA....

Hi guys

I'm and will ever be 54V174R on any place, that's why someone would recognize that nickname. But well, i already have been here as a ghost for 9 years, but I just had the amazing idea of creating my own account .
First a of all, I'm Mexican, and i have a pretty fair English, cuz my studies, but mostly I've improved cuz Reddit.
Now about my experience here. As a kiddo, i first had my first smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Young. It costed damn 2000 mxn by that time man, it's hilarious how now I can buy a 2nd hand moto G4 buy that prize in my country.
But this little phone, introduced me to this whole world, it has a special place in my heart.
It was being the first time I knew about XDA developers, the most complete forum about smartphones I ever saw. And since then, I've been searching here all kind of things. And i've learned a lot of stuff, like what's a recovery, ROM, kernel, stock rom, rooting... By that time I remember that there were init.d scripts, the infamous clockworkmod recovery, superSU, CyanogenMod, Ext4 partitioning, that "freedom" paid emulation app, sdcard as second partition with link2sd, and much more freedom for root things... Hell, i even emulated windows XP on the phone lmao. And of course I bricked it many times but I learned a lot from my mistakes...These were good memories.
After that galaxy, I had the iconic Moto G 1st gen, a whole improvement of the galaxy, and "bigger". That's when I learned about the fastboot, the old Xposed mods, sound mods like viper, gravitybox, MultiROM, and that the rooting monopoly of superSU was ending, and Magizk's starting. That was also the time I got to be audiophile, cuz I tried the sound mods...
Then, my next phone was the Moto E 2nd gen, all cuz I lost my moto G in the fkn park... Dumb af ik. That's when Magizk was taking over the throne of rooting, the Xposed dev said goodbye, and also the rooting just became harder with the bootloader and warranty thing...
But then, my uncle gifted me my first high-end smartphone, the Xperia Z5. It's camera amazed me, and idk but I expected the phone to be smooth enought, but that's when I remembered that the phone had the infamous Snapdragon 810, with temperature and battery issues. So I did a lot of things to this phone as well. And i had to live with it until the past year, when with my own saves of schoolarship, I bought the phone with the features I wanted, finally, which I still currently have, the Xiaomi Redmi 9S. And now here I am, lurking in that phones forum, finally with the idea of creating my own account in my head. Now I plan to be a casual user, able to help others with my knowledge at least. Hopefully it's a good journey.
Thx for reading

Hello. New to the forum.

Hello,
I am new to the forum.
I (not so recently) purchased a ProX-1 phone with Lineage OS on the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform and look forward to (finally) receiving it. (Crowdfunding is not for the faint of heart). I've never used Lineage OS before and I'm really not that technically savvy. Savvy?

Anyway, I saw that FIDO standard passwordless sign-in was coming from Apple, Microsoft and Google later this year.

And I posted a thread in the General forum asking a few questions related to passwordless sign-in and Lineage OS. Hopefully, I put that thread in the right place and did not duplicate an existing thread. Moderators will fix it, I assume, if I did.
I've never been much of a forum person, but that could change since soon (I hope!) I will receive a phone with Lineage OS and I know nothing about Lineage OS.
