Hot question

Hi all. I plan to buy a Huawei P10 to replace my nexus 5x. I read on several Highteck sites that he had a slight tendency to heat up during prolonged use or with big games. Some users also report that the photos are not always very clear.
Can you relate here your feelings on these 2 points and can be talk about other negative things you would have found by using it every day. Thank you for your participation.

Never had any problems with the photos other than the panoramic setting isn't great! As reguards to the heat thing I've never had it heat more than any other phone I have had!

I am using P10 and previously I had Nexus 5x for 7 months. After the switch, the P10 is a much better phone overall. Battery feels better, camera - is a so-so, but people tell that after B130 or B151 updates it becomes so much better. The big problem with camera currently is the weird sharpness effect with cropped photos - and that one should be fixed in the new updates.
About the heating - it heats up, but less then the 5x. While Nexus was constantly around 55-60 degrees Celcius for me, the P10 is usually around 40, and could reach 55 during heavy usage, but most of the time it's just warm. Battery life should also improve with the new update.
The phone feels like 10 times faster in basic app opening, switching between apps and normal daily usage. It just feels much more responsive in any action. So yea, overall P10 is way better than the nexus, from my point of view.

The Nokia 8 is a pretty decent all rounder phone. Probably the only downside to the P10 is the camera quality. Decent sensor but post processing and camera software was lacking. The auto focus isn't that reliable and low light performance will suffer. And the camera software lacked Pro mode which the P10 should have currently. And the camera app was buggy from time yo time. But HMD is going to update the camera framework and bringing Pro mode to the 8. So probably you may see some improvements by then.
Don't get me wrong. The camera is good for what it is. I got really decent shots in bright lighting conditions. Only the camera software isn't really that reliable.
I did compare my phone side by side with a Huawei P9(Bright light conditions). Apart from the post processing issues on the Nokia 8, I found the camera looked abit better compared to the P9(Not sure about the P10 though).
I'm speaking this from my own experience owning the phone for a few months. I take a lot of photos with my phone, so the camera was one important aspect to me along with battery life and performance. Battery life is what you'll usually get for something around 3000mAH. I got around 4-6 hour screen on time from a full charge. But the phone can last you the whole day. Snapdragon 835 too. So performance overall was good.
If you want something with better battery life for the similar amount of price, go for the Huawei Mate 10 instead since that has a 4000mAH battery.
Software updates so far has been consistent. Got security updates every month and its confirmed to get Android P. Hopefully they'll keep it that way until the phone reaches the end of its life.
Overall, I'm quite happy with my phone. So definitely worth checking it out. Especially if you prefer something with near stock Android too.

Thanks for replying I'm on a contract and sadly the isp doesnt have the huawei mate 10 cause I looked at that aswell but the camera im not to worry about as long as I can take photos its fine.

Huawei p10 supports bootloader unlock, so you can root the Huawei.
Nokia does not.

Mi9 VS MI9 T

Hi to all
I would like to buy phone for my wife. She likes good camera and selfie camera. Can someone tell me is there any different in camera between mi9 and mi9 t?
And what is the real difference between these phones?
P. S. The price is the same in my country.
And will mechanism in Mi9T be good for next 3 years or it will die very quickly?

Slower processor, worse cameras and more moving parts. The reason I went for the Mi9 is because the teardrop notch is not bothering me and it's a better device when it comes to hardware hands down. You don't gain enough screen compared to the trade-off you make hardware-wise.

I also wanted to add that the battery of the Mi9 lasts one day fairly easy, makes it to two days if I don't use my phone to much. If battery life is an issue, that might motivate you to move towards the Mi 9t, I don't know how much more battery life the 4000mAh battery will give you in real life tbh.

Question Thinking about getting the ZenFone 8, is it worth it?

I am thinking about switching phones from my OnePlus 9. I like my OP9, but it is very glitchy for what it is supposed to be and really the only thing that impresses me is the WarpCharge feature. I am very fond of smaller phones, such as the ZenFone 8. I haven't purchased an ASUS device at all before, not even a computer.
Who has it and do you think it is worth even considering? My daily use consists of social media, internet browsing, and watching videos. It is very rarely that I download a game and play it on mobile. I also prefer somewhat swift updates, but have been an avid Motorola user before and was perfectly fine with their update timings.

I'm also in the same boat however 'm using Nord now..not very much satisfied with it..Oneplus really lost its glory now a days . Also 'm looking for compact phones..ZF8 seems to be perfect..would like to hear from real users..

I'm on the same boat except I'm using Xiaomi Mi 9T. Zenfone 8 looks like a perfect phone but I heard the thermals are bad and it gets hot af, like really hot.

I have it and the only down side is standby drain. Even after a few system updates my drain is about 50-100% higher than my op6. It's gotten better since the first version, but still not great.
I love it's form factor, GUI fluidity, Asus apps are great.
I haven't played any games so I can't really say anything about thermals.. never felt any temperature build-up.

Does it last at least around 6-8 hours?

The screen isn't the best and the battery drains a bit too quick, but I'd say it's worth it. I like the stock ROM. The power button can be customised to perform two different actions, Game Genie shows CPU, GPU, battery, temperature and FPS, Optiflex speeds up apps and reduces battery usage. Also, didn't expect to find system performance modes, dt2w, dt2s or gestures, which, if drawn while the screen is off, launch apps.

This opinion is very subjective and quite off.
The screen isn't the best? Maybe there are literally few phones with better screens but it's definitely among the very top. No idea what is wrong with it.
Battery drain? I get easily 6h SOT and whole day use. No issues at all. 8h during night eats me like 5-8 percent. The good is that all my smartwatches and earbuds are very stable and I get no disconnections like on Huawei flagship phones.
I can confirm that coming video in bright sun in 30 Celsius gets the phone hot, very hot. I think that's normal. And it's waterproof so I've just taken it underwater for 5s and it was back to normal.
If you can live with the cut out camera - this phone is brilliant.
I was using LG V30 and Huawei Mate 20 before this and I see no downsides. Everything is better than on those two. I like them all.

When I said "not the best" I had two things in mind. First the backlight issue at 60 and 120 Hz. As for the second one, few days ago my Zf8 was on a desk together with my previous phone (Xperia 5 II). I think I had some web pages open on both at the time because the screens were mostly white. When I looked at them while standing and almost at a flat angle, I immediately noticed that the Xperia's screen was white as a sheet of paper, Zenfone's wasn't. I assumed the Xperia's screen can be viewed without distortion at wider angles.
I played one game which is locked at 30 FPS, CPU and GPU usage was 10-30%, temp stayed at 36-37C. Will try something more demanding and see if it can go over 40C during the weekend.
Edit: idle drain 0.5%/h, but Franco Kernel Manager shows 0.28% for some reason

Right now i have a OnePlus 9 Pro and as i really like it I'm kind of done with big smartphones.
As i had the Pixel 5 before i was thinking about going back and then the ZenFone 8 came to my attention.
It's damn ugly but that's something that can be changed with a case or skin.
I'm in doubt about the camera's compared to the Pixel 5 but the reviews I've seen so far seems quite good, not the best but good and comparable to the OnePlus 9.
I also read that Asus's update policy is not very reliable.
Anyone can give their opinion about this parts?
Everything else about this phone seems really good!

After using the zenfone 8 and Pixel 5 I went for the Pixel 5 because of the insanely better battery life than on the zenfone 8

It is true that other phones may have better battery, the Mate 20 I have is much better but at the cost of unreliable smart devices connection.
I can't get 2 days of my normal usage out of any phone. If I go hiking and just have the phone with me the Zenfone will also last 2-3 days easily. For me 1 day is the requirement and Zenfone does it easily.
The cameras are really good and with gcam and the right settings in there it gives great, real to life pictures. The super wide camera has the same sensor as Pixel 5. The main and selfie are even better and newer.
And the main thing - here in Poland the Pixel is 290USD more expensive than Asus. At the same price I'd probably buy the Pixel as it is a more established brand and has better support.
People write here that ZF8 can be bad at getting updates but the initial month had 4 updates. Can't see anything wrong here.
If the ZF9 will be the same size and gets the flip camera I will 100% buy it.

Pixel has a different sensor for the ultra wide. For the others i can't comment on that but it seems they are at least very close to each when it comes to picture quality.
It's so strange that the price difference in the world is so big. Here in the Netherlands the zenfone 8 is more expensive compared to the Pixel 5.

I can't say much on the phone as I've not used one yet, but from my own research and a friend whose ordered one, I can give me opinion. The specs are great, I think it exceeds in every category, but the camera. I don't the camera is as good as it could be, and maybe even the screen. The 120hz is real nice though. It's all personal preference really. I'm a Samsung guy but have been trying other phones because, well, why not. I'm by far not an expert, but I most certainly will share my opinion with you. My friend did mention that his tends to get hot, really hot. Keep that in mind.

The wide camera sensor in ZF8 is the same as main in Pixel. At least I read that.

Anything that runs the CPU/GPU high. You have to enable performance mode (or custom mode for max performance/temp limit) to let it get hot though. Case mitigates its feel to an extent.
And it can get burning hot, try it on any 3d game.

That really riddles me. So there are non gaming phones that do not get hot in similar settings? Especially during summer?

Question Xiaomi MI 11 Ultra Battery & Overall experience

I'm currently a Rog Phone 5 user who is looking to get a new secondary device. There's so many options out there but I'm stuck between the Mi 11 Ultra, Honor Magic 3 Pro Plus & Huawei P50 Pro.
Main thing for me is battery life & speaker quality. I've seen YouTube battery tests with the mi11 ultra & they look below average or average at best. But these videos on YouTube are few months old & obviously the mi11 ultra has had software updates which I hope have increased battery performance. I know the battery life isn't as good as my Rog Phone 5, but, how good is the actually battery with the latest update(s)? I'm not a gamer. But I do use camera, YouTube, web browsing & maps frequently. Also, I heard the speakers are great, how good are they compared to the Rog phone 5?
The Huawei p50 Pro only has 1 review because it's based in China only ATM (I can import it though). But, that review says that it heats up alot and the video recording is underwhelming. I'm not going to go by DXO mark as they have strange rankings My only other option is the Honor Magic 3 Pro Plus but the price tag on that (£1150) just isn't justified as I can pick up the mi 11 Ultra for £650 brand new (256gb/8gb) Model. Furthermore, there's no reviews of the Magic 3 Pro Plus at all whatsoever.
If someone could tell me about the mi11 ultra battery life in the following scenarios that would be highly appreciated & please bear in mind that my area doesn't have 5g so all scenarios below are with 4g & 3g connectivity:
120hz+WQHD ?
120hz+FHD+?
60hz+WQHD?
60hz+FHD+?
Also, is there a 90hz option for the mi 11 Ultra?
Does the mi 11 Ultra get warm/hot with light usage? By light usage I mean by just using YouTube or browsing the web. My Rog 5 reaches 30 degrees by just using YouTube or web browsing but I've been told this is normal.

The only thing better than the rog phone 5 is probably the camera + screen

120hz+wqhd+4g can last about 6h on screen, with medium gaming time
Camera is very good (of course rog5 cant have a Chance)
Light use the phone with warm up a bit
Cons: problem with too large sensor of camera, img easily got blur at edge

You will get 6.5 hours to 7 hours SOT if you use the entire battery from 100% to 1% this is on 120Hz+WQHD
But this also depends upon when do you use the device. For example if you charge it and straight away use it for an extended period of time, you will obviously get a better SOT. If you charge it and keep it overnight standby, and then use it intermittently with brief periods of dozes obviously you will get less SOT. That said you will get atleast a day of usage and then some, if you don't game a lot. Camera drains the battery like crazy. So that's another variable.
Heat-I don't know what expectations you have from your phone but the normal operating temperature for this phone and Snapdragon 888 chips in general is 32-40 degree Celsius in normal usage. It fluctuates. Heat dissipation is excellent and hence you feel the surface and chassis getting hot. On charging the temperatures reach 40-42 degrees in later stages. Haven't gamed on this phone, but on camera usage, the temperature easily reaches 47-48 degree Celsius within 10-15 min of usage. Beyond 47 degrees it warns you the exposure won't work unless you cool down the phone, you can still use the camera but do so at your own risk. At this point if you are using this phone without a cover or case, it will become unbearable to hold specially the metal frame and also top back of the phone where the camera module is. All this ofcourse varies with ambient temperatures and I have provided an account with ambient temperature of 35-38 degree Celsius.
It has excellent speakers bested only by your own device the ROG phone 5. So for anyone else it would be an upgrade but for you it might feel like a downgrade if you compare side by side. There is no proper vent for top speaker, it is actually a dual eapiece speaker set. The grill on the top is just for aesthetics.
Cameras are the reason we all are with this device and they are exceptional. The most versatile camera system this year. Coming from ROG phone 5 it would seem like a massive massive upgrade.
Software is the Achilles Heal of this device. MIUI is a great ROM but notorious for its bugs. The updates are few and far in between. Do I regret buying this phone - No because it was an excellent bang for the buck. I chose this over OnePlus 9 Pro, Samsung S21+, Vivo x60pro+ and iPhone 12. It was cheapest of them all with better feature set. The only lacking feature in Mi 11 Ultra was lack of variable refresh rate/LTPO display so the display is locked between 120Hz and 60Hz. This adds to heating, and worsens the battery life. If it had LTPO display like others I don't think this phone would be having any deficiency compared to others and the battery life would truly feel like the one we should get with a 5k mAh battery.
Does that mean I am very satisfied with my purchase? No. My two biggest qualms are the Heat and the software support or lack thereof. Indian MIUI is a bit buggy but nothing major. Bugs like Dark Mode-q patching white text black on black background in a couple of apps, calender unable to calculate date interval. Minor stuff. But there has been no update to fix or limit the heating issues and it seems the only update we will get this year is the MIUI Enhanced Edition update that will have different performance mode using which we can limit some heat. This and maybe MIUI 13 by the end of the year.
I can't comment on the other two devices as they are not available here, but having used Flagships before (OnePlus) my no 1 requirement was Camera. But also the package as a whole. If another phone had better feature set and cameras in the price range I was looking for would have certainly opted for it. Like Vivo had excellent cameras but no IP rating, inferior display protections, smaller battery for exact same price here. So although the cameras were excellent I didn't opt for it mainly because of these issues as well as lack of commitment from Vivo to provide 3 years or even 2 years of updates. Also community support has been excellent for Xiaomi Phones and very poor for Vivo, you can check here on XDA.

Beyond 47 degrees it warns you the exposure won't work unless you cool down the phone, you can still use the camera but do so at your own risk. At this point if you are using this phone without a cover or case, it will become unbearable to hold specially the metal frame and also top back of the phone where the camera module is. All this ofcourse varies with ambient temperatures and I have provided an account with ambient temperature of 35-38 degree Celsius.
It has excellent speakers bested only by your own device the ROG phone 5. So for anyone else it would be an upgrade but for you it might feel like a downgrade if you compare side by side. There is no proper vent for top speaker, it is actually a dual eapiece speaker set. The grill on the top is just for aesthetics.
Cameras are the reason we all are with this device and they are exceptional. The most versatile camera system this year. Coming from ROG phone 5 it would seem like a massive massive upgrade.

Thank you very much for this thorough and detailed response you've basically made my mind up for me and I won't be purchasing it. Heat is concerning as it seems that it heats up more than the Rog 5. I highly appreciate your response, many many thanks

U r wrong with "the display is locked between 120Hz and 60Hz". It will be variable depend on what app u r using. So people have some trick to make the display stick with 120Hz all the time

I thought the display is variable from 30hz 60hz to 120hz on what content is on the screen

Couldn't say it any better. That's my thoughts exactly. One more thing i noticed is the signal reception. If the reception is average or below don't expect to make the day. I worked on a place with below average 4g and 3g signal, without changing my habits of usage the battery was 25-30% around 15:00 in the afternoon. It was so bad that i ordered a battery case to double it's battery life so i can get home without running out of battery. On my new site i'm getting home with 65-70% at about 19:00 in the evening with the very same usage as everyday. So the phone is very signal dependant. More than any other device i've had. But if you're on wifi or usually in areas with proper reception you shouldn't have any problems.

Definitely not a battery life champion phone

I always make the same use of my phones, and the M11U has better battery life than my previous Oneplus 7T Pro and Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

battery last about half (if not less) than my p30 pro did

Battery is **** considering this is a flagship phone. Luckily I didn't pay flagship price, as I imported it. But if I did, I'd be really pissed.
Camera is the best I've ever seen and used
Yes, it does get warm/hot while using and while charging. You also get battery drain when that happens.
Speakers are outstandingly loud and clear
I'm using xiaomi.eu ROMs, so I'm happy with the updates
If I had the choice, I'd keep my mi 11 ultra

The mi 11 Ultra is a fantastic phone. But in my opinion the best Android phone you can buy right now is the Pixel 6 Pro.
The smart fe game changer. I'm pretty blown away.

Honestly looking around I can't see better device than this Mi11 Ultra for 2021

I haven't seen a significantly better phone yet in every area
There's the odd phone that does 1 thing better but nearly everything else is sub par
If I saw a better phone id buy it but there's literally nothing on the market yet
