Hello,
I own a P20 Pro Dual Sim and I noticed that when I switch data from a SIM to the other one, both SIMs go offline for a few seconds before completing the procedure (screenshot attached).
It's a very annoying thing, because I often use the phone in difficult areas where I need a fast commutation. Is it working as intended?
I'm asking since I also have a Oneplus 6 where data switch is instantaneous with no network drop at all, so I wonder if there's something wrong with my device.
Thank you!

Yep, I was surprised myself when I saw it but probably it changes radios when switching between sims.
Another thing that I have noticed is that although I have data by default in second Sim, when I am in a call the data instantly switches to first sim.

Yes, if you call using SIM1, then SIM2 goes temporarily offline (so no data too) and to avoid being off the internet it switches data to SIM1 that it's the only one available at that moment.
At least.. This is how I understood.
Never mind, wrong forum

Hello! This is my first post on XDA-dev and I'm trying to get some help from anybody who had this issue with his Note 5. The model is SM-N 9200i, the phone is registered on Orange network in Romania. After a few months of using the phone with no problem at all, it began to behave really weird...at first just now and then but it became a permanent issue in the next 2 months. So here it is: when I have the mobile data on, I can't make or receive calls..if somebody tries to call me, it goes straight to the voice mail. Also, even though the mobile data is on, I have no internet acces at all..the icon shows H or H+ (completely lost 3g or 4g) but can't acces the internet. The wi-fi works great, and if I turn off the mobile data, I can make and receive calls with no problem. Currently I'm on Android 7 but this issue had started since I had Android 5.1. I've surfed the internet looking for a solution, but couldn't find one, not even on XDA forum. It's really annoying having to wear my wi-fi mobile router in the pocket so If you have any ideas, please let me know. Sorry for this long post! Regards, F.

Do you know that your APN settings are correct? Have you tried your sim card in another phone?
Yes sir, the APN settings are ok. Also, I've used the sim card on two different phones and I had none of the problems I've mentioned. Perfect internet acces (4g present, although it dropped to 3g when I made a call, which from my understanding it's perfectly normal) and incoming & outgoing calls worked fine while mobile data was on...thanks in advance for any thoughts!

It could be your modem but it sounds like you are connecting to a band that for whatever reason doesn't work right on your phone. I have the same phone on AT&T but WiFi calling and VoLTE does not work because it's not an AT&T branded phone. Good luck, sorry I cannot be more help.
@fir3fight3r
Just another thought. Open your dialer, type *#0011# and compare what you see to my screenshot. There will be differences but it could get you going in the right direction.

That is the same screen it is just showing different information.
Below is a screenshot for when I am on 3G.
I would urge you to Google your provider's APN and create a new one with that information.

Second sim is not available, when you are using the first one (when answering/making a call).
...and if I am surfing on socials like Facebook in SIM #1 does it work receiving call on SIM #2 or is it stopped?
EDIT: solved
Similar to the Huawei Mate 10 series, the P20 and P20 Pro can support dual-SIMs with dual 4G and dual VoLTE running at the same time. This provides the best dual-SIM experience as both lines are connected to the best network possible. It also supports download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps with 4X4 MIMO over a 4.5G LTE network.

This all depends on whether you have the dual sim version of the P20 Pro. Most UK versions are single SIM only. Allegedly, these can be converted to dual sim using a guide available on this forum or using the funky huawei paid service. I am still looking for full verification that this workaround is fully functional or not. Goes without saying that, you will also need to buy a dual sim tray for these UK versions of the P20 Pro.

Oh, I'm in Sweden, and my dual SIM works like a charm. Have my work sim and private sim running simultaneously without any issues at all. I opted in the settings to run the surf on sim 2 since I have more data on that one even.
I do wish I could set one number at "do not disturb" at a time. Or change the ringer to vibrate or silent for just one of the phone number.

@OP
What this guy said is 100%
The only way to obtain dual SIM from a single SIM variant is to essentially lose bootloader unlocking ability by using the funky Huawei method.
It's up to you to decide which you think is more important.

You dont. Try to make a call from sim2 when sim1 is engaged in a call. Or be on a call on sim1 and and get a notice when someone calls you on sim2 and change to that call. You cant do that and that is the difference of dualsim standby and active. The last Huawei device to have dualsim active was the Honor 8. After that they have stopped supporting it, cheaper with standby than active

Yeah that works. If I'm in a call I can add a call using the second line without the first call dropping out. The first call can't hear me tho, unless I switch back. But, both are connected, just the the speaker and mic can only be connected to one at a time. I figure that's a software limitation tho.

Strange that your phone can make it but not mine. And since the phone just supports dualsim standby and not active it should not work. Thats why there are an option to forward calls to the other sim when the the first one is engaged in a call as it is not possible to have both sims active at the same time as the phone just got one radio part.

I actually just tried after the last comment to make sure. And it works. It might be because both of the cards are on the network provider "3" and they do the calls over 3g and 4g since they don't have 2g access. And as my earlier screenshot shows, you can have both of the 4g's active at the same time.
But if you're right about that "one radio part" shouldn't that also be impossible? I'd think it's weird to build in two 3/4g antennas and just one 2g.
Sorry I have to revive this dead topic.
Is there an updated list of DSFA smartphones (dual sim active, two radio modules)?
I know DSFA can somehow be "emulated" using VoLTE /dual VoLTE or VoWifi if the device and carrier supports it.
We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the Xiaomi Mi Max 3's LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add.

If you like you can use Network Signal Guru and measure and take screenshots and post here to give some actual data if its good or bad.
Which bands are used when and how long and when a call cuts out.
And when its very good to give a comparison when the phone performs very well and when not so good.
However Network Signal Guru requires root permissions
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qtrun.QuickTest
Some alternative apps are
CellMapper
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper
Network Cell Info Lite
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wilysis.cellinfolite
SignalCheck Pro
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blueline.signalcheck
I don't have root yet however I do have the so called global firmware. Maybe that's the source if it is indeed a fake ROM.
So I just noticed something. When I make/receive a call I immediately drop LTE. Once the call ends it's restored. I have to assume the phone is not capable of voice over LTE or I need to find a toggle.

anyone having issues with simply making calls, sending sms and accessing the internet? anything in the *#*#64663*#* phone service mode - phone seems to want to always sit in TD-SCDMA/LTE mode instead of LTE/UMTS mode. Always reverts to it. Not sure if that is the issue. HORRIBLE experience with this device so far. Right off the bat when I got it, it was doing sms sending (forever in sending mode until failed or sms would come in after like 15-20 mins and only after a reboot) Incoming sms no issues. Message center is ok. Then data was an issue. Switching SIM seemed to fix one first call then the 2nd call would just sit in dialing mode forever and ultimately hang up. Garbage device (so far) unless it is some simple fix. This is on ATT.
EDIT finally managed to fix the issues
fastboot mode
erase cacne this went through
erase data did not work
then did factory reset through the recovery mode
booted it up
inserted sim...everything works now (for the first time)
bootloader was unlocked by the vendor/someone upstream prior to shipping
very fast...even on 4g
lte comes on selectively so far only seen band 5 (no band 4)
EDIT2
So while mui is pretty slick and the phone is easy to use, fast, great on battery it still suffers from a Xiaomi-related bug (will call it that) in call-forwarding. You cannot set call forwarding (of if previously set - when the sim is in another device, of course), the call forwarding cannot be disabled (SIM error) This has been an issue for years - yes like since 2014-15...since the user base is mostly overseas, you can see complaints but no real resolution (useless feedback from thread owners etc who talk about contacting the operator, removing sim card etc) This does not exist on Huawei, Oppo etc phones (having used them) Even some miui ports suffer from this on other devices (so it seems very likely an MIUI issue) I have an old Samsung Mega that has the same issue on a ported MIUI for it. The Mi Mix I had a few months back had the same issue. No one ever fixes this.

Everything is fine except Calls. I've been told my phone rings once then goes to voicemail and occasionally I will connect to another party but we can't hear each other. Phone calls work less than 2 out of 5 times. Text is flawless, data works great with the exception of slow handover when switching from wifi to LTE.

Are you getting Band 4 LTE on Tmobile? Also, how about 3G/HSPA? I believe it supports Band 2 for those, right?
Band 4 LTE is rock solid everywhere however I cannot connect to 3G anywhere. That's why I had issues with calls before I activated VoLTE. I'm not sure if it's the phones band capability or something else but even forcing 3G nets me 2G edge. Thankfully I don't need it.
Hi guys. So its been a week using my tencent rog flashed to WW firmware and fingerprint. Im on 1910.44
I noticed while in the middle of the game i got frequent disconnection issue while on wifi. Immediately i scroll down notif to check wifi or network aim signal and all are off, the wierd thing is after 5sec im back online again. So it keeps happening over and over again.

Having this bug too, i sent my log for asus, hope have a fix or android 10 fix this
i got same phone problem is... my signal not losing but cant call or receive any call
I saw in zentalk forum. Sad to say ????
So One thing I discovered on this new phone of mine is that although working perfectly there is a major flaw in the way Internet data works during a phone call.
Any time you make a call, the phone downgrades the active signal from 5G/4G to H or E ( GSM).
Which in turns cuts off the data.
If I force 5G or 4G, then the phone call cannot be made. It just disconnects.
I have tried all settings, Volte enable/disable with no joy.
Some have said it's a carrier limitation, but it's not, cause in my iPhone, the very same simcard works just fine and the Internet is usable during a call.
Also tried with dual Simcard setup. As in the settings, the phone allows to use one simcard for data and one for call. Still not working.
Can someone please tell me if there is a solution please, or can you try your phone while on the call to see if Internet works as this feature is detrimental to me keeping the phone. If this doesn't work I will be selling the phone and getting a realme replacement.. Xiaomis sometimes suck with their non existent support.
Thanks

I can't see an operator fault if they have Volte services enabled and this simcard works flawlessly on other android systems.
As a matter of fact, any SimCard i have tried, so far 3 providers and the phone does the same thing. As soonest the call is made it downgrades the signal to H while full 5G or 4G is available??

the operator must provide the necessary information for each brand and phone to activate Volte and Wowifi.
On my 11t pro everything works with SFR and nothing with FREE because Free has not yet transmitted the information necessary to activate the services.
So went to see the operator. They sell Xiaomi phones. 3 network ( Three EU)
The phones in the stores are working just fine, no issues at all. And my phone simply just isnt.I have tried every possible setting and still not working.
See the screenshot below. As I'm typing this I'm on a super fast full signal 5G connection. As soon as I make a phone call, the phone will downgrade to E or H+ which is horrible. This network signal switching is also laggy, and If 2g signal is poor I cannot even make a call.

Does the "Use VoLTE" switch appear in the SIM card settings?
If not you can try the Dialer Code *#*#869434#*#*. That only will make this switch appear, but sometimes this is enough. It should also show the little VoLTE-Badge next to the signal strength (see screenshot).

I just had another look and on your 1st post it says the SIM is named "3 IRL", as far as I know Three Ireland does not offer VoLTE at all.
So it will always drop to 3G/H+ or 2G/E ... on every phone.

5G connection should support this naturally. If I put this simcard Into an iPhone or Galaxy the 5G connection stays on regardless.
Anyway even with Vodafone this doesn't work,so I'm thinking it either a phone limitation or a phone is fooked

No, for VoNR your phone still needs the same configs as with VoLTE. Though only a few operators support VoNR as of now.
