adhell 3 and theme killer help - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I run N 7.1.1 and use Tasker & BK disabler for force stop theme services.
Adhell can't run with BK disabler so the qustion is does adhell will break the Tasker & BK disabler method?
I thought to uninstall BK and install Adhell and stop theme service with it, without "touch" the Tasker & BK disabler method.
Sould it be enough for theme to stick?
someone could guide how to disable theme service with adhell and tasker or another method?
Hopping someone could help with it.
Thank you all.

Try SABS, (its like adhell).
You need to put those apps in the "white list" and everything should be fine.

I don't think it is matter if it adhell or sabs.
the question is if it will break the Tasker & BK disabler method?
So if some one knows another way to disable theme services without BK I will appreciate it.
Thanks

You should try SABS, I am running BK disabler along with it without any problems.
Besides SABS allows you to disable different services including theme services.
Cheers

I read that BK can't run with adhell and sabs becuse they are the same. You wrote you run sabs with BK. So it contradict what I read.

If I may post my opionion on this.
SABS or Adhell uses Knox to disable ads/services. BK disabler seems a bit overkill, meaning it's useless if you already have SABS or Adhell.
If I were you, I would stick to what I'm used to and works, Adhell in your case and just get rid of BK disabler. Even better, give SABS a try, I can help you get a version that works great on my Note 8 Oreo and also help you set it up. I am using it for the past 3 months, I have to renew my Samsung license in a few days, haven't had a problem with the app. I block services, packages, ads and some tracking websites and it just works.
Also, doesn't matter what you read, sometimes it's better if you just try and see for yourself what it works best.
For me, SABS is a good enough reason not to root my phone, and I have rooted all my Samsung phones so far.

You said you had the app, so you should know the steps to get the Samsung licence key and to edit the apk with Apk Editor Pro.
If you encounter any problems, I can help but I would do it over Telegram, send me a PM for info.
Also sorry for late reply, different time zones, I guess.

Try this (never used it myself, I've always rooted or, used Package Disabler Pro on Samsung devices) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294
I strongly suggest disabling instead of deleting the bloatware, in the event you need to restore to 100% stock to take future updates.

Adblock without root?

Hi everybody, i used to use adhell until the dev took it down, now disconnect pro is subscription based which is too expensive.
Is there any alternative that uses Knox to avoid the need for root?
Thanks!
Block this!
I use Samsung Internet with the adblock plus extension which works for blocking ads in browsers.
Adhell 2 is up and running on the Note 8, been using it over a week with no issues.

I tried it a few days ago and it rebooted and once back on kept crashing Touch Wiz. I had to uninstall it as it made the phone unusable. Currently using Blokada which has been working great.

thanks for the Blokaka mention. just installed it and it works perfectly. found an ad-ridden app to test it on an it was great.
my favs two ad-blocking apps (via VPN and non-root ) are DNS66 and Blokada
Another vote for Block-This. I used it on my S7E and am using it on my Note 8, both unrooted Verizon phones. Works awesome. But you do have to tolerate a notification icon for it. Small price to pay, IMO.
I used to use Disconnect Pro. Since it's yet to be compatible with Note 8, I've been using Adguard premium. It works like a charm. I love how it cleans the page.
Sent from my Samsung SM-N950U using XDA Labs
I use Adguard Premium whenever I get a new phone before root. Works pretty well but I've only used it for 2 days on my Note 8 & only 1 day on my Note 5.
Only thing is I hate that there's 2 permanent notifications that you can't get rid of when it's enabled.
Block This! has been pretty hit/miss with what gets through. I've added my Adaway lists to block this but it's not all that great. I'll have to try the other mentions.
I tried Adhell2 but it just constantly reboots my phone. Soft reboot too, I don't see the boot logo, just the "enter your pin to continue the boot" thing.
For web browsing I've just been using firefox with the ublock origin addon. I don't have any suggestions for apps (most of the ones I use are paid and don't have ads)
These apps are not in the play store right? Could you guys post links, so I don't inadvertently download a malicious apk? :highfive:
I got really excited about Blokada until it said it has to be set up in Android as a VPN service. I already have a VPN service, IPVanish, and Android won't run them both.
Hello
I've tried every VPN based adblocking apps like Blockada, Block This, DNS66, Adguard, etc.
The one I use now is DNS66 with custom DNS filtering than filtering with the hosts file.
To do this, Install DNS66 and open the app. Go to "Hosts" tab and disable filtering there. Now switch to DNS tab and deselect all the DNS there and add the Adguard DNS addresses. They are as follows:
176.103.130.130
176.103.130.131
Enable the newly added Adguard DNS and switch the Custom DNS filtering button on. Now go to the main Tab and click start.
I've found this method to have very minimal battery impact compared to the others. And also, there is no slowdown of the internet speed. :good:
Enjoy!
New Version v1.14 of "Disconnect Pro" is out which works with Note 8
But it costs $25.99
It's available via Galaxy App Store.

Yeah, that's annoying, but I find that it does wear down my battery (especially while on standby) far more than I'm comfortable with.

Any concerns in regards to the actual app having so much invasive control over your device?

Not really. But it has stopped blocking Ads on my device again. I'm using Blockada now. What I liked about Disconnect is that it's not VPN based, so I can use another VPN to get around the internet restrictions in Indonesia at the same time.

BK Package disabler? App list?

I would like to know what apps are safe to disablle on the Note 8.
Here's a link to my list I exported from BK
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74016202&postcount=176
FYI I tried this and I think you have the keyboard disabled? Good thing I caught it or else I would be SOL on next restart without being able to enter password

BLOATWARE sprint note 8

Has anyone put together a list of system apps that fall into the bloatware category and maybe even a list of non system apps that are bloat?
I have not rooted....YET.... but NOT because of the 80% battery, I have never had a phone I did not root within the first day I got it but I have read that many are saying they are finding other ways to do most of what they use to need root to do so I want to try this myself to see if I can possibly live without root.
Have any of you found the disabled bloat system apps still running or syncing in the background? if so have you found a way to kill them?
I dont have a windows pc anymore so trying to do this without the need of connecting to a pc to freeze apps.

awesome. thanks! I paid for the BK Disabler and also downloaded systemUI tuner and shortcut master for hotspot.
I did a couple adjustments in display settings and am now getting around 18 hours give or take on a battery with moderate usage.
I tried to use SystemUI tuner for the annoying volume message but I still get it and bixby keeps turning her volume to halfway and I have to keep turning her back up, but other than that im rocking a non rooted phone for the first time ever......
thanks for for the reply, BK disabler did the trick for the bloatware.

About BK Disabler new update

So from what I read the devs removed "service disabler" function. What it's mean? the new update make the app useless? There's a lot of piss off people.
But more important if the app is now useless to disable services, and of what I read on xda, people ask for service disabler apps, and bk was recommended, what can we use now?
Does the new update kill the "Theme Service Disabler with Tasker + bk" method?
Thanks
Service disable means you still can use the apps but some services like getting location or pushing notification will not be started, because you disabled.
But now, this option will be removed, not sure if they will release the apps to somewhere.

I assume this means you can't disable any new services. All that I disabled prior to the update are still disabled. If I had read the update I wouldn't have updated the app.
I only purchased this app last month because package Disabler pro stopped working.
I wonder if that's the reason my screen off discharge rate went from 0.5% per hour to a little over 1% per hour now?
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Regarding the wording, it is disabling packages, not services. In the app, I could not find services.
I think, all is well and drama not appropriate, but they should have worded it a lot more in detail.
You can disable any app you want, what you can not do now, is disabling individual services within the targeted app
After this same thing happened with Easy Disabler and Package disabler pro on the N7, I have disabled auto updating for BK since I installed it.

How do you disable updating for just this app? I disabled updates when the note 7 debacle, but all updates in general got disabled, btw, my note 7 works just fine, as day one

Just go to the BK play store page and uncheck auto-update. You need to disable the updates for both BK and the plugin.
My Note 7 was working great too but Verizon finally disabled my service which seems like some sort of violation to me. It didn't seem worth fighting them over it though.
Can one not download a previous version apk the version number before the current one, ?

Not sure if it's to do with BK or the January update. But my screen off discharge rate has doubled from 0.5% to 1 % per hour recently.

I'm so glad that I never enable auto update in the Play Store. I read every what's new note prior to updating. Since I haven't updated BK & Plug-in it still works fine just as before. I just can't click update all in the Play Store now since these 2 apps are always in queue to update.

SO I hope this isn't a noob question but I noticed it forces you to agree for the KLMS license in order to use. Is this an issue?
Whats the story with the KLMS Agent licence and relation to KNOX?
PS: I am trying to disable services so OTA updates don't happen while I use the note 8 for a while before I decide if I want to root it. Obviously I don't want updates to happen and prevent future rooting. If there is a better way than BK disabler I am open to suggestions...
Thank you,
BK Disabler - Services Removal Explanation
@Limeybastard
Which menu within this app allows me to disable system apps that are now not allowed?
There appears to be confusion regarding the changes.
Allow me to explain.
(I've also attached a screenshot to illustrate what is missing in the newer versions.)
With earlier versions of BK Disabler, you could disable ANY Service AND still run the Application.
This would be useful if you didn't want a specific Service to run alongside the Application (e.g., You are investigating a battery drain related to Google Play and found 'AppMeasurementReceiver' Service to be the culprit. You could disable that Service but still run the Application).
With the new version of BK Disabler, you can no longer disable Services; only Applications.
The ability to disable Services WITHOUT root is a powerful option BUT can cause stability issues if used carelessly.
So you needn't worry as the new changes in BK Disabler shouldn't affect you.
