Mobile hotspot won't launch unless phone is unlocked - Tasker Tips & Tricks

I have my phone set to connect to my car's bluetooth when it recognizes the Android head unit in my car. At the same time it should then enable my mobile hotspot so my car unit can connect to my phone via wifi. This worked fine on my Samsung s8+ but since I've switched to a Huawei P20 Pro my mobile hotspot will no longer turn on unless I unlock my phone.
It seems like a feature with my phone rather than with Tasker, but I thought I'd ask as it's pretty pointless running Tasker if I have to unlock my phone every time I get in the car anyway.

I'm guessing the difference between phones is the P20 is on Oreo. Google made some changes.
What version of Tasker are you using? And are you rooted?

I understand you'd like to be able to do this via Tasker, but try Blue Car Tethering from the Play Store - this works for me on my S9 Plus running Oreo.
If it works for you, it'll give you maybe some pointers on getting Tasker working on this

I'll have a look into that thanks. I think the problem is with my phone, not tasker as it was working fine on my S8+.

I just saw a post that may be relevant to your problem. Tasker's developer, Joāo Dias, suggested the following for a similar screen off problem;
"On Huawei devices disable Powergenie which stops apps from running in the background. Try going to Settings -> Battery, then tapping on the gear in the upper right corner. Disable "Close excessively power-intensive apps".
Or use ADB:
To disable powergenie use:
adb shell pm disable-user com.huawei.powergenie
To enable powergenie:
adb shell pm enable com.huawei.powergenie"

I had a look. I don't have that option on my phone. There is only a toggle that lets you disable the prompt for battery intensive apps.

Have you tried the ADB command? On a rooted device you probably can run it right on the device running as root in a terminal, enter the command;
pm disable-user com.huawei.powergenie

Pure Nexus : Trusted Voice

Pure Nexus 7.1.2_r17, Beans Gapps June 10 Mini. I can't seem a way to enable Trusted Voice. I don't have the option under Settings>Security>SmartLock. I have tries to look under Settings>Google but there isn't anything there that I can see either. Looking around the web I see an issue identified by Google in February but nothing else. Has anyone seen this and is there a known resolution to the issue?
Thanks.

Trusted Voice should not be available for any device. The BBC ran a programme a few weeks ago where a twin was able to break into his brother's bank account despite the "impenetrable" security. Anyone who trusts any bio security deserves to live in poverty for his/her stupidity.

I wasn't aware. Is there a specific reason. Is it the hardware the limits the usability of this function. I though if one the OS had the feature it would carry along to all devices covered by that OS, especially in the case of a Nexus/Google device.
Thanks

Not to beat a dead horse here.....
I was messing around with an old US Cellular Note 2 with a CM 5.1.1 ROM on it. I found it has Trusted Voice and it works. There has to be a way to allow it on a Nexus 6.
PS: I understand the security aspect of it, but I'm slightly more concerned about going hands free when I drive.

What's wrong with google assistant?
"Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment." - Will Rogers
Nothing is wrong with Assistant. It's Trusted Voice (so I can unlock my phone by voice). Assistant responds to the hot word fine, but I still have to manually unlock the phone to do anything with Assistant.

To the best of my knowledge, trusted voice was removed, permanently. In the car, the fact that my various Bluetooth devices are present and set as trusted devices, assistant can just do its thing whether the screen is on or not.

That's something I'm considering. My hangup with that is I tend to turn my Bluetooth of when I'm not using it and I don't actually have anything Bluetooth in my car. I'm considering NFC unlock too. Ultimately, the best option in my mind would be trusted voice.

Completely remove/disable android auto?

Does anyone have a method for completely disabling or removing Android Auto? Every time I plug my phone in to charge in my wife's truck, it pops up and I have to say "no." I don't have the app installed and the required software will never land on my phone (stripped down Lineage OS install). Is there a system app I can remove or setting I can change that will make it stop popping up?

There should a setting in the radio to disable Android Auto. In my Ford it is under Android Auto settings.
My wife uses it, so doing that would increase the number of steps that I have to take. (Would have to toggle off while I'm driving and remember to toggle back on when done so she doesn't get annoyed.) I'm trying to figure out how to disable it entirely or block the intent that signals it to start.

It shouldn't be starting should it? When I plug my sons phone in which doesn't have the AA app installed it doesn't start AA on head unit. When I plug my phone in it says something like AA device detected & AA on the head unit starts. So something must be wrong with trucks AA, I think, or maybe different car manufactures do things differently?
Are you sure you can't install app on your phone? If you could install the AA on your phone there is a rejected car list option, you can add your wife's truck there and it won't start… I guess (as I've never used that option)
Alternatively you could just use one of those cigarette lighter USB chargers… I have one of those as passengers are always running low on battery LOL.
Installing the app requires installing and enabling at least one other piece of software that is well known for being bad for privacy: Google. Putting that on my phone is a non starter for anything. It's worth trying to see if I can change that setting without having to install all the dependent software though.
Just wondering if you were able to solve this? I have the exact same issue. Crazy thing is that I had gotten rid fof the annoying Android Auto prompts but then the super helpful techs at Samsung screwed up my phone trying and failing to do something else. Now the prompts are back and I can't remember how I got rid of them in the first place.
what about a cable like this ? https://www.amazon.com/PortaPow-Micro-USB-Cable-Charging/dp/B0088HTYUE
Please help. I highly recommend nobody update Android phones! Android auto does not stop popping up and is extremely annoying. It doesn't work. And causes all kinds of delays and disrupt other applications that work fine. Anybody know how to get rid of the current Android auto that was updated today?

So you are saying Android Auto was installed on your phone by default & you can't uninstall it? If you can't uninstall AA you could "freeze it" with an app, Google "freeze bloatware" there are a number of ways of doing this (even without root) depending on android version
But first is Bluetooth auto start turned off? Have you added car to reject list in settings?
If that doesn't work you can activate developer options & set USB Configuration to "charge only", though that might stop USB working how you want when connecting to something else. Or use the charge only cable as mentioned above.

How to setup "Network Access" deny all when a specific Profile is active

I have non rooted s8. I have this particular profile called Night Time which runs from night 23:30to 05:30 in morning. During this time I have already setup task for disabling wifi and auto sync off, plus media and notification volumes 0. Next 8 wish to turn the data off, but since it's not possible I learnt we can use Net Acess to deny internet to all the apps.
I figured we need to use %PACTIV but I am not Ble to figure out the rest. It would be of great help if someone can help with this.
Thanks

Tasker wifi tether 7.0

Im not sure if this is the place to ask this, but I need help.
Im trying to add a simple task to turn on my WiFi hotspot when my Bluetooth is connected.
I got the bluetooth connection part, but when I want to turn on WiFi tether it says this feature is unavailable on this device.
I am able to go into my quick bar and turn it on manually and it works fine.
I did some research and found out that people using the nexus are having this problem and they have created an app to fix it.
The only problem is the app is for 7.1 + and google wont let me install it because i only have 7.0
I have a rooted , HTC One m9 running 7.0, and today I went into the system folder and enabled WiFi tether.
Is there anyway I can make Tasker recognize that I have a WiFi tether?
what is the point in asking questions on this forum. Every time ive ever asked anything Ive never gotten an answer. There are many hundreds of android android enthusiasts out there and no one will even reply. I know there are interested parties for this subject because I've seen people on the forums talking about 7.1
Maybe if you looked at the thread right next to yours in the forum list, you would have seen this discussed before. A little effort on your part would have saved you getting all hot under the collar [emoji6]

Ive searched this site the only thing ive found is for 7.1 which doesnt work for 7.0 google wont let me install the app made to fix it. I need actual answers. or kind comments. nothing or telling me to search is not enough. I hate it when you go to a forum speciffically to fix your problem and search and cant find it only for people to tell you "you should have searched" I'll just let you know I did days worth of research before posting on here because i couldn't find it. I need to apploogize for what i said previously. You are trying to help.
Like i said though, that fix doesnt work for 7.0 it only works for 7.1 and above. I'm really trying to get the ball rolling for the android community about this bug for 7.0 I understand my device is old and now nobody cares about that version, but i cant update it my device has been rooted and it doesn't have a newer version.
I would just buy a new htc like the 10 but then its not compatible with my smart lock on my house. the only way to keep control of my home and my car is to either buy a plastic samsung phone that breaks when you drop it or buy an iphone which i dont want to do, or keep my htc on m9 its metal I can chuck it at brick walls, my home unlocks with it, and I can start my car with it.
Anyways is there any way to use the 7.1 app on 7.0? google wont let me install it.
It would really help if you took the chip off your shoulder. It your tone that probably puts people off from helping you. And I find it irritating that you vent about loads of unrelated things and provide at best only general, non-specific information about what's not working.
So, my first response in that linked thread was:
Create a task with a single action "net" -> "wifi tether". Test the task to ensure the hotspot comes on correctly. If not, download Nougat Tasker Tethering Toggle plugin.

Are you saying that the tasker action doesn't work? Or that for some reason the Nougat Tasker Tethering Toggle plugin isn't available for your nougat ROM? Or some other thing that we readers are supposed to just know what you mean?

Automatically turn on mobile hotspot when phone connnects to a bluetooth device

I've been trying to look for a simple solution to automatically turn on my Note 9's mobile hotspot when I get into my car. Unfortunately, I can't find any reliable working solutions. Especially, since it's impossible to root my phone (Verizon). I tried Macrodroid. The method it provides seems to only support old phones from a few years ago.
Are there any clever ways at all to automatically turn on the mobile hotspot on my phone when I go into my car? I don't mind occasionally manually turn on the hotspot. However, it's not a reasonable solution to manually turn on the mobile hotspot every single time I get into my car.

Thanks for the quick reply back. I was under the impression that Tasker can't do this anymore on newer Android OS's (8.1 and newer); at least, not on Samsung phones.. even with the "Nougat+ Tasker Tethering Control" plugin.
Has something changed that allows Tasker to work? Is there a new beta that allows this without rooting? If so, could you please point me to the URL that talks about this? I couldn't find it.

Hmm... doing this manually every single time isn't really feasible for me. It would be no different than toggling the mobile hotspot via the notification bar or telling Bixby to turn it on/off... it's still a manual process that I'm bound to forget to do.

I just set up a quick Tasker task to see if hotspot would turn on and it does, I'm not rooted.
This can be done with tasker, but I'm not sure it will work with the screen off (perhaps tasker can turn on the screen, though).
Create a task that does the following:
1. Turn off wifi
2. Launch Bixby voice (the 2nd entry)
3. Use autoinput to tap the keyboard icon at bottom left once Bixby voice is open.
4. Type "enable mobile hotspot".
I haven't yet found a better way to have tasker access Bixby for sending commands. Perhaps there's an intent or something we could use.
EDIT: I just tried creating a quick command, and using the Bixby button while screen off, was prompted to unlock the phone first. It would be amazing to utilize Bixby with Tasker, without unlocking the screen. Anyways, good luck.
Tasker is able to turn WiFi hotspot on perfectly with the screen off. No need to mess with Bixby.
If you're not using pie, Samsung good lock 2018 has "routines". I use for sounds profiles entering and exiting the work bubble.

The point for me was that it was automated, the Bixby button does work, but its just as fast in that case to pull down your notification shade and toggle it yourself. I just posted a response to someone else, Good Lock, Routines is the answer. See above.
