[Q] rom watches sms?

Hi guys,
So i wanted to know how i can know if someone (like the developer of a rom) is watching your text messages, and if they can send messages to cost you money...?

No they aren't, and no they can't, and its kind of rude to come here with those kinds of suspicions/paranoia.....even if you have got something very dodgy/weird/sick to hide........see....it isn't nice when people throw unfounded suspicions at you, is it?!

You didn't offend me in the slightest, I was just trying to illustrate to you what it must feel like to be a hard working Dev, giving time for free, to then have these kind of suspicions raised. I will also apologise for making the point more forcefully than was maybe necessary. Lessons learnt on both sides....I think you can rest assured that developers on xda(a very well controlled and reputable site) wouldn't dream of undertaking such misdemeanours.

You are right and I'm still learning but thanks for the answer. And i Know that the developers work really hard on these Roms (i mean they are MUCH better than the stock ones).
ps. i just want to tell you about i think its a bug that i faced when i was on your rom it it was the the IMEI changed but i don't know why. ( it was in an older version than the current one)

You sometimes lose your imei when changing between Samsung roms and Cm9/aosp rooms due to different partitions, usually you will find out changes to a generic number (can't remember what it is!) But you can usually get it back by reflashing stock GB, but always have a back up of your efs folder.......and it isn't my ROM, I just help out on slim thread to allow dev to focus on the job in hand

I think he was relating to a kernel dev here on xda,who was using his kernel to send out adds and make money.
That dev. Was kicked out of xda and will never come back.

The reason he was banned principally, from what I remember, was that he refused to share his source code, though interestingly I went to his site for the first time today to look at his ics kernel, only to find out he wants money for access to latest releases, and yes, lots of adverts etc! Not my cup of tea!

Thanks guys. Actually, there is no need to worry about alternative approaches. It's not easy to "hack" ART in a similar way as Dalvik, but it's generally working.
What most people forget:
a) ART isn't the only new thing in Lollipop. SELinux requires a lot of extra code and even more thoughts to work around the restrictions. And 64 bit breaks the assumption that everything starts in a single process, as there are two Zygote processes now. I think it's important to consider this right from the start.
b) The actual (net) time required to write code is far away from the time that passes. It's not like I work on Xposed every evening. There are weeks when I don't look at the code at all. Yes, I do have other things in my life, and some have a higher priority. So even if something would take just a few evenings to code, it might take me a couple of weeks to actually do it. And once I publish something, you probably wouldn't like it if I took off for a few weeks.
If it was just about coding, pushing the source could be helpful. But that works best if there's already a clear concept of what is needed and an idea how this can be split up into work packages. Often it takes hours to come up with a concept that can be coded in 20 lines. Remember how many people are using Xposed meanwhile. We don't want to have some quick code that works by accident, so it's vital to think everything through carefully, and that takes time.
So yeah. It will take more time, I still don't give any ETA, but I'm quite confident that we'll have something nice some day.

You can probably count the people who really understand Xposed and how it works at one hand (and you'll basically have to start from scratch for lollipop).
It's not like there were hundreds of contributors in the past, so what you're trying to say here is invalid.
Yes, there would probably be some people who could help out, but keep in mind that every minute rovo is helping others to better understand what's going on isn't available for him to do some actual development (which includes research and drafting ideas).
I'm sure that any top tier dev who feels confident to actually bring xposed for lollipop forward can contact rovo anytime and get his wip code, but so far no one has spoken out.
The sad truth is that 95% of the xda users are people without any real technical knowledge - and the only thing they do is to offer to "test" something to gain access to something before it's release.
Unfortunately those testers are rarely ever needed, at least not within the core development phase, here it takes way more time to explain people what is needed than to just test it yourself.
When you're rolling something out to production and want to make sure that the last little bugs within different usage cases and configurations are squashed, sure you'll need testers, but not before.
But for now that's not the case, so it might be better to keep the unhelpful comments to oneself

He had 666 Followers and I thought it was funny and would lighten up a few peoples stress filled days. The only reason I saw this was because I was going through his posts and READING all of them to get an update as to where we stand.

Hi guys! Yeah, I'm part of those 95% (I'm a lawyer), but I'm very grateful to rovo for his work. I have Nexus 5, but I'm still on Android 4.4.4 because of Xposed, and I'm not going to update to 5.0 until the new version of Xposed is done. You can see how important it is for me. @rovo89, I'm pretty sure that many people would pay you to complete your work. I understand that you have higher priorities and you are doing all of this for fun, but have you thought that you have almost 3 millions of downloads? If you create your team of software engineers and sell Xposed at 2$ (2€), you work on it every day for several months, and we assume that most of the current users buy your product, you will have enough money to pay your team and dedicate all of your time at what you want. It's just a suggestion of one of these 3 millions of users, that would pay more than 2$ and appreciate your work so much! Best regards from Spain!

rovo has said on multiple occasions that he won't take money for working on Xposed as he does not want it to become a job where he feels obligated to work on it full time.
He's working on it already. Offers of monetary gain won't make that work go any faster. Everyone will just have to be patient.

We don't know if he is really doing on it (I hope yes but..) since we have no proofs (only claims) and no documentable code progress since August 2014. Plus, rovo89 was active here last year till August or so. Then he left.
If there are people who want work on it and have enough skills to port it, they should fork it and not wait. I saw some guys on github who want to work on ART port.

He flat out stated he would not post progress publicly either on GitHub or here and to wait until he had something worth publishing (that real contributors could help with) without bothering him. Comments on issues on GitHub do show he is/was working on it.
The real problem is that people are impatient and feel entitled to updates on progress, even though rovo explicitly stated that he wouldn't be doing that.
As for others *wanting* to work on it; nobody is stopping them forking the project and doing so. If they get it working then that would be fantastic and I'm sure everyone including rovo would be happy and grateful. That's the great thing about open source.

i'm a user and for me is normally this long time...the system of cache is completaly changed....and see it immediately in the booting process and the loading apps process.

It is already 2015 and there is still no support for lollipop. It was working fine with jelly bean. I just installed a custom lollipop rom and I wanted to user xposed with greenify. It seems I have to wait and your saying will just be a conspiracy. You should really stop creating this kind of threads. Value people's creativity. That fact that, there is a delay doors not mean it will not be made. If for anything at all, give them some morale

Lollipop is a completely new system. The difference between KitKat and Lollipop is almost the same as between Windows 95 and Windows XP, if not larger... Lollipop looks like ordinary Android, acts like it, but it is NOT it...

Guys be very careful

Gents last week I bricked my new P9 lite VNS-L31C02B125 which was only 10 days old. I was downgrading from test keys N back to M. The phone went black and that was it with only fastboot mode access. I took my chances, handed in the phone back to the shop and luckily they gave me a new one.
As you us xda members only want the latest and best out there. The same day I received the phone I was on it again and boom it suffered the same death. But this time it died because I was looking for dual sim support. I had to go the way of DC-Phoenix this time revive the phone and boy it was not easy as I was now getting stuck at phone is now booting and could go into stock recovery and that is it.
Too cut the long story short and why I say be careful, there's a rom I downloaded here on XDA and can't recall exactly where and is labelled VNS-L31C432B130 got me confused, as it is the one that ended up helping my phone to come up from boot loop and ending up with dual sim and Nougat B370. Now my question and concern is how a B130 rom change to a B370? I think this is what got my first phone to brick as this is the rom I flashed when I was rolling back to M from N test keys thinking it is android M rom.
The good news is that am now sitting with a dual sim Nougat B370 :laugh::laugh::laugh:

There are people on the forums who wanted to update their phones without waiting for OTA and they brick their phones.
I warned some people on the forum and sadly, most of them called me a troll and other things.
Anyway, i'm happy that you solved your problem

Sounds like your typical XDA know-it-all cowboys that actually have little idea what they're doing. Hate when they do that, because when they release a ROM claiming to be safe it only puts your phone (and wallet) at risk.
That said, I just got one myself, how is development for this phone?

I got my P9 Lite a few days ago, and although I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to Huawei devices, coming from the P6 and G7, I'm not planning on updating to Nougat until I get my OTA. This forum is filled with posts about bricked devices, and I'm not in the mood to struggle getting my device back up and running again. [emoji23] I've learnt my lesson with the G7. [emoji13] Hopefully the wait for Nougat won't be too long. [emoji5]

actually, most people on this forum either want to update without waiting, or flash custom roms.
the whole point of this forum is to take a risk and try things, and if you brick your phone, unbrick it and try again till it works.
the way it works on the p9 lite forums is try something, brick your phone and complain about it instead of reading the instructions.
you can't even find the answers to problems on these forums because of the huge amount of threads about the same thing, "i tried this, but now my phone doesn't work anymore. fix it"
the only warning people need is that they could possibly brick their phone if they don't know what they're doing, and if they do, follow the instructions to fix it

Note 8 has no root or custom firmwares?

Does it have, got my Note 8 a week ago but just wondering has I have not seen anykind of movement for the US variant.

For the US 950U and 950U1 snapdragon there is no root for the May update. That is bootloader revision 4 and has no root at this time. Your best bet is to keep a eye on the samfail thread for updates.

If your past U3 were sol for now. I think theres only one guy working on a possible partial root. There are lots of apps for theming. Substranium and Good lock are great.

Don't you think if someone found a way to root the newest firmware there would be a lot more sites talking about it?

Before posting I always use the search feature cause it's very usefull. Has you know there are multiple threads and forums and specifically a T-Mobile Model one and its pretty much dead. If YOU read above I said that I didn't see any kind of activity. Another one is that if you read more down below, I stated that all I could find is a SamFail one but it's pretty outdated. So I came here to the Questions & Answers area and posted this thread here to see if anyone had an idea of whats happening with the US models

The thing is theres not much firmware differences between models. They might have slight baseband changes but they're all based on the same thing. So root that would work on a Verizon Note8 would work on a T-Mobile Note8.
And yes, the only one we have is sadly the V3 for those unlucky to update.
And I imagine people would check the last section of the thread to be on standby since apparently theres a new exploit that might (or might not) help.
This is why I assumed you didn't check first, but since you did (I didn't see that part), I apologize.

Thanks for the heads up, I really like the root and all that stuff. Especially for getting rid of all T-Mobile crap on the phone. I'm a person that chages phone alot but I think I'll be giving this guy an exchange for another phone lol. I literally don't last a month with a phone has I like to test other brands and models

Don't worry, I searched everywhere but nothing found. Sometimes you know, people spread rumors or someone may know of something that's been on progress but it doesn't come up on public threads.
I been rooting my phones literally ever since I had an Android phone and always do my reaserch before posting on forums, cause you know there's always the people that come and say "Use the search feature" and always try to avoid that.
And yeah, all I read about was on Nougat. So I'll just asume it's dead.

You switch phones a lot too? Same, heh. Went from having a Note 4 to iPhone 8 Plus, then Note 8, then iPX, then back to Note 8 (cause drawing), but to be fair, I do miss a little of Apple.
To be fair, it's not dead (yet) since the Oreo update landed pretty recently, plus the only tool we had for making it possible got executed pretty much, so I'd give it a little time.
And that search feature situation is a fair point.

Yeah, I have had literally all flagship phones by now except for the Huawei P20.
Last Apple Device I had was the iPX, very good device but the atmosphere of the OS makes it pretty boring to me and get bored at it pretty quickly has you can't make any changes to the look of it.
I got this Note 8, exchanged it for my iPX. The guy that maked the deal with me gave me around 200 bucks and the Note for the iPhone lol.
I love the Note 8, super fast and love the big screen.

I am not a coder or a programmer and there is no need for you to feel defensive about a simple question. New phones are usually rooted within days of being released but it has been a month since the s10 release and nothing. I think it's natural that there would be people like me wondering what's going on. I'm curious about the reasons as to why nobody managed to do it yet...

or they have to make sure its stable and app updates dont corrupt it and brick the phone, else they have people whining it bricked their phone even though theres the standard disclaimer about not being responsible for tears and nuclear war, which a lot of folk do not read. The abundance of help I bricked my phone threads has any relevance to it.

I think the OPs question was more about is there something special that makes the s10 hard/impossible to root since it's taking much longer than usual. I did not feel his tone being "get to it you lazy devs" so people need to chill and stop being offensive thinking they are defending/helping devs by being jerks. We have enough SJW in the world right now...
I wouldn't be worried for root being released eventually, since the official magisk Twitter showed a rooted s10, so it's probably coming. Maybe it's taking long to make sure it's stable and not bricking devices as others mentioned.
The real problem for it taking long to release is that scammers find the opportunity to make money from innocent people and brick their devices, since Google search for s10 root is full of them.

Omg. Most people do that in their spare time and don't charge money for it. I'm pretty shure you have not donated to john wu. If you would follow his work e.g. On Twitter you would know what he is working on atm...

Well firstly this is about twrp recovery, not magisk.
Secondly donate to basically buy a device for someone. Lol nah. It's a hobby yes and also an expensive one. I purchase all my devices outright but don't come crawling up to people to help pay for it. I work hard for my money!
Lastly, assumption is the mother of all f ups. You don't know my history with John, many years ago I helped him before magisk times.

You work hard for your money, but others developing stuff you will use should work equally hard but for free ?

I dont usually comment on such statements because it's just a **** show and has nothing to do with what should be discussed in such forums. But i cant stand it. I also work hard for my money but if something is given to me for free, be it twrp be it magisk be it whatever I would not dare to ask for eta, to demand, to call something lame. Do it yourself if you have such a rich history, i could not care less about.

Urm did not even mention ETA. Just noting an observation. And quite frankly couldn't care less about your assumptions either. Have a good day now

For US users there won't be TWRP until a unlocked bootloader happens which I doubt from reading around. The better option is if you're an international user and have access to buying the Exynos version, it will have the option to unlock the bootloader in the dev options. At that point it's just porting TWRP. It's a fairly new device so I don't expect anything for a few months. If you NEED TWRP or NEED root get another device.

I don't know which phones the OP is referring to that are rooted and have recoveries within days of release but those phones are not usually Samsung flagship devices and especially not Snapdragon variants. I too am old school in that it's pretty arrogant to ask for something when you have such feeble knowledge of what is involved in creating it. BTW... the Note7 got root but not the unlocked bootloader that would allow development to really take off. Samsung doesn't give two squats about the couple of hundred people for whom Viper is a necessity that ranks with breathing and eating. They care far more about the corporate and government sales, customers who don't want to see their phones hacked.
The ****show will really start if root is available and the dozens of people who can't follow directions start "bricking" their phones.
