I had Mi A1 before it, and never get a hot device after using Facebook and Instagram. Who has the same issue or this is totaly normal?

I'm using a miui rom and I love it but my phone gets really hot when using the browser. It doesn't get hot when using wifi, only with the normal data connection
Anyone any ideas why this is happening? Also my phone isn't overclocked. Thanks
I've noticed when downloading a lot to my phone it gets hot near the top, or when in download mode. never been any really cause for concern as it always cools down quickly afterwards.

I don't do any downloading, just browsing. As I said it gets very hot and the battery consumption goes through the roof! Something like 1% a minute. Maybe it's the modem.
It's normal.
It may be caused by 3G. 3G really gets the phone hot and drains the battery. That's why I disabled it. No problem about temperature.
Thanks for the replies. My phone didn't get hot using other froyo or gingerbread roms. It's not a big deal as long as it's not harming my phone. Really don't want to go back as I am now a miui convert.
After using 20 min of Facebook application, the back top of note gets extremely hot.
I installed CPU spy, and noticed Facebook is taking my CPU to 1400 all the time.
Even though notifications in Facebook is turned off, if I don t close Facebook, it makes my Note red hot ...
Any ideas ?
Forgot to add i m using 4.0.4 stock german rooted android rom ...
I tried removing facebook and installing it again ... Still getting hot.
I flashed davlick and battery ... Still geting hot. ..

I think the Facebook app is just badly written. Try Friendstream?

I have noticed the same thing when using the facebook app. I am on Cassie's ROM w/ notecore kernel. Like pjfriend said its just a badly written app.
Same Problem Here. It's Facebook App Problem.
same here
i was wondering why my battery was draining... and noticed with OS Monitor that facebook was still "running" and consumming althought I was not there anymore... and it is not even configured to retrieved the notifications...
ended uninstalling it and using the mobile website instead... working correctly too - and there is one app not to update every 3 or 4 days anymore
Hello guys,
Recently my Moto X 2014 has been overheating like never did before, normal use with the phone, no charging makes the ENTIRE phone, screen and back go EXTREMELY HOT. It recently got updated with 22.121.1_victara...
I've also noticed a huge battery drain when this happens and somehow I lose all my carrier signal. I haven't noticed any program running in the background and this can only be fixed by rebooting the phone, leaving the phone on idle with wifi off won't even fix it, the temperature just gets higher and higher.
This really concerns me because such extremely high temperature can damage the battery and the phone's lifetime.
Thanks in Advance,
Diogo
Next time it happens put the phone in airplane mode. It sounds as if you are loosing signal and the phone is trying to regain signal at the cost of battery life and overheating. The same thing happens to me when I am in an area with absolutely no signal. I don't know what would be causing it (other than just insufficient signal), but this would help determine if this indeed is what is happening.
Putting it into flight mode doesn't help either. Leaving the phone on a table without touching it with airplane mode on still makes the temperature go higher, it doesn't stop. The only fix is rebooting.
Do you have it rooted? A stock restore would probably fix the issue.

Nope, just stock Android 5.0... (Still waiting for the 5.1 update )
Same problem here! I'm still in 4.4 and even of I look at the Battery stats I can't identify the reason of this battery drain!

My phone gets very hot while charging only at times as well but i use a quickcharger so it never stays that hot for that long. Only takes a little over an hour for a full charge

My Mi 5 seems to be overheating, I was in a 30-degree bus while using and it seemed to be going at least 50 degrees which burnt my finger when I touched the screen and held the phone. My friend had an iPhone 6s and he was even listening to music and messaging his friends and heavy using his phone but it wasn't even that hot. I've tried multiple ROMs and it doesn't seem to be that. I felt my Mi 5 could even catch on fire in that heat. I am thinking of upgrading to an iPhone 7 mainly because this issue, also my Mi 5 does overheat even in 20-degree heat while doing heavy usage such as playing Pokemon Go, using maps and watching videos. I've only had my Mi 5 for a couple of months and don't want to upgrade my phone so soon. While it was overheating today I was listening to music and messaging a couple of friends and the brightness was 50%. I was using the CM14.1 ROM. But I have had this issue before, just not this bad. Is anyone else having the same issue to my level, if so can I please have some help? I am using the 64GB model.
I never reached that temperature with my Mi5 ,only after intensive use maybe 41°C a few times but never that high like Tours.Try in twrp to wipe data and cache ,dalvic cache too and check after that.If that is not working try a new fresh install rom with wipe all

Thanks for trying to help. But as mentioned before I have tried over ROMs etc. Do you think I should get a new device as it seems as my MI 5 is a fire hazard. I can't return it cause I bought it in China and am in New Zealand at the moment.
Thanks, Sam
Ok
My phone rarely gets hot. I basically never reach 50°C, however when i rant a multithreaded stress test programm, i easily reached 80°C for the CPU within the first few seconds. The phone itself would be heating up in time as well, but well, this is the worst case scenario that rarely happens to anyones phone. Its a phone after all, entertainment and such, not something you can unload some work onto. Well, thats at least my take on "smart"phones these days.
So if you reach 50°C while doing basically nothing, while the ambient temperature, is like 20°C somethings definitely off. Maybe there is some issue with the clockspeed and its locked at the highest tier at all times. that might explain the eating for no reason, while load would remain low.
P.S. I doubt there is a hardware defect
My phone is randomly rebooting while in idle situation, though i can't certainly replicate this thing, but it is rebooting like 3 to 4 times a day when ever it is lying idle, it never reboots when i abusing it, so i am confused why this thing is happening at first place, i have tried factory reset phone, but still it reboots randomly, can anybody tell me why it is happening.
