Ok, So here's my plan:
1. Go to AT&T website. Login. Add a line
2. Choose the phone I want with that new line for the discounted price or free with two year contract.
3. Receive the phone in the mail with brand new sim and everthing
4. Only take the phone out the box never touch the sim, unlock the phone, put different sim from another phone service in it and start using the phone with that service (or simply swap the sim for the line I'm already using)
5. Never activate the new line
Will i still have to pay for the second line if I never activate it? Or do I walk away sky free with my new phone?
someone said they have done this and it worked, I want feedback before I try and end up getting stuck paying another bill for a second line I don't need or want.
Wonder if this works? Would love to know!

Eventually they will wonder what happened to the phone they sent to you and either ask for it back or activate it on their end I am sure. What do you do when you don't send a phone back to them?
aka how to try to cheat the system and fail
this won't work because when you agree to purchase at the discounted price, it comes with the expressed agreement that you are creating a new line that you will use and pay for 1 year or 2 years. if you do not activate the line, you will be charged for a line cancelation/ETF. without any months used, that means you'll pay for discounted price of phone and an ETF of at least $350
basically, AT&T isn't stupid. if you've thought of this idea, it's likely they have as well.

I don't know....That's why I asked second opinions, but how can they cancel what was never activated? And I haven't signed any agreements? So why would I pay a early termination fee for something I never activated, or terminated?

Why would you have to send something back that you paid for? That's like buying something from Wal-mart, and not using it the way it was supposed to be used so they ask you to bring it back... Not Likely. Lol

clicking agree is the same thing as signing your name on paper.
when you go to the web site and ask for a second line (with a phone) you must click "agree" to a contract. read the contract. you agree to pay for the phone if you do not activate the second line with a 2 year(or whatever) contract. that is why they send you a phone, because you agree to be a customer for a couple years.

when you buy something from walmart you BUY it, you PAY MONEY for it. so OF COURSE they wouldnt ask you to bring it back. but if you RENT a car, and dont bring it back, they charge your credit card, as you agreed too.
yeah dont do that! someone may have fallen through the cracks here and there, but believe me they dont give you the phone on just good faith. they can charge you for the phone full price on the credit card, they can activate your line anyway and charge you for the two years of service, they can put it on your credit report, and they can charge you with theft. maybe they have a bad system and people get away with it, maybe in a court you can get a really good lawyer and get out of it for only lawyer and court fees(more expensive anyway) but all in all it is not a good idea.

Unless it's offered for free, you do actually pay for the phone though. You just get a discounted price.
Eample, if the phone retails at $599, they give it to you for $199 if you agree to two years of service.
So after you pay the offered price, the phone is yours. They cannot ask for it back, regardless if you terminate service early or whatever. And they charge your credit card right up front before they even ship it out. So that is what I met by the Wal Mart analogy, Once you pay for something its yours
its called early termination fee... they get the rest of the cost of the phone out of you.
so ya pay 0$ or $199 on a more expensive phone, you can keep it and not do the contract
but you have to pay for cancelling the contract.. so you basically pay the remainder of the phone.
and EVERYONE else that has even bothered answering this thread agrees.

Wtf? I never said I was right! All I did was ask for some feedback you prick. I just wanted to see what others thought before I tried, and now I know. Now why are you getting so sensitive about the issue? Do you work for AT&T or something? Dam.
And my sig has nothing to do with you, and most those phones weren't mine they were my wifes, except for the G1, either way not your concern, go inspire a life

Since you like correcting people, and I'm sure 1400 of your 1700+ posts on xda are probably you being a ****....Allow me to correct you.
Just because you inquire a fee for something it does not reflect the price value of the merchandise. Example, you pay $199 for a phone that is originally $599, you cancel contract early and pay the ETF of $250 ( I don't know where the **** you got $350 from ) You look at it as if you paid full price of the phone right? Wrong. You may have spent in total almost 500 bucks anyway, but not on the phone. Because if you paid full price for the phone which is $599 plus the ETF of $250...your total spent would be about 850 dollars. Big difference right? Right.
Moral to the story, before you try to be a smart ass, you first have to be smart, otherwise, that just makes you an ass!
i never started name calling or being sensitive, and obviously i dont work for att im canadian.
why did you bother asking us if you know you are right?
im done.

Thread closed, since this won't lead to nothing. Also, discussion in how to avoid payment or leaning to cheating it doesn't sound good.
If you want to do it, do it. No need to discuss it in a public forum.
People who are going to the Sprint store to upgrade to the HTC One should know there is an issue with the system that is preventing the phone from being seen as discount available. They had to call the Sprint National Service Center to put in a manual discount on the account. I was told there were multiple people who tried and had the same problem.
The reason I am posting this is that you shouldn't expect it to be a 5-10 minute upgrade. It took over an hour for me. Loving the phone, so it was worth it.
I got mine without any serious issue. Anytime she tried to print off a receipt her computer would crash. They used another and all was well.
I had no issues.. they didnt get the $100 off instand but manager just over wrote it .... in and out in 15 min before work. Also if u mention that u get extra $50 invoice (currently online only) credit for buisness accounts... they might put that in too. I got that as well.

that credit towards the business account ?
Yes, basically a fam account under a tax id. But the discount should still apply to any account with any monthly discount associated with it, ie student. The credit goes towards ur next bill... its still something making my phone only $50 without htc trade in.
http://sprint.p.delivery.net/m/p/nxt/dev/wdyw.asp
Enter any email ending with edu... and it will give u a coupon code SAVE50.... add the phone to cart and print the cart without actually ordering and take it to the store and they should take care of it.
I do have a pdf when it shiwed the htc one for 99.. let me know if u need it.

It's $199.99 but if he's correct then you can get it with that extra $50 off at $149.99. There's no way to get an upgrade with the phone only costing $50 without the HTC Trade in. If so the Sprint store is only 1/4 mile from my work and Im heading over to buy mine and then Ill cancel it with Newegg.
I'm just looking for the cheapest price, though I don't want to wait an entire week so that's why I chose the Newegg method. Lucky enough for me, I dont have to pay the 36 activation fee. Thank you, Sprint business account.

the Save50 is what is being referred to it is a $50 credit applied to the account. But the $100 instant he is referring to and getting that as a transaction override instore is of even more significance if he managed to get the phone at $99 like a new customer rather than the $199 thru Sprint.com upgrade screw..
I got a new line.. ported in a number... so yes the phone is $50 before htc trade in and -$50 If I do the trade in.

$450 instant saving? so the phone is only 99.99? not the 199.99? is it cheaper for business account?
Tried it but when I entered the promo code it said "The promotional code does not apply to any items in your shopping cart. Check the code and try again"
Any idea?
EDIT* Looks like it doesn't work for upgrades.
bummer, sprint sure treat loyal customers pretty well don't they
I went in to the Sprint store this morning to pick up my preorder and I would say I had a very pleasant experience. I dont know if this was the $50 discount spoke about earlier, but without saying anything, the phone rang up at $149. I am upgrading 3 months early, so I paid a $100 UpgradeNow fee. I traded in my Epic Touch 4G for $75 and had the $50 Sprint gift card that I had to buy to hold my preorder, so all in all, I paid $139 in store today. Not too shabby for being impatient and wanting to get rid of my Samsung as quick as possible.
Also, she got my gmail address because she said they were going to send me a $25 Google Play Store card. Nice little bonus :good:
I went to a Sprint store earlier this morning. They had no dummy phones to look at, they had no phones to sell, and they also had no idea that the phone was even released today. (I'm guessing it wasn't a corporate store, but you wouldn't know from looking at it (it's just south of Houston, TX.).
I told them "Well, I know Best Buy has them; I just didn't want to drive all the way over there...".
He said "Well, I'm sure they DON'T, otherwise we would at least have a shipment scheduled or something."
20 minutes later, I was doing the paperwork at BB, with my slick new One in my hands...(It was 199+ tax on a line that was eligible for an upgrade.).
How do these so-called "Sprint" stores even manage to get any business if they literally have no idea of a device's existence on a release day?
Anyway, I'm happy as a clam with my white one, FWIW.
I have and probably will keep my Note 2, just to have, and to mess around with different Roms, and also for its screen size, but this One will definitely be my daily driver. The difference in the builds/the quality of the devices is like night and day.

You guys don't even want to hear my story. So I pre ordered from Lets Talk like some of you may have. I get the notification that it won't be here till sometime next week, so I'm like "OK I'll cancel it" as my local store had some in stock. Cancelled it. Went in this morning to a store right when the doors open. They pull up my account and say there's no upgrade for me. So I end up calling Lets Talk to verify if my order had been cancelled. Lets just say that I've been calling Lets Talk and Sprint from 9am-1pm trying to figure out wtf was going on. I finally decide to call Lets Talk one more time. The rep I spoke to said that the order was cancelled when the item was in activation and picking, so they had to manually deactivate the device. Around 130pm when I'm about to leave I receive a call back from Lets Talk saying the upgrade has been reset. Just to make sure I called Sprint customer service and the local Sprint store just to double check that the upgrade was there. Indeed it was so I rushed to pick it up as I had to be at work at 220pm. Got my phone opened it at work and that's my CRAZY CRAZY story. I hope none of you guys had to go through any of that.

Yea but sprint doesn't compete with online retailers. Most companies can't.
And the HTC one has always been 200 since the day it was released.
But there are ways a new customer can get an HTC one or S4 completely free.

Best buy always has various great deals the one for the HTC One is good right now. $99 for the One trade in your old phone and put the amount toward the One and get a $50 gift card for Best Buy. The S4 had a deal a week ago. I will never buy from anywhere but Best Buy from now on and the last place would be from Sprint. They screw me over on my data enough I don't need there ridiculous prices and activation fees and about 1/3 the price for trading in your phone as Best Buy.

What makes you think you don't get charged activation/upgrade fees from Best Buy? Read the contract.
A Sprint store would offer discounts on accessories with a phone purchase, Best Buy does not.
A Sprint store will take the time to educate the customer on their new phone, Best Buy does not.
A Sprint store will assist the customer with applying or re-validating their discount, Best Buy does not.
A Sprint store has access National Sales Support (NSS) to resolve complicated issues, Best Buy does not.
1/3 the price on Buy Back? Where do you get that info from? Sure, Best Buy MAY give you a little more for your phone than a Sprint store will, but we're talking maybe $20 tops. Sprint follows a national AVERAGE for Buyback value on phones.
Sprint stores can also offer different credits and discounts to beat Best Buy prices, such as the $100 port-in credit, or the ability to get $100 off any phone if you sign up for Sprint's Home Phone Connect service. I had a customer the other day who walked out with a FREE Galaxy S4 and free accessories... he had an iPhone 5 from Verizon and cancelled his Verizon contract. He got $100 for keeping his Verizon number, and another $100 for signing up for the Phone Connect... so that's a free S4 right there. Then he traded in his iPhone 5 for a $245 credit and used that money to buy a bunch of stuff for his new phone. Total out the door cost = FREE.
Best Buy can't match everything we do, as Sprint corporate won't allow it.

Yes, you need two VALID lines. You must meet 1 of these 3 qualifications:
1) Be a new customer activating at least 2 new lines of service.
2) Be an upgrade eligible customer upgrading at least 2 new lines of service.
3) Be an upgrade eligible customer upgrading at least 1 line of service and adding at least 1 new line.
Any of those scenarios will qualify you for the BOGO offer.

Won't work. When the store processes the phone in SNAP, your line would be a service when it has to be a new or upgrade. So even IF the store personnel didn't know what they were doing and gave you the in-store credit, Sprint themselves would not pay the store back for the credit because the BOGO offer was done wrong.
The only way you can do this is if you add TWO more lines of service. Then just give the 3rd S4 to someone else or something.

Buddy you got all the wrong information. I work for Best Buy Mobile, and we do all of that.
Buy any case upto 24.99 get a zaggshield HD or car charger for only $10. OR all 3 for just $50
Buy any case upto 34.99 get a Zaggsheild HD or car charger for only $10 Or all 3 for $60
We price match accessories to any online or store retailer, including the $50 Otterbox's for $25 that are on sale at Amazon. And most of the time if you ask if you can give a discount on a case or charger, mobile manager or sales leads can give you a "customer satisfaction" discount.
I don't think any carrier store spends as much time with a single customer as we do at BBYM. We do not work on commission and don't rush you out of the store to get to the next customer to make money off of them and rush them out. There have been times where I have had older customers come into the store and I've spend an hour with them just educating them about the technology, finding out what their needs are, what they plan on using the phones for, and all of the different pricing options, plans etc. then another hour setting the phones up for them, google, corporate email accounts, apps, showing them how to work it and etc.
True we can't do the $100 credit for new service/bringing your number from another carrier, but Our system we use does allow us to search for corporate discounts to apply to the customers account.
And we do have NSS access to Sales Support for issues that may come up, and trust me, Sprint is the one that usually has the most issues with phones not wanting to update and activate and prl and profile updates not going through, also we have our Sprint Account Manager just a phone call away if there are issues that need immediate attention that calling NSS can't resolve as far as phones not activating due to still being on another account or Bad ESN's that need to be taken care of to reactivate for the customer.
As far as our protection plan, the best in the industry, $9.99 a month (a dollar cheaper than Sprint) with $0 deductible and UNLIMITED Claims. Although we do not cover loss of theft, but then that's why we have zero deductible and unlimited claims. As long as you have your phone, whatever is wrong with it, (cracked, broken, dropped in toilet, charger, battery, charge port) we'll take care of it. As for Iphones go, we now even replace the glass In Store. And if you have our Geek Squad Protection you automatically get our Trade-In Plus for free, and that will give you an additional $50 on top the trade in value of the phone.

Lol okay. You sound like a Sprint employee for sure. Just speaking from my personal experience. I got $262.50 credit from Best Buy for my S3 Sprint was going to give me $106. I'm not going to argue but simply reiterate that Best Buy is a way better place to buy products, and insurance etc.

Buy Back everywhere is a joke... $245 for an iphone 5 I would be insulted.. they're what $600 at the store clearly it's 1/3 of the price right there..
my bf did that phone connect discount and he's going to end up paying more over all.... he doesn't even use his phone and hasn't even taken it out of the package...
Sprint Guy... how can a new customer get a free s4?

I'm going on information I have on hand, where I live our Best Buy sucks and I've been told that by customers many times. People tell me it's just like RadioShack, where yea they'll sell you a phone and if you're lucky they'll transfer contacts for it, but that's it. And the reason is BECAUSE you don't work on commission... a LOT of salespeople have no motivation to go the extra mile. They make a base pay and that's it. If they deal with 20+ customers a day, each one ending with the same result, then where's the drive to be the best? If you can't LOSE money as a sales rep, then you shouldn't call yourself a salesman IMHO. In that case you're just a customer service guy.
People have commission all wrong and it cracks me up when I see the Best Buy commercials that say you guys don't work on commission. Commission is what motivates salesmen to do a good job. Say a customer comes in my store and buys 4 new phones and I make $100 off that single transaction... it's my JOB to make sure they're 100% satisfied, because if they're not they have every right to return those phones and then I lose the commission, so now I just wasted time AND lost money because I half ass job. A typical single line upgrade will last about 45 minutes with us. We don't rush, and if we have customers waiting we simply set the expectations, tell them how long we'll be, and invite them to come back later so they don't have to wait. We go over ever aching detail from contact, picture, video, email, ringtone transfers to customer education. Then afterwards, the customer gets a CSAT call where they get to rate us. If our CSAT score is too low, we lose even more money off our commission. So once again, the result is that if you're dealing with a salesman who's pay and lively hood is directly effected by your (the customer's) level of satisfaction, then why do people assume commission-based salesmen don't do their job? Makes no sense.
But I digress.. Don't get me wrong bud, I am certainly NOT saying you do a bad job. If your particular Best Buy is a good one, and you in particular do an awesome job in phone sales, then that's great. I'm simply saying ours is not a good store, and the people there don't really give a crap.
Also, our accessory deals are pretty good. We do almost the same thing as you... buy any case for $29.99 or less and we'll bundle screen protectors and a car charger for a flat $40. We simply don't offer Zagg's because we don't believe in wet application screen protectors. OtterBox's are a big seller for us, and if you buy a Defender you don't need a Zagg anyway. We can't really match Amazon pricing for OtterBox because we're a preferred retailer, but we'll take a Defender down to $39.99 if we have too and still make a bundle deal.

NEW customer?
If you port your number to Sprint from a different carrier you will get $100 in-store credit. If you sign up for the Home Phone Connect on top of that you'll get another $100 in-store credit. That means you can get an S4 for only $50 in store, but then you get a $50 mail-in rebate. So after everything is said and done, you get a free GS4.

The current offer is get $100 off when porting in, I assume you did this on your Att port in 2 days ago. This offer expires the day before the new offer starts. Just do that now for her line as it nets the same total cost as the bogo.

Did they ship it to you as brand new or used b/c the S5 itself from amazon cost $100 which it is not a bad deal for it. But, I feel like I don't want to buy it off from online if it is used phone. Also, Is there any additional contract like I can't change phones by using the sim card and will get a fine for it? I did search it and half of the people said they don't have any problems at all or they got problems and have to deal with att? Plz help! Thanks!

I bought my s5 from Amazon about 2 weeks ago. It is brand new, not used. It was $99 for the AT&T version. I don't think there is anything in the contract about switching the sim with another phone. They just want you to fulfill the contract terms and not change your plan before the end of the contract. When the phone arrives, you just have to activate the sim by calling AT&T or by going online. Super simple.
hmm, interesting. Thank you for the answer! I might order it online or go to the local Walmart and buy it since both of them have the same deal.
Also, I have other question, maybe a stupid one but I know my phone contract expired two days ago and I am not eligibility to update that time which it don't make sense at all. My dad did called AT&T and they told us that they put restrictions all of my family's lines instead of one line for 60 days. We fight about it and they won't do it unless we pay them extra money. So is it possible if I can buy the S5 off from amazon and activate it by doing online or I have to wait?
I bought me and my wife's phone on Amazon 2 weeks ago for $99 each.
Amazon does have their own contract you have to fufill or else they charge you an EFT. You can not make any changes or cancel the line for 180 days or else you pay their ETF they will bill the card you bought the phone with. Buying the phone and then moving that service to another line counts to them as canceling the contract and they will charge you. You have to order the phone for whatever line you want it on.
It is brand new. Nothing refurb.
If you have the unlimited data plan you can not keep it with amazon. They don't give you the option. You can call after you activate it and put in a request to get it back, and they will give it back to you, but its a pain in the butt and took me 2 weeks.
You can try and add the phone to your cart on amazon and it will verify if you are upgrade eligible right then and there. If it says you are, you can order it, if it says you aren't it won't even let you add it to your cart.
1) Are you going to be able to pick up at the store with the pre-order because when i went to the store they said they will only ship it to you
2) If they are shipping to you, did they charge you a shipping fee?
3) When you traded in your phone did they say it'll be deferred trade in, meaning you are responsible for trading it in via mail? or did they do the trade in immediately for you and you traded it in on the spot?
I ask these questions because it sounds like to me that when you pre-order in store, they basically is just ordering it for you online for you and print you out the same documents that you can just print out yourself if you ordered it online yourself.
The note 4 will come to my house. I ship back my note 3 in the box they provide. Just like a warranty phone. They didn't charge me shipping.

They ship it to you. I imagine if they had to ship it to the store they'd have inventory control issues.

Yes, they charged me 6.99 for shipping.
Also note even if you finance it (EIP) you still pay the tax up front.
So I had 45.41 in tax and 6.99 in shipping for total upfront of 52.40.

I'm new to tmobile but had two lines. One for an iphone 6 so I could start service right away. For mine they list the device recovery program details (my trade in phone information) on my preorder receipt. And yes I'll have to mail it in after I get my new phone.

As I was signing up for new service, I decided to do it in store.
I'm not sure about the trade-in with the preorder at the same time.
But I assume you can do that online.
My receipt for this looks like a printed website. Though it is from handsetorder.internal.t-mobile.com so I assume it isn't a customer facing site.
I'm a new customer and ordered online on 9/24. All I got was the signed EIP email and another one saying they received my order, with only my name, order number, date and time of order, and a number that looks like the amount due, but it doesn't even have dollar sign.
The temporary charge has now disappeared from my credit card, so I hope everything is still okay and on track.

Do T-mobile ship by UPS or Fedex?
If UPS, can you tell it to leave it at the distribution center and you can pick it up. It doesnt need to make one try at your home first.

UPS, and if you have myUPS, then I think you can.
Exactly, have to be a myups member. I love that feature cause the center is right down the street from me but my regular driver doesn't stop here till the end of his route... so by having them hold it, I can pick up my packages at 9am instead.
Can I still pre-order and take advantage off the $200 off. What I'm going to do is upgrade my phone line that I have now and pay T-Mobile $200 down and $23 a month for 24 months. If yes could you please explain how the process works. Thanks In advance!!!
