So my Unlocked Note 9 works great on Verizon Prepaid, however, it does not work on the Verizon MVNO Red Pocket Mobile. This would have been great to know before purchasing a 6 month plan, but alas I am stuck. The sim works fine in my Moto G5 plus, so it has to be either Samsung or Red Pocket causing the problem.
Red Pocket has no specific APN settings for their Verizon plan, and Network mode says "LTE/3g/2g (auto connect)"
The device switches between full bars and no service. When there are bars, it says "device not registered on network."
Customer Service is confused and useless.
Has anyone else experienced this issue with their device or know how to fix it?
try this?

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately those functions do not work without the device being seen as registered on the network, and network unavailability prevents it as well
Are you SURE you're on the CDMAV plan, not CDMAS, GMSA or GMST plans? The Moto G5 Plus would work with any of the 4, but a locked Verizon Note might not (I've heard Verizon changed their locking policy to be more restrictive with the Note 9, but may be mistaken).

I am positive. I checked, rechecked, and triple checked with CS agents over the course of many hours. It began with an imei verification in which they said it was compatible with cdmav, and ended with them saying that my device was not compatible with the cdmav plan and them hanging up abruptly.

I had the same problem with my factory unlocked Galaxy S9. I found others with this issue here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/help/unlocked-s9-register-verizon-mvno-t3768141
Someone posted somewhat of a workaround here which I did successfully for the month I was on Redpocket:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76313042&postcount=18
Fortunately I still had my Pageplus SIM card available to do this trick. Any time my phone was rebooted I had to go through this process.
I am having the same problem with my unlocked s9. It is really annoying.
If anyone knows what Red Pocket can do from their end to fix this, please let us know.

Update: I have traded in my s9 with an unlocked s10+ and put the cdma sim. It works now! Hopefully, it will also work with future updates!
Possible Solution for Red Pocket-Verizon Problems
POSSIBLE SOLUTION!! (YMMV)
I had a similar problem when I upgraded to Android 10. I no longer had CDMA as a choice for Network mode. Here is the solution that worked for me:
Step #1:
Go to the phone dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
This will bring up a new screen
Select "Phone Information"
You will be greeted with a scary-looking screen with lots of stuff
Scroll down and look for "Set Preferred Network Type"
Select "LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)" from the drop-down
This will give you phone service... but not data.
STEP #2
To get data services, you will need to create an APN.
Go to settings/connections/mobile networks/Access Point Names
Click on add and enter the following:
APN Name: Verizon
APN: VZWINTERNET
MCC: 311
MNC: 480
Authentication Type: None
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
I found that this APN worked for me... (YMMV)
Hope this is helpful...
Yes, it's working for me -

Thanks mm_hockey! Your steps worked perfectly on my Red Pocket Verizon (VZW / CDMAV) S9+. After upgrading my phone to Android 10 and (at the same time) switching from carrier (but not ROM) unlocked SM-G965U to ROM-unlocked SM-G965U1, my previously working Red Pocket service and SIM stopped working. But now it's great!

Yes, this was very helpful in getting my phone fully working again with LTE service, MMS, and phone service. Thank you!
Just to expand, from previous discussions I had with tech support I added some info to the APN settings in addition to what you had. I'm not sure what is and isn't necessary, but everything works with these settings and I'm afraid to remove any line to test that out.
MMSC

APN type

Also, my "Authentication type" is set to "not set" instead of the "none" that yours is. Probably doesn't matter but I thought I'd mention it.

Hate to bring this thread back from the dead, but this is the only information I found on this issue.
I'm trying to get this exact thing working on my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 9, however the indicated special number to dial doesn't seem to do anything. Did it work exactly that way for you as specified?

Hi,
Can someone please shed some light on my problem.
I ordered an Atrix HD from eBay, thinking it was unlocked but later found out from the buyer it was locked. No big deal I thought since I was going to use it on Straight Talk's AT&T compatible sim and ST said phone DOES NOT need to be unlocked for features/service to work.
Well, right out of the box with an activated ST sim I started up the phone, never got to the "sim card unlock" screen as I thought I was going to get though I inserted a "foreign carrier" sim, but rather went straight to Home Screen. I made a call, sent a text . . . all good. However, internet and mms not working. I cannot connect to the internet at all. Phone doesn't even make an attempt, no error messages, just a plain "no internet connection" message the second I press anything that needs an internet connection.
Spoke to ST for hours trying different APN settings, nothing works! Used wi-fi to download app "tweakker", tried those APN settings as well, still no internet. ST has no other solutions for me. They are clueless. I once again asked, could it be because the phone is LOCKED? And once again they assured me it should not make a difference since they use AT&T towers. I tried using an app called APN Backup and restore, but I cannot use it on my phone though it is running ICS 4.0.4 and no "3rd party changes allowed" popps up.
My phone has the AT&T APN settings as default and are locked I can't delete or edit them. I CAN however create new APN's which I have multiple times, saved them, booted up and selected them. They are still there after a reboot but still the phone seems not to even recognize them being there.
I even tried a factory reset, thinking it may solve the problem but to no avail. :crying:
Today I contacted Motorola. After 2 hrs on the phone with them, still back to squar one. They had "NO IDEA" as to why I couldn't connect and why my phone couldn't accept the new APN's. So Straight Talk couldn't help me, Motorla said, "send us the phone and we can see if there is something wrong with it and you can have it back within 3-4 weeks(!!) or "learn to live" with the phone as is!"
So, after a lot of reading through online forums, searching for answers, I am left to wonder if my phone is acting the way it is because it is not an UNLOCKED PHONE. (Could the solution really be that simple???)
The people I have read who have an Atrix HD with other carriers besides AT&T seems to have no problem with their phones. However, it doesn't say if they bought unlocked versions or not.
I am now turning to this forum as my last cry for help. Can someone PLEASE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS FOR ME???
** Do I need to unlock this phone (I have no issues ordering an unlock code and getting a T-mobile sim to do this) in order for the internet to work?
** Is the phone not recognizing the APN's because the phone is technically locked? (Even though Straight Talk says their service should work on a locked phone).
** If I do get a T-mobile sim and try to unlock the phone, will I get the "sim unlock code" screen, because it sure isn't popping up when I insert my ST sim.
(What good is an unlock code if I can't get to the "unlock code" window?)
Any answers are appreciated.
Thanks!

** Is the phone not recognizing the APN's because the phone is technically locked? (Even though Straight Talk says their service should work on a locked phone). Unless the SIM is unlocked is may be stuck on the AT&T APNs. Might as well try unlocking it with a service.
** If I do get a T-mobile sim and try to unlock the phone, will I get the "sim unlock code" screen, because it sure isn't popping up when I insert my ST sim. That's how mine is. I SIM unlocked the AT&T model for T-Mobile US in this way. I didn't have to change any APNs, everything worked off the bat.
(What good is an unlock code if I can't get to the "unlock code" window?)

Thanks for your reply . . .
I will try to unlock it as soon as my T-mobile micro sim arrived. I am surprised that you didn't have to enter any APN settings for T-mobile though. Why is that? I thought that you always have to adjust the settings for the specifc network you are using. Did your internet work right away? Did you get the "sim unlock code" screen when you first popped in the T-mobile sim? Just curious so that I know what to expect when I get my own T-mobile sim.
I have really bad reception where I live and unfortunatelly it is only At&t's towers I get any bars with , thus I am stuck with either full price AT&T or Straight Talk since they use AT&T towers.
Thanks again. I appreciate your reply.

Wow . . so you are saying you just popped in your ST sim and you were up an running just like that? Why isn't that working for me???
Can I ask when you purchased yours? Was it before they came out with the OS upgrade? You are the first person that I came accross that have a locked phone like myself with ST service. But yours is working! So what the heck is wrong with my phone? At first I thought it was not working because the phone being LOCKED but now that I see yours was working fine I am starting to wonder if it is MY phone that has a problem. Or could it be a corrupt sim that is not connecting with the towers? When I asked ST that question they said if the sim wasn't working correctly I wouldn't be able to make calls either, so they stand by their card. hmm.... If you have those settings I appreciate it:
This is what I have tried so far:
The standard APN settings that come with the sim card:
Name: Straight Talk
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port: http:mmsc.cingular.com (with // after http
MMSProxy: 66.209.11.33 (also tried mms2.tracfone.com)
MMS Port: 80
I also searched the internet for a tons of other options, leaving proxy blank, inserting "default, etc" under APN type . . . I tried A LOT and still nothing..
Using the app "Tweakker" I got these settings which I also tried with no luck:
They require two APNs
Internet:
Name : Straight Talk
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port: 80
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MMC: 410
APN Type: default,*
For MMS:
Name: Straight Talk MMS
APN: att.mvno
MMSC: http:mmsc.cingular.com (with // after http
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MMC: 410
APN Type: mms
So . . .if you have anything different . . .please share so that I can try your version.
Thanks for your help!

So I recently bought a new Galaxy Note 3 T-mobile variant on craigslist to use on my AT&T plan. The phone is perfect, I love it! The only problem is that I can't seem to connect to LTE after I unlocked it. I have already rooted the phone using CF Auto-root, and then I turned to unlocking it. I heard that the "Region Lock Away" app by chainfire removed the region lock as well as unlocked the sim, as long as you reboot later. So thats what I tried first rather then pay for an unlock code.
Now when I bought the Note 3, it didn't include the sim card from T-mobile. So I did the whole process of rooting and unlocking under my real att sim card that I was using with my Nokia lumia 920 (I know it was time to upgrade). I went to an ATT retail store, and I ended up talking to a service rep and explained that I wanted to use my Galaxy note 3 on their network, and that I would be unlocking it when I got home. She convinced me to give them the IMEI number on the back of the phone to "provision the network to my phone".
Well after the Region Lock Away app did it's thing, I no longer had the sim card ask for an unlock code and I was able to text and make calls. So I figure that I was fully unlocked. But my data wasn't working, so after a bit of research here at XDA I noticed that I needed to change my apn settings. So i used these as suggested by another post:
NAME: ATT Phone
APN: phone
MMSC: http[colon]//mmsc.mobile.att[dot]net <-- XDA thinks I am posting a url!
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att[dot]net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
After setting these, and then using them, I can't find any data connection at all. Can anyone shed some insight as to what may be the problem?
BTW: the legacy wap.cingular apn settings are working for me but I only get about 2 Mb/s max. Which is not what I want from an LTE phone obviously.
The only thing I noticed you did not mention is "authentication type", which needs to be manually set to None. I come to the note 3 from an AT&T galaxy s4. I was using a t-mobile custom rom on it the whole time, every time I reset the ROM I had to manually add APN settings, authentication type "none" always had to be selected along with the rest of the entries. If you don't manually set this it will read "not set".

Settings are right as I compared them with my phone. Only thing I can think of is the rep didn't configure your account right and LTE is not enabled. You can log onto your att.com and check to see if your sim has LTE activated. You would see something like DataPro 3GB for Smartphone 4G LTE or whatever amount of data checked on your line. If not your LTE is not active it won't work no matter what APN settings you use.
Edit; this is what authentication type should read instead of default "not set".

Thanks for the replies!! Well I went in to the att store, and spoke with the same person who switched my IMEI number into the system. Looks like two things happened, first my data plan was switched from a 3GB LTE data to a media plan which was causing me to recieve text messages complaining about my data usage and stating $200 charges. To remedy this we had to make a call to the dreaded at&t customer service center where my Rep. was put on hold for about 30 min (ridiculous...) and also the charges were removed. I also had her switch the IMEI to the Galaxy S3 that I previously used before I got the sudden death ****. So after all that, my data has finally connected and im getting about 7MB down which is still only HSPA+. So the only thing I have left to try is maybe some other APN settings (suggestions here????) or maybe try a new simcard and use the unlock code I have.

Searching for the AT&T APN setting led me to this thread.
After setting all the APN settings as others, I was still getting pretty slow connection speed.
Then, I switched the Bearer to "LTE" type and voila! I started getting the full LTE speed!

You can only do this if you know your in a LTE supported area otherwise you will not get any data if your in a 4g or H+ area with the bearer set to LTE only.

These are my new working APN settings. 4G LTE completely working on AT&T

I find that no matter what settings I use on the APN (working ones, I mean), if I have Wifi on, I lose LTE. As soon as I disable Wifi, even if I don't move the phone, LTE comes back. Not that it matters, I just like seeing that little 4G LTE icon.
My guess is that your WiFi is set to take priority over mobile data. There might be a setting to change this though. For example in the WiFi settings there is a toggle that allows your phone to automatically switch between WiFi and mobile data, to have a seamless browsing experience.
I'm on lollipop running the Echoe ROM on my sm-n900t and I use the download booster to boost my speeds by using both together.
Can't now find a thread here that told how to change APN settings (I saved that link) for T-Mobile. My problem is making a non-TMobile phone work for wi-fi calling, and I'm asking if changing APN settings has anything to do with that. Several TM agents have told me unless it's their phone, it won't work on wi-fi, but I still find this hard to accept. I popped in their SIM card and it worked great on the network, but when I came home to wi-fi, no dice. Any ideas? Thanks! (Of course the phone is wi-fi capable and was used as such with my previous carrier)
Try this:
Use the settings listed below to create the proper hotspot-hacked-APN for T-Mobile:

I firmly believe it has more to do with being baked into the T-Mobile firmware. I've seen & had many issues myself regarding unlocked phones and WiFi Calling. I had trouble on my original One Plus One, have issues with my current BlackBerry Passport which supports it (but we don't sell it), and various Unlocked Androids from a range of different manufacturers & carriers. I've also lost WiFi on T-Mobile branded phones when I've rooted and flashed custom non T-Mobile based firmware.
However, there are A LOT of menus hidden on the Note 7. Try this out...Go to the Play Store & search for QuickShortcutMaker. The icon is yellow/orange with a hand shaped in an L pushing a button. Download and open it, you'll see a huge list of applications. Scroll until you find Phone and you may see 3 applications that say phone. You'll click on the one that says "com.android.phone" below it. Keep scrolling until you see the options in the screenshot. Click on them, then hit "Try" and it should reveal the hidden menus. Those ones highlighted state VZW & WiFi/Advanced Calling so they may reveal a switch to enable.
When I hit Try it won't open but I have a T-Mobile model so let me know if that helps!

Has anyone in the US bought this phone? AT&T can't activate because they don't have the right (size I guess) SIM for this phone thus couldn't activate.
Anyone have this same issue?

That's BS. I slapped my nano SIM into my US XZ1C with no problems. The phone then asked to search online for the APN information. It downloaded it all with zero effort on my part and everything worked 100%. I've had this SIM card since at least the Z3 time. Go to another store, have them replace whatever SIM you have now with a nano SIM, go home and install it on your phone. Don't give them any explanation for anything. You need to replace your SIM with a nano SIM and that's it. You'll get signal automatically, but not data. Just Google AT&T APN settings and enter them if your phone doesn't offer to download them during the initial setup. I get LTE all over town, although it shows the 4G icon instead. I can send/receive SMS, MMS, and calls normally.

Ok I'll do that. I'm moving from vzn to att and was trying to set up account over the phone. The rep first told me it was a 2G only phone and they don't support that. Then after I told him that his own website said the IMEI number was supported he came back with the SIM statement. I even said "it's just a nano SIM" what's special... Anyway useless to argue after some point. I'll just go to the store tomorrow.

Go to a different one. It's a miracle that rep even knows what a phone looks like. "2G only phone"
Went to a store this morning and got it to sorta work but I'm only getting H+ on my phone, not LATE. Any thoughts?

have you looked at the APNs? this is most likely the issue.
this phone technically supports all ATT LTE bands.
you may also have to set your "Preferred Network type" to LTE preferred
I am still using my old AT&T SIM from years ago when it was originally a Micro SIM. Just carefully cut the SIM down to the appropriate size and it works fine. I have the UK version and have no issues so far.
As for the H+ only, it may be due to the IMEI not being recognized on the network carrier. I haven't experienced this issue, but from what I've read online, you can ask the AT&T rep to register your SIM using a phone's IMEI that is registered with AT&T. Not sure how that works, but it's what I've read on other forums from people with the same issue.
I've used APN settings on web and confirmed the SIM is compatible but still not getting LATE speed. Open signal testing in various locations at best are 5-6Mbps.

I believe I read somewhere that there is one band that is unavailable on the XZ1C in the United States. Could that perhaps be the band that covers the area or region that I am currently in?

the only band i know of that has been in question is band 12. i think most ATT LTE takes place on band 17, which runs on almost the same frequency as band 12. this is likely not your issue, but i can dig a bit deeper. this mostly affects people using Tmobile, like myself.
i'm guessing you have one of the international variants?
that last link you sent was a dead end for me (your entries on that site did not carry over with the URL). what was it you saw on that site that was of potential value? you can send me a screenshot if you want

How would I tell? I double checked my order and confirmed it's "supposed" to be a US version and I don't have a fingerprint security option.
I doubt the resolution will be good enough to read, if not follow that link and apply filter Texas and Brazos country. It is a list of frequencies in my region. I don't know if it's of any real value or not just searching.
I really appreciate your help!
One last thing... My phone hasn't downloaded any at&t bloatware. Not even the myATT app. I don't know if that adds any clues

sorry to bother, would you mind sharing the APN settings you have?
also, any other network settings that might affect connectivity? our friend in texas needs some help getting his LTE going.
ALSO... my XZ1C shows LTE when connected to it. are you positive you are operating on LTE? is there a chance you are connected to it but not using it? network speeds?
thanks in advance!
Just left AT&T again and no better.
There are two APN settings that are on my phone. (1.) ATT Nextgenphone
(2.) ATT HSPA+ ***this was renamed from simply ATT by the guy messing with my phone. Originally it was just ATT***
APN Settings
1. These APN settings result in no data connection what-so-ever

Somewhere on the AT&T website there was detail referencing the 9th and 10th digit of the SIM being certain numbers. Whatever it was my SIM is compatible.
Looking for the specific langauge I happened back to this site and now I'm worried I've got no hope. Here is the link but I've attached a screenshot of the concerning statement.

Waxys....are you saying you don't have LTE either?
So I have an AT&T branded, carrier unlocked, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 model number SM-N960U and I'm currently using Straight Talk as my carrier with a SIM card that uses AT&T towers. Voice Over LTE is disabled on it for AT&T towers and I've been trying off and on every time I get frustrated with my backup phone's cracked screen to find some way to make it function again but to no avail.
Anyone know of any magical fixes for this? I've done quite a bit of searching for answers and I've tried a bunch of things but not come up with any real fix for the problem...
Things I've tried include multiple different APN settings, turning on VoLTE Provisioning manually by dialing ##4636## (VoLTE Provisioned is grayed out with AT&T sim card but not other carriers cause of course it is), I've called Straight Talk and had them do whatever it is they do on their end multiple times with no success and unfortunately the only carrier we get signal with in my area is AT&T or I would be happy to just switch to a Verizon SIM. I also tried looking for a way to root the darn thing (and tried using the rom I found in another thread here to change it from N960U to N960U1 but mine must be on a different update than that rom) cause I'm sure with access I could bypass all AT&T's crap but my security update is too recent to allow for root access so I'm worried it may just be stuck...
Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm so frustrated with this phone I'm half tempted to chuck it out my window lol.
Hi, @cloudyrei
I am currently on Old Folks Cellular/Consumer Cellular with an AT&T sim.
Had to change sim cards after the recent 3G shutdown because IMS no longer registered.
Are you using a launcher that can access activities on your N9?
If not, please download Activity Launcher from the F-droid store. I use it on N9 and N20U.
In the Activities menu, please search for: "Call Settings" - this will be found under Call Settings (com.samsung.android.app.telephonyui.hiddennetworksetting.MainActivity) and create a shortcut
"Mobile Network" - this will be found under "Settings" in Activities (com.android.settings.network.telephony.MobileNetworkActivity) and create a shortcut
"Phone info" is also listed under "Settings" in Activities (com.android.settings.RadioInfo) and create a shortcut
Please open "Phone info" and select "LTE only" at the "Set preferred Network Type."
This menu also shows Data network type and Voice network type, which should display "LTE."
On my N9, the "Call Settings" will not have anything selected underneath "Network" or "Band Selection."
Hopefully, you can access your mobile network settings for Straight Talk via "Mobile Network."
Then check settings for your SIM card status in "About phone."
Oh! Thank you for that app! That helps a lot so I don't have to type that string into the dialer every time!
Unfortunately this is what I'm looking at with LTE only selected and I also went through the whole list and tried every one of them just in case and they all look the same only with some variation in signal strength but that's about it...
You are welcome, @cloudyrei, and so sorry that I couldn't help you.
Please set your phone back to its original mobile network settings.
Please remove your screenshot because it has your phone number and other info on it.
Is your phone on Android 10, One UI 2.5?
I looked around for Straight Talk's (AT&T) APN settings, and found this:

Before tinkering with your apn settings, you may want to contact Straight Talk to confirm you have 4G LTE.
I had to contact the service provider for a new sim card because it would not register the IMS.
Here's the settings on my N9:
Oh heck you're right! I thought about that maybe having my info on it awhile after I put it up but forgot to go back and check! I haven't gotten any weird calls yet at least so woo!
Yes my phone is on Android 10, One UI 2.5
I reverted the mobile network settings and tried the other APN and it does make it so the mobile data works, however, I still can't make phone calls or text.
I'm sure I have LTE as all of the things function normally with the sim in the backup phone with the cracked screen I have, It's a Galaxy S10.
Here's my settings in the Note 9 as of now. I cropped out the part with my number and such this time lol.
Are you turning off the power in your N9 when you place the SIM card in it, @cloudyrei?
Thank goodness you did not receive any strange phone calls. lol
Does Straight Talk send you a "configuration message" via text for your APN, SMS, and browser settings when you place your SIM in your N9?
I do not download the configuration message for APN, SMS or browser settings.
I noticed that downloading each one changes the default SIM.
If you downloaded the configuration message settings, you could try setting it back to the default settings for your SIM by going into "Settings," "Connections," "Mobile Networks," then "Access Point Names."
Then reset to default by clicking on the 3-button menu.
Please power off your N9 if you reset the SIM.
Remove SIM, wait a few, Insert SIM, then power on.

If this doesn't work, I hope someone can help you.
I had to request a new SIM from CC after the 3G shutdown.
The IMS would not register on the N9 or N20U.
The SIM card I had to replace was originally used in an unlocked Galaxy Note8, which was on Consumer Cellular network with a T-mobile SIM.
The new SIM is an AT&T SIM.
I remember reading that some N9 owners had problems after the 3G shutdown and had to get a new SIM.
Then, I tinkered around with the "Phone settings," (from Activity Manager's shortcut) and set it to LTE only.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I bought my sister a Note 9 specifically for the deprecation of 3/2G.
Verizon finished sunsetting their towers recently and now my sister's N960U cannot even connect to the towers that would send config messages. And "VoLTE provisioned" is not enabled.
This sim works in other VoLTE phones and gets provisioned. Its only the N9 that won't provision.
One thing I noticed was the IMEI number under Phone Info is one number off from the IMEI that shows under "About Phone" is this normal?
I would figure that the IMEI should be complete in "Phone info" and maybe thus us the reason why Straight Talk can't provision VoLTE?
@rjones97
My apologies for replying so late to your questions about your sister's Note9.
Were you able to receive service with Straight Talk for her phone?
Unfortunately, we haven't. Straight Talk support is assuring me that everything is configured correctly on their side. The last thing they did was submit a report to Verizon about the account. They said to expect a reply the next day, but nothing came through.
Hi, @rjones97
Is your sister's N9 unlocked?
If your sister had service w/ Verizon/Straight Talk before Verizon ended service for 2/3G, you may want to ask if they will send you another SIM card for her Note9.
I had to get another SIM (AT&T) from Consumer Cellular because the IMS service would not register.
Or you could try these settings on this webpage to see if her phone will work.
