Anyone having issues with their screens?
I have a red tint near the top right corner.. the bottom left is more bright than the top... it appears like a gradient accross the screen... noticable on dark greys... What should I do? is it a defect or are all devices like this?
Help please. any inputs will be appreciated.
How low is your brightness and is it set to adaptive?

The brightness is set to full, adaptive is off. When set to full, the tint is low but noticable.. when set to 50% the tint becomes more prominent.. and I do not have a problem with the tint.. it is just that it is not uniform.. the top right is tinted while the rest of the display is not.. it is really disturbing when reading an email or typing in landscape.
I think color uniformity issues are quite common on this device. You see some threads on reddit and also here on xda about this issue, most people have some sort of yellow or red tint on parts of their displays. The display of my Nexus 6 is a bit more yellow to the lower right of the screen, however I really only notice it on higher brightness with darker colors in apps like Google Camera or the Material Dark keyboard theme. It used to bug me in the beginning, but I somehow got used to it. I don't see the need for an RMA and get a potentially worse device with other defects as mine is perfect otherwise.

I was thinking the same.. it doesnt bug me that much. but when it comes to keyboard on landscape and specially the google camera dark grey background.. i can clearly see it... otherwise my device is perfect. I read a lot of articles too.. the device is expensive and at such a price getting a flawed display is unacceptable. My main question is are all amoleds like this.. because I had a galaxy s3 and it had a perfect display with no tint. Are all nexus 6's suffering from this problem or is it just a defective batch that is affecting some people. ? My device is just 2-3 day old so I can get a replacement.... although I am hesitant to do so..

I know the feeling, when my device was just a few days old I freaked out like this too. It's hard to justify at this price point but the truth is, no device is perfect. I went through several N5's back in the day and none of them were perfect, most of them had a few dead pixels, creaking body or even dust particles in the camera.
If you say your device is perfect otherwise, won't you rather live with such a small and hard to notice defect than going through a cycle of potentially worse devices? If you ask me, don't go for a replacement. But in the end it's up to you.
Getting a replacement.

Here my vendor is sending me a new device. A box packed one. It should arrive in 2-3 days. The tint on mine isn't noticable when the brightness is above 70% , but I cant use the phone continously at night at such high brightness. Besides the tint is so bugging me when reading anything.. browser, play books.. the uneven color temperature from top to bottom.. it is really annoying and considering that I have paid so much for this I wont settle for this. Lets see how the replacement is, I'll post when it arrives.
Got my replacement.
I got my replacement yesterday. THERE IS NO TINT. BUT. the display has a vertical band that is noticable at time. Well, I can put up with this atleast there is no uneven color anymore. I cannot describe how awesome it feels to use a flawless / near flawless display.
Got my Mi 8 from chinese aliexpress seller last week and noticed right away after turning the phone on that colors look washed out. Did some more testing later and noticed that some parts of display are really unevenly lit when using brightness under 50%. Also it has visible vertical lines in low light and low screen brightness. I get color banding in almost all gradients in images. I compared Mi 8 to Nexus 6 that I have been using 4 years now daily and the nexus screen is far better than mi 8. No banding, colors look great and I dont even get any uneven areas in low brightness.
Has anyone had any quality problems with mi8 screens?
I am yet to get response from seller. I would have bought the phone from local store with better warranty but they are yet to get any phones in stock.
My device is also affected by vertical color banding, more people have this issue.
Could give some examples?

May be a faulty display. Other people had the same problem:

I have not had any screen display/quality issues with my Mi8, however i have the newer 8gb/128gb phone version. There was a test done on the Mi8 screens, and they are Samsung OLED screens made by Samsung -the same ones in their phones (just cooler color tuning through software). Here is an in-depth screen review on the Mi8:

I would have to agree that you probably have a defective unit, or maybe you have a refurb/repaired phone that they replaced the screen with a cheaper version?

Sorry for not posting anything regarding my screen situation. I have been contacting last 3 months every week to Aliexpress support trying to get this solved, seller won't respond and for some reason I can't get warranty, they wont tell me why. My old Nexus 6 died a while ago and I had to use this piece of crap now. Below you can find picture regarding the problem. Its not glare from external light - screen has this inequality and banding can be seen too. Compared to my nexus 6 of course. Both phones at ~50 % brightness in complete darkness.
I might try sell this phone for as faulty or get some kind of compensation from seller and then buy 6T. No more xiaomis' for me.

I have in the past used Note 1 then upgraded to Galazy S4 and now Note 9. When I tried all these devices in store before buying. Their screens appeared to be excellent. But once I bought them and used them for a few days I slowly started to see issues with screens. The note 1 I had slowly developed this redness on right edge of the phone over time visible only on grey background under low brightness. I got it replaced 3 times but then gave up. After that when I switched to S4 it had this reddish top and greenish bottom visible only on low brightness and white or light grey background. I got it replaced once and again got a similar screen with the same issue plus overall slightly yellowish tint on the whole screen. So once again I gave up and was using the same device from past 5.8 years. Now when I tried the Note 9 in stores i just loved the screen and ordered it. Now after using it for a few days I find on light backgrounds that the screen is slightly brighter at the bottom than the top. In fact it's like it's whiter at the bottom than at the top. I was thinking are there amoled screens which have uniform whiteness/brightness across the screen. In all other aspects the screen is perfect to me but this issue once I know it's there is somewhat annoying to me. How is your screen ?

dont think they had oled on the note 1 or s4 yet. but i can assure you that since Samsung made OLED, these screens are the best out there. and to tell you the truth, any 2018 screen would trump what you may have experienced in the past.

The note 1 and s4 both had super amoled screens. The screen on note 9 is certainly much better but not perfect as I have mentioned in my first post.

Most people wouldn't notice.
I've had a SGSII, a Note 4 and I'm currently using a Note 8. All of SAMOLED displays have been really good with no issue as you have described.

You do know that Sony is failing in the smartphone department right? They currently in the same situation as LG. Unfortunately, the screen won't save their smartphone division.
Edit: Playstation is where Sony gets their money these days. Sad to see.
"A growing thorn in Sony’s side is its mobile handset business which counts its revenue, primarily from its Xperia line of handsets under the Mobile Communications segment. Sales of $6.88 billion were down 5% from the previous year and the group posted a loss of $255 million.
The mobile communications group guided to a further 12% drop in sales for fiscal 2018 and a projected loss of $138 million. The group does see some light at the end of the tunnel – 5G wireless technology."
They gave been losing money year over year, quarter over quarter man. Their lack of innovation is dragging them down like LG.
By the way, last edit. Sony didn't make that OLED screen. LG Display did.
Displaymate rated the Note 9 as having the best display ever on a mobile phone. Just as they did for the S9, and Note 9 before that. Pretty much every new top of the line Samsung device trumps the best there was before it.... and the best there was has pretty much always been on a Samsung device. Sammy makes the best displays.
In any case, you can find other very good displays on other phones that look pretty much as good, but when a place like Displaymate puts a "best ever" sticker on a device's display, it is for a reason. Note 9 display is not much different than the Note 8 display for instance, but it is enough of an improvement to warrant the top billing from Displaymate.

that article never named its source. could have just as well been sony propaganda. love how the article starts with " claims a survey.." of what? 2 or 3 clueless dudes? Maybe Karandeep Singh got payed a couple of rupees..or even a sony phone out of it
edit:
and now since what's on the internets is always "true", people acctualy believe anything nowadays if its well framed and worded.

Actually,it appears to be nothing more than a marketing company hired by Sony:
https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/legal/testresults/xperia-xz3/
https://www.strategyanalytics.com/
https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=1051783
All companies on this level tend to use such garbage "research" for marketing, all claims like this should come with an e-coupon code for a pinch pound of salt.
What's worse is peeps getting their panties in a wad, feeling the need to either rationalize their choice in phones, trolling those that have "x" phone,& the fanboi behavior that's fueled by the fluff articles.
The Note 9 is a nice phone, got one myself.
Is it the absolute best out there? In the eye of the beholder & nothing more.
Others choosing something else is equally fine, one would be hard-pressed to actually find a truly terrible phone w/o intentionally seeking one out.
Note 9 earpiece smudges won't go away
Hey I guys I bought the note9 from 6 days ago. One day I was just rubbing the top bezel ( the space that has selfie camera, iris, led, ect) suddenly I saw 2 smudges, one above the earipeice, one under. I kept rubbing it and it doesn't go away. I believe that maybe when I was rubbing my hands were sweating so water entered beneath the glass. Here's a picture I posted here so maybe you'll get what I mean. If anyone has this issues or fixed please share it here. If the attachment is not working please say.
Thanks

Take it back & exchange for a new one.
Any attempts to fix it on your own will likely make it worse.
Don't waste a minute waiting for home remedies here, utilize the return/exchange policy for a free replacement before that period expires.

All note 9 owners can you please open any site with white background in google chrome and when the phone is held in hand in portrait mode do you see even slight difference between the white levels at the top and bottom of the screen. Please reply. Its very slight but its there.

I opened Samsung browser with no tabs open white screen. Slightly yellow or warm color. Looks pretty even but if I were to be extremely critical top side is a more darker maybe.
The white is definitely not like the note 8 white . Using amoled photo with slight blue light setting.

My Note 9 has an even white color across the whole screen. It also has a bit truer whites than my Note 8. Part of that may be that my Note 8 is now a year old, but overall I believe Samsung tuned the contrast down a bit on the Note 9 from the Note 8. Just to be clear, I am using the exact same display settings on both phones.... so I am getting an accurate comparison of the Note 9 vs Note 8. There is very little difference, you'd have to literally be looking at them side by side to notice the slight difference.

looks as if you have a glass or plastic film. the cutout of the speaker is to high for it being the original glass
Compare home screen icons on the note 8 and note 9. Let me know what difference you see. I see the note 9 not being as sharp. But then on the same token , the note 9 like I said earlier is more natural and appeasing to the eyes.

Exactly that is what I am trying to say. The screen is beautiful with the best whites I have seen on a amoled screen and its pretty even as well. But my eyes seem quite sensitive to screens and I also feel the top is somewhat darker.

Recieved my brand new redmi k20 pro and the first thing i notice is a slight reddish tint mostly on the middle area which shifts as u change the viewing angle, the lower part of the screen has no such shifting tint issue , does anyone else have this?
is it worth going through the replacement hassle? since i ordered from MI.com i dont know how easy it is to do?
Yes mine does exactly the same.
Sad but true: quite a few units suffer from this kind of issue, and also from not uniform brightness across the display.
The point is that a lot of people do not notice it and another lot decides to ignore and accept it, so nobody knows exactly what is the actual percentage of defective displays.
This is what I gathered so far investigating about display issues on Xiaomi phones.
My Moto Edge 20 unit came with yellow edges on the display all around apart from the bottom edge. Not a big issue, but noticeable enough to annoy me on content of a solid color. It's yellow much like how older iPhones used to be shipped with yellow edges, the picture is roughly how it looks on my display. I used it for about 3 months and it didn't go away, so is there a way to fix it? My guess is that my best bet would be with a UV lamp of some sorts, but maybe some people here can confirm that. I cannot return it and I probably cannot send it back to Motorola since it's rooted, so my other option would be selling it, which is my last resort. Any advice would be very welcome.
Edit: I should mention that it's very slight. It's only noticeable if you know it's there. It's maybe 1/3 as bad as in the picture, but it bothers me.
Hello there, this won't help, but I cannot see any yellow edges on mine. If it's there I don't see it.
However, maybe this is an issue with your screen and you may ask for a replacement?
Have you seen it on any other Edge 20?
Update: I found that using one of those dead pixel fix apps from the play store helped with the yellowing of the display. After about 4 hours of "curing" the phone with one of those apps, the yellowing slowly started to fade. It's not gone, but it's better than it was. If you have an issue like this on any phone, try this trick before RMA-ing it.
