(please help) - data not working while on hotspot - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi helpful people of xda,
Long time lurker but having come from a Samsung where everything 'worked' I'm feeling a bit frustrated with my new p20 pro (as nice as the device is).
Issue is simple. When tethering via hotspot, data on my phone does not work so WhatsApp and slack / email aren't pulled through. When I turn hotspot off, everything comes through.
Having searched for others having this issue one suggestion was to delete apn details, however the hotspot apn doesn't show up.
Any ideas? Help much appreciated

With things like this it would be handy to state your region and which firmware/update you have installed.

Oke, i just tested my hotspot and everything seems to work fine. I connected my tablet and did a youtube stream while i used the phone to send whatsapp etc and all flawless. im on CLT-L29 with 8.1.0.159 C432

My wifi won't retrieve ip adress.

Since a couple of days ago my wifi stopped retrieving ip addresses from any network. It says retrieving then it starts over. I have searched and the only thing working is to assign static adress. Though this is only a available from home. Never had this issue before. Using cm7.1.

i have the same problem since i am on miui...at home i have 2 wifi point,i can get the connection with only 1,with the second i can't obtain the ip adress ,i have tried 3 different kernel but seems a rom related problem.

[Q] htc 8x phone software update issue

I have htc 8x unlocked. Whenever i click on phone update option, it shows an error like " we are currently unable to check for update error (80072ee2 ).
i tried it on different times. But the error was same . Can somebody help to fix this issue. ??
Yep! First of all, don't post multiple times. There's an Edit Post button for a reason. Worst case, just reply to your own thread. But asking something like "can somebody help" is pretty silly; it's assumed that if you're posting here with a problem you're asking for help.
Second, have you tried actually doing a search about your problem? http://www.bing.com/search?q=80072ee2+"windows+phone" It might just be a connectivity or DNS problem, too.
Third, try reading the fum rules, so that you know these things beforehand!

I found my problem was proxy on wifi
i had set proxy on my Wifi but i forget to turn it off

WiFi gone..

Hey there. Had a strange problem, happened 2 times till now. WiFi was completely gone, went to the settings/wifi and wifi was still on, but the list of AP's/Networks was completely empty. Anyone had that happen ?

I've had the saved Wi-Fi connections be forgotten after a reboot/shutdown. Happened this morning actually.
I have tons of wifi problems, but not this one. My wifi takes a long time to come on after being turned off, often more than a minute, and the wifi setting pages hangs.

This can happen if you have multiple devices. The wifi password file acquires multiple entries and the phone fails to pick one. Longstanding bug Google is ignoring. If you have a rooted device you can read the wifi supplicant file and see the multiple entries to confirm this is what's happening to you.
This is happening to me more and more on my Nexus 6. I'm rooted and stock. Haven't found a solution yet.
My WiFi situation is a disaster with nexus 6 too. No problems at al
l with nexus 5 and nexus 7 (2012)

Stuck on Checking for Update after a hard reset

Hi, this is my first time making a thread and I'm not sure if this fits into the right category, anyways I've had to a factory rest since I forgot my pattern password on my Note 9 (because I'm an idiot) and now after the hard reset I am now stuck on "Checking for Updates" after the rebooting the phone and there is no skip button and I have tried doing another hard reset to still being stuck on the same page. I've let this "Checking for updates" run for about 2 hours to only get a message saying "Taking to long? Try going back and connecting to a different network" and I'm really out of options, any help would be appciated.

Do you have Internet access and sufficient bandwidth where you connected to?

I think you can log on to computer and your Samsung account and use an option within findmyphone to fix this.

reminds me of my LG v20 which had similar problem (910K B50) Stuck on firmware upgrade and waiting for connection. Nothing could be done for the LG, hopefully yours can be fixed. It either a virus or interrupted firmware update don't know what else could've done it

Well I'm currently overseas over at China with very slow internet also not sure about the Mbps since its to slow to run that and I have to use Vpn since China blocks out YouTube, Google etc. so I'm not sure if that's that cause.
*edit* I've managed to run an internet Speed test with an average Mbps download of 0.30 Mbps and upload of 2 Mbps, not sure if that's any useful but hopefully it is

This phone is relativity new I've only had it about 3-4 weeks, plus aren't you able to run it in safe mode?

nope nothing could be done. no safe mode, no download mode, nothing. going back to the same screen. I even gave the phone to 2 different places to try to fix it and even they couldn't do it, saying there is no file system no structure or anything. so yeah dead weight

I don't think Samsung would drop there standards, could a low internet connection also cause this continuous thing to never end?

not Note it was LG v20 . looked like similar issue that's why I posted and also as I said dead weight nobody could do anything.

I have an identical issue, on my note 8, and i am also in China. wondering if there was any solution found?
I suspect the problem might be because china blocks Google services and the phone is trying to connect to google.
Please if a solution was found, do share.
I assume you've all tried setting up without a sim and wifi disconnected? Works fine for me, it just skips the update checking on initial setup as there's no connection.

I've had the exact same problem on my galaxy s8 and had excellent wifi connection when I tried to get it going after the reset (but still tried to do it with two other connections). I removed the simcard, disconnected the wifi and it just skipped that step (looking for updates). Now the phone is working good!
(still scared that the virus hatched on once again since I didn't wipe my SDcard and put it in again (stupid). But I'm always a bit paranoid and I'm not sure it works that way)
Fixed the problem anyways. Just remove simcard and disconnect wifi.

This is how to fix the problem if overseas
number one If you have hard reset your phone, and then realised I need that VPN to go online like myself in China.
turn off the WIFI on your phone, remove your sim card turn off the phone. turn your phone back on and you can set up the phone again, turn on the phones wifi and re-back up your phone from your Samsung account.
the reason why you should use Google and Samsung to back up all your things is for this reason. you don't need a VPN for Samsung.
this should work on all phones.
mine phone is a Samsung note 9 with android 9 operation system, 8gb -512gb

Problem with bluettoth and Amazfit GTR

I'm with problem with my Samsung Note 9 and my Amazfit GTR. I'm already in October patch but the problem persist. I can't update firmware of smartwatch or change watchface because always fail.
Anyone have the same problem? Can be a physical problem with my device (because usying another device from my mom or my sister work without problem)?
PS.: My device is Snapdragon(SM-N9600), I already made a clean install and a hard reset too.
Amazfit GTS - Note 9(Exynos)
I have the exact issue with Amazfit GTS and two samsung Note 9s (both exynos versions)
The watch seems to be working fine with iphone 6s(BT 4.2) and XS (BT 5.0), so it seems to be an issue specific to samsung.

I just played around with it again and found out why it is rebooting again and again. So you should not just rely on the amazfit app to connect you need to go to bluetooth setting on ur phone and scan for the watch and then pair it from there as well. Now i can change the watch face, uodate firmware and etc without it rebooting everytime..... Enjoy

Confirmed working. But had to enable discoverable in the app. Had no such problem with the S9.
I am facing the same challenge, the Samsung Note 9 doesn't support this watch that well. I cannot sync the watch face, I cannot update the firmware for more than half of the things I cannot utilize my phone. I tried to connect with my Samsung Galaxy S8 and everything works so smoothly. My watch keeps crashing when it is connected with Note 9. They have to fix this major bug.

Today I could finally updated the firmware in my Note 9, it looks like @archproject comment was well explained or Samsung and/or Amazfit fixed the problem.

I am still having the problem. If I pair it via the app, I wont see it in the Bluetooth menu to pair it , and the other way around, if I pair it via Bluetooth menu, the app does not see it.. BTW Amazfit support is clueless. They said that I need to return the watch. They did not even ask me what phone I have.. I really wanted to like it,, but not as much as to change my Note 9 to a the phone that works with this watch.

Just have to reset the GTS as default and connect to bluetooth and after words connect to the Amazfit app and update sucessfuly and now I can also change the watch faces without error.
