Using Nexus 6P charger for Mi A2 - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

Hi, my previous phone was Nexus 6P, can i use 6P charger as fast charger for Mi A2 since its output is 5V-3A ?

Yes. It will eventually indicate it's charging rapidly in the lock screen.

Can it be harmful for battery health?

No, the Nexus chargers use USB-PD for fast charging, which is the USB C rapid charging standard and shouldn't be harmful.

Charging nexus 5x with 6p cable/wall charger

I got a new nexus 5x and I don't have the original wall charger.
I was thinking to charge it with the cable/wall charger that came with my 6p.
I was wandering weather it would be safe to charge with the 6p charger and if there are any differences between the two chargers.
Thanks.
They should be the same.
I am currently charging my 5x with my 6p charger with zero issues.
I had to borrow a coworker's 6P charger for my 5X and I charged to 100% w/ no issues.
I sold my 6p but kept the charger. used and compared it to the 5x's. they charge at pretty much the same rate. it just depends on thermal throttling and heat on how fast it charges. all good and nothing to worry if you ask me ☺

Why do you say that? Do you know something that the class would benefit from?

Look at the "what's in the box" in the Google store for the 5x and 6P. Both have the same 15W (5V/3A) charger listed.
There is no difference between the chargers.
So as long as the Watts, volts, amps are the same I can use any (non cheap) wall block? I have TONS of Samsung wall blocks and just bought 4 USB type c to a cords...still only have 1 wall block. Can I use the Samsung blocks?

Take a look at the article below. Yes, you can. However, it won't charge as quickly if it's a Samsung quickcharge charger. What really matters is that your cable is compliant. There has been enough talk on this board about that already.
Personally, I have four different chargers that I use. All work well.
1) The original one that came with the phone.
2) An old 1A charger from Samsung (non-quickcharge). Doesn't charge quickly. I use it over night.
3) A wall outlet with a 2A USB plug built in. Charges pretty quickly, but not as fast as the original charger, which puts out up to 3A.
4) iXCC dual usb 4.8A 24W car charger. Puts out 2.4A to each port and charges my phone almost as fast as the original charger.

non-dash charging?

Am I right in assuming that I can charge the phone with any old usb charger and usb c to a cable? Would like to be able to have a spare setup plus I travel to mainland Europe quite a lot so would need a different charger there.

Yes, it would be a problem if that weren't true.
So you are saying that I can (but won't get the speed)?

It works perfectly fine with the charger of my old ASUS Nexus 7.
Charges fine plugged in to the USB on my laptop at work, just a lot slower as you would expect.

using the old oneplus one charger shouldnt be a problem then right?
whats more healthy for the battery, dash charging or charging it slowly (old/different charger + random usb-c cable)?

Charging a lithium battery slower is always better.
Do you need to use a non-dash usb-c cable to use other chargers? I tried it with the dash usb-c cable but my old Samsung charger and powerbank do not work.
in general i also think its better to load with lower speed - therefore i bought a additional loader with 2A. But i read somewhere, that the DASH charging will not heat so much. How this should be possible if this is true?

Dash charging does not heat up the phone because the needed components for high-speed charging are in the wall adapter itself.

ah okay, so for batterie its better to charge slowly - but for the smartphone itself dash charge would be better? i guess i will load my phone anyway only if really needed with dash

Original Charger vs Quick Charger 3.0

Original charger hits 1700mA while Quick Charger 3.0 hits 2300mA. Screenshots below. I'd like to know if anyone else has done a similar test so we can compare results. I bought a (supposedly) Quick Charger 3.0. The results are obviously better but I'm not sure if its supposed to be higher or not.
SD660 can even do Quick Charge 4, but for Mi A2 officially only in india.

Global version might need a patch.
This this means that we can use Quick Charger 3.0 or 4.0 without harming phone's battery?

Mi A2 has official support for QC 3.0 (and 4.0 in India only). Of course you can use it without any harm.

What brand/ charger are you using for QC 3.0?
That was my doubt too, the global My A2, perfectly compatible with QC3.0, without causing any damage to the equipment, that was my fear, but now ready, subject clarified ... I use QC3.0 Lenuo.

JC

Can you post a screenshot of Ampere with both chargers so we can compare?
Is this compatible Anker Quick Charge 3.0 ?

with Ampere app......QC 3.0 should be floating between 2000-2300mA

Exactly! i really don't know how that works.. Does that mean that the original charger is somehow a quick charger?
Empirical evidence suggests that Oreo seems to show "charging rapidly" anytime amperage is above 1 amp or so, it has nothing to do with using a quick charger or the original brick supporting quick charge.

No guys. I found:
0 - 999 mA = charging slowly
1000 - 1499 mA = charging
>> 1500 = Charging rapidly
Not sure if MiA2 use the same parameter.
Nice, I was gonna say 1500 cause that was kind of what I remembered but wasn't totally sure. 1.5A is typically rapid enough to charge with relative speed even while the device is in use which is probably why that was picked. I agree that they should probably provide a reading above 2A to signify quick charging as "charging rapidly" is definitely confusing.

charger

in the box, redmi 6 provides 5V 1A charger, which is too small and slow for me. is it save if I use other original xiaomi charger from other device/series (such as redmi 4 series which have 5V 2A power)?
For me slow charging is perfect for battery life.

yes
Unfortunately, our devices have limited charging to 1A. The use of higher current chargers will not hurt, while the charging phase, unfortunately, will not accelerate :/
But remember that's a good point for battery life.

What? Is the Redmi 6's charging speed limited to 1A? I thought it could use 2A like any modern smartphone

differences between wall charger and Anker powerbank charge times

I got an Anker USB-C PD 10k watt charger for Christmas. It seems to charge my phone multiple times faster than the wall charger included with the phone. Is this due to the PD protocol? If so, could I expect a PD wall charger to do the same?
Sorry, seems dumb but wasn't sure if something else factored in
Were you using your device while it was charging? As that could have an effect on your device's recharge time.

If you are using the original N9 charger with adaptive fast charging, then the max rate is 15W, the same as via any PD charger.
Observed differences could be because of screen on, battery level, and temperature. Or could also be a worn out cable.
