I'm using another LOS 16-based ROM and thinking of switching because the gaming performance is rather bad. Is it a common issue in LOS 16? Also, scrolling feels choppy. Again. Common issue ?

So you're using an extremely experimental Rom, on an older phone....rocking an Exynos chipset for that matter (known for having sub-par gaming performance in the 1st place when compared to Snapdragon).......
Point is....based on your situation don't expect great gaming performance. If that's really what you're looking for get a newer Snapdragon phone.

I didn't expect it to be great. But decent for a not so demanding title.
And I wouldn't call a beta version "extremely experimental"

Potato potahto. "Extremely experimental", or "beta"; however you choose to acknowledge it, the Rom is unofficial and not yet ready for prime time (and likely never will be due to the age of the device). Petty semantics aside, I've already explained why your expectations were too high. Older handset, dated chipset, unremarkable GPU, experimental software....ect. It's really not that difficult a riddle.

great work keeping the s7e alive. thanks.
anybody used a dual speaker mid with this yet..better still is it available on this rom?

What about bugs? I can't read on the OP if there are or not XD

Since all Pie customs roms are based on LOS 16.0, you guys don't need to always ask the same. Simply check the LOS16.0 bugs here.

Don't know, you need to ask to Ivan Meler (I recommend not to bother him with that kind of questions). Ivan is the only developer (one man show) for s7 & s7e, so you can expect slow (but real) developement & of course because he do this as an hobby. So if you guys want to speed up the process, just buy him a couple of beers, coffees...

[ANSWERS] All the answers

Hey there,
xplodwild here, I did the announcement session at BABBQ, it was awesome. Thanks for everyone who were there.
So yeah, we didn't prepare a lot of YouTube demo videos yet, but all the information about the philosophy of Omni are available on Omni website: http://omnirom.org/why-omni/.
We are a ROM different than others: we are focused on performance, cohesion, stability, innovation, code quality, community and open source. And the community more than anything else. You are using the ROM, you should be choosing what you want to have.
When we're taking a patch from another ROM, we're trying as much as possible to enhance it before merging it. When we're getting new features, we give you a way to give early feedback, early access to prototypes, early access to mockups, etc, so that we know immediately early on if we're doing it right.
All the contributions will be GPL licensed (at least we'll be pushing for it). People will be able to vote up and down on patches,
Some of the key features of Omni:
Flippable Quick Settings
Roadrunner mode
Multi-window(!)
Daydream enhancements
Integrated Performance Control
Multi-workspace
Color-changeable, 3D depth Phase Beam
And a bunch more
We're also pushing non-Android stuff, such as OmniInstaller (an all-in-one, multi-platform, open source, installer that anyone can plug in), as well as a Qt library to give Qt Android apps a native Android look, and have gorgeous and super-fast Android apps. We're helping users, and helping developers.
Everything is free, free as in money, and free as in liberty. And transparent.
Edit #1: Regarding device support, we currently support all the Nexus devices, as well as the Oppo Find 5, Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet Z. We have preliminary support for the i9300 as well as the Oppo R819.
Edit #2: We'll have a bunch of developer resouces up soon, giving a head start to newcomers in the Android development world.
I probably didn't cover much things but I'll add more things as they come to my mind. We're having beers here and I'm probably not fully able to do a comprehensive post right now.

NIce! Does that "multiwindow" works flawlessly?without breaking apps?
I'm overjoyed to see you guys bounce back after the Inc debacle.
Looking forward to compiling, testing and enjoying Omni.
Are you guys going to kang features from other ROMs (Halo and Pie from PA for example) or will all features be developed in-house?
Also, on which Android-version are the first builds based? I guess 4.3.1?
Since the annoucement of Cyanogen to be a corporation, I was searching for a new AOSP-based ROM for my daily needs, and I think I found it. Good luck guys!
I m dying to try this rom.
Would it be possible to port it using cyanogenmod or aosp as base?

It will do pretty much. We'll get sources up very very soon (ie. minutes), and gerrit is already live where you can see the MultiWindow patch being reviewed and improved.

In the spirit of open source, if there's something that gives positive improvement on the user experience, and it can be introduced, and people want it, it will be included. There's a balance between "settings inception" (ie. a toggle for your toggle, to toggle text alignment of the clock) and something that isn't customisable, but that will be open to much wider discussion and consultation.
4.3.1 is the current version in use, yes.
Halo and Pie are 2 specific examples, but this is where the community comes in - porting these features should be fairly straightforward. We like to try improve things too where possible

The ROM is based on AOSP, and full sources will be posted today, meaning you can try to build it for yourself. Be aware though, not all chipsets are currently supported - nexus devices will have more luck than other devices for now, but that will obviously change in the coming days and weeks.

I don't believe anyone has one here for testing, hence it has not been listed yet. it WILL be supported, but until it's been tested, it won't go onto the list
Have the additional selinux commits CM started picking a few months ago been picked here also? If so, would make getting a build up for the Sprint and Verizon GNote 2 much easier Now it's just a waiting game for source to drop.

We've not focused yet that much on SELinux, as generally we believe that features like this should be introduced once the tree is stable enough.
There's still work needing done for SoCs (like Exynos!), but once we have the ground work covered, make no mistake, SELinux will be in and securing. Until then though, it will not be a number 1 priority (not to say nobody can go fix it!) - that's the glory of open source
Hurray!
a small query,do you plan to include support for legacy devices?(for example, the video encoding/decoding patches for msm7x27/7x27a)?
Currently,no roms support this by default.
Great News.

Makes sense. I use modified CM trees to build for PA which doesnt have that extra selinux stuff so building should still be pretty painless I hope. Last question, let's say I wanted to add PA Pie support in an aio patch or so, would I just push to gerrit and from there the core team and users vote on it? Considering its stable and working fine. How will that work? Thanks!

Yes, we intend to include legacy device support as a key feature. I'll go into this in more detail later, but this was one of our founding "aims".
Provided compatibility for legacy devices can be implemented "neatly" without impacting other devices, it's actively encouraged
Custom ROMs were meant to extend the useful lives of phones, not leave phones dangling without support
hikarugo said:

Roadrunner was the "speculated" feature name for a previous version of Android where some people suggested that it would improve battery life, and add better power profiles and management.
Roadrunner was something Xplod is working on, but it aims to make it possible to easily and quickly bias your device's configuration for performance, or battery, or a balance between the two.
On a modern device with 4 cores, and 2.2 GHz CPU (or whatever), this is frankly excessive for simple tasks. OEMs usually excessively prioritise performance so their device feels "snappy", leaving battery performance poor.
Roadrunner lets you reduce "raw" speed, but gain better battery life.

I will try to get @PecanCM involved, as well as the members from androidarmv6. They'll have a few patches to push up
Because we use different sets of qcom hardware sources, can I ask for them to be able to be fetched from different github users/organisations, just to keep the source code tidier?

poor custom rom support why?

I don't mean to offend any developer with my questions
-Why after a year from the release of this phone
There are few roms (mostly unofficial) with more or less the same bugs?
-Why there Is no official support for the most famous roms? (lineageOS, crDroid, pixel experience)
- why some Devs moved to Telegram?
-what are the difficulties that the developers have encountered with this phone?
The pe Dev said it will be official soon

I dont have this phone yet. I have a Mi8.
But here is my guess.
They probably dont have full access to source code yet
They are young, but able students so their time is limited.
A lot of the users are highly entitled and dont appreciate their hard work and rarely if ever, make a donation to them so why bother.
Rock Star developers from the past are burned out on making roms, and too busy with professional life projects.
As I mentioned I am considering this phone, and do not know anyone her yet. Hopefully the best developers stick around and build a legacy and loyal/supportive followers.
If you have not tried Xiaomi.EU its pretty fantastic, It's like a much more westernised version of Miui with the most annoying bloat and adware completely removed.
@tsongming has a great point and I'll add that for android 10 there are at least these:
LineageOS 17.1 Unofficial
Evolution-X 4.0 Unofficial
Havoc
Extended UI based
Derpfest
Bootleggers
Paranoid Android Quartz
Pixel experience
and also all the miui variants
As the name says, it's custom, 3rd party, there's no obligation for anyone to make it. Developers make what they want to make. Especially since it's not a paid work, it's totally their choice. Just appreciate that there are some available and give donation if you use them.

The customs that are avaiable, unofficial or not almost all use the same source... thats why they have basicly all the same bugs.
But why they moved to telegram? some off them are fed up with people complaining, although its free off charge and they all do it in spare time. I dont know iff this is the case for majority but for some this is the case.
But i also regret its moved to telegram
But the source code is released only lately so now devs can build better, more stable roms..
Keep in mind i am not a dev off any roms provided above

wow, new rom in 2020 for G6. Thanks so much!!!
...
Whoaa.. Official? thank you.
wow, this is absolutely wonderfull! I opted for the OpenGapps pico for android 10.
Installation went very smooth and everything seems to work except for the camera: when switching between the front and back camera an unexpected error pops up and the camera app crashes. After that the phone gets hot and reboots after a while. I also wasn't able to find a switch for toggeling between the standard and the wide angle camera? I have tried a GCAM port (6.2) which worked after I turned off google lens suggestions. It didn't crash but couldn't capture video and lacked also the option to switch between the two main cameras.
AOD works but only at the maximum brightness. Would be great if that could be improved to be able to switch between modes.
edit: not sure if there AOD is on the most faint setting. There isn't automatic adjusting when lightconditions change (stock rom did)
so far: very impressed with this rom! I will try some different camera apps, will report back if I have found something that works with all the cameras with no bugs.

this is cstark27_GCam_5.1.018_24_v4.2. Works like a charm!
How is it working BT calling, battery life, phone call clarity, and does it heat?

Heat dissipation is with the metal body of LG G6 so you will feel heat on any rom with your hands. If you cant feel Heat on the metal body - its very bad, because main chip loses his contact to the metal, and will throtle very fast. So no need to ask about it in any Rom related thread.

This version is not going very well in my h872, in the main camera everything is perfect and fluid, but in the front camera the images are blurred. I use HyperCam_R6 by jairo_rossi
For me this is the best rom for the G6, I have tested it for 2 days now and it works perfect, very stable no problems at all and very good battery life. Thanks!!

After reading a bit, it sounds good! Though I wonder if it has more customizations than LineageOS, as I know LineageOS is basically cyanogenmod but I have noticed there none of those cool features cyanogenmod had in the newer versions of LineageOS.
I had never read about it before, but it looks like it could be interesting

/e/ isn't for customizations, they're more concerned about security/moving away from Google. I've used it before & the customization features are minimal, nothing more than Lineage.
That being said, it's a great ROM but I'll probably stick with @html6405 build of Lineage instead.
Thx for your answeres,
I'm curious how the rest thinks about it.
Thank you for your hard work to create great ROMs.
I am more looking forward to get Android 10/11 than /e/
Yes, I want /e/ as I'm moving away from Google.
I've setup a little netbook as a local Nextcloud server already, so having /e/ on all of my devices would be great!
Ok,
I will wait until next year, if we have more interested persons than 4 (like now ),
you will get it.

Hopefully people are interested then! I can't hardly wait to try out /e/
Google needs a huge reckoning, and the more users running non-Googled OSes... the better!
e would be great but is ubuntu touch possible ?
Yes - I would be interested to try. I looked at /e/ and it did look promising.

Anyone think it is a good idea of making Android 11 based /e/-foundation rom for those needed?

This would also be possible, but I don't know when they will start to publish /e/ on android 11 based and for this, I first have to bring LOS18.1 stable.
/e/ would be great! Heard about it recently and it sounded like something i would appreciate. The less google the better...
I also want to seize the opportunity to ask if there are any plans for making roms for note 5100/5110/5120. From what i understand it is basically the same device as Note 10.1, but smaller (it's Note 8.0). Amazing little thing! But alas, stuck at LOS14. Which works great, btw, spinning fast and glitch-free, but the further android development seems dead.
Lots of sad users on the forum, including me.. (i do own a N8000 too tho..)
If you could find time for porting some of your work from N8000 to N5100, that would be realy awesome of you! Especially since it probably wouldn't take all that much time since what i understand the devices are practically identical.
You would make plenty of people happy and i would of course donate directly!

A bit offtopic but still: the SOC is indeed the same as in most Exynos devices from that time and which is the least problem as the issues have been solved for those other devices, but then there is a lot of differences in the hardware. From touchscreen, display, multiple sensors, one of the cameras and the charger those are all different, probably more parts as I only quickly looked over the hardware details, and this is where quite some work is hidden.
Aside from that, releasing a ROM without having at least one device for testing locally is not really feasible. It's not automatically that if it builds it also boots and/or works, that would be too easy.

I'm sure that it would be 100% possible, but I don't own this device,
like Don Carnage wrote it wouldnt make much sense just to build anything without the ability of testing it.
If i think about, I know that at least I would have to overwork the existing sensor hal, maybe audio (if its also different), some driver's and much more.
I already thought about this some month ago and tried to buy a used device, but they are very rare at our location.
If someone would donate a device, I would try it, only then it would make any sense.
But yes, this is OT here, but you can write me a PM if you want to know more.

Well I would be glad to test for you! I can't donate my device, as I don't have multiple of these though... but I can possibly send you logs.
You can post it as an "untested" ROM on the /e/ forums BTW. Maybe others there would test for you. I'm actually testing an "untested" /e/ ROM for one of my other devices. So far that ROM looks pretty f**king awesome! I get better battery life on it, and there's an even deeper control of privacy over LOS.
I don't know, but maybe you could order one from eBay? I just did a search for "n8013" and found a few listings like this one for example... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Ga...sh=item3ff2ab2fee:g:~wwAAOSwiSpgCKcN&LH_BIN=1
As time goes on, I have come to hate and despise Google. They've been doing evil things (Project Veritas has plenty of evidence of this) and Android is becoming more and more locked down/proprietary with a "look, but don't touch" attitude. Even Samsung has just recently started barring third party replacement parts too, joining Apple in this greedy "planned obsolescence" mantra! These older devices without all that crap IMHO are just getting better lol. Yes, they might be slower; but at least we still keep useful legacy features and we can tinker with our devices a bit!
I'm wanting to rip out as much Google as I can from my life and have ownership of my data. I've already taken some steps towards that goal, as I have obtained an old netbook that I've repurposed as a local server.

This was ment for n51XX devices, but anyway, maybe it would be good to start build /e/ based on android 9, because it runs very smooth and on android 11 I still have much more work todo.

Thanks to the people that donated for the device and thanks to @npjohnson for all the testing and figuring out some issues.
Brilliant work Mike thanks so much for this!
And i thought the RP2 was dead. Thanks bud!

I might have jumped the gun creating this thread, build will be probably available on Sunday :/
Considering RP2 loyal have been waiting for a bit for any kind of official custom ROM support, I don't think an extra week will hurt us. Nice work

In my testing, at least, both calls and media audio syncs up to what it would be on the speaker latency wise.
Never spent time on stock, and don't know your headset/codec combo, but I'd bet it will!
By the way RGB leds work with Magisk for root and LogoPlus app, I'll take a look and see if LogoPlus can be converted to system app and built inline so it doesn't need root.

Sounds great!, I wonder however, did you use the stock razer libs or other libs for the camera? As with the stock libs theres terrible ghosting in 3rd party apps in the viewfinder (which I "fixed" by replacing them with razers android 8 ones)

Stock has noticeable bluetooth audio lag when playing games. If you play Mario you hear the jump sound while you are in mid air. I tried several different headsets, including Razer ones and the were all the same. Videos were fine.
I heard people had success going back to Android 8 but i didn't try that. As for the codec, as far as I can understand, changing it in the dev settings does not work. I believe the option is there but doesn't do anything.
Really excited for this rom!

Thanks for all your work!
Does NFC work here? I'm asking as NFC currently doesn't work correctly on Android 11 GSIs.
Thank you for your job! Any chance to get Arter97 kernel, f2fs and exFAT support?
