Hi guys had my note 8 since release and had burn in 5 times had the screen replaced .on the 5th time I got a brand new note 8 in the box.been using it for 6 months so far no burn in was happy .but foolishly was reading an xda thread about grey and greying colour uniformity of note 8 / 9 So checked my scrren on a grey background in the dark and can see a lighter coloured band vertical top to bottom .never noticed this before .and now I know it's there I can see it on the homescreen and everywhere there is grey or grey like colour. Do I need to get the screen replaced or is this normal?
Am I being ocd
I really don't want to have to have this screen replaced as the Samsung service centre keep cracking the rear glass when they swap the screen and they end up giving me a blank rear glass ,not nice and the replacemt screens are never better.
First 2 pics are the note 8
Second 2 pics are my old note 4 I notice the note 4 also has that vertical band on the
Screen in the same position
Here is a pic of my badly burned in note 4
It has that same line vertical on the screen like my note 8 but not as visable
Excuse the duplicate thread not sure why that happened.please delete the other thread mods thanks
I would replace it if I was you. About the back panel, that's really sad. Currently there are not genuine back cover replacements for the Note 8, just some chinesse knock offs made of plastic or bad quality glass. You could get a dead Note 8 for 30 or 50 bucks on ebay with a mint condition genuine rear panel.
So your saying my new note 8 screen is also defective?screen number 6 this is gonna be a nightmare if you think I need to have it replaced again.also showing the kids that work in the shop will be impossible as it won't be visable in the store lighting
Any other opinions guys
can you post the image you used? I can try it on mine.
Sure here is a dark grey image go in a pitch dark room and take a look brighmess around 5 to 10 percent .but even upping tge brighmess near the middle you can still see unevenness

You Need to be in the dark bro to check grey screen uniformity
Is my screen normal or is it defective and need a another screen replaced?
I tried with the image posted, in total darkness,, bright level from zero, 5, 10 20 %, and no, nothing shows, pure plain uniform dark gray
I'm going for another screen replacement in this brand new note 8 replacemt. On around screen 8 or 7 I think.ans the second brand new full phone replacement. I must be the most unlucky person here

Hi Guys,
After hearing so much problems with the Note screen, I had another good look of mine tonight and found these weird looking white lines/dots at the bottom left of my screen.
Are these dead pixels or stuff underneath the screen?
HELP Please.....might have to get an exchange with handtec...so much hassles....
Those look like stuck pixels to me.

You have taken a pic with the default scratch guard on just remove and slightly clean the screen and see if it goes away, but most probably its 2 dead pixels, mine 1st one had 1. Quality issues with samsung !

I'm pretty sure it's not between the screen and the default protector....where did you buy yours from?
Seriously...I'm very disappointed with Samsung now....I mean, I have heard many people having problems with their screens, but never thought I would get one of them defected ones....
Looks like dead/stuck pixels I'm afraid.
Can you get a macro shot? It's kind of hard to tell without a closer view. When I've had stuck/dead pixels in the past, they've always been very discrete, tiny dots without any haze or blur, which it looks like yours has. I also wonder if it's something to do with the screen protection film. When you do a macro shot will you lift it and clean the screen?
Here....I have lifted up the screen protector....I didn't take off the screen protector was because maybe if I didn't handtec might exchange me the phone quicker....but what the heck...I need to be sure anyways...so here are the pictures.
Man.....so much trouble for this phone....very disappointed with the build quality of the screen now....
Now I will have to wait for a while to get my exchanged new phone ....
Any ideas how long it might take? I read on handtec that if the item is returned after 10 days...it will go under warranty and so does that mean they won't exchange my phone straight away??? Anyone got any experience with them??

nuh...I have tried to count them...there are a least 4 dots plus a line....very strange....they are also bright green instead of being white.....can't see them with the black background....
Shows you how bad of quality the phone I got....
I am very surprised I have not noticed them before.
Just found out online...there is a difference between stuck and dead pixels, and apparently stuck pixels can possibly be fixed yourself...might give it a try....
nuh...none of the apps seem to work
Been using JScreenFix for the phone for about half a day....just flashing the screen.....
I think the pixels have gotten a bit darker......don't know if it's my eyes playing tricks on me or not....but will continue to flash the screen for the rest of the day and then check it again tonight....hopefully then will be gone
The thing I don't really get is why the green dots (more than 3 of them) would only appear on Green, White and Grey backgrounds, and not appear on the Red, Blue and Black Backgrounds.....Anyone got any ideas?
because every colour of the spectrum uses green except for red, blue and some combination of red blue
black is when the screen is off

Hi there. I just bought the Note few days ago and I can confirm that I have the EXACT problem as yours. Except mine is just a dot. It's like a pixel that seems to be the only brighter pixel when the screen displays full green, white or grey background (specifically used the LCD test *#0*# & Burn-In Tester Pro app).
I assume that it is a stuck or a hot pixel simply because.. it lights up. Unlike dead pixel is like.. a dead bulb/pixel (Assumptions. HEHE.)
Actually on the day that I bought the Galaxy Note, I was really careful. I even dialed the *#0*# LCD TEST at the shop to look out for screen defects. It was FLAWLESS. So I bought it. And I have this habit to look out for defects even after purchase, so I always go to the LCD Test and Burn-In Tester Pro app to check, and is still perfect.
Not until, last night, I dialed *#0*# and hit "Black (Vibrate)" with the intention to check for the "blemishes/blobs" in a totally dark room. It was only apparent after my eyes had adjusted to the darkness and I do see the not so obvious blobs. So after noticing that, it didn't bother me so I happily watched an Blu-Ray quality video (Despicable Me) and that's when I noticed the BRIGHT pixel which I assume it to be a STUCK/HOT pixel. I hope it is just a stuck pixel which hopefully can be fixed over time. Don't know about hot pixels..
Right now I'm playing a Full HD video of a downloaded YouTube video called Pixel Fix, on loop, with Video Brightness set to full. My instinct says to try it out but i do know that after awhile, since it's an AMOLED technology, colors could be darker over time as the pixels slowly 'burn-out'.
AND if it doesn't work, I might try to turn off the phone and leave it somewhere really cool/chilled. And switch it on after awhile when it reaches room temperature. I read it somewhere that it works to remove stuck pixels. They put their phones in a fridge in a wrapping and they said it worked. I forgot though where I read it from.
Oh, it's this one --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21025093
Someone managed to fix a dead pixel. Hmm, but it's a phone with an LCD screen. Nyeh.
Good luck to us. Man, it was only few days ago when I bought the Note. *sniffs*
Seems quiet here. Seems like not many people have or aware of this bright spot defect.
But I found this which seems to concern about the matter. http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/7955151.html
I guess it gives some idea of what it really is. Cheers.
And I am gonna let this 'problem' go this time cos it's so small but I do hope that it won't get any worse. Or if it fixes itself that would be a miracle

I am on my 5th note now. Had returned 4 before and taken my money back. But this one I won in a contest and paid just abt 105$ as some tax. This one has no lines or very very faint ones visible only on light grey color but u have to really look real close and try to find then only u c em. Which seems perfect BUT this one has horrible screen unevenness. The top left corner is reddish and bottom right is greenish. And just tilting the phone even slightly causes the green tint. While working in portrait mode also I feel the left is warmer and right is cooler. All this happens only on very low brightness, as i increase the brightness the defects become very less obvious but i know they are there. Now i am really confused whether to go for another exchange as i am really tired of the exchanges now. Plus what defects m gonna get next i dunno. Please advice community members?

Update 2 Feb 2012:
Got the fifth one exchanged now on the sixth one and this one also has reddish top but bottom is fine. Last one was from OCT batch and this ones from Jan 2012 Batch.
I got my notes exchanged as follows:
1. Bought the 1st one and had a stuck white pixel in the center of the screen rest all was fine with very faint lines. At that time I dint know of other issues so after 2 days I got it replaced.
2. The second one hand no dead pixel but had this grey smudge marks visible everytime in every condition. So Came to know of 2 problems a dead pixel and grey smudges. Again got it replaced.
3. The third one had horrible visible horizontal line visible at all brightness levels. So I returned it and got a refund. By now I knew of 3 defects dead pixel, dark smudges and damn horizontal lines. After I returning the 3rd one I checked the pics of my 1st and 2nd note and found they also had these lines but very faint and not bothersome.
4. Finally won the 4th one is a samsung contest. It had image burn and also they gave me a used phone so returned it and got a sealed replacement (OCT 2011 Batch).
5. The fifth one as stated above had this horrible top reddish and bottom greenish problem plus the viewing angles were horrible, just slightly tilt the phone and the screen gives a green tint way too unbearable. So returned that as well for an exchange.
6. Now on the 6th one. It has faint line have but not something unbearable so a non issue for me. Theres no dead pixel, or green tint on screen tilt and colors also appear more natural than being cartoonish. But even this one has a reddish top which is visible on grey and brown background though the bottom is fine. The reddish top is even sometimes visible on white background in browser with low brightness. And if I dont see the reddish top then the top of the screen appears darker than the bottom.
SO Would you guyz recommend me to go for another replacement or keep this one. Also FInd the Pics attached of the latest one.
Maybe it's time to get a different phone in all honesty...
Guys this thread is updated please see and reply. Thanks !!!
Ok. Is anyone facing screen issue on your P20 Pro? There seems to be a gradient colour shift which is very obvious in a dark room when the brightness is set to low. Plus it has a green hue to it. Have a look at the picture attached. Thank you.

Ok going by the screenshots is moon+ reader
I tried it for myself and with brightness turned down to zero on phone and in the app i can also see a very slight hue.
But to be honest, i am much more comfortable reading with some background light so i can at least distinguish something of my environment , and then this is a non issue.
For completeness i took a screenshot with my camera , and it's way worse then what i could see with the naked eye.
With the naked eye it is noticable , but not so bad as the camera makes to believe.
Anyway , a non issue for me.
And since my and your screenshot are suffering from the same hue shift , it might even be a problem with the moon+ reader.....

Thank you very much for following up. It happens in the gallery too. I've tried it with different pictures that have solid colours such blue, red, green, grey, etc. Do you think the warranty covers intentionally? I bought the phone with full of excitement while I was in Singapore for a holiday. I love this phone so much but the screen is bothering me. Sigh!

I'm pretty sure its not covered , the screen works flawless under normal conditions even in the the dark. Only when i go to extreme's like setting negative brightness levels in software the problem really shows up.
I will never have this problem unless i actively go and look for it.
same for me. the vertical and horizontal lines are not really an issue for me, i though i can live with it: i had the same on my p9 plus but on the left, there is a 2cm zone on all the height really darker and it made it almost unreadable at night (lowest light), even with screen filter or not.
i returned my phone and now i must wait to order a new one... my provider tell me they will not have twilight anymore.
i'm very disapointed.
Amoled screens are always a lottery when it comes to uniformity. Sometimes you have luck other times not. There are good screens out there and this time around I got one of the better ones. I have seen others complain about screen issues so not all screens are good like with most phones that have Amoled. Below is mine at 0% brightness and the app you used.
Mine has the issue as well. I ll be getting my device replaced soon as it also has a slight gap between frame and back panel at top left edge
Same issue here. First P20 Pro had it from bottom to top (pinky purple at the bottom, yellowy green at the top), second one has it left to right, but more pronounced on the bottom of the screen.
Is it worth replacing it again? I'm not happy with paying a significant amount per month for this if the screen is bad on all of them.
I would like to check mine. What is the best way to check this?
Update: So i opened lcd test app on my p20 pro and here's how mine looked like in the dark.
I don't know if i did it right but tell me if i need todo anything more to check this propertly.
Oh ffs, my third one has it too. Significantly green in the top left running about half way down the phone.
I've now been to the store 3 times, it's a 96 mile round trip! Nearly 300 miles of fuel wasted on this rubbish.
I get "it's a chinese phone," but we're paying Samsung prices for it, these screen issues are just unacceptable!
Have p20 pro for 2 weeks now. Always thought it's some dark theme design before found this topic. Have top much brighter than bottom in low light conditions. Can't see in bright room or in dark room with brightness more than 50%. I wouldn't be worried if it wasn't so annoying while I watching YouTube before go to sleep. Half of the screen grey, another near to black.

Thats right its not that bad but its there. Still visible on dark gray background in dark room.
Can you take photo of your note 9 uniformity? I want to compare it with mine.

using the app oled tools i can see it quite badly on gren , grey and red .... with mine its at the top .... like the top section of pixels is acting differently .... im going to take mine back because its only 1 week old ... what is it with huawei and screens ... the mate 20 pro is facing big issues with their screens
Got my Mi 8 from chinese aliexpress seller last week and noticed right away after turning the phone on that colors look washed out. Did some more testing later and noticed that some parts of display are really unevenly lit when using brightness under 50%. Also it has visible vertical lines in low light and low screen brightness. I get color banding in almost all gradients in images. I compared Mi 8 to Nexus 6 that I have been using 4 years now daily and the nexus screen is far better than mi 8. No banding, colors look great and I dont even get any uneven areas in low brightness.
Has anyone had any quality problems with mi8 screens?
I am yet to get response from seller. I would have bought the phone from local store with better warranty but they are yet to get any phones in stock.
My device is also affected by vertical color banding, more people have this issue.
Could give some examples?

May be a faulty display. Other people had the same problem:

I have not had any screen display/quality issues with my Mi8, however i have the newer 8gb/128gb phone version. There was a test done on the Mi8 screens, and they are Samsung OLED screens made by Samsung -the same ones in their phones (just cooler color tuning through software). Here is an in-depth screen review on the Mi8:
https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/editor-review/4f1676/3
I would have to agree that you probably have a defective unit, or maybe you have a refurb/repaired phone that they replaced the screen with a cheaper version?

Sorry for not posting anything regarding my screen situation. I have been contacting last 3 months every week to Aliexpress support trying to get this solved, seller won't respond and for some reason I can't get warranty, they wont tell me why. My old Nexus 6 died a while ago and I had to use this piece of crap now. Below you can find picture regarding the problem. Its not glare from external light - screen has this inequality and banding can be seen too. Compared to my nexus 6 of course. Both phones at ~50 % brightness in complete darkness.
I might try sell this phone for as faulty or get some kind of compensation from seller and then buy 6T. No more xiaomis' for me.

I have in the past used Note 1 then upgraded to Galazy S4 and now Note 9. When I tried all these devices in store before buying. Their screens appeared to be excellent. But once I bought them and used them for a few days I slowly started to see issues with screens. The note 1 I had slowly developed this redness on right edge of the phone over time visible only on grey background under low brightness. I got it replaced 3 times but then gave up. After that when I switched to S4 it had this reddish top and greenish bottom visible only on low brightness and white or light grey background. I got it replaced once and again got a similar screen with the same issue plus overall slightly yellowish tint on the whole screen. So once again I gave up and was using the same device from past 5.8 years. Now when I tried the Note 9 in stores i just loved the screen and ordered it. Now after using it for a few days I find on light backgrounds that the screen is slightly brighter at the bottom than the top. In fact it's like it's whiter at the bottom than at the top. I was thinking are there amoled screens which have uniform whiteness/brightness across the screen. In all other aspects the screen is perfect to me but this issue once I know it's there is somewhat annoying to me. How is your screen ?

dont think they had oled on the note 1 or s4 yet. but i can assure you that since Samsung made OLED, these screens are the best out there. and to tell you the truth, any 2018 screen would trump what you may have experienced in the past.

You do know that Sony is failing in the smartphone department right? They currently in the same situation as LG. Unfortunately, the screen won't save their smartphone division.
Edit: Playstation is where Sony gets their money these days. Sad to see.
"A growing thorn in Sony’s side is its mobile handset business which counts its revenue, primarily from its Xperia line of handsets under the Mobile Communications segment. Sales of $6.88 billion were down 5% from the previous year and the group posted a loss of $255 million.
The mobile communications group guided to a further 12% drop in sales for fiscal 2018 and a projected loss of $138 million. The group does see some light at the end of the tunnel – 5G wireless technology."
They gave been losing money year over year, quarter over quarter man. Their lack of innovation is dragging them down like LG.
By the way, last edit. Sony didn't make that OLED screen. LG Display did.
Displaymate rated the Note 9 as having the best display ever on a mobile phone. Just as they did for the S9, and Note 9 before that. Pretty much every new top of the line Samsung device trumps the best there was before it.... and the best there was has pretty much always been on a Samsung device. Sammy makes the best displays.
In any case, you can find other very good displays on other phones that look pretty much as good, but when a place like Displaymate puts a "best ever" sticker on a device's display, it is for a reason. Note 9 display is not much different than the Note 8 display for instance, but it is enough of an improvement to warrant the top billing from Displaymate.

The OLED screen in the XZ3 is better than the one on the Note 9 no doubt about it. Sony have actually done an amazing job and taught samsung a lesson. First shot bullseye

Here's that survey, the Note 9 is MIA, how convenient.

Can't go wrong with either, but, just wanted to post a credible link vs your inexplicable need for the attention from trolling...

that article never named its source. could have just as well been sony propaganda. love how the article starts with " claims a survey.." of what? 2 or 3 clueless dudes? Maybe Karandeep Singh got payed a couple of rupees..or even a sony phone out of it
edit:
and now since what's on the internets is always "true", people acctualy believe anything nowadays if its well framed and worded.

Actually,it appears to be nothing more than a marketing company hired by Sony:
https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/legal/testresults/xperia-xz3/
https://www.strategyanalytics.com/
https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=1051783
All companies on this level tend to use such garbage "research" for marketing, all claims like this should come with an e-coupon code for a pinch pound of salt.
What's worse is peeps getting their panties in a wad, feeling the need to either rationalize their choice in phones, trolling those that have "x" phone,& the fanboi behavior that's fueled by the fluff articles.
The Note 9 is a nice phone, got one myself.
Is it the absolute best out there? In the eye of the beholder & nothing more.
Others choosing something else is equally fine, one would be hard-pressed to actually find a truly terrible phone w/o intentionally seeking one out.
Note 9 earpiece smudges won't go away
Hey I guys I bought the note9 from 6 days ago. One day I was just rubbing the top bezel ( the space that has selfie camera, iris, led, ect) suddenly I saw 2 smudges, one above the earipeice, one under. I kept rubbing it and it doesn't go away. I believe that maybe when I was rubbing my hands were sweating so water entered beneath the glass. Here's a picture I posted here so maybe you'll get what I mean. If anyone has this issues or fixed please share it here. If the attachment is not working please say.
Thanks
Ahmed

Take it back & exchange for a new one.
Any attempts to fix it on your own will likely make it worse.
Don't waste a minute waiting for home remedies here, utilize the return/exchange policy for a free replacement before that period expires.

All note 9 owners can you please open any site with white background in google chrome and when the phone is held in hand in portrait mode do you see even slight difference between the white levels at the top and bottom of the screen. Please reply. Its very slight but its there.

I opened Samsung browser with no tabs open white screen. Slightly yellow or warm color. Looks pretty even but if I were to be extremely critical top side is a more darker maybe.
The white is definitely not like the note 8 white . Using amoled photo with slight blue light setting.

My Note 9 has an even white color across the whole screen. It also has a bit truer whites than my Note 8. Part of that may be that my Note 8 is now a year old, but overall I believe Samsung tuned the contrast down a bit on the Note 9 from the Note 8. Just to be clear, I am using the exact same display settings on both phones.... so I am getting an accurate comparison of the Note 9 vs Note 8. There is very little difference, you'd have to literally be looking at them side by side to notice the slight difference.

looks as if you have a glass or plastic film. the cutout of the speaker is to high for it being the original glass
Compare home screen icons on the note 8 and note 9. Let me know what difference you see. I see the note 9 not being as sharp. But then on the same token , the note 9 like I said earlier is more natural and appeasing to the eyes.

Exactly that is what I am trying to say. The screen is beautiful with the best whites I have seen on a amoled screen and its pretty even as well. But my eyes seem quite sensitive to screens and I also feel the top is somewhat darker.
