do i need to unlock BL? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello i dont have p20 pro yet but i am willing to buy it and i wwnt to ask some questions.
1.do i need to unlock the bootloader to root the p20 pro?only root and twrp not flash custom rom.
2. I heard the huawei shut down the Unlocking bootloader process and find some guides that asking for money. Can i do it free?
Thanks

Yes you need to unlock the bootloader to root and flash and no there is no free solution. Buy a Galaxy S9 if you can find it at the same price as it is way better than the P20 Pro.

Yeah, buy an s9 and lose warranty and many features by permanently breaking knox once you root it
It sucks that there is no free solution atm, but I am sure there will be one soon.

just search in guide and news subforum here, a lot of people shared the link already,
some got it from funkyhuawei, some from ebay, some from somewhere else,
price ranging from 20-40 bucks,
either its worth or not is up to you and the depth of your wallet, lol,
but all i can say is, unlocked bootloader is crucial for me,
will never buy a phone which not unlockable, and, rootable

Generic Z1 6906 bootloader unlock NO? :(

So I got this phone thinking the bootloader would be unlockable... To my surprise I checked and it says no. I still submitted the unlock request through Sony and they generated a code that was e-mailed to me. So confused. The phone is used so does this mean it is already unlocked?
A code will always be generated, but you will be unable to use it
Another example of a generic FW, sim unlocked, carrier free phone that has a bootloader that cannot be unlocked.

This situation can be very frustrating but actually you was not informed about that before brought the Z1, if you will know it you will bring one with Unlockable Bootloader, right? I guess you cannot go back to your provider and switch with another one. If you really give up then I will considering to buy Z2.

Well I purchased the phone used from someone who has never even heard of XDA. I got it off Swappa at a great price and couldn't pass up it being sold. I mean it is a nice phone and I love the quality of the materials (glass/aluminium). I might just root it and keep the phone. Change the stock launcher and live with it until the Z2 price drops a little.
Would Sony ever consider unlocking the Z1 boot-loader if we complain enough?

I know I don't need root for the launcher but I use Nova Launcher and that one does. Plus I like to remove pre-installed crap to make the phone faster

So... rooting in August?

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I'm struggling to find a definitive answer to this...
Now that Huawei have stopped providing unlock codes for the bootloader, is there any other methods available to gain root?

From what Ive seen, there is no definitive official way to unlock the bootloader so without lower level access to the phone. Rooting won't work.
With that being said it's certainly not impossible, but compared to other devices the Huawei devices arent going to be getting a lot of attention due to the aforementioned problem.
I read that there was an unofficial method that you have to pay for, unlocker something?
Funky Huawei may also offer some method but they have been known to offer services which means you cannot unlock the bootloader ever again so personally I wouldn't bother with them.. query them though and see what they can offer.
Worry for us who have unlocked now is. If we get an issue with our phones and we need to RMA, well never get another unlock code.
Sucks right.

It sure does suck, but not as much as being stuck with this bloatware to the point where I'm actually regretting getting this phone, I've never regretted purchasing a phone before (apart from maybe the Nokia N900, but that was donkeys years ago).
They could at least make some of the applications uninstallable.
Do you have a link to the unlocker by any chance?

Was it dc-unlocker?
I'm afraid Dc-unlocker does not support P20 Pro at the moment. I'm not sure if it ever will. I bought about 5 credits for it and when attempting to unlock I get error 375 if I remember correctly. Don't bother trying at the moment.

You can uninstall much of the bloatware using adb. Plase take a look at the threads below. I could easily replace some stock apps with my favorite ones from google play.

Then I would say with all honesty, you cannot unlock the bootloader.
Huawei may revert their decision, however unless they get hit hard on sales, I really can't see it happening.
Plus with Huawei taking this stance, the users who know how to develop and hack past the bootloader don't want anything to do with them.
And I absolutely agree with them.

OnePlus 6T or 7

Well the crappy usa and Canadian S9 doesnt have root yet almost 6 mos from dropping so highly unlikely the note will get it.
Didnt you do any research before buying bro? Its no secret that the north amercian devices have root issues since the s7.
Well wtf no I didn't know that
how can people still not know the difference between snapdragon and exynos. it's mind boggling

If you want root you have to buy the version with the Exynos chip. We have the Snapdragon variant in north America and it can't be rooted period.

The bootloader is locked, and no one can grt around that now.
They could on the s7 and s8 but even then the root was hacked and had issues.
After that locked down tight and it able to be cracked

@force70 and even when they figure out a hackish way to root a snappy, firmware updates would probably circumvent it.
on the note 8, samfail worked till U3 bootloader and they just decided to abandon the project(after 3 iterations) . so this means someone that wants root and keep device up to date will only be able to do so at the mercy of the people that create the wokarounds. if i remember correctly, samfail from start to finish lasted what, like 6 months? lol
What really sucks is I thought that buying direct from Samsung would get me the Exynos model, but I was sadly mistaken. Apparently the only way to get the exynos model is taking a risk with third party sellers which I couldn't do for something so expensive.

Unlock the bootloader on the Samsung A6?

Hi folks, can the bootloader of the Samsung A6 be unlocked?
If not, I will not buy it at Metropcs.
If it can be, does this require that I use something called Samsung Knox?

So my girl was at Metro cause that's where she was going to perform the old upgrade and she done wanted my help in picking out a phone. Like some sort of electronic Ninja, I quickly downloaded XDA and Looked into the A6 and right there before my eyes I seent some rootin and I think I maybe even saw tootin but it was when I saw custom kernels and some of dem dare custom Roms... well hell , I yelled... yippie kieyie yay! cause I know Samsungs pretty good. You see, well that's the part of the story where things get a little Dicey because turns out I didnt know a Cow Pattie from a Hamburger because If you'd seen the look on my face, you'd swear I'd seen a water skiing turtle or maybe an Alien Cow Rustler when some city boy did a Copperfield on the OEM lock in developer options. I was crosseyed because I had to keep checking because this had never happened to me before and while were on this subject Im pretty sure you would have to be a very, VERY unique kind of wanker to even think of such things and Id like to spit some Beech Nut in that Dudes Eye cause the good lord knows, hes got it cumin. Sorry for the rant but dangit you'll I should've read a little closer I guess....thanks Sammy you stole my fun switch. I'd rather take my chances and have a phone get stolen with a oem lock than to not have one at all you ol carpet baggers!!
Don't bother buying this phone if you're worried about unlocking this phone. I've wasted nearly 3 week trying to do so with no luck.

Do any one click solutions work?

I'm just about at my wit's end right now. I really want to root my phone because Substratum looks absolutely amazing but I can't seem to get any of the one click solutions to works. And I looked into some of the manual methods but they were fairly confusing.
Just look through the forum. There's a few threads on how to root this phone, and there's no other way right now...

Well, that's a shame. Seems like I have terrible luck when buying phones. Every time I get a new phone, it always ends up being one of the few phones that can't be rooted.

Well it can easily be rooted, but the part that isn't easy is unlocking the Bootloader. And in order to root you must have the Bootloader unlocked and luckily we have 2 people who are willing to unlock it for us for a very reasonable price.
