Generic Z1 6906 bootloader unlock NO? :( - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got this phone thinking the bootloader would be unlockable... To my surprise I checked and it says no. I still submitted the unlock request through Sony and they generated a code that was e-mailed to me. So confused. The phone is used so does this mean it is already unlocked?

A code will always be generated, but you will be unable to use it
Another example of a generic FW, sim unlocked, carrier free phone that has a bootloader that cannot be unlocked.

This situation can be very frustrating but actually you was not informed about that before brought the Z1, if you will know it you will bring one with Unlockable Bootloader, right? I guess you cannot go back to your provider and switch with another one. If you really give up then I will considering to buy Z2.

Well I purchased the phone used from someone who has never even heard of XDA. I got it off Swappa at a great price and couldn't pass up it being sold. I mean it is a nice phone and I love the quality of the materials (glass/aluminium). I might just root it and keep the phone. Change the stock launcher and live with it until the Z2 price drops a little.
Would Sony ever consider unlocking the Z1 boot-loader if we complain enough?

I know I don't need root for the launcher but I use Nova Launcher and that one does. Plus I like to remove pre-installed crap to make the phone faster

Is My N1 unlocked?

Hi, after doing 1 hour research on google and this site and finding no answer, I'm creating this thread, so I'll really appreciate your help.
I recently purchased used Nexus one, the seller said it's bootloader is not unlocked and it's not rooted, how can I verfiy this? I wanna make sure the phone is locked and no custom roms were installed for warranty purpose. Also, sorry if it's a stupid question, how on earth do I know if My N1 is T-Mobile or ATT version? It does not say anywhere on the box and seller did not know either.

turn the phone off and on and on the first screen do you see a silver/grey padlock at the bootom in the middle
Well if the splash screen has a lock that is unlocked at the bottom of the screen the boot loader has been unlocked.
PS
Warrantys are not transferable...
When you first power on your Nexus One, an image if an unlocked or open lock will appear immediately, near the bottom of the screen. if this image does not appear, your phone is not unlocked.
As far as I know, this is the easiest way to check.
If I purchased my Nexus One using the T-Mobile option ($180), and I rooted, is the phone SIM UNLOCKED? Thanks

No, I only see Google Nexus logo in the middle of screen, means the phone was never unlocked or rooted Thanks a lot, now I feel dumb! Once the phone is unlocked and rooted, is their anyway to put it back into Factory state and restore the warranty? You guys give up your 1 year precious warranty for buggy custom roms? Did anyone send their rooted N1 to HTC for repair and warranty was denied?
the first thing to check is the search function in the forum. now hold down the camera key and the power button as soon as the first screen comes on hit the home button and the arrow keys at the same time and the phone will tell you if it unlocked!

No, you cannot relock your device. Or "bootloader" as I believe its really called, therefore you cannot currently reinstate your warranty. Many people have gotten through HTCs system with common hardware problems though, but don't get mad if you're charged or denied - its obviously your fault.
Also, the ROMs on the N1 are not "buggy", we don't exactly have that many to be buggy exactly, but the ones out there are nearly perfect. Even in Alpha, Desire ports are very nice. Currently there are more kernels than ROMs though, we don't exactly have many things to port it seems. So developers are making other changes, improving things, etc., I assume when more Android devices come out that are worth porting - the development section will be more spicy.
As mentioned before, warranty is non-transferrable. The phone comes out of the box unlocked in the sense that you can use it on either gsm carrier. (At&t or T-Mobile).
Now wether you'll get 3g on one or the other, that's the real question. I know there's a way to find out but it escapes me.
Taken from Nexusoneforum.net:
Look for the light gray text stamped on the phone. It's located right under the battery, so take out the battery to see it.

no, once the phone is unlocked the only way to tell is to insert a non tmo sim! Hope that helps!
All N1s are unlocked/unbranded. The only difference between the full price tmo version and contract version is that the latter will come with a sim in it.
Yes all Nexus one are sim unlocked! Will work with any gsm sim

Relax mate! not everyone is tech savvy like you. Remember everyone is a noob at some point, so take a chill pill and ask the mod to delete the thread. Bootloader unlock allowed : no - Is there any hope?

Hi guys, I know this has been thousands of times, but if our device doesn't allow boot loader unlock (for example mine is on EE) is there any hope what so ever of a way around this? I'm pretty sure someone is going to say something along the lines of "IT'S IMPOSSIBLE STOP ASKING IT CAN'T BE DONE" - if that's the case, would you care to explain why?
Thanks
Well the answer is not at the moment don't know if anyone is working on it... and from what I saw so far in order to hack it you need to use the test point method but in order to do so you need to open your phone...now are u going to take that risk because I won't haha

I agree. I even rang EE and asked them. They and no clue what I meant. Sad really.
I wonder if you got a letter from EE stating that they allow you to unlock your bootloader and then ask Sony to make your bootloader unlockable will that work lol....I know it will take time and maybe u will waste your time but if you really want to unlock your bootloader is worth a shot haha

At least here in Spain, you can unlock your bootloader if you first pay for the simcode unlock to use the phone with any carrier. Then you can email Sony with this information, asking them to leave your phone in the same condition (bootloader unlockable) as any "unlocked sim" phone (I don't know the correct word, sorry)
Then Sony will take your phone as if it was going to be repaired and after a few days you'll get your phone back.
I know this is possible in Spain but I don't know about other countries; maybe it depends on each law system.

Hmmm. Even so. I think i'll be getting on the new HTC One band wagon when it comes around. I want to like the Z1, but the software is, at least in my opinion, nothing less that horrible. Also the glass front and rear is a disaster if you're a mechanic.

If you are mechanic then the HTC One will be scratched forever with the plastic one. I think on Glass you can use some degreasing.

its a new security system for the nexus.. even if you wipe the phone 10x and then flash the factory image, it will still ask for the previous owners security, unless he removed it. if it is removed, then it would be fine. and if he didnt, and you got the phone, he can reset his password, but it will take 3 days before it becomes affected. this is for people that steal devices, to keep you safe.

You should meet up at the carrier store you're trying to activate it at and have someone at the store make sure everything is ok and it activates. Also if you buy things from Craiglist a lot, you should have a receipt book and have the seller sign it and take a picture of the license plate or write it down so you can file a police report if things go sideways.

[Q] help figuring out the best option to buy unlockable BL?

I edited the post to try and make it more "useful" and specific.
Today i finally got m z3+, 3rd xperia in my android history, first thing i checked was bl status and it wasn't allowed unlock.
This is a first time for me and it put me in a hard position beause I honestly can't live without root ^^
Now i sent back and got a refund and am trying to make the best decision to find an unlockable one but have a few questions
Any idea on an average percentage of locked devices? Are they very common or is it 50/50?
The price range for this phone goes from 300€ to 900€, with amazon selling it personally at 575€, in electronics store in my town 499, so 500 is average but there are several offers for way less online..are cheaper phones from stocks for generic market request and perhaps more likely to be locked? I ask this because I previously thought only carrier branded versions were locked. :S
What are your thoughts/experiences?

Was "Find my Xperia" turned on? This makes the BL non-unlockable. Just turn it off and you should be fine.

Dammit, i read the replies as i got back from the post offic to ship back the phone.
I actually thought about trying to unlock it anyway but i was convinced sony wouldn't have given me the unlock code if i tried or it could've bricked the device. This is pretty big news although, it means any bl is unlockable?
Didn't know about the find my xperia, very good to know, when replacement arrives in a few days i'll try again, thank you guys.

Hello i dont have p20 pro yet but i am willing to buy it and i wwnt to ask some questions.
1.do i need to unlock the bootloader to root the p20 pro?only root and twrp not flash custom rom.
2. I heard the huawei shut down the Unlocking bootloader process and find some guides that asking for money. Can i do it free?

Yes you need to unlock the bootloader to root and flash and no there is no free solution. Buy a Galaxy S9 if you can find it at the same price as it is way better than the P20 Pro.

but all i can say is, unlocked bootloader is crucial for me,
will never buy a phone which not unlockable, and, rootable
