find Google play in the apps/show system apps menu and try wiping its data.
evidently its trying to update or synch and is failing or something and just looping.... that's what i think.

Thank you for responding, I did a clean wipe and uninstalled few applications. Now the drain is gone.

Google Maps and battery problem

I am seeing google maps using a lot of battery with latitude and history turned off, independently of the rom, if after I reboot I open it, even if I force it stop. This doesn't happen if after a reboot I don't open it. Am I the only one?
I always use network location and I don't want to turn it off. Is there any trick?
Same problem
I have a similar feeling...

Did not, but since if I don't open it after a reboot I don't see it, I can't see how this could help.
The battery life is great without open gmaps (near 70% after 10h with 3g all the time).

10hrs of usage?!
After 10 hrs screen off with minimal usage im at around 50% propably!
I'm sure I saw google maps get an update yesterday or today to address the battery consumption problem in Latitude and Places ?
yes but it didn't really fix the issue.noticed the same here, gmaps drains too much battery got some reason.

Me also on cm or others than civiato's ROM b2b with gueste kernel oc'ed at 1300. Try it for a week and tell me the results.
Well, it looks like the only solution right now is freezing gmaps after using it.

It's normal draining battery when you're using GPS. What I'm talking about is the draining with gmaps on background, not while using it.

Hi,
I tried chivato's ROM and he implemented google maps in data folder (not in system/apps) so google maps are not loadead/active on system startup. How to do that in rebuild v20q ROM? I don't want remove this app completely just not to be in running apps list?
Cheers

Just uninstall it with titanium and reinstall from market.
By the way, I tried 20q rebuild and came back to civiato's; its much smoother than 20q

Nfo somewhere; blatently spying...I did some monitoring and found maps is coming out of sleep to request location. I have to wonder why.
How do we freeze it because this is otherwise a useful app.
The next thing to do would be watching the traffic to see if it'sending that location

What is up with these wakelocks?

Can someone figure out what's wrong and give me a solution ASAP.
If you go into setting and then into the apps folder, you can click on and stop and then disable any apps you don't use, their is a guide somewhere that gives a list of apps you can stop, as you don't want to disable a critical system app, maybe somebody know where it is.

yeah if I could get a link to that guide that would be great
Download Greenify from the Play store. After installing simply add those offending apps (Google Maps is key example of one) to the greenify list within the app and it will suspend activity from that app when you exit and thus it won't produce any wakelocks.
Most effective tool I have ever used for controlling wakelocks and improving battery life.

Im not rooted, and do you think google now is the real problem because since the recent maps update I haven't seen "maps" listed as a wakelock.
I found the list for the one x, but i am sure there is one for the one m7 somewhere.

I don't use Now because I did find it was a big drain on the battery. Also if I remember correctly with Now enabled it would turn on the gps at regular intervals to record your location even if the user has GPS turned off.
Also personally, I feel that you should root any android device that has an easy root method and can be reset back to stock. With this phone, it is easy to do both.
A bit of a list for the One M7 here.

Was almost about to start a new thread until I saw this one. This is a screenshot from yesterdays battery but do my wakelocks look excessively high? I just downloaded the wake lock app I can't really post screens of that the data wouldn't be too accurate but here are yesterdays wake locks.
What would you recommend. I am about to download greenify now

Those wakelocks are off the charts compared to mine for a day. Which rom are you running? I guess you may have Google Now active as your google stuff is crazy. If you don't use them you should remove or freeze: Twitter, facebook, hangouts, google+
Greenify will help for sure. In a full day ~18 hours, I usually have about 500 application wakelocks (same report from GSam) and over 300 of them are my corporate email client. Android system and Google Services are about 100 per day.
Greenify really helps, but a good custom rom/kernel combo is the key.
I use ViperOne and ElementalX kernel and I overclock CPU to 1.9 and GPU to 450 and I have best battery life I have ever had on the One with any rom. I easily can go 28 hours of medium use with about 5+ hours of screen on time in a single charge.

Yeah the Google services wakelocks really do look crazy high how do I know what apps to greenify. I honestly have a minimal amount of apps as my phone is still pretty new and havent gotten all my apps downloaded.
I cannot remember if I had Google now on for that day or not but now I have it turned off and am about to get greenify. As you can see I was only getting 12 hours away from the charger and I think the wakelocks are maybe what were preventing me from getting closer to ~19 I am on viper 1.2.1 stock Kernel

I don't know which wakelocks you're getting with GS, but I was getting some bad location related wakelocks. I use Google Now and turning off Location Services altogether wasn't an option. So what I did, after searching the BBS threads was to force stop and clear data on these apps:
Google Services Framework
Google Play Services
Maps
Google+
Then I deleted my Google account and signed back in. Whatever was going on, that did the trick.

[Q] Any workaround for Google play services battery bug?

Hey guys,
Is there any known effective workaround for the battery drain issue on 4.4 with google play services?
I have installed the newly released Google play services 5.0 but this is still an issue and causes the phone to get VERY hot during charging

Cleared cache and so far seems to be working with v5.0! Thank you!
This is actually something I was trying to find a work around today.
Mind linking me the Play Services 5.0 you're using? I'd really like to try this.

if that doesnt work I believe you will have to be rooted, use exposed and wakelock terminator.

Thanks for that. Gave it a go, got a result similar to the thread maker's. Was a dream come true, really.
Then it came back again. Didn't do anything different, just eventually came back into play on next reboot.
Uninstalled updates from Play Services entirely and rebooted, got the same effect. I don't think it's 5.0 fixing it, just the other play(s) causing it. Still running as 'uninstall updates' version (whatever it is-- lemme check... 4.0.33) and I've not had an issue with it coming back on. If it doesn't last then I have no clue how to fix this.
Sorry to be a pest and bump / double post.
But I havn't had it come back since I did an 'Uninstall Updates' from Settings > Apps > All
I don't know why this would be so darned weird... But for anyone who hasn't tried it... I guess, sadly try it - and the link that Androidtweaker gave.
When I installed the Play Store that Androidtweaker linked, I did nothing but play games for like 2 hours on my phone - No issues. Kept playing, 4 hours later popped back up. I play Puzzles & Dragon's and link it to my Google+, so I thought they might have triggered all the play services since it is Google Games.
However I uninstalled updates and now it's the 1st of July where I am (3 days later), with Uninstall Updates and playing P&D with G+, I don't have any Play Service Issues.
Sorry I couldn't be of help to anyone who comes to this thread via google searching. Perhaps installing the latest Play Store then deleting cache/dalvik helped cut out some issue hidden within somewhere?...
In settings/location, set to device only. Its google location reporting causing the issue. Setting it to device only utilises just GPS for location.

Nexus 7 Battery drain

Hi, i need some help from you guys I want to ask, is this is normal battery drain from google services? Thanks for answers
Doesn't belong in this thread but in q&a and to answer your question no.

Maybe somoeone could suggest me how to fix it? :S Thanks
First, factory reset. Yes, all apps and data gone. So backup with titanium backup first.
If that doesn't help....reflash stock.
?
What normal usage in % should be from google services?
I did face this issue too.Changing location settings to GPS only will fix this
.But you will not receive any location based cards from Google now.
Did you install the new Google Services (ver 5)? I noticed on my SGS4G that when I installed it, it drained battery like there was no tomorrow. I ended up taking it back down to 4.4.52, There must be a bug somewhere.
I checked and tab shows that i have a 4.4.52 version

Try this,
-uninstall Google play services update and any app that use google play services.
-clear app cache & data,
-reboot in safe mode,
-re-install/update back google play service & all app that use google play sevice.
-lets all sync fine & dandy.
-reboot to normal.
I will recharge my tab one more time and i will check my battery then. If i will be bad, i just will flash 4.4.4 Android, because now i have 4.4.3
I think it is a Google Play Services Version with a bug that caused the Battery drain. Just try to upgrade to fix.
And I even would upgrade to 4.4.4 when the problem is fixed because 4.4.4 fix OpenSSL.

Stock 5.1.1 rom and google services.

Google services are using a ton of battery for no reason.
It's starting to drive me to rage!
It's driving me nuts!
I have disabled nearly everything and google play keeps being the battery eating culprit.

I think it will restart when you open Google Play store... I tried to freeze the services and without it the store does not work. Greenifying the services should help though.
