turning off the finger print icon - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Is there any way to prevent the finger print logo from appearing every time the phone is only slightly moved? That can't be good for the oled...

Which option is it? I can't find it

The line for it is at the settings of lockscreen and then 'when notifications are shown when screen is off' (roughly translated from dutch haha)
You get 3 options, you need the middle one i think.

I've got an opposite situation where on EU .28 rom my fingerprint doesn't show when I move my phone, even after ensuring fingerprint animation is on!
Hmm

I dont understand where we can find this option

That for the screen lighting on when you get a notification, OP was talking about the fingerprint icon that stay on the screen after you lock it or when you move the phone.

Got it!
So for me, its weird.
If "when notifications come and the screen is off" is set to "show animation", I don't get the fp animation when my phone moves.
If it's set to "don't wake screen", the fp animation lights up when phone moves.
This is without "lift to wake" enabled too!
Unsure if this is a bug or by design, but this has helped me get my fp animation back at least lol. So OP, if you're wondering how to turn it off, perhaps ironically set it to "show animation" it you're on latest EU rom...

Thanks for fast answer, but I need to unlock my bootloader to flash the EU ROM? Now I have the official MIUI 10.2.15.0.

That the version I'm running. No updates available.
Bought from the official Xiaomi webstore in France
We don't have the same settings.

Same as above no setting for that and FP animation always running regardless of settings

[Q] Ambient display without screen?/idea

I found one post, but I'm not really sure how many care that you can't have the ambient display without the lock screen enabled. I got very used to the ambient display on my moto x and not having it (or having to use a lockscreen) is driving me crazy! I know that the phones ambient display works by showing the lock screen, so you have to have a lock screen. Would an app that automatically unlocks the phone when you press the unlock button work? Do any of the stable ROMs support the ambient display?
Maybe I'll just have to get the LED working instead
I don't think you need *security* on your lock screen, you just need A LOCK SCREEN.
for sure. i dont use a security lock i just want to emulate my moto x and not have the extra step of swiping of my lock screen. i guess i could make a custom lock screen that automatically unlocks when the unlock button is pressed?

The problem is ambient display turns on the screen based.on movement or notifications, so that's happening in your pocket, you're very close to having your leg accidentally dump your girlfriend

you need to lockscreen for ambient display to work, as thats where it is displayed. and no, you cant make a custom lockscreen. you don't need to have it secured, but you do need the lockscreen to see it.
fortunately pocket texts arent really an issue for me since i keep my phone in my purse
i apologize for not being clear enough at first i guess... i totally get that you need the lockscreen for it to work. i really only had two questions that i was wondering how you all would feel about, i'll ask them a bit more directly:
a.) would making a process that unlocks the lockscreen when the side-button is pressed work?
b.) do any ROM's support ambient display functionality?
if both of those are a hard no i guess i'll throw in the towel and go to the LED notifications

Uhm.... wut?
You may not be able to make an APK that installs a custom lockscreen onto *just anybody's* phone, but you certainly CAN write your own lockscreen.
https://android.googlesource.com/platform/frameworks/base/+/master/packages/Keyguard/
Just to make a wild guess, I would say that anyone who is able to WRITE software (like a lockscreen) could probably manage to BUILD AOSP. I mean, for crying out loud... they break it down with step by step instructions even! https://source.android.com/source/building.html
Mebe you are confusing Android with Apple?
Apple: No, you can't do that.
Android: Go ahead, YOU CAN DO IT!

yes, its possible for you to build a stock lockscreen. that will do everything that your included lockscreen already does. and in more likelyhood, it would be possible to build a modified lockscreen.. but the fact is, nobody has built one publicly, nor shared one. but regardless, you cant have an ambient display, without a lockscreen to display it on.

do you use Tasker? it's quite easy to make a scene that wakes the screen to show the notification content, allow quick dismiss/delete via swipes, and without having to install a separate lockscreen app
you can customize the exact appearance of the 'ambient display', timing, actions on swiping, apps whose notifications are allowed to wake the screen, etc.

Key sign on the notification panel

Hi guys, could anyone tell me why there is a key sign on the notification panel, beside the battery icon? Some say it's because of VPN. I don't have any idea abt it. On the VPN setting, "none" is selected. Anyone who can assist me on this????
It is because of a VPN. Any chance you're using Adguard?

None... I tried booting my phone to safe mode and it's still there. Also, did a factory reset and still there. It means one of the pre-installed apps must have been causing it...
That just means the shortcut panel is hidden/locked. You see when you slide down the notification panel the key sign vanishes

The shortcut to WiFi, Bluetooth, screen brightness. I'm not that good in vocabulary, but lets just say that the key ? means part of the notification panel or whatever panel it's called, is hidden. After you slide down the panel, it vanishes.

Correlation, not causation. The 4G/WIFI signal strength icon disappears too, it's just to make way for the settings cog and the rest.
OP, I can't get a screenshot with status bar pulled down (wtf, why does it retract when I long-press the power button), but I assume under your quick settings it also shows the same key with the text "Network may be monitored"?

Loving this app together with Power Toggles and Simple Control.
This is a great app.
Love this app, one thing annoys me though. I have to swipe down to get out of the notification lock screen after I unlock from fingerprint scanner. Been tinkering and havent found the option to get around that.

Is this when you are unlocking the phone (via FP) while the notification is active? If yes, then you are right it is a minor quibble sort of doing double unlocking.
The idea of this app is to allow you to glance at notification without unlocking the phone.

I hope its not another bloatware like their own apps. I personally don't like how they are adding more and more of their own apps and replacing google ones.

Turn on screen with fingerprint in non-miui rom

In miui based rom, touching the fingerprint scanner while the screen off will turn the screen on.
I know if password and fingerprint lock is enabled, this method works. But i don't want to set any password
Is there a way to do that on non-miui rom like lineage, aosp, nos, etc?
No. You must set a password/PIN/pattern prior to setting up a fingerprint.

Ok, thanks for the info, but i still looking for fingerprint method
Cause i want to save my power button's life
Somehow I did it!!
I was resetting my device (Nos oreo), and add fingerprint+pin, reboot my device
And here's the bug:
After reboot I can't use my fingerprint, so I unlock it with my pin, went into setting and the fingerprint setting is gone (Nos bug, or Oreo bug maybe), so I decided to remove my pin and changed into swipe (default). I restart my device and voilaaa, the bug made me happy, the fingerprint is not gone, and the screen lock is still swipe. I try to wake my device by touching my fingerprint and it's worked, press my power button and just swipe to unlock!! No pin or password required :victory:
