Hi,
I have a problem with Whatsapp program. It works perfectly fine when it comes to sending messages, although I have a problem with staying connected. The messages are delayed (sometimes it's even over 30 minutes) and when I simply wanna unlock my phone and text someone, the person won't receive my message until I reconnect my mobile data (grey clock icon on the left of my message). I've already seen many instructions on the net, like reinstalling Whatsapp, rebooting my phone, checking if my sync works and all that, but none of them worked for me. It really starts to annoy me, but I like this program alot and I don't want to give up on it that fast. So is there any way to force Whatsapp to stay connected full-time ?
I'm using MiniCM-2.2.0 with latest nAa Kernel.
Regards
Bump, spent the whole night browsing the net for similliar topics and found nothing...

well maybe you shouldn't give up on whatsapp but the ROM instead. What i mean is, maybe something inside the ROM/kernel wasn't installed properly and you could try reinstalling ROM and/or kernel... I know it's a stupid solution but it saved me many times when i couldn't find the answer anymore

Thank you for your reply. I already had the problem on previous ROMs (I mainly used MiniCM). Maybe I'll give GingerDX a shot. I'll tell you how it went.

Did you leave the app in background? When you leave Whatsapp, dont click back button, try clicking home button?? Dont move app to SD if you did!

i belive that whatsapp is running in background by default, so as programs such as viber, hotmail, etc. but we all know that this can be checked under settings > applications > running applications
but i agree that moving whatsapp to SD could be the problem, although i had no problem when i moved it to SD
I didn't move it to SD card and I don't use any task killer. Process manager says it is running in the background. Still no idea how to fix it.
if it isn't because of moving to SD, and it is running in background, if it isn't because of ROM (you've said that you have used some ROMs before and that there was the same problem), if your data settings work normally (sync and stuff), if the problem persist on wifi and 3g and edge,...
it occurs to me that it can only be due to two things, maybe you installed cracked version of whatsapp due to 1-year-free expiration, or maybe something went wrong when you installed your current kernel
P.S. whatsapp is 70% of communication on my X8, and i understand you very well when you say that you won't give up on it so easily

I didn't crack anything, I'm still on trial. If I wanted to get another free year, I'd change my phone number I also reinstalled the kernel too.
EDIT: Now it works properly on WIFI only. Still disconnects after couple of minutes on 3G.
EDIT2: It seems like reinstalling GDX and Alfs finally worked for me. Thanks for all the help guys
Another update:
after a few hours I'm back to the point where I started... the problem's still there. I'm really pissed off now -.-

It is only logical that Whatsapp won't implement itself right on your phone... This is all ridicoulos right know, because for as far as i know, you almost tried every solution possible, you've changed to other ROM, heck, you've even changed to other kernel and it still doesn't work.
You said it worked for a while, maybe some of the settings you've changed, and apps you've installed AFTER it was all working properly was interfering with your newly applied settings and/or installed apps

I've installed Advanced Task Killer to see if it's the problem with Whatsapp, but it didn't block me from receiving the messages or anything. I uninstalled ATK and like an hour later, the problem occured again. I'll reinstall the kernel and the ROM again and leave it with only Whatsapp installed for a day. If that doesn't work, I might just buy an Xperia Neo V :S
Maybe it's because I connect to another network instead of my providers one ? I have data roaming enabled and stuff and I connect to Plus instead of Play (even though Play says they allow such things). Could this cause the problem ?
Or Swype Beta maybe ? I'm running out of ideas...
I just found out that when Whatsapp's not showing the "last seen" date (not connected), when I enter any website in the browser and return to Whatsapp, it shows the "last seen" properly. But I still have no idea what can this be...

Wait, does it work normally when you are on wi-fi? try to test whatsapp when you are strictly on wifi (wich means that you turn off celluar data, data roaming and national roaming), so that we can definitly exclude the problem of wifi.
if the problem isn't in wifi, try to connect on your providers network (PLAY) instead of other network (PLUS), and see if the problem persists
if the probelm still persists i belive there is counterinterfering with some application...
i know that i'm offering too much possible solutions, but i think that this can only be solved by method of trying out every possibility

As from what I see for the last 30 minutes, it's working fine on WIFI. I also tried switching to Play and disabling the roamings, but it still kept disconnecting.
The apps I have installed:
- Barcode Scanner
- Battle.net Mobile Authenticator
- Dolphin Browser
- exDialer & exContacts
- GG (Polish messenger, but I doubt it causes any errors as I just installed it recently)
- GO SMS Pro
- Real Player
- Root Uninstaller Pro (I only uninstalled DSP Manager)
- Whatsapp obviously
- ColorNote
- Nexus ICS Minimal Analog Clock
That's pretty much everything I have. I didn't change anything in the settings of GingerDX itself. I'm really helpless here...
huh, nothing from that list shouldn't interfere with anything... maybe you should put back ATK and see what exactly happens with whatsapp when it disconnects from network
i'm really running out of ideas
It's pretty simple. It's got nothing to do with your ROM, kernel, 3G or WiFi - AFAIK. Rather, I think it's to some extent do to your connectivity. The app's refresh interval apparently varies. Seems worse when you have many long threads. Deleting a few threads seems to work from time to time. I however use another android device & I assure you the problem is in no way restricted to the X8

So it's normal that I get my messages delayed by around 30 minutes or even more ? I clear my logs every day, so I think the messages should arrive like... instantly :S

Hi,
Do you still have the problem of the messages getting delayed?
I have the same problem since three months now I think.
I have already tried everything you guys said here.
I have no problems what so ever on WI-FI but only on 3G.
I think it has something to do with Whatsapp, maybe even with our accounts in specific.
Did you ever fix this problem?
Because I am having it on my Samsung Nexus S.
I found that when I send a message, and I am running whatsapp in the background I still woulnd't recieve the messages.
So I hope you found the solution and could maybe share?

I'm experiencing problems with Gmail and whatsapp: whenever I'm on my home wifi the push does not work. But more problematic, sometimes it does work. Next to that when I go into whatsapp after a day of no messages they all arrive at once.
So I'm able to receive messages and Internet works, but the push services doesn't work most of the time! I'm not on stamina mode or any other battery app (BTW battery of my z1 is worse than my sp).
Does anyone have an idea how to find out if there's a culprit or what settings I've messed up?

To my look like the Auto-Sync is OFF so turn it ON. If is already ON probably Gmail and Whazzuppe is not in the list so you have to addict it manually + Add Account.

Thanks for thinking with me, though that is not the case! Sync is on and it works perfectly on other wifi networks.
I can report a more peculiar fact: pinging google.com with Fing results in 100% packet loss, though pinging for example tweakers.net gives me an average of 40msec. Strangely I can brows to www.google.com in Chrome... It seems as though there's something very wrong with my Z1 because pinging Google.com with my Xperia SP does work!
Any news on this?
I'm experiencing the exact same problem. It has been around for at least a couple of months on my Nexus 4.
Most of the times I don't receive any push notifications. I need to open the app manually, wait a couple of seconds, and then all the new messages come in.
Here is what I tried so far:
- Notification settings for each app
- Reinstalled complete OS
- Background data is allowed
- Wifi policy is "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" -> Always
- I don't have any battery savings or task killer apps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599417
I also tried this, and now I only have the OS and Whatsapp installed. But the problem persists.
I have the same problems since KitKat.
Sometimes I have to open the app to become the messages.
I had this problem with 681, then I done a full wipe and installed the 757 rom.
But i also have this problem....
So as it turns out, the problem only exists in my wifi at home.
When I'm at the university everything works fine.
I also noticed that facebook and instagram are very slow on my phone at home.
And only the apps, not the websites.
(this also has been around for a couple of months)
Having the same issue with my HTC M8. Guess I just have to find out what settings are causing this on my router.
Edit: Fixed it. My VPN's DNS servers were blocking push. Changing them back to googles DNS brought push back.
Actually, I was also facing the problem. I tried to get it solved by uninstalling all the recently downloaded apps, but it didn't work for me. And I couldn't uninstall all the apps.
Then I got the idea that it may be because of some setting on my router. I don't know much about router settings. So, I finally installed the VPN App Opera Max and it worked. It was a big relief for me.

Max does not change DNS settings so in theory it shouldn't fix this issue. It's possible that your issue was unrelated to this one.
Hello,
My wife and I are both having similar issues with wifi after updating our phones to lillipop. We can connect to the wifi, but apps that require a login or apps that have an optional login are giving errors saying that there is no network (Network issues, no connection, etc.)
Apps that don't work with wifi: Bank apps, Amazon apps, Twitch, Feedly, Speedtest.net, etc.
Apps that do work on wifi: Chrome, YouTube, Drive, Mail apps, etc.
If we turn off the wifi, everything works fine. We both are running stock phones, I've got the HK M8, and she's got an older M7. There are times when a few of the apps will work for a few minutes, but then the issues come back. My wife's phone is also able to connect to our work wifi, when there, some of the apps that don't work at home will consistently work, but not all of them
We've both been told by HTC to do factory resets and to flash the latest stock RUU. The issue remains even after doing this. I don't really want to do the next step of sending in our phones for 7 to 10 days while they "repair" them.
I've tried everything I can think of. I've also factory reset our router and tried every wifi channel and/or security option, hoping that it is an issue with my wifi router.
Does anyone have any idea of what I can try before having to mail HTC my phone?
Thanks for any help.
Sounds exactly like the problem I had. Factory reseting the router took care of it for me though...

Hey there, i have been using an M8 for two months now and the problem that I have, which fits exactly the description of yours, is starting to annoying me. Every time I try to use these apps which need login I have to turn to mobile data to be able to do it. In my case, the issue that us affecting me the most, is with whatsapp, which even though I do can use, I cannot download media on wifi! (Neither pictures nor voice recordings).
It's a real pain in the neck to be doing this all the time, and I have two friends who also have m8s and are suffering from the same problems, so I guess it's something quite generic. Besides all the other android phones in my family work just fine with my router, so the problem is clearly mine. I think that HTC should have done something about it long time ago if it is such a common issue, considering that the price of the device is not cheap...
Anyway, my question is: have you been able to solve the problem? If you have, would you please take a min to share the solution? I would be deeply grateful!
Cheers and thanks in advance
I am using my HTC One M8 HK with lollipop update from the time they released and never had any problem with wifi. I use wifi wherever I go and no problem with anything. Try the following solutions:
1. Check the WiFi Router. Most of the times it is the problem with your router. Check if there is any restrictions or whitelist/blacklist of services.
2. You might be having some apps with whitelist/backlist running in the background. It could be your antivirus app, battery booster or Opera app, etc which does the wifi whitelist.
3. If you are using the sign-in wifi networks, make sure you signed in to the network using the browser window before opening the app.
4. If you are using the VPN (even in the wifi network) you won't be able to open the apps like Bank apps.
5. If the apps you installed are not supported in your country, you won't be able to access.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the apps. Sometimes, when you upgrade to different OS partitions are not aligned properly. Reinstall and check.
Good luck
Hi community,
Seeking help here. I have never had any issues with regards to VPN connection on my note 9. I have subscription with CyberGhost VPN however I also have free versions of Thunder VPN and X-VPN.
The issue which occurred today that I cannot fix. I am able to connect using both the paid/free VPNs mentioned above, however once connected, my real IP is still transparent.
When I open the 'key lock' android system VPN management popup, I can see that no data is sent or received even though I have surfed web, watched videos etc. I used ipleak.net to confirm the when connected to VPN my IP transparent.
When I restart the device and connect vpn, it works normally i.e. ip not is transparent. But after some time it automatically becomes transparent again. Power saving is never on. I have to restart device again for VPN to work normally again, albeit a short time.
Anyone encountered similar issue and/or have any solution?
I am having the same issue as well, first everything worked fine and suddenly vpn is not working anymore although it says it is connected. I am using Cyberghost as well but tried other software with the same effect (connects normally but no data goes through the vpn connection)
Haven't found a solution up till now, it is very annoying.
Where did you buy your note 9?
Mine is Australian version from Optus. No solution so far. I contacted samsung and they told me to do factory reset.. haven't tried that yet. So annoying!
Hmm ok yes i saw that too as a probable solution when people with older Samsung devices had a problem like this but factory reset i only want to do as a last resort because it's going to be a haggle to set everything right again. If i do it and it works i will reply again.
My one was bought in Thailand by the way and model number is SM-N960F/DS
Same model as yours except not DS. It seems to be a software issue. Don't know what has triggered this. It was working just fine.
It must have been triggered by the latest software update because my nephew in the Netherlands has the same issue when he tried to use the vpn just now. It worked after rebooting the phone and then his connection dropped after 10 minutes and now his vpn connection isn't working anymore.
So three Note 9 phones all bought in a different country and region have the same issue, weird that this problem hasn't come up on forums more unless the cyberghost app broke our vpn capabilities..
Oh ok that is interesting. I tried other free vpns also with same result. But I was using cyberghost before this problem...
I really don't want to do factory reset.
Same issue in Canada
I am in Canada and I'm having the same issue. What I have found, is it if I download a DNS changer, and I change the DNS, once in awhile it starts working again. But this is completely unreliable.
This seems to have been an issue for a while and for a business marketed phone, it's quite perplexing that Samsung/Google have not dealt with this issue yet.
I got a temporary solution from cyberghost. It's requires setting up L2TP vpn connection. It's not as fast but it does the trick for now. I noticed from my searches this has been an issue since Samsung S8...hopeless!
Is this a Samsung problem or an Android problem? Samsung is telling me to send my Note 9 in for repair bit I am not convinced there is anything they can do. I have tried a factory reset but it was of no help.
I guess deleting all VPN profiles from device but very one will do a thing
Did the latest samsung update but still doesn't work. Any solutions?
The only solution that worked for me is to set up vpn manually.
Add a new device at Cyberghost account management and manually enter the pre-shared key, username and password given and choose ipsec protocol and on your device choose L2TP/IPSEC PSK.
Then you have to connect to the VPN there instead of the Cyberghost App and you will have full vpn functionality although slower than the app which is using OpenVPN or Ikev2 protocol but it's better then nothing.
I use OpenVPN for Android and under Advanced you need to set 'Use VPN for All apps except' and set route all traffic over VPN.
This did change somewhere in Oreo, it didn't used to be like this.
betternet vpn works a treat. no issues with transparency 48hrs after reboot.
PIA works without issues.
Hi there,
in November last year I bought a brand new Google Pixel 5 and I gotta say that I'm quite happy with it, however there's been something quite annoying: sometimes it freezes and reboots itself when I'm using mobile data. I tried to figure out what was causing the issue and why it only happens when I'm using mobile data but I can't really find an answer. If I use WiFi, everything is fine, I can listen to the radio, watch videos on YouTube, have Teams calls, browse the web with Chrome etc, however if I try to do the very same things with mobile data in 4G (there's no 5G coverage in my area) it freezes and then reboots. It doesn't always happen, it seems to be happening randomly and I have no idea why. After rebooting, the app that crashed still has something in memory and if I try to open it without killing it first, it will immediately freeze the phone again and make it reboot again. It happened while I was watching videos on Facebook, it happened while I was watching videos on YouTube, it happened while I was browsing with Chrome, it happened during a Discord call, it happened during a telegram call, it happened while I was checking the NHS COVID-19 app... It can occur after few hours or several times an hour and I don't know what's causing it. Android is a Linux like OS, is there a way to check the journal and see what's happening? And on top of that, is there a way to let Google know and make Android automatically report crashes? The phone is still new, it's not rooted and I've only unlocked the developers options to force the refresh rate to 90Hz but that's it. I reached out to Google and they offered to replace the phone as soon as I send it (RMA) however I would like to find out first whether it's really an hardware problem or if it's Android 11 being unstable. I do have all the OS updates and all the apps are updated. What do you think? Oh last but not least, the SIM ain't an eSIM, it's a physical SIM placed inside the phone.
thank you in advance,
Frank

Have you tried resetting your network in settings? Were you using this same SIM in your old phone with no issues, or was it new? Have you tried to replicate the issue in safe mode to rule out an errant app? If resetting network doesn't work, just back up your data and factory reset the phone. Google may have suggested this already. It's pretty much their automatic response before RMA. Cheers.
Of course I tried to reset my phone and start from scratch but it didn't help. As to the SIM, it has been working fine on my old phone for years so it's not the one causing the issue. Besides, if I disable mobile data but I still use the phone to call other people using the carrier network, it doesn't have any issues at all. As to safe mode, it happened with Chrome and YouTube, standard Google apps, so I can rule out third party apps altogether. It's really weird.
I made a few more tests and it seems to be related to GPU Hardware acceleration. I said that it happened on Facebook, YouTube and Chrome and I thought about the common factor: I was watching videos. It happened while I was on Facebook watching videos, it happened while I was on YouTube watching videos and it happened while I was on Chrome visiting a website which had an ad in which there was a video playing.
Oh and it also happened when I opened the camera 'cause... guess what? Video!
What puzzles me is that it only happens in 4G but not in WiFi and I can't think of any possible reason why it's only occurring with mobile data...
Ok after trying to understand what happened I was finally able to solve the issue and it wasn't an hardware fault nor it was related to video. It was me using IPSec Xauth PSK with Always on VPN turned on. It turns out that using a third party application to connect via Open VPN fixed the issue. It's now more than a week and I've never had a single reboot or freeze or crash. I have no idea why, but all I can say is "stay away from IPSec Xauth PSK" guys, there's something deeply broken there. Anyway, I'm glad everything turned out to be ok.
Cheers,
Frank
