Hey guys
I've not been impressed by the battery life on my phone and so I decided to give it a test. I charged to 100% and unplugged it when I went to bed. I suffered 39% battery drain over night
Amy suggestions on what I should do here?
Device info
I suggest you to install better battery stats to check what's the issue. Android stats are too generic
*#*#4636#*#* Set your primary sim to be the correct setting and set your secondary sim to be same(even if you don't have one).
Setings->Sim cards & mobile networks Turn off Dual 4G. Select your sim and under Preferred network type, select LTE.
I'd noticed on a battery drain thread someone talking about how aggressively these phones try to jump networks. Once I told mine what I'd like to do, it seemed to massively help my battery life. Every update I've gotten seems to have reset all these settings and so it's pretty easy to tell(on my phone) when I've gotten a big update(as my battery goes to the crapper and I have to fix my settings). I'm down to 24 hours till I can unlock my phone and I'm hoping eu rom is going to stop doing this crap.

OK I will do that and let it discharge while I'm at work.

When you say "set your primary sim to the correct setting" do you I should set it to just LTE under the preferred network type on this screen?
Wifi is active forever = you might need to remove "allow wifi search" in "location services"
You need to set both 'phones' to LTE/WCDMA in that 'Testing' menu, even when you only have 1 SIM because in that case the 'Phone 2' is the SIMcard-less 'emergency only' mode and will cause drain when set to the wrong protocols (for your region). Secondly, after a reboot these settings get reset, so you need to do it on each boot for the stock ROM (at least I have to, on the latest global ROM in the EU). That solved my 'Cell Standby' drain, now it only uses 1 or 2% over night (I still get a lot of messages during the night from certain chat-groups, so ymmv).
Thanks for the help guys this seems to have done the trick
This is definitely the battery life I was expecting!
May i ask you which settings did you applied ? I have same problem. Also do these settings effects anything about mobile data, network or sim usage ?

Changing the network through the dialer menu seems to be the fix for it. I got an update yesterday and had my battery drain 44% over night.... That was the only setting had changed because it reverts with each restart.

Since i am a xiaomi newbie (actually 6 days old user ^^), could please be more specific ?
After dialed *#*#4636#*#* this combination, should i change ''Set Preferred Network Type:'' to which setting ? I have marked on image.
Also as a additional information about my unit if needed, MIUI Global 10,2.9.0 Stable (PFAMIXM) and device is global version (M1902F1G).

There is no fix yet with the official ROMs; after each reboot/restart the setting revert back to that, so you have to change it everytime.
As far as I've read- I still have 3 days to go for my unlock grace-period to test it myself - the custom ROMs don't revert it back on restart.
If you're not into custom ROMs, your best bet it reporting it as a bug as frequently and in as many official places (Mi Forum, Mi Community, Feedback app in phone) as possible; so that they hopefully fix it in an update ....

Something similar I suppose. Battery is draining fast and seems like "Android" is the culprit

Lately my battery has been draining at crazy rate with minimum options/services turned on.
Wifi on, brightness on automatic, and the rest turned off (sync,BT, mobile data, GPS etc)
It seems as though its to do with the radio. Under battery use, cell standby is always >60% and apparently my time without a signal is always >50 also. The thing is, I get full reception at my house, full bars and no patchy signal.
My guess is that something is killing my signal when the screen is off. I'll go to bed with 100% battery and wake up ~7 hours later with 65%. For a brief 10 seconds after waking the phone, I will have no reception. It either restores itself or I have to go in and our of airplane mode.
I'm running CM6.1 final with pershoots 1030 kernel, if that helps.
At first I thought SetCpu wasn't giving the phone enough juice to keep the radio going when the screen was off. I had a profile to max at 384mhz(for screen off) and thought it was the problem. I disabled it and deleted it, but no luck.
I am strongly hoping that others have been in the same situation and found an easy fix. Oh, and I've already tried wiping, no use. I've also tried GSM auto and WCDMA preferred, neither any different.
Did you try reflashing the radio?

No I haven't, is that Known fix?
I've only reflashed the ROM, twice.
By the way, I used the airplane mode trick to stop that common cell standby abnormality in the battery use settings. Its still draining rediculously quick when the screen is off.
There is nothing common in your problem, so it's not a common fix. It's just something that might help - since the drain is attributed to the radio, trying to update radio SW makes sense.
It *may* also be worth playing around with *#*#4636#*#* menu a bit to change your preferred network type. I have read elsewhere that some of the other options (GSM auto (PRL), for instance) could help your phone conserve battery while it's idling.
Access the menu by opening the phone app and dialing "*#*#4636#*#*" ( that's *#*#INFO#*#*, btw ), and then select the "Phone info" menu.
Which radio version are you running?
Install aLogcat to see radio buffer ( Preferences --> Buffer?), it might give us some clue about your problem...

This is a guide of how I have managed to massively extend my battery-life on the Optimus 2x. I personally use instant messaging like whatsapp and talk, and everybody should where possible, so I don't believe in turning off data during the day to save battery (sms is so 1999)! This are my recommendations to tune your battery-life from unacceptable to at least acceptable times (1 workday with quite high usage).
Items found to work especially well on the Optimus 2x P990
Use WiFi whenever you can, but disable when there are no networks you can join
- 3G seems to be by far the biggest drainer of battery-life, and WiFi idle seems to consume very, very little power. Make sure WiFi is *not* disabled when the screen turns off. Make sure to switch it off when you're not able to use a WiFi network however, to stop it scanning.
Set Network-Type to GSM (auto)
- Use the default dialer and select *#*#4636#*#*, select phone information and select GSM auto (PRL). Still allows for hsdpa data, not the maximum highest speed, but still quick enough for usage and extend battery life of some networks massively. If you want to be even more agressive, turn it to 2g only, but I find this too slow for casual surfing or internet usage, but if you only need it for instant messaging it should be good enough.
Disable gestures and orientation sensing
- Disable the specific gestures in the gestures menu and disable orientation by the button on the notification bar. Spare parts detects minutes of activity of the sensors during normal usage where it's not actually needed, so simply disable it when not using it from the notification bar (which is easy to do without switching apps anyway).
Make ABSOLUTELY sure your RIL matches your baseband
This is crucial. Without a matching RIL file (lge-ril.so in /system/lib) is ok, otherwise you will have a massive drain and problems with networks disconnecting all the time. Use LG GetRIl in the market to fix this if you cannot do it manually.
Check if your MicroSD card is detected when installed!
- I have issues sometimes with my MicroSD card being plugged in but not deteced, which causes my MicroSD card to become very hot, and my battery to empty in 3/4 hours completely. Reboot or remove and reinstall when it happens. Generally try to keep your phone keep as cool as possible, hot temperatures will decrease your battery-life.
Conventional and standard items for Android phones:
Check partial-wake usage in Spare Parts to find fauly apps!
- Check once in a while if there are any dodgy apps keeping your phone awake, causing your idle power consumption to be pretty bad!
Discharge your phone in a pattern of 100% to 20% and recharge
- Keeping cycles like this where possible, especially just after resetting battery statistics or installing a new rom, will eventually mean your battery will stay better for a longer period and you will notice your battery-life should be ok.
Make sure the minimum number of apps are running as services
- Go to Applications, Active services and find which unused apps you can disable.
Turn off Wireless Network Location if you are not using it
- Go to Location and Security, and disable use wireless networks.
Make sure not to use a task killer, especially not with automatic killing
- Sometime a taskkiller can be good to stop a app that hangs or causes issues, but make sure to not make it a default practice. To optimize battery usage, please tune the min/max of free memory managed by Android subsystem itself. Download Minfreemanager from the market, and set empty app to 96mb and content provider to 64mb and make it stick after reboots. This should make sure your phone will not slow down after a while of usage and enough inactive/idle apps are closed in the background.
Set Facebook / Twitter sync to once every 2 hours or more
- Make sure you don't let your phone sync that often, better to update it manually when you want to see it instead of syncing that often. Especially with Twitter having push now your direct messages will still turn up instantly even with slow synctimes for non-direct messages.
Watch out with Picasa sync
- Great feature, but dangerous since if it decides to start syncing when you are not on WiFi with bad reception, since it will mean it will sync potentially for a long time, destroying battery-life unexpectedly. There should be an option to sync this only on 80%+ battery only on WiFi but there isn't any, unfortunately.
Disable Google Latitude in Maps if not used
- If you need a longer battery-life, make sure you tell Latitude in Google Maps to not update your location (also see the point of network location), and make sure you sign out of it as well (so it doesn't update in the background if you are not using it).
I will update this and looking for good suggestions, please let me know especially about network-type GSM auto (PRL) and if it makes the same huge difference on your side. Also, another note, I am using 0405 baseband since I find best battery-life bundled with the RIL from a Vodafone Spain 0405 RIL as shared here.
Good luck improving your battery-life!

Im trying it out, but just an observation, the setting goes back to WCDMA prefered when you reboot the phone. Any way to make it stick?
Just shut down the phone and restarted and setting has not returned to WCDMA preferred on mcr fr19 but stayed on GSM auto (prl).

I think that if you tick 2G only on and off again it will go back to WCDMA Preferred.

mine definitely does not stick and i havent toggled 2G or anything else...
Thanks for the advice, seems to have done the trick for me. There seems to be very little speed difference with GSM auto set, I'm sure the improvement in battery life will compensate for the decrease in speed
Just restarted the phone and the network was reset to wcdma preferred
However good tutorial

For the ones having the problem that wcdma settings keep being restored, just enble 2g radio only first, from the wireless menu. Later repeat the indicated steps and reboot. Did the trick for me.

I agree with you in all points - except for this one! I could not believe it myself but it has turned out that I get the best battery life on my O2x using this combination:
- MoDaCo FR19
- Baseband 0530
- RIL 0622
Baseband 0622, which is actually recommended for FR19, was horrible for me regarding battery life! I was surprised to see this non-matching combination provide a far better experience! Also, no problems with connectivity or call quality whatsoever. I'm on Vodafone Germany, for what it's worth.
Interesting. Do you see any dialer wake in spare parts at all? I notice I recently got android system playing up quite a lot, no idea what is causing it :-(
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Yes, I see the Dialer show up in Partial Wake Usage. It's on first or second place, but the blue bar is not very long though, maybe 3-4 mm.
Dialer usage seems to increase after 3-4 days of uptime, strangely...
This was missed in the original post so let me add my two cents worth.
To save even more battery, I would as well, advise paying some attention to screen brightness and wallpaper/theme selection.
In my experience, you can save 20 to 30 mAh by turning off Auto Brightness and setting it to something lower. The auto brightness control in O2X is overly bright and dismal in its operation. It barely changes in response to varying light conditions.
For this, you need an automation app called Tasker, or something similar. I use Tasker to control all manner of things including all the network situations mentioned in the first post of this thread. For saving battery in relation to screen brightness, I use Tasker to set screen brightness to 70 during the day, and to turn it down to 50 during the night. You can adjust these to your own preferences. But, as mentioned above, running these values saves me about 20 to 30 mAh of power when the screen is on.
In general, selecting darker wallpapers and themes will also help you save some power. Many messaging and email apps, for example, will give you a choice of a dark or light theme. If they do, I always choose a dark theme to ensure minimal power consumption.
My two cents worth

Not a bad point, thanks. I am using a low manual brightness, is there maybe a brightness bar widget so you can tune it manuallly directly from a homescreen? That would be great.
And of course you must be crazy to use live wallpapers. Why would you want to make your battery last shorter and your homescreen slower and more annoying to look at?

Yeah, good additional point that I missed about the live-wallpapers
I use a small app called Quick Settings which installs in the pull-down notification screen to quickly adjust screen brightness if I need to override the auto settings I set in Tasker.
PS. You might want to update your first post with the info about controlling screen brightness since many users are ignorant of the default auto-brightness setting, AND your post is very useful and I see it being referred to as a solution quite often. I was made aware of this thread from way over at Modaco. Good work!
Hope the moderators will stick this thread to the top of the forum.

Hi there,
I'm having problems with the GPS since the update to OS4... Before that I could record my runs with apps (runkeeper, polar) and never had a problem.
After the update I had 2 runs where my GPS signal was lost (or the apps stopped without notification)....
Is there a way to go back to an older version of OS, or would a factory reset help?

Gps worked better in 3.5.4 than on 4.01 signal is good but it calculates 22m accuracy an this wig good with lock on 17 satellites and strong signal .. and losses connection way to often.. (its something system/cpu/powering related..) needs to be fixed !!!
Maybe you have "active doze mode enabled" in battery settings... this renders GPS almost unusable as it kill /gps resets and locks again( and it way to often in background...

I got my 3T today tested the gps on 3.5.3 works perfectly acuracy is with in 10 meters.gonna test is later on using OS 4
on my old HTC one m7, I have accuracy min 6m when I am outside and next to OP3 where 10m accuracy is a max what I can get with fluctuations to 15-50m all the time. I have no idea what is going on. Also compass is behaving weirdly and not always showing correct North.
Same here, OxygenOS 4.0.2 broke the GPS
I use navigation a lot with my phone (Google Maps). I had no issues with the GPS quality and speed on Marshmellow (OxygenOS 3.2.8). Got the update to Nougat (OxygenOS 4.0.2) a week ago.
Since the upgrade, GPS often does not get a fix for several minutes, often puts me several 100 meters away from where I am, and keeps loosing the GPS fix every few minutes while I am driving. It is basically unusable for navigation.
I am now taking along my good old LG G4 every day just to use it as a navigation device. Have been running both phones in parallel in the car; the G4 gets me to my destination while I would not be able to find anything with the OnePlus 3....
I am already considering downgrading back to 3.2.8. But I'd have to factory reset and reinstall everything, that sucks
I recently had GPS issues on OOS 4.0.2 until I turned off Wi-Fi Scanning. After turning it off, GPS works normal.

when u say this started "a day after the update", does that mean that it worked for a day and then only AFTER a full day it stopped working?

Thanks for your reply.
1: It's erratic. It works for 4 hours perfectly, then doesn't work for a couple of hours at all. I've tried it on another phone and it works perfectly all day long.
2: I did the update from the settings itself on wifi. The phone restarted post-update and it was done.
3: Here's a screenshot of my "about phone":

4: Yes, I've tried a factory reset and it still gives me the same problem.
once it stops working, does it switch to 3G? or does it just stop using mobile data completely? also, when it changes, are you on the move? or are we talking about the same exact location concerning erratic behaviour?

I think better you try clean install
Maybe its lock region or something like that

No, the 4g symbol is still on, but nothing loads. The speed is less than 15kb/sec. It's not just when I'm moving around, but also when I'm at home. Sometimes in the same area, I'll get regular 4g speed and after a few hours in the very same area, I'll get nothing for a long, long period of time, while at the same time a friend of mine with the exact same phone (MiMax2) and same network gets full speed.

Some of mi device sometimes lock the 4g signal for a few region
In this case, example i buy from China with global rom installed and working 4g even i back to my country its still working
Then i got the rom update
And the 4g didn't work anymore
After that i try to clean install the rom with china rom
And its back to work normally
It started two days ago. Phone works well for some time, then suddenly it looses WiFi connection. WiFi is still enabled but icon in status bar disappears and apps cannot download content from internet.
I would normally try to restart WiFi in such situation, but I can't do it. Clicking on button in notification bar does nothing, neither going to "settings -> wifi" and clicking on toggle switch.
What helps is restarting entire OS, but after a few hours it happens again. It happend 4-5 times during those 2 days. I originally posted such thread on reddit and some people started to say they have such issues too (and they also started 2 days ago) so it looks like some faulty software update.
Is it known issue? And if it isn't: where should I report it?
>> so it looks like some faulty software update.
What is exact your stock ROM, like EVA-L09 c432 b3xx or something
There are no other updates than when you receive OTA upgrade (in which case you get complete new build number) - assuming you are not using custom ROMs.
Also, what kind of WiFi connection you have, 2.4 or 5 GHz, which channel, encryption, etc
Asking because didn't see anybody else complaining about, and WiFi for me works perfect, on various WiFi APs at hone or work, with different settings
Omg it started happening to me 2 days ago aswell. It happened yesterday and the day before but today it didn't happen. And im using Magic Rainbow Rom.
I have got the same issue. Before that the newest FW where installed. I did it through firmware finder. It was L19C185B401. My P9 almost never getting updates himself.
I have got the same issue. How could i fix that problem.
Please help!!!

Report it to Google. Google Play Services is ****ing it.
Factory reset idea ?
I think I have exactly the same problem. WIFI icon in traybar is enabled, but wifi is not working and can't even turn on/off Wifi settings.
Today bluetooth keeps playing up, where MiFit is turning off Bluetooth and saying that it can't connect to the band because bluetooth is off.
When I will close app, start bluetooth and try to sync band, bluetooth goes off.
I am on a stock ROM
Also. If I will try to restart the phone, it will stuck on restart animation. Hard reset resolves the problem.
I also suspect Google play services as nothing else changed on my phone.
Problems are starting to be even worse. My battery went crazy, 70% to 5% in half an hour. Phone works really slowly. I'm quite angry, my p9 is a few months old and those problems came out of blue without any particular reason.

How do you know that? How are Google Play services connected to how WiFi works? Yet I reported it anyways, let's see what they will answer.

Is "hard reset" the same as "factory reset"? I want to avoid this if it's not absolutely necessary. Configuring all installed apps again would take forever. I've currently done "factory reset" to Google Play Services (came back to version that was preinstalled with phone), if they are causing the problems, it should stop by now.
I have the same problem (L09 FW-B395) . It started few days ago along with crazy battery drain. I did factory reset but it didnt help. I tried to set wifi config. during sleep to be always on and it seems to be working. I havent had wifi broken for 2 days now.
As we can see there is no connection between issue and FW version. We all have different. So is it really could be some app issue? I've got battery drain issue too. It seems like wi-fi can not connect finally but take battery for connecting again and again untill it fully discharged. Only reboot helps. :/
i have the same suxx at last days ... /

WiFi issue
I'm having the same WiFi issue from several day ago.
Same here, also the battery drain and heating are present. I noticed when this issue is on, I have no access to see the battery usage information. I'd be really pleased to find a solution to this problem. I have had P9 almost two years now and no issues whatsoever. Even the battery lasts usually two days until this came up :/
I too have the exact same problem which I started to notice a few days ago :
- Crazy battery drain appearing randomly with the phone getting abnormaly hot
- Wifi is not responding anymore, not possible to deactivate/activate it in settings or with wifi icon in shortcuts. No more networks detected but wifi stays activated and I guess it is heavily searching networks, draining the battery.
- No access to battery stats (it is refreshing continuously and does not display anything). When stats are restored, there is a "blank" period in the battery trend/graph
- Only shutdown/restart the phone solves the problems until it comes back !
It appears randomly and I thought my battery was dead again after only a few months (new battery). I am on B399SP02 (it's a P9 EVA-AL10). Any idea what's going on ??
I have exactly the same issues for a week or so. Initially I though this is related to this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76525545&postcount=31
because I am on b393 but apparently this falls more under this thread.
What I have noticed today is being above 50% of battery problem disappears (edit: this morning I've lost wifi at ~65%). When I am below I cannot even restart phone due to some infinite loop and need to do hard reset.
How is it possible to experience the same issue at almost the same time on different ROM versions?
What Google Play Services version are you on? Mine is 12.6.73.
Same thing on my Vodafone (Hungary) version of P9.
For me, a hard reset solved the issue!
Update: the issue came back (Google Service drains battery).
I had no other choice, but disable google service until get fixed.
