May Update - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I promised myself that I won't be rooting nor toying around with my S10 (GM-973F). but since I got it on the 30th of April, I still didn't get any security update. it is saying that I'm running G973FXXU1ASD5 since I got it but it is with April security patch level.
I don't know but I think that My CSC is set for TKD/XSG, don't know what region that is.
Can anyone help me getting the official update without using Odin
Thanks

Why not using Odin? I have flashed first May update, and last night second May update ( the fixed one ) without any problem. Using HOME_CSC I managed to keep all my data and I am getting a much better SOT with this May update now. Just download latest SamFirm on your PC, type the model of your device ( SM-G973F ) , type the AUT in the Region section, make sure that Auto, Check CR32 and Decrypt automatically are enabled. Super easy.

When using Phone info, it says that my active CSC is TKD and I have a bunch of available ones like AUT and XSG, should I just donwload AUT and flash it using odin and I'll keep my data? because I don't want to set my phone up once again.

Yes, just download AUT version and when you download it and extract the .zip on your Desktop you will see a files named: AP_ , BL_ , CP_ , CSC_OMC_OMX and HOME_CSC_OMC.... Make sure you have selected the HOME_ CSC and not the CSC_OMC.... , that way nothing will change and your data will be intact.

You need to flash WITHOUT sim and memory cards. When done let the phone turn on. When boot up you will see Let's start! on screen, now insert your sim and let the phone restart.

What if I don't want to lose my data?

I have the same issue. On csc NZC, tried flashing update with csc BTU and it looked successful in odin, but the phone didn't actually update.
Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk

Fixed it for me - I used AUT as the CSC for downloading from the Frija tool, rather than BTU.
Flashed successfully, even with simcard in.

did your CSC stayed the same? or changed to AUT?

Did you select the firmware .tar file in odin PDA tab only?
This sometimes happens due to bad download file, try flashing some other firmware, preferably GB so that you can wipe if required.
search google with 'Receive Response form LOKE" and you will find lot of people having same issue and most of them able to resolve by flashing different firmware.

Yes, its completely wrong, you should select single firmware .tar in PDA tab only. Try again by rebooting your phone and check if you have kies running, if so close it completely.
SUGGESTION- Do not flash ICS stock rom now, I am not sure what has been messed up by flashing this using phone tab (ICS phone files on GB base, not sure), best is flash stock GB firmware first, then wipe in stock recovery and flash ICS.

Need help PLEASE! Samsung Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950N Exynos 8895 STUCK IN DOWNLOAD MODE

So I am a poor guy that has a dream of using a Note 8 for this is my dream phone. Somebody post a listing in Facebook that his note 8 is somewhat useless for he don't know what is the problem and he is selling it as a bargain so I grab it.

I try to flash a SM-N950N firmware using Odin v3.13.1 but I am getting an error:

Hi am wondering if you could help with my Galaxy Note 8
I am able to install the firmware using ODIN without any errors on download mode but after ODIN is finished the phone turns off and does not boot.
I have taken the phone to a repair shop as well and they have confirmed that there is no hardware issues,

S10 Emergency Initialization

While attempting to update my (new to me) used, AT&T-branded S10, SM-G973U, to android 10, I ran into an issues. I can still use and boot the phone into android 9, but I cannot enter download mode (at boot, hold all 3 buttons goes to warning. If press up, download mode fails, and message reads: 'An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch software.' If press down, phone will boot normally).
I've installed and attempted to use Samsung's Smart Switch, but the 'device initialization' tab is no longer present in the latest versions of the software. Posts related to this issue where present in the S7 forums, where I found a link to the last version of Smart Switch that provides this functionality. On this older version, after I enter the model and serial, smart switch just closes after I click OK. Nothing happens.
Any advice from those that know better?
Am I just completely SOL ?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any input.

Are you using the modified patched version of Odin? It's a must for the S10 line. Also, your country/product code is CHA for Charter. It should be ATT if you're on AT&T. Official AT&T firmware is hard to find as it's not released to Samsung's website.
If you're on ASI6, then boot to recovery and do a data factory reset. Once the phone boots after that and if your AT&T SIM card is in, connect it to wifi and check for software updates in settings. If all goes well it should just OTA update to Android 10.

The factory reset did restore the download mode, thanks so much!
Actually, I stated AT&T since the startup logo, and bloatware all indicated AT&T.
Just to confirm, which is the correct ODIN version for the Galaxy S10? Does the ODIN version depend on the current firmware of the phone, or the firmware version that you want to upload?
Even the website odindownload.com has 4 versions listed, and sammobile.com has 3.14.1 listed.
Other threads mentioned a version called Odin3_v3.13.1_3B . [And I feel like the person who came up with that version numbering scheme should be our next president]
I'm not actually on AT&T or Charter, so I don't think any updates will ever come thru.
I still have more questions before I try again, but I will create a new thread.
No problem! If your boot logo is AT&T then you're on the AT&T firmware only with the charter country code. If you flash the AT&T country code (it's hard to find unless you wanna pay for it at www.gsm2file.com like I did), you should be able to OTA to Android 10 if you have an AT&T SIM card inserted.
The Odin version you need to flash ANY U.S. S10 firmware is 3.13.1_3B_patched and it can be found within the bowels of the forum here. You can only flash firmware that's for the U.S. snapdragon models (Sammy unlocked, Sprint, AT&T, cricket, Verizon, etc.) Do not try to flash other countries firmware.
I found 3.13.1_3B_patched in another forum, and will provide the link here, just in case it might help anyone else.

I was feeling courageous and still wanted to remove the AT&T branding by moving the firmware over to XAA. [ I had hoped a wifi update would update me to the latest 10, and I could feel confident updates would happen further down the road. ]
The update failed (see log below), so now I must confirm:
-- Firmwares for G973U1 and G973U are interchangeable?
-- I should use ODIN version v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD and not v3.13.3_3B_PatcheD ?
A slightly new screen prompt on my phone reboot allowed me to clear user data and perform a user data wipe, and now the phone is back to operational.
I downloaded the last android 9 version of XAA, located here. :

Yes, U firmware and U1 firmware are interchangeable. Just be sure you're on the same bootloader as to what you're going to flash. If you're currently on bootloader 2 you can only flash bootloader 2 firmware. Same goes for bootloader 1. If you don't want AT&T bloatware, then flash the latest U1 build which I think is Android 10 or flash the latest Android 9 U1 firmware and see if it lets you OTA to Android 10. You can use any patched version of Odin, I just recommended 3.13.1 because that's the version I have.
Well, my bootloader is 2, based on what I found. And every firmware I have tried so far has been the same luckily. But still another failure attempt with latest Android 10 (G973U1UES2CSL1_G973U1OYM2CSL1_XAA).
I also tried Odin3 v3.13.3_3B_PatcheD.zip, but had the same failure and recovery process.
I'm completely stuck on any ideas as to how to change this firmware. Is this the new norm for Samsung phones with branding, or is this specific to AT&T?
As always, thanks for your time and patience.
Just to confirm:
- I must load all 4 sections with ODIN: AP, BL, CP, CSC? I have never tried or ever read about partially loading...
- Windows versions don't matter right? Guess I'll try another computer to run ODIN on?
How to determine bootloader:
Look at baseband version in software information under phone info in settings.
Bootloader (BL) version is 5th digit from right:
In my case baseband is G973USQS2ASI6, so my BL version is 2

Question Unbrick S21 Ultra

Had some issue during flashing, and the process got interrupted.
Now the phone is stuck on "An error has occured while updating the device software", can't get in to recovery or download mode.
Any advice would be appreciated.

ok. let me try again
Hi all,
I really need some help. I bricked my S21 Ultra. I bought it in Thailand and wanted to change it to German CSC. And it now shows on the screen "an error occured while updating the sofware".
Frst in red it was saying something ike
Hash of Data Does Not Match Digest in DescriptorNow it only says "DEBORE :" nothing behind it....
I tried installing HOME_CSC_OXM_G998BOXM4BULI from HOME_CSC_OXM_G998BOXM4BVB1 (I entered all 4 flles in ODIN, ticked only Auto_Reboot and F.Rest Time ticked.
I cannot restart it or shut it off. It always come back to that screen.
Can anyone help?
In future you'll find that the error has occured screen is actually download mode it just displays a different screen. If you plug your phone in it registers and flashes fine from that screen.

Reason vbmeta: Error verifying vbmeta image:
0_0INDIVLDUMT_EDRHS_IMTHSGAUEMSAC
if your phone won't boot because of verified boot, either flash back to stock or flash vbmeta_disabled.tar
if you tried to patch your boot.img this wouldn't really be a problem because magisk patches vbmeta for you when you patch.
if you tried to flash a magisk zip you should have followed instructions for twrp which requires flashing vbmeta_disable.tar in Odin. in other words you couldn't have followed instructions.

bootloader is locked!! You got a US phone version, you can not Root neither install a custom Rom or TWRP.
Download the last official Rom for your phone, and flash it through Odin. Then your phone will work again.
