Hey guys
I am new to the Xiaomi Mi 9 and I want to ask if this device has a Pocket Mode.
It's somehow annoying that my music stops or that the next song is played when my phone is in my pocket.
My phone wakes up sometimes when it's in my pocket.
Is there any rom that has this feature?
There is no Pocket Mode in mi9 even on Xiaomi.eu.
You can add Pocket Mode https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-customiuizer-customize-miui-rom-t3910732
Is there any other rootless method to gain pocket mode?

Just lock it with a pattern and unlock with either face unlock or fingerprint.

This does not help, I have my device locked with fingerprint and face recognition.
I asked about the feature that prevents the device from waking up when it is in my pocket.
Put the phone into the pocket with the screen facing out, or use only facerecognition and dissable double tap to wake and fingerprints unlocking
It just weird that this device doesn't have pocket mode.
A cheaper phone like pocophone also have pocket mode.
Even when I search for "pocket" in setting menu it lead me to "display". Maybe there are some bug with it so developers decide to hide this feature for the moment.
Just hope it will be available soon.

Does not work, can't find any pocket mode in setting.
Module is enable (I tested with extended reboot menu and I can select reboot to recovery etc.)
Explanation on the customiuizer said I can find pocket mode in lock screen - advance but its not there and nowhere to be found
I learned about this module from the user of the Polish forum and its work for him

Are you looking in your phone settings or in the module settings?
pocket mode is there
* on Gsi, in Display settings [1] + in custom settings (like crDroid) [2]
* on Miui, in lock settings [3]
my experience for several months is, that none of those setting avoid pocket incidents, nr. [3] drains battery extremely. So i just turn this off and live with it.

So it's not work well?
Had anyone try Tasker, just wonder if we can setup phone state like screen is locked and the screen is upside down to keep the screen off or something?
So we can just put the phone upside down in our pocket to enable pocket mode
BTW I'm not really good at tasker
Perhaps that's the reason Xiaomi hides the option and need to bring it back with customiuizer.
The touch of pocket is able to double tap, swipe up to reveal the emergency button, press it and then type phone numbers . Crazy. Also I'm able to unlock the phone by accidentally touching the phone in pocket.
I solved deleting all fingerprints and thus disabling fingerprint reader.
I know it's a drastic solution, but for me it's better to live with double tap to wake and pattern than get the phone auto-wakeup in my pocket.

Wait does that mean My Mate 20X has a proper Proximity sensor and not ultrasonic?
Because Mate 20X seems much more formidable and solid about where it detects Proximity versus Mi 9 where I could almost never figure out how/where the trigger for the Proximity sensor is. And this thing(screenshot) seemed to have disappeared from MIUI when using mi 9. And it would respond to touches in pocket all the time and I'd find Google assistant activated often time pulling it out of pocket
But I'm glad to see this here in Mate 20X again.

Is pocket mode already available in global/eea roms, can anyone confirm?

Hey,
I can't look at LG3 owners without being annoyed about how simple, useful and easy to use the double tap to wake option is implemented there. As for myself I had it with my Nexus 5 which I upgraded from but from my understanding almost all of the big OEM's such as Sony HTC and of course LG has that option.
It is beyod my understanding as to why samsung is the only one to not implement double tap to wake. Any idea's, and do you think we will ever have it?(might be only with a custom kernel but development is lacking at the moment in that area)
Edit: btw, as for a full explanation as to why that option doesn't compromise battery:
'' LG uses Qualcomms low power functionality on Snapdragon 800+ processors for D2TW and knock code. Together with a low power mode on the digitizer, this means that it will use nearly no power. ''
Had a G2 and G3 before, and tbh, the knock on/off feature is the only thing I miss ...
It would be even more useful on the note 4 due to its size.
My HTC One M8 has "knock to wake" and I find it genuinely useful. However, it only really works for me if I have the phone in my hand - it doesn't seem to register if my phone is sitting on my desk.
Given that the Note range has a physical home key, and you can wake it by pressing that, I do question how useful "knock to wake" would be on the Note.
Just my opinion though - you probably think otherwise.
Regards,
Dave

Hey, Ican Wake my Note 4 just Waveing my hand over it. Stock setting
You have a physical buttom in the fromt, so there is not point in having something that will just drain your battery a bit more.
With two ways to wake up the phone, the big physical home button and the side button who needs a third way?
Yes I miss double tap to wake-up, using app called WTN Settings and I double tap on the proximity sensor. Yes it leaves proximity sensor always on but I haven't noticed battery drain.

Hi guys, i'm here to show you my problem. I've update to Marshmallow today and now i'm on Android 6.0.1, firmware version T715XXU2BPD6. Everything works just fine but i have a problem with the fingerprint sensor. In fact, with lollipop (5.0.2) i used it for unlocking my tablet, now it forces me to use a password, sign or PIN instead of using ONLY fingerprint (which was really fast and secure for me). Now i'm asking: Does anyone has the same problem? Can i still use ONLY fingerprint sensor (and so i'm an idiot because i'm not capable of solving this) even with the latest android version? I hope someone can help

It's just a new security measure which happens only once after each reboot.
I don't think so. Actually i can only use the fingerprint sensor if i unlock the screen using a flip cover. If i unlock it by power button or home button it ask for a pin. And i've rebooted, closed and so on.

Strange this is not my case. I tried to unlock the screen by power button and it requires my fingerprint only.
I don't know what to tell you...the only thing that i know it's that everything described above never happened with Lollipop.

Hi, i didn't wipe because it was an OTA update, so it didn't ask for a full wipe. Maybe i should've done it after the installation
Dumb question, ate you using the power button to lock the screen or using an app? Apps force unlock via pin on marshmallow.

6.0.1 fingerprint lock-out
Hi
This is a variation of the problem cited by the OP.
When 6.0.1 was rolled out it came with a warning to make sure you have your password ... famous last words.
Galax Tab S2 SM-T710
I accidentally allowed the update to 6.0.1 a few months back but did not have the password because I never used it after day 1, always used fingerprint. So after the upgrade, when it says I can't use fingerprint enter password, I am stumped. Samsung or Android seem to think that a password that has not been used more than once 6 months ago is more secure than my fingerprint that is used several times a day. Can't figure out why, really.
I called Samsung, they won't roll it back.
I have seen the video that says tap build number 7 times to get to developer mode, that does not work. USB hack etc.
I have created another user but cannot access original users space. Only 3 Gb left most of it used by original log on - now locked out.
Device not registered on Samsung find my phone and Android device mngr won't apply a new password, because there already is one. I can ring it, locate it dho, its in my hand, I can lock it, dho it is locked already, that's the problem.
Who the **** at android or samsung decided to invalidate my chosen security measure, fingerprint, lock me out of my device and why???! Has there been a spate of pickpockets stealing phones and cutting off peoples fingers to unlock the phone?
So if I do not want to to do a hard reset and lose the original users data, is there a work around?
I have never rooted a device so be gentle with me. ; > )
security version mdfv2.0 r6.
vpn v1.4 r 6.1
patch level 2 april 2016
I guess if I could reset or overide the password I'd then be able to set upmy new fingerprint. The new user,me, can use fingerprint. Go figure.
Many thanks
Hi all,
I opened this topic as I did not find an easy way to prevent the screen to sleep when I read some news or anything else. (I mean avoiding to go through the lockscreen settings each time and change the sleep time)
It's very annoying to not have this feature nowadays in MIUI 9 ! I have tried all kinds of caffeine apps on the playstore, without success
There must be something not implemented within miui that prevents those apps to work.
Guys, did you experience the same on your side and is there a workaround or a working mod?
Thanks in advance
Well, Apparently I'm the only one who cares if it bothers me ! Every single rom since CM13 has this feature with a tile but the developers by MIUI have decided else.
Just wish this would be implemented natively but hum, wait and see if it comes with the next builds (hopefully)...

Yes, It can get annoying from time to time, having to touch the screen to keep it alive. I did try to find some apps but couldn't find any to get the job done.
Although, I do use this app called "Stream" (just google Stream app, it's the first app displayed) it's like a pop out player for Youtube, the size of the player is considerably small and yes it keeps my phone from going to sleep, so yeah listening to music and reading things. Gets the job done for me
Thanks xinie for your input
For info, I share with you a working app that keeps the screen on: No Screen Off on the playstore
It's very light (about 40 ko). Just toggle to enable and vice-versa. Then it returns in its previous settings.
Very simple and useful for those who are looking for a caffeine app missing on miui!

Ever since coming from previous custom ROMs I have missed the option/quick setting tile that enabled you to keep the screen on indefinitely.
MIUI 10 still doesn't offer this feature/function, but i was able to find an app that works well on the MIUI OS.
There's an app called Wakey on google play store that adds a quick setting tile to MIUI and doesn't bug out like other apps I've tried.

Too much steps/hassle. Would prefer just a toggle button when it's required when reading something and have it go back to 30 seconds when done when un-toggled.
Hi bseos, thanks for your input with wakey, good to know
Otherwise, here is the very small app No Screen Off (48 ko) I shared a while ago https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.k2.no.screen.off
No complication, just toggle and untoggle and nothing to set up
Two exact years later, no caffeine feature on miui 12 beta.
I arrived here looking for that, I'll try wakey app. Thanks.
Hello !! There is another app also, similar to Wakey. It is called Caffeine - Keep Screen On and works well, at least in MIUI 12. Keep in mind that having the screen on for long periods of time may damage your screen.
What is SideSqueeze?
SideSqueeze is an innovative and unique app that uses the barometric pressure sensor in your device to detect squeezes and screen presses. It is compatible only with Samsung Galaxy devices from 2017 onwards, although some people have reported varying degrees of success with Pixel devices.
What It Does
SideSqueeze gives your S8/S9/S10 series Galaxy the ability to respond to squeezes, double squeezes, triple squeezes, quadruple squeezes, long squeezes, and/or inertial squeezes, as well as force presses on the screen. For example, you can double squeeze your phone to activate Google Assistant...or maybe you'd like to quadruple squeeze to toggle auto-rotation. And now with Tasker integration, you can even create elaborate tasks to do just about anything and trigger them with any type of squeeze! SideSqueeze's new modular GUI allows you to pick and choose what you want to do with ease.
Features (not all available in trial version)
7 detectable squeeze types (single, double, triple, quadruple, long, long double-squeeze, and inertial)
3 detectable press types (single, long, and 2-finger)
Independently selectable criteria allow you to assign multiple actions to any trigger type (if lockscreen open, if homescreen open, if camera open, if S-Pen detached, if within 5-seconds of power on, if the phone is ringing, if in-call, or if screen is off)
New app picker to launch any app of your choosing
Tasker integration to launch any task of your choosing
Quick Settings tile to toggle detection engine
Wide selection of common actions, such as flashlight toggling, status bar toggling, etc
Adjustable pressure thresholds
Calibration assistant to customize SideSqueeze to your device's unique characteristics
Efficient detection algorithm that is designed to be as lightweight and low-power as possible with no significant impact on battery life
Questions?
See the in-app Help section for answers to commonly asked questions.
Where do I get it?
SideSqueeze 2 is now available on the Play store!

Interesting concept, but I think it's wrong. It's using the touch screen pressure as it's gauge from what testing and results I could fetch.
Correct me if am wrong but I didn't think devices had a sensor for pressure in the reference made out in this app???...

The app detects squeezes by monitoring the barometric pressure sensor inside your sealed device. An algorithm looks for changes of the proper type and magnitude that correspond to squeezing the sides, and an action is performed. Once you learn how to squeeze it, I find it to be reliable. The FAQ (and video clip) describe how best to do it.

Thank you! Yes, I'll be adding that soon.
Please add support for Tasker. It would be nice to be able to configure the squeeze on a per app basis.
I wanted to give it a try, but it says that the early access program is currently full
I have expanded the limit, and am working on bug fixes.
Great app! Can you provide us .apk so we can test on other devices? Play Store says app is not compatible with my SGS7.
I tried it and the squeezing is wildly inconsistent. On top of that it activates even when I'm scrolling the screen with one hand. Great concept, but doesn't work very well sorry.

It will not work with a case on, as the dev said, it detects slight changes within the frame, which would be absorbed by your case, and thus not transmitted to the body of the phone itself

I like the idea of it, I'm not facing any trouble when I remove my case and SQUEEZE! However, while using the Stand case for the note 8 (made by Samsung) I can't get it to work.
works with cases, just adjust sensitivity. one thing i noticed is that app gets killed quite easily.i have to constantly relaunch it. other than that, i feel like i have a pixel 2!

Just a heads up ,had the same problem of double tap to wake not working and any other screen off gestures. after few hours of fiddling came to know it has something do with the proximity sensor not being properly calibrated. Once I calibrated the sensor the issue was fixed for me ,sharing it in the interest so that it works for others too.
1. Enter engineering mode by entering *#808# on the dialer.
2.goto device debugging tab and select proximity sensor test
3. Make sure nothing covers your phone on top as instructed and tap the offset calibrate button multiple time until you see the text "pass" on screen.
4. That is all, now the double tap to wake should work along with other offscreen gestures

Yes
Should we put something at 2cm and then 4cm away from the phone when doing this calibration? It doesn't seem like we are calibrating if we just have the sensor pointing straight up at nothing? I have gone to the menu page for proximity calibration, but have not hit the offset calibrate button yet.
worked for me. Thx!
I didn't really locate the exact "offset calibrate button", but after simply hitting on a few of the options in that device debugging tab I got it up and running again. Thanks.

Should we put something at 2cm and then 4cm away from the phone when doing this calibration? It doesn't seem like we are calibrating if we just have the sensor pointing straight up at nothing? I have gone to the menu page for proximity calibration, but have not hit the offset calibrate button yet.

So the above worked for me, however, I clicked the calibration button one time and when it asked for me to put something 2cm/4cm away from the sensor, I used the back swipe gesture and left the calibration settings. Once I did that, my draw O for flashlight, tap to wake, notifications and ambient sensor started working again.

Thanks for the feedback. So it does ask to put something a 2cm/4cm away. That makes sense. I never did try it. I did settings/apps/show all apps/ show system apps/ambient display/ I cleared the cache and then restarted the phone. After that all was good and it kept working. That was a few days ago before the OTA update came down.

Step 2b: select infrared proximity calibration
Step 3b: follow instructions to place a planar object (my hand) at 2cm and then 4cm away from the top of the screen.
But it worked! Thanks OP
Doesn't work on mine either. However the only gesture that doesn't work is double tap, thankfully when I lift it now that works again.

Hopefully you will continue to be good from here on out! I have had zero problems with this device and started to love it again. Now my only pain point are the T-Mobile updates. Still waiting for the camera one to make its way to me and I am tentative about receiving future updates.

So you went into engineering mode and your double tap is still unresponsive?

Yes, however it's working now. I can put up with little bugs as long as they are eventually fixed. The only thing I don't like is showing somebody my nice new phone and having something not work ??
For those people who have this issue still, Oneplus afiirmed to have fixed/ improve DTTW and will release a stable OTA soon including other fixes

turn off single tap show then double tap should be works fine
i ran into this problem again this morning in low light after calibrating the proximity sensor and receiving the update that supposedly fixed the problem. will performing a factory reset restore whatever changes i made in the engineering mode?
