US repair alternative to Sony? (Damaged charging circuit.) - Sony Xperia XZ2 Questions & Answers

So, plugged my XZ2 into a Spanish hotel's USB provided power port and bam, phone rebooted itself and ever since the wireless charge doesn't work. Corded charging still works OK thankfully. Odd I know. Trying to charge the phone wirelessly when the phone is powered off and the LED goes red and the phone goes into a frozen state. Only able to recover it with the 2 minute reset trick. I've tried hard reset, flashing new firmware, nothing fixes it. Best guess is something in the charging IC was fried.
Anyways, I talked to Sony service about it in the US and... wait for it... since it's a Taiwanese variant, they won't touch it. I even said, don't care about the warranty state, I'll pay you. Nope. They said I'll have to talk to the service center in Taiwan as the two phones are "very different" (uh...ok...if you say so). Sigh.
So, does anyone know of a reputable place in the US that services Xperias? I'm in California but willing to ship it elsewhere if the price is right. Thx.

Funny.
As far as I know I have 2 GB more ram and a few more LTE frequencies in my H8296 running with H8266 firmware....
PS
Bought my Taiwan phone in eBay from a German seller and the seller said he will repair it under warranty if anything happens.

Technically they should be able to repair any unit regardless of the variant.
Asia usually have dual sim variant with 6gb ram, while in the US single sim with 4gb ram but the other parts except for the mainboard should be the same.

And don't forget the European dual sim variant with 4gb ram.
And the Canadian h8276.

First thing. Where did you buy your Note from?
BTW can you try to clean the SIM card by erasing it? Sounds like your SIM card or the radio is having a problem though.
i have try many different sim card and i buy that note in ebay germany.im live in finland!
have you tried using the phone in another area? the local mast may be over subscribed or faulty.
have you tried removing the microsd card. i found when my sd card was faulty or apps having problems then sometimes my signal was flaky as well and signal would come on and go off in a flash. deleting and reloading apps made no difference. now have new microsd card since yesterday and no issues since then even though have most of the old apps back.
try changing sim card to see if sim card is faulty.
try setting the phone to wcdma only or gsm only or gsm auto prl only via settings or codes to see if its flaky signal causing probs.
dont you have a receipt for purchase to prove purchase date and source of purchase. isnt that enough to prove phone is under warranty..
i just read my warranty card which came with the phone. it says ...
on page 1. customer signature and delaer stamp and signature! mine came from amazon.de and does not hace any amazon stamp or signature. but i do have a receipt from amazon by email. guess they wont open the box for stamping warraty card as box says seal should be intact when customer gets phone in the box. so warranty card cant actually be signed for internet sales as seal will have to be broken on the box.
also says warranty is only valid when card properly completed and upon presentation of roof of purchase consisting of original invoice or sales slip indicating date of purchase, dealers name, model, serial number, and product number.
write to samsung with copy of your invoice and see if they will accept that as proof of purchase even though warranty card is missing.
in the UK the sale of goods acts gives additional benefits for six years apart from guarantee. see if there is anything similar in your country to see if they can do the warranty service / repair / replacement if needed. best of luck

What does the warranty carard specifically state?
From Samsung UK's website:
Samsung Electronics (UK) Ltd support a product purchased in Europe if it has an EU Bloc Warranty. This warranty is present where the top of the product warranty card clearly states 'European Bloc'. If the product is purchased in another part of the globe then Samsung may attempt a repair. Samsung Electronics (UK) Ltd cannot guarantee the outcome.

Does it say EU Bloc Warranty? If so, I guess you should be ok.
Regards,
Dave
I phoned Samsung UK before I brought my Note from Amazon Germany. The Samsung rep said all Note brought and used in EU have 2 years warranty.
Samsung should be able to identify your phone by its IMEI and/or serial number under the battery and on the side of the box. I don't see the point of warranty card, your Note can't be more than 4 months old.
Through it and get a new one~~~~ai^^^^^
surely you will have samsung centres in your country. try contacting them in writing if they refuse over the phone or when you go there.
my warranty card says you can take it to any authorised dealer or service centre in any EC country.
mine was from germany as well (amazon.de) so yours should have come with the same conditions. so contact amazon if you bought it from amazon. or your local samsung service centre.
If it was new your ebay seller's bill is proof of purchase and acts as a warranty.
Present that to Samsung.
If it wasn't new ask the ebay seller for the purchase receipt or bill or at least a copy of it.
Have u try put your sim in others phone? Most probabily your sim is problem..

[Q] S-Pen Digitizer Help

My S-Pen stopped working. I tried another one and it didn't work either. There were a few brief moments where it worked, once after a wipe of the ROM and once after switching the right-left handedness of the pen. Now it doesn't work anymore, ever. It is probably just a coincidence, but I started having problems some time after flashing CM9. It seems like a hardware problem, but if it is software is there anything else I can try?
Have you tried going back to stock gb via odin and testing it again. If it doesn't work on stock its probably hardware related, you can claim under warranty

Thanks for the response.
Yup, I tried going back to stock GB. No luck.
My phone does not have a warranty. Oh well.
why does it not have warranty ? it should still be in the 12-24month limit.
Is it on contract ? Usually network providers have a warranty that lasts the length of the contract. Mine does (vodafone UK)
So if samsung wont repair it, your carrier might.

I bought an international Note it from Negri in the US. I thought there was no warranty, but it may be with the manufacturer outside of the US. I contacted them (Negri) for support yesterday and will see what happens.
Update:
Negri said I had to go to Samsung. Samsung's web site did not recognize my phone and directed me to their help line 1-888-987-4357. They said they do not support unlocked phones. They forwarded my call to someone 'who can help you with unlocked phones.' I explained the problem and was just about to get my warranty work done when they said oh, you are in the US we are in CANADA, I can't help you. Now back to Negri.
I also noticed that if I twist my phone just right the pen starts working again. Re-seating the connectors did not help.

[Q] Galaxy Note International version problem and service in the US

Hi guys
A month ago I had the OTA update problem (the 7mb or so update which broke the phone) and the phone wouldn't turn on properly. The samsung logo was glowing and that's it. I didn't have time back then and just was using another phone. Yesterday, I tried to fix it since I saw that some people fixed it on forums. But unfortunately it did not show any signs of life even though I charged it and tried pressing every button configuration.
1) I wonder if I can still fix this by myself,
if not 2) Do you think services in the states would help me with this given that I haven't bought this device from any US retailer like T-Mobile or AT&T.
Thanks so much for your help!
Best.

Actually I was going to use it but I can't get to the recovery or download menus since the phone does not respond at all. It looks like it's hard-bricked. There is no sign of life at all.
Do you guys think that when there's no sign of life at all it's related to a problem in the motherboard?

Vol down + home button + power button = vol up = download mode

1.) Don't aggravate the problem and give yourself some slack...
2.) Of course why would they not? you have an unlock version right? you can send that phone for a repair but bear in mind shipping and handling would be taken care of by the shipper itself, and read the repair policies thoroughly. There are a lot of after sale services in many counties and states here in the U.S. But I am not in the best position to give you where and what company I would recommend to you, since that would be tantamount to promoting the service of that company already. Just look for it or google it. I'm sure you'll find a decent one.
Cheers!
Why are you giving this misinformation? Call Samsung USA and they will tell you just like they told me that this phone was not intented to be sold in US and thus Samsung USA will not repair it!!! If you want to, you have to send the phone to the Samsung repair center in the country where the phone was purchased or better intended to be sold.Samsung USA will not help you at all after you give them IMEI number of the phone. This is true story, happened to me with Galaxy S2, bought via Expansys USA intended to be sold in England.

HI
I bought the phone from http://www.technotradinghouse.com earlier this year ( so the manufacturer warranty has not run out)
and I also have the CPS warranty...
What avenues do I have for service ?
I understand the phones have a "limited international warranty" and one can always say that they bought the phone when living in another country...
G
UPDATE:
Called the USA number listed on the Samsung Global website for international warranty.
They told me to send the device to the service center in Hong Kong, as "the device is manufactured in china"
Seriously Samsung still believes US costumers who buy "superior" devices like the N7000 against the "inferior" SGS717 don't
have any knowledge of say the "world map" or where the devices are manufactured these days...
I am all for Samsung, because they have a unlocked bootloder, and good devices in general (in the international marker) otherwise I would have easily switched
to Motorola... but thanks to the US cell-phone-provider dictatorship we will still have the same problems... The downsides of being in a
capitalist country...
The work around for this is to buy the international device from a registered dealer in Mexico, and then avail of the warranty from Samsung Mexico, which
wont be as expensive as sending the device over to "China", I wish some ingenious Mexico entrepreneur setups a ONLINE shop for selling phones to the US
there ain't any... The N7000 is available in Mexico... They don't sell it with a free-AK47, otherwise I would have dared crossing the border here...

Salvaged Motherboard: IMEI Question

Ok, firstly, I know certain discussions about IMEI are NOT acceptable on these forums. I am confident that none of my questions cross that line, but if any do, I request a moderator to please let me know and I will edit the post accordingly.
My current situation: I have an ATT Note 3 with a dead motherboard. It is my own phone, off-contract, unlocked, clean IMEI, no other problems. Like an idiot, I decided to see if the phone could swim and apparently it does not (motherboard died due to water damage). I have had it tested by some qualified people and they tell me that the screen still works fine, digitizer works, its just the motherboard that has a short and will no longer power on. They are unable to do any component replacements to fix it for me.
My proposed solution: Buy a busted Note 3 from ebay and salvage the motherboard from it to replace the one in my device. This should give me back a fully functional phone. NOTE that I am no longer in the US and will be using this phone in India and Europe for the most part. So, as long as I am buying a replacement phone, I figure I should just buy a T-Mobile device, since these come with unlocked bootloaders, making it much simpler for me to do whatever I want to with my phone.
My Questions:
1) I already know that a T-Mo motherboard can be swapped into an ATT frame. BUT does anybody know if the same is possible with the other carriers, Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular? Yes, I am aware that the first two are CDMA carriers, but they do come with a SIM slot for use internationally on GSM networks. I ask because ebay consistently has busted phones from these providers going for much lower than ATT and T-Mo.
2) What is the difference, if any difference exists, between a "BAD ESN" and "ESN Blacklisted"? I only lived in the US for a couple years for college and have no idea how these lists work. I do know that devices with BAD ESN or Blacklisted ESN sell for much cheaper on ebay. The description usually says they will not work in the US, but will work without issue abroad. HOWEVER, to the best of my knowledge, if a phone has any ESN issues, and was not already unlocked, it is not possible to unlock them anymore. Is this true?
3) This is the part where mods might get mad at me. Without asking for details on how, this is just a straight up yes or no question. Are device IMEIs wedded to carriers in anyway? For those that understand what I am driving at, my thinking is simple: I have an ATT Phone with a Clean ESN that is also unlocked, but won't power up. Can I do some 'magic' with a T-Mobile motherboard with a bad ESN? To make that more clear, I know for a fact that I can do this with a replacement ATT board that I pick up. But then I end up with a locked bootloader again. I just wonder if this is possible with a T-Mo motherboard.
Again, I am NOT asking how any of this can be done, just whether it matters when the network changes. I know that ATT and T-Mo share their blacklists, so I am assuming this should also work, but if anybody can say yes or no, it would be much easier to decide on what busted up phone I buy on ebay.
Never mind ... Found a guy who fixed the motherboard for me! Now I have a new problem, the damn display no longer works... But this should be easier, just have to find ANY phone that still has a working LCD and then VERY carefully salvage the display.
If a moderator sees this, I guess they can lock this thread. Would have still liked to know the answer, if only for the sake of knowledge, but clearly this is not going to get answered anytime soon

Question Is there a Dual SIM Snapdragon S21 Ultra model?

Is there a Dual SIM Snapdragon S21 Ultra model? If yes, what’s the model number?
The specs at GSMArena say:
Single SIM (Nano-SIM and/or eSIM) or Dual SIM (Nano-SIM and/or eSIM, dual stand-by)
So it looks like at least one of the models is dual sim (and it's mentioned in the description on the Samsung website) - but there's no indication which model it might be.
Samsung support said my unlocked 512gb will be dual sim - but it took a lot of time on the phone researching and calling other people for them to find that info. Not even sure if it’s true at this point. It’s very strange how this is so difficult to figure out
HK unit should have dual sim according to my supplier.

The Hong Kong variant has Dual Physical SIM's but no E-Sim. Regardless of which country you use it in you'll get timely updates as they are provided by Samsung, not your local service provider.

Why not? No carrier bloatware, dual sim's, unlocked bootloader, fast updates and the only call features you won't have are CA and 5G which at this time is more of a promotional gimmick than a useful feature.

What about the US unlocked version? I don't care about unlocked bootloader, I know how to remove/disable all bloatware. And, the speed of updates don't matter as much as they used to. This isn't 2012.
In India we have the dual sim exynos variant (Sim1 - PHY, Sim2 - PHY or esim) if you put in a physical Sim in the 2nd Sim position then esim gets disabled. If you use esim then the 2nd Sim is disabled.

Nope. I mean, I wasn't aware that it doesn't support dual physical SIM. But right on their website on the S21U page, it says that no US versions support eSIM. So I'm gonna go ahead and say that the answer is, unfortunately, no =/
But the good thing is that (probably with any unlocked version of the phone) you can just carry around both of your SIM cards and the sim pin tool in a really small, durable canister... You'd just have to turn off the phone and then swap the SIM cards whenever you wanted to change your service. It'd be slightly more annoying, but still doable!

from what I can gather, after a LOT of trying . . . there is no dual sim US version samsung phone. This from a lot of searching and phone conversations with several tech and sales personnel on the phone with Samsung. For this reason, I bought a non US version which broke the Samsung Health Monitor app and does not work for 5G within the USA. other than that it seems to be behaving nicely on the Tmobile US based network.

Ive tried that solution and its a lot more problematic than it might seem. I need the extra sim because I travel overseas and my US carrier starts complaining when my roaming data goes large (even tho they advertise "unlimited"). that means i would need to remember to turn off mobile data everytime i change the card. also the tool gets lost and bent and you can actually bend or break those sim trays after a lot of changing . . . not to mention losing sim cards on a bumpy train or taxi. I hate to invoke Murphy, but you can be assured that when a super important call is trying to come in it will not be on the line associated with the sim card currently installed. Sim swapping can also cause minor problems with messaging apps like whatsapp and telegram that could be a whole new thread. The only real viable solution for a frequent traveler is a dual sim phone with sim 2 used for mobile data in the locale physically present in. Second to that is carrying two phones. Least desireable (at least for me) is frequent sim swapping. That's my experience and humble opinion after years of very heavy international travel.
SM-G9980 has dual SIM fully working. I know for a fact because that's the version I have. }
I'm from Chile and the phone does everything I want it to do.
I have the 9980. It is fully dual sim but does not do 5G in the US. Occasionally I don't get data in some places in the US even when I have 5 bars. I'm guessing there are other bands this device misses. But that's rare. Everything is a compromise in life!
One good piece of news is that the T-MOBILE NOTE20 ULTRA now has it's esim activated. So if you are predominantly in the US this is the combo you need as it's dual sim and 5G in the US. The hope is that they do this with more devices including the s21.
