Hello,
I have a new Xperia Z3 Compact.
I have bought it 7 - 8 days ago.
OS: 4.4.4 (23.0.A.93)
- Network was adjusted as 3G/2G in % 50 of total period, and next % 50 period only 2G
- Stamina mode was always active
- Autosynch: Off
- Brightness: Auto (about % 20 setting)
- Below is my screenshots.
- They say that this is not enought for a Z3 compact.
- So please what is your advice for improving my battery life.
Thanks
Umm, it doesn't get much better than that.
I m getting 0,2% per hour at idle
- Sync off, default settings for most of them
- Google settings disabled for most of them
- Bloatwares disabled through ADB, see the related thread somewhere in Z3 Compact section
- Most of notifications from apps have been disabled
- Apps that attempt to sync or send datas, disable those options
- Wifi sets as not always (2nd option)
- Install BBS and see the amount of awake and if there are suspicious wakelocks (only kernel)
To sum up, disable most of Google services, its one of most reasons for battery life draining
Do not use them unless you need it (i only use Gmail, Books and Maps)
Is it really necessary to disable so much of the functionality? I have Google Now enabled, sync on, stamina mode enabled, and get 2 to 3 days usage with between 4 and 6 hours of screen on time.
I am attempting to avoid Google services and apps
Google and their own services are the main cause of battery life drain, they implemented their apps and services in a way of making it as indispensable.
In the other hand, i have perfectly stable system and my phone would last more longer and doesn't waste battery life at idle
Is this a joke?
It has to be i think
I agree that this is pretty good tbh, but in trying to help: have you disabled or uninstalled all the extra apps that you don't use? There's a thread about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/apps-disabled-boot-t2892919
Removing Facebook is a must for me as I prefer to use or within a browser and like another has said above I also disable Google apps that I don't personally use (in my car Books, Games, Movies & Newsstand). Sony have also put their own apps on the phone, many of which duplicate the functions of Google apps such as messaging, Walkman or are just unnecessary such as Account Manager, Info Eye, Video Unlimited.

Thanks for your reply. I have already done what you mentioned. And i am checking your link now
Who said that it has 10 days of battery usages? Ofc put it on ultra stamia mod and don't use the phone you have you're 10 days. Otherwise you can't expect a smartphone to last that long it's not possible.

You got nearly 3 days of use with more than 3 hours of calls and 4.5 hours of SOT and stil 37% left. Its almost miraculous. I dont get anywhere near that. I never saw anyone who did.
But then you ask how you can improve it!...thats why i ask if its a joke because surely you cant be serious
I buyed this phone because it is a smartphone. If I needed only battery life I would buy a nokia 1100. So, what's the catch paying 400 euros on a phone and use it like a 20 euros phone? It seems hilarious to me.

as i explained that was why i bought this phone. for 10 days standby time.
so as far as i see it is not true
It will give you 10 days, Probably more. If you do not use it at all. The quoted times are always BS figures that are practically unachievable in the real world. But I have to agree with others here, if you want a phone that can give you 10 days of use, by a Nokia featurephone.
What part of "standby" is hard to understand? Believe the estimated battery life. That should give you a good idea. If you really do keep your phone in standby you may even go upto 15 or more days. But it should be standby in the purest sense.
Getting more than 3 days with a few screen hours is easily feasible, but getting more than that is impossible.
The Stamina widget did give me 12 days once but it was a mistake I think, a little glitch in the matrix :silly:
Whats up with people buying a Compact and then expecting miracles? Its already unbelievable good.
Don't forget about GSM singal strength. If you are close to BTS and have ~90% of signal strength and not using your phone you maybe will get 10 days .
It is similar like fuel consumption in car catalog it is always lower then in real usage..
Best Regards.
Hi guys,
The main reason I moved from OnePlus 3T to this Moto X4 is for the great battery life. But ever since i bought the phone i am not running on good mileage. It is rather decent but battery percentage decreases quite a lot. Unable to find the right culprit for this.
Currently I have rooted and running Magisk and running on Oreo (Retin, XT1900-2 India).
It goes from 90 to about 15 percent in a day with decent Whatsapp, Facebook (app changed to Fella), and Messenger, and from time to time I use Google drive, watch little video clips (low quality from Whatsapp).
Screen time is about 3-4 hours, in the span of 24 hours. My home is situated in a half sort of signal zone (constant 4G network, no 3G or 2G, Jio network) and 90 percent of the time I use Wifi (ac/n).
In contrast I have a Xiaomi Redmi 5A (office use, costs 77 usd currently) runs for 3-4 days on a single charge!
In Magisk I tried the Google GMS core (i think thats the name) doze and it freezes my Whatsapp notifications and others, I need these notifications, so I disabled and am running normally.
Is there a particular thing that I can use or test or try out to find out what is going on in my phone? OR would you consider that this is usual for this phone?

Nope, it's not normal. With wifi usage I get 7.5 hrs SOT on average. When I am out of station, I use Jio sim for accessing internet. I also use gps and maps in such case and still manage to get 6 hrs of SOT.
Thanks for that confirmation. Looks like something would be wrong then with the hardware.
There's something really wrong with your x4.
I have more or less the same daily usage and in the end of the day I still have more than 50% of battery.
i'm not usung my phone heavy, but always on bluetooth, wifi, momile data and gps, checking facebook instagram and those others social media few times throu the day, sometimes pokemon go. and i have 4-5h on screen time. max 20h in total (android 7.1.1 reteu)
Moto display is culprit
This phone has bad battery life. My moto g5 plus last longer.
yes i can confirm this behaviour. i guess this is largely after the oreo update and even before the update i didn't like the battery life as much which was may be the case because i was coming from yu yunicorn with 4000 mAh battery. so i don't know may be it's the oreo update issue or may be it's only a few models like ours that are affected. either way i'm really concerned as i'm really in love with this phone and don't wanna get a new one any time soon... ?
IDK how much it helps but go into developer settings and disable mobile data always active. It was on by default after I updated to oreo
Wow. I just picked up this phone, X4, to take advantage of a Sprint special.... The 2 days I have had it, the battery has been horrible. I turned off Moto display so I'll see if that helps. Otherwise, I don't have Facebook or any other social media app. I have 1 hour 39 minutes of SOT today and I'm at 15% battery. I'm seeing reports the Oreo update is when this started. Hoping this can get fixed with Pie and soon!
Any tips or tricks would be great! Thanks.
Here is an overnight view on WiFi. So 14 minutes of SOT with Google play services using 35% battery. Any suggestions? This is really hard to believe. I'm likely going to try and return phone I guess.
Did you reset your phone or restore backup?
Hello. Yes, I did a factory reset at the end of day 1. I just turned off background activity for Google play services so hopefully that will help.
Hi,
I recently bought a galaxy s10 and I'm wondering if the batterylife is rly so "Bad" or if there is something wrong with my Software.
I have a screenshot attatched. This was a Day with biking (Navigation in background) and only liddle screen on time.
Before I had a xiaomi Mi 9t pro and i was able to use the Phone for two days without charging. Even sot of 7 hours or more.
Why is my s10 not Even lasting "one day".?
Seems to me Q is the culprit
Are you on Android Q yet? My S10 used to reach 30-40+ hours of battery time on P (mostly web whatsapp and regular phone calls, no games at all, see pic).
After upgrading to Q, juice can't even give me 30 hours. As I see it, in my case Q is clearly the culprit.
SOT is not a valid metric for me, as I'm always on web whatsapp -- lots of use, screen always off.
I am Android 9 with the AT&T firmware G975U model. I can get around 25 or 26 hours out of it before I have to recharge it.
Yes I'm on Android Q.
I think it's due to aod and Google Service.
With the Installation of gms fix Module of magisk the betterylife got better. Also im using the adaptive battery Management setting and disabled aod. Now it's only on when I received a message, which is fine for me.
Now im getting through a Day, but still it's not that impressive compared to other phones (one plus and so on)
So i got my S21 Ultra a couple of weeks ago and the battery life isn't as good as people tell it to be... I wonder if this is normal or i have a faulty unit
Important: i am running the latest update on my exynos device (february security patch as of the making of this thread)
What do you expect? You have used the phone almost 12 hours, used Samsung Music for nearly 8 hours and still have 78% battery left lol. This is great.

The SoT is pretty crap i can only get 5 to 6 hours if i'm lucky, all i do is watch youtube and netflix and nothing else pretty much, and since SoT is pretty important to me idk if i should wait for an update or get another unit
If you are comparing to a Chinese phone, I would agree that the battery life is not great. Before buying S21 Ultra(exynos), I was using Mi 10T pro. It has better battery performance than S21 Ultra. The other thing that I dislike about would be the heat issue on S21 Ultra. Its horrible.
SOT is only one measure of battery life, the battery still depletes when the screen is off, especially if you're doing something like listening to music for 7 hours......
If you saw the YouTube 'battery drain' tests, the majority are in a room, mobile turned off and on WIFI. They are in constant use with minimal ramping/up down of the processor as they only switch apps every hour. These guys achieve up to 9 hours with constant use in optimal conditions.
If you extrapolate out your current usage you're on for 7 hours with 51 hours total, which is very very strong. People would kill for that endurance
At best you can expect 0.5% an hour drain if you aren't using the phone, but that's if you literally leave it overnight and don't touch it. More likely it'll be between 1-2% depending on usage, so if you calculate you've had roughly 10 hours of screen off, that's about 10% battery that isn't being used on screen on time, which equates to roughly an hour of SOT 'missed out on' if you were just to run the device with the screen on for the sake of it.
If you're truly only concerned about SOT, run a day without music in the background and see the improvement. It's a nonsensical thing to do as that's not how you use your phone, but will get you the numbers you want...
You're also using a high end processor and a large screen with a high refresh rate, it's going to use more juice than a mid range or low end phone. If you send that phone back, someone else is going to be very happy when they get it as their replacement

With my s21 ultta i can easily achieve 10-12hours of sot with browsjng and youtube on wlan with total runtime of 48hours.on mobile data its a good 35% less (also cause of brighter screen outdoors) but Overall its good battery life for me (note im debloated and using Samsung browser with darkmode!!)
I'm doing OK on the battery. Turned off goggle discover on side screen has helped aswell as 5g disabled as I don't have it where I live atm

Yes if you want the same smoothness and a good 10% better battery you can use the 96hz mod
Put brightness on manual. The display eats a lot of the battery. Try to keep it at 50% or less.
Turn off all animations and use dark mode/dark wallpapers. Junk like tic-tok, fb don't help.

Fb is malware, I don't care who or what's on it, it's off limits. Instagram... no way.
Tweeter just as bad as fb. Full boycott on all that junk until they f-f-fade away
Been using manual brightness control for over a year on my 10+. Occasionally I toggle it on but rarely. Going full brightness will greatly reduce OLEDs finite lifespan. Blue goes first... and the burnout isn't even. If I can get 5 years with just a battery change or two, I want it.
So far between Samsung's and Android's weak offerings I have zero incentive to upgrade hardware or firmware

Crap like Twitter and fb can cost you your job as well as privacy leading you open to attacks of all kinds. Zero rewards and lots of risk. No.

Has there been testing on the battery effect of different wireless network modes, including while being connected to Wi-Fi?
I understand that 5G uses more battery, but I'm curious how that is affected when you remain connected to Wi-Fi for all data transfers (using 5G just for calls and texts).
Same question for the other network modes, like LTE/3G/2G vs LTE/2G etc. Or also when you are not connected to Wi-Fi.
I can't help worry that some people are getting bad battery life because they have a poor network signal?
Only rough but very little difference between 4g and WiFi when still, and that's in a location with 2 bars signal. Seems like the phone sleeps better with mobile data on.
It's hard to make a direct comparison with WiFi Vs network, as a lot of the network drain is when moving and polling for new antenna. When looking at signal strength, 4g/5g have the same dBm and 3g/2g have the same dBm, but 4g needs less dBm for a higher transfer rate than 3g, so may use less power over time.
Also I don't think 5g is inherently more power hungry than 4g (I may be wrong), again it's just less available and shorter radio waves, and until now 5g has relied on external modems.
Exactly, I wonder if our S21 Ultra is much better with battery life on 5G, because our SoC includes the 5G modem and it's not external?
My desire is to just keep my phone on 5G while I'm at home idle and the phone is connected to home Wi-Fi. I wonder if there is a battery savings to be had if I switch to LTE while I'm at home on Wi-Fi and the phone is just idle.
During intensive initial days I get 4-5 SOT and 12h use time. This is with mid heavy usage.
My battery starts today attached:
- over 7h music streaming partially on Chromecast partially bt
- over 1h YouTube (45min in browser)
- 40min Teams video call
- over 30min photos and videos in two camera apps
- 1h of Opera browsing
- Gmail, messenger, maps and all other apps in constant synchronization
- last.fm and pebble running in background
From the list you can clearly see that the only stand behavior is connected to AOD which was over 1%/h so I have disabled it.
Hello
As I understand in my daily use, mixed WiFi - 4g, you can reach 5h.30min ost. Maybe is necessary some adjustments on 4g/5g modem, it sucks a little bit of battery WiFi is the best, the graph is linear.
Attached my mixed 4g/WiFi experience, during today. I forgot kill YouTube, I did 2hr screen total. As you can see in WiFi the graph is linear (untill the middle), while on 4g (2nd half), the curve began to drop more steeply.
Starting to learn how to use this phone.
No complains at all. Can't kill the battery in one day. Most of the screen time is at evenings at lower brightness but I do work so it's my natural usage.
After disabling always on screen, 5G, Google tracking and backup I easily get over 6h SOT and less than 40% battery drain during 24h.
Battery is very good and there's no doubt about it.
I get about 3.5h SOT for 80% battery, no 5g, no AOS, dynamic mode, screen 90hz, no gaming, no apps with heavy drain
I lost 3% over 9 hours last night while the phone was on my bedside table, this was the first night,i think the phone is deep sleeping properly?i have restricted quite alot of apps from running in background

7.5+ hours of SOT is possible. Here I reach 7 hours and 13 minutes of SOT from 90% to 8%. Ultra durable mode, no 5G, no mobile data always active in developer options, all WiFi, and Facebook services disabled. Brightness is set to auto.
To those who's looking for compact phone, superb performance, 120hz display, great speaker, and good battery life, go on with Zenfone 8. Here's my SOT on my Zenfone 8 with force 90hz enabled. Cheers
It looks like the last update improves the battery life quite a bit. Only free hours so no hard claims but the impression is heavy.

thank you for the reply, but could you be more specific? the drain you mentioned is per hour or per entire night?
It's per hour.
You can get probably less when switching off connection of data. I am leaving the phone fully ready as I have used it during the day - just put in ultra durable mode.
Jusr for info, after watching a teardown video I realized he battery is actually 3835mah not 4000 !
