Battery drains quickly... while plugged in! wtf?!

okay so this is a new problem... if I plug my tilt in to my car charger, the battery actually drains faster than if it's unplugged... about a percentage a minute... when I come home and plug it... it charges regularly. I've tried 2 different roms, 3 different radios and 2 different car chargers... any ideas? been doing a lot of soft resets lately, wondering if that would burn the battery out?
new revelation!
okay so after my car charger "drains" my battery... I put the regular charger in and charge it from 74% to 85% in about 20 minutes... then I took the battery out and put it back in.. upon reboot my battery is at 97%... does this mean the car charger is somehow ACTUALLY charging the battery but for some reason making the phone think it's discharging it... this is tricky.

is the battery heating up while it is charging in the car?
I don't think so... I'm not 100% but I'd probabally remember something liek that
I just remember it was dropping like crazy after I plugged it in.. once it jumped from 39% to 34% when I was using it while it was plugged in for 4 minutes

sorry, should have asked in my first post but are you running TomTom or similar?
no, no abnormal software... even turned off the 3g and wifi... I'm starting to think it's not actual battery drainage because of how fast it's dying.... it dropped to 2% and shut itself off last night when I plugged it in.. took 5 minutes to go from 28% to "dead" then when I was charging it in my house that night it slowly went from 0% to 45% then it jumped to 98% and was full.. I'm so confused
Maybe let the battery drain out all the way so the phone won't even turn on, and then charge it back up. I've never heard of this happening before, but I know the phone has to "calibrate" the battery, for lack of a better word. Draining the battery all the way lets the phone set a "zero point". I dunno if it will help, but it would be worth a try.
haha it kinda did that on it's own last night... recharged it, it's got the same problem as of 20 minutes ago.. maybe it'll work itself out.... but I really need to be able to plug it into my car.
This is my second Tilt I'm playing with as the first one after I messed around with started to act funny.
1) Battery would be 100% - I wake up 6 hours later and it's dead.
2) Network consistently was being dropped even though it stated I was connected.
I've spend 5 hours on this site reading now and still don't know if I've learned much lol
Good luck to you...
Check the USB port. Is it slightly bent on the right side? I had this same problem & had to RMA. I confirmed that there was higher discharge using SK Tools & Anton Tomov Batery Meter. However, home charger still worked fine.

YES! the usb port looks a little messed up on the very last pin.. WTF? it looks squished or something... RMA? that doesn't sound good.. I hope I dont have to RMA... what's RMA? but yes there is definately something messed up about the right side of the USB port

Hmm... I would charge to 100% (or near enough) unplug it and then put the media player on and play it solid on repeat until the battery dies. Then charge it up to full again and see if there is any difference. These batteries don't have a memory as such, but as the previous poster said it may have got itself slightly 'confused'
Same problem here with a carcomm cradle for the TyTN II,. When I plug my phone in, the orange light comes on, the phone says it is charging but the battery just seems to drain faster and after a couple of minutes the light goes out. I have BatteryStatus installed, when I connect the phone to my pc with the standard usb/synch cable BatteryStatus shows +0mW for a short while and after a few seconds it'll say it's at +1300mW or something like that.
In the car when I put the phone in the cradle it'll show +0mW for a few seconds, then around -250mW (Idle) and the orange light turns off...
But I actually caught it charging once with +22mW when turning it on (from standby). I tried all obvious things, softresetting the phone while charging etc. But nothing helps, the cradle is connected straight to the carbattery.

check your USB port... is your's messed up too?? you know what? I probabally accidently poked the stylus in mine while trying to reset a couple days ago... since I tried to do 20 resets when I was rom upgrading and adding software...

Just checked and yes it is, stylus thing happened to me also once....
It's a little bend downwards (when having the screen on top) @ the last 2 pins...
well looks like we've narrowed down the problem.. and it looks like the fix is gonna cost $80!!

anyone know of a solution we could try out? my other phone (s710) had a USB cover so this never happened

What kind of carcharger do you have? Been reading about this problem and alot of ppl say the charger needs to be able to put out at least 1A for the phone to charge, I used some cheap cigarettelighter charger that was rated @ 650mA. It worked but charged so slowly that it would've taken days to fully charge. And besides that it didn't last long, 3 days before it blew the fuse and some more parts (worked for 2 secs after replacing the fuse)
I've tried several different ones... I think that since 3 people on this site all seem to have a "crushed" pin in our USB ports that's probabally the issue... now.. about a fix...
The amperage on your charger doesn't really matter. 1 amp is recommended so that you can use the device while charging, and the rate at which the battery charges does not diminish. If you used a 500mA charger, and had wi-fi & gps on, and media player blasting, for example, the battery may not charge at all because all the power coming from the charger is being used immediately. 1 amp chargers remedy this problem. Hope this makes sense, I've been having problems finding the correct words to express my ideas lately. Probably just stressed out! It sounds like the bent pin on the usb port may be resulting in a V+ pin shorting to ground (or V-). Which would drain the battery quickly. When you use battery power or charge the battery, it is normal for the battery to get warm. When you plug yours into the car charger (the one that drains it) does the battery get abnormally hot? This would indicate a short. Maybe try to put a real thin piece of film or something under the bent part of the port to insulate it while charging and see if that fixes it. This might offer a temporary fix until you get a new port. Maybe you could spend some time learning how to solder! I had to fix a broken port on a wizard a those solder points are friggin' tiny. Hope I could help. Good luck.

this sounds like it makes a lot of sense... I've got big clumsy hands, man I wish I had been more careful... well looks like I'm gonna be out $80! but quick question.. why would the wall charger operate normally while the car charger reverses charge?

tytn 2 not charging

hi!
i was just wondering, my tytn 2 is not charging, when i look at the battery meter, it says charging, but instead of going up. it goes down, the amber light
the signals charging is gone.
im sure its not the battery. coz i did get a charger, the one where u put probes on the + and - terminal of the battery, it charged. the battery is working now. however, i couldnt charge via the phone.
the red light came up before which indicates not charging so what do i do now?
someone suggested to hard reset it. i tried it but nothing. still the same. i reflashed it... nothing... now using the hyperdragon rom... still the same...
any ideas?
btw, when i plug in the charger, amber light is there... however, not for long, light turns off, but the charging / plugged into the charger symbol is there
as far as my personal experience goes, i have noticed this behavior only when the battery overheats while charging. in the hottest weather, this has NEVER happened for me. it only happens sometimes if my device screen is on WITH wifi WITH bluetooth WITH data connection WITH some heavy processing program running. this causes heating of the components and also leaves little power to charge the battery, because most of the charger's power is being redirected to power the components in use.
so, the device will charge for a few minutes and will interrupt the charging if the temperature rises. the charging will resume again when the temperature comes back down.
you can test if this is happening with your device by observing how long it charges before stopping, first without a fan and then with a fan blowing over the battery with the back cover removed.
if the charging lasts longer when the device is being cooled with a fan, then you are likely facing temperature issues.

solved my problem...
i was so pissed, all the solutions did not work... i decided to open it up
when i opened it, i saw that there is some dirt / corrosion on some lines
cleaned each and every one of them.
while it was open, plugged in the battery... then the charger...
after 2 minutes... battery bar went up! it is now charging!!! and
best thing... it also syncs!
Good to know that you solved your problem.

Guys please urgent :((

I have an xperia z1. had it for like 3 months and yesterday all of a sudden the battery started showing like 50 % 4% 90% random numbers. Then it got stuck on 50% and i couldnt charge it. I left it all night the battery was dead. I meassured it and it was 2.78 Volt. I tried to charge it from the dock port of the Z1 . I meassured the voltave coming to the battery when the charger was connected and it is 1.7V . Tried with many charges the voltage doesnt change. What is the faulty part here ? I tried volume up + power button, it vibrates 3 times but still black screen. My status LED is dead so i cant say if it is chargin or not. Also if i press the power button it vibrates 1 time but doesnt power up. What could it be ?
Thank you all
I charged the battery outside of the phone and its working perfectly. Now i know the phone aint charging the battery. Why is it so low on voltage ? Neither usb or dock do charge it normally ? What is it ?
i think charging electronic is broken. maybe it got wet inside somehow or someone has connected the magnet charge cable wrong and damaged it
Battery level change randomly because the batteri cable is loose.. Or u need to change the battery as if u let it be like that it may cause other hardware problem

I cant find a battery to test it if its the battery fault. But i dont think its the battery cuz if i charge it the phone boots up normally. The problem is that the % is stuck at 50 and does not show charging when i plug it in.

could be just the "cabel" (in german its flexband) from charger slot to battery. this is sensitiv to liquids.
but it could be the battery itself. got the same problem while ago with my own Z1, on restard it dropped from 80% to 14% and charging doesnt rly helped.
Im searching for a new battery . Kinda hard to find here in Albania. i will reply here with the solution in case i find any. Thank you guys

Dead Phone (doesn't charge?)

Hi,
I was using my phone until my battery completely died then when I finally plugged it was so low that it couldn't turn on so it kept restarting
for infinity amount of times, then it got even worse now it doesn't even do that it just show some battery icon with red color as low and some plug in the center of it that keeps flashing for couple of seconds and turn on and keeps repeating if I plug it in or press power button but no matter for how long I'll leave it plugged nothing will happen...
Any possible fix, thanks in advance.
P.S. It's such a BS tbh if it was so low why would it automatically try to switch on instead of waiting some time allowing the battery to charge at least 5%...
Same problem!

Hi, I did. In my case it's faulty charging port (I don't know what happened to it) but it's still possible to charge the phone if you insert the cable the right way.
I randomly fixed it by trying to plug/unplug the cable and at some point that battery with the flashing plug changed color to green disappeared and became standard white battery which shows charging progress so basically you can live with that as it's only tricky when the battery is too low as long as you always keep the phone charged and don't let it die but I still wake up sometimes in the morning with my battery on the same % so it's not a permanent fix you will probably need to change the port... Even though by searching the internet people say it's related to the battery not properly being connected i.e. has lose contacts etc.
P.S. I use original charging cable, I thought the cable might be broken so bought an expensive one from Amazon but for some reason it doesn't work.

My brother's nokia 8 has this problem, too. One side of usb-c charges well (c > 2 Amperes), other side doesn't (c < 0.1 A). No problem on the cable, because it works well with my phone. I tried to clean the usb socket with alcohol and soft paper but no result.
Try a higher power charger

S10 not charginng- not cable issue

Hi All, my s10 is suddenly not charging. may be it happened after the update i am not sure. it never fast charges now when the phone is turned on, but fast charges when its off.
Sometimes, it does not charge at all. tried a different cable, still doesnt charge- it says 24hrs remaining. And sometimes, it slow charges and sometimes it does not charge at all.
But everytime i switch it off and put it on charge, it charges fast with no issue. thats how i know its not the cable or the charging port. May be its some bug which is interfering with the charge? i dont know.. how to find that though? i am not rooted, and dont want to root either.. any suggestion?

Clean the USB port. They collect pocket lint. It gets moist and then packed in day after day. The inside bottom of the USB port should be silver in color. Use any thing small and hard enough to scrape every thing out. Take your time. A bright light. And a magnifier can do wonders. I got mine used and almost similar. It was full of crap. Type c ports are larger and therefore can collect more trash than before in micro and b and such
