Thanks I'll check it out. I've been rooting androids since the OG nexus but it's been a few years. I even built a few ROMs and themes back in the day. I loved flashing the newest and best ROMs but all my breeding of crested geckos, isopods, giant millipedes and roaches take up to much time now.

Thank you for this. Your tutorials are always the easiest to follow. I'm glad you're a fellow HTC One user.
Thanks qbking, your vids are always great and very clear. They helped me set up adb and the SDK a while back.

Thanks for this. Was hoping for a non-root tethering option that actually worked. I've rooted my past 3 phones, but trying to live without it... as long as I can handle it
Actually, I don't see any need to root and rom with Sense 5, I personally like it and it's stable for me. I'm only missing some seldomly used root apps. Tethering is the only reason I have right now to actually break and root. Just trying to not do that this time around.

Bloatware is always nice to remove.
Thanks
Great instructions, easy to follow... now rooted!
Good to see you here QBKing77
Much appreciated! I was able to root and install recovery with these instructions. Have you any more tips or videos on the horizon for us new One owners?
I like how the One beat the S4 on the fresh unboxing benchmark test you conducted on the S4 video.

Yep there will be more soon!
have you played around with any of the kernels or roms? im getting my sprint one this week and i was just wondering if there were any you recommend. as far as roms go ive been looking at viperRom or Tranquility. i figured i should start with sense-based and see how like it. for kernels im thinking of going with wolfpack. elementalx looks good but it says its not compatible with the sprint version. any thoughts?

My thoughts too. Though I will probably root once HTC stops supporting the device.

Tim your videos are second to none in my opinion. I have used them to advance my abilities and build my confidence as far as rooting / flashing etc. Thanks and keep up the good work...
still works?
Hi guys,
I have a sprint HTC one running: HTC Sense 5, Andriod 4.4.2, Software Ver. 4.06.651.9
I was wondering, does the original post still work on getting free hotspot ?
Thanks

[Q] Apps safe to freeze?

I've been looking now for the past hour for a list of apps on our 4.4.2 Moto X that are safe to freeze. Me not finding the list tells me that it's probably right under my nose in a sticky or something but for the life of me I am not seeing it. I realize I am probably blind, but if somebody can link me to the thread (if there is one), I would greatly appreciate it.

Verizon Motorola X 2014 XT1096 Root?

If your one of the many that got in on the Cyber Monday deal for the Moto X 2nd Generation then you may be like me and want to root this phone. Does anyone know if this is possible yet? I can't find anything on it yet so figured I'd start a thread on it.
There are actually a few threads on this already (general & q/a). No luck on root yet...

Maybe after the deal a few devs got a hold of these and we'll see it soon. Fingers crossed here
Do I return this or hold off for root?

My $0.02... If root is really important to you, return it.
I just need the wireless tether that's the main reason and custom roms of course.
We need to start a bounty thread for rooting the VZW version.

Correct. I wouldn't count on ever getting root for this phone. If root is that important to you, you should probably go a different route.

How confident are you on this? I didn't think there were any phones that root was not possible on. I really don't want to keep the iPhone 6 but I don't have much longer before my return period is up. The only good thing is I have tethering with it

Well I mean I can't say that it will never happen, but these newer phones are a lot more secure and locked down than android phones were a couple years ago. That, and the fact that most users of this phone purchased it because of the amazing motorola features that it comes with, so many users don't have the need or want for custom ROMs.

Tons of phones. My S5 was out for a solid year until geohot came out and saved the day with towel root. This phone could easily never gain root.
Yeah. I think too many ppl are being too negative about root. It might not happen today but I think it will eventually. If Devs can root any of the Samsung Knox filled crap phones than we should have more faith.
Btw, there is a bounty thread started so donate if u can, give a dev more reason to help us.
While I'm missing having a rooted phone, the x doesn't need it IMHO. That's not saying I would root this bad boy immediately though. I'm just happy right now with 5.0. I have other devices rooted to hold me over anyways.
No no not negative. Just being frank with someone who thought every android phone automatically gets root.
I'm optimistic. I pledged money as well.
CF Autoroot Possibly?
Has anyone tried the latest CF Autoroot? It works on other Moto X 2014 editions...

Your bootloader has to be unlocked to run CF-Autoroot.
Where is the link for the CF Autoroot

Question: Moto X Root 5.1 Unlocked Bootloader

I've been lurking around looking at root methods for the VZW 2nd gen Moto X with an unlocked bootloader for a bout 30 minutes. It seems like the more I look and fine, the more confused I get. Is there a quick and safe way to achieve this? I know this probably gets asked a lot, but I havent rooted a phone in probably 5+ years. I'd really like to be able to root it tonight, but I don't have too much time and absolutely have to have the phone tomorrow. Thanks in advance for those who help me beyond the typical, go search, answer.

For android 5.1 just flash TWRP to the phone, start TWRP. When you exit TWRP it will ask if you want to root it. Say yes.

[Q] Should I root? E6533

I'm a tad bit apprehensive with rooting my z3+ with the issue of losing the drm keys as such and being a nervous wreck of messing it all up. But seeing the dismal battery life and somehow warm occasional back of the phone is really convincing me to do it. I previously used a g2 before which i fiddled with a lot before.
read here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/general/guide-safe-bootloader-unlock-restore-t3386915
then you can decide what to do, and don't forget to thank him

Personally? I was hesitant like you are for months! But I got tired of the poor battery and very bad sot I had to charge my phone upto 3 times sometimes always carrying a charger and a power bank... Finally I rooted and I'm happy I did! With heavy gaming I get at least 2 hours and a half SoT now... If I know I'm going to stay out of i dont game and I get at least 3 hours ++ SoT... And i've only been rooted for like 3 days... I'm using nagasaki rom with zach's kernel and xposed with some battery saving tweaks... But rooting this device isn't easy so if you're familiar with unlocking bootloader and such things my advice is to ahead it's totally worth losing warranty plus you can now restore your drm keys of you wanna do something like sell the phone or send it in for repair. If you decide to root I'll give some tips on how to save battery cause it's all over the place on XDA many confusions. Good luck

@angvil It sounds really reassuring to know that it is worth it for your experience and happy with it. I'll carefully read and tread on the guide linked by @Bagne, thank you as well for the link ^_^. Oh yeah I was wondering what was the deal with something about a series of scripts called skynet it was posted in the forums not a long while ago. Is it compatible with z3+ and is it viable to consider?

They moved to Google and you need to be invited or accepted to try them out, I requested to join their community and might just might give it a go. But I'm happy with what I'm using now and the difference I've experienced between stock and rooted.
Once you decide to root tell me I'll provide some links and mods that I'm using grabbed a couple of scripts as well from XDA.

I am using latest zach's kernal + Nagasaki rom tweaked the Big cores are underclocked to 1.6 Ghz and little cores to 1.5 Ghz. Also I use Greenify + Amplify. Also using tweaks from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/themes-apps/mod-z5-endurance-tweaks-v1-tweaks-t3321841
Install Heimdall governor, at least that's what I'm using.
