I was facing the same issue. Just switched from Wifi to cellular data and it worked. The update was just around 9 MB, so it shouldn't be a problem.
I don't know what was the issue with the Wifi though.

Thanks!
I tried to install it using the Pixel Update & Software Repair Tool since it's day two and it's still stuck spinning on "Preparing System Update".

But during the process it says that I have the latest update which I know it's not correct sim I'm still on the January update on my Pixel 4 XL lol.

I guess it'll eventually come. I did the airplane mode thing now it says i'm on the latest update
It seems setting the private dns to dns.google (or) using a vpn seems to solve the issue for some people.
I think this issue is due to airtel network. Try using vodafone or some other network. It will instantly update.

I setup my wifes phone yesterday and then thought to check for the 4.4 update. Right now nothing appears to be happening. When I check for the update manually it says that there is an update already downloading and that I will be notified when complete. However, there is nothing in the notification tray to suggest anything is happening. This morning I woke up to a message saying that the download will complete once on wifi (but the phone was on wifi and working properly). That notification is now gone and same problem persists.
I've tried the obvious so far: Restart phone, try update using the Moto software via USB.
Level 1 tech support wants me to do a factory reset. Hoping to avoid that and the hour+ of setting up the phone again. Any thoughts? My phone is not rooted nor do I have plans to do so...
Since nobody seems to have any thoughts on this I decided to go ahead and factory reset the phone. Same exact symptom as before. Phone tells me there is an update available, I click download, nothing happens. Check the status a bit later and it says that an update is already in progress.
I'm starting to think that it's a problem with Recovery. Is it possible that these things will function normally with a broken or no recovery present? Went into fastboot and selected recovery. Instead of getting a factory reset I got a 'no command' error. Can't imagine it's possible to flash stock recovery if it's not rooted.

That's stock recovery, I think you need to hold down the volume button and then the power button and release, it should boot into recovery.

Hello,
I FINALLY convinced my wife to go Android. Got Nexus 7 2013 in August and she's gotten used to it. She's been IOS forever. So, her new moto x arrived Friday and we setup yestersday. Since she is OK with Nexus, the moto X will be good for her to move to. All is good EXCEPT the updates didn't download for some reason on activation yesterday. It showed it was downloading but to re-activate wifi. But, it was on?!!! Anyhow, she comes home today from her first full day at work with Triangle in notification bar to turn on wifi to download update. It's been over an hour with no movement and no status bar showing it's begun the download. I keep clicking for "system update" but says it's downloading... Status bar shows nothing other than update is ready and turn-on wifi.
Sounds like same issue as original poster. So far, wife is not happy with Android and her battery meter jumps all over place from 5% to 100%. Tempted to do factory reset but not a good way to start off as OP mentioned.
Any ideas or updates? Thanks

It seems like a dodgy or slow internet connection to me. Since you're still in download phase of the update, I don't think the problem is related to Recovery.

Wifi is not the problem. The internet is cranking and when I did the factory update it chewed through 20+ app updates in no time at all. Motorola has no idea how to help me... they just want me to send it in for repair. Such crap. I would love to try flashing stock firmware but can't seem to find any links that work.
Found the firmware. It appears my phone has the oldest build listed 139.9.51. Would it be okay to flash new build of 139.12.54?

Here is the thread that I used to fix my problem. I downloaded the stock 4.4 firmware from the link and flashed it using that technique. Phone appears to be tip-top now running stock 4.4.
Hello. Seems you fixed the problem. I question as to whether future OTA updates will download and we should return or not. Hmm..
I don't know what firmware she has. I'll have to check tonight when she gets home. Can you re-post the link?... it seems it didn't post it on the thread.

Oops: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572249
I think this is likely a temporary fix. I figure there is bound to be at least one or two more OTA's well within the warranty period... so I'll found out then if there is some other problem that needs to be addressed. Right now when I check for an update it simply says that the phone is up-to-date.
4.4.2 should be around the corner I think...

I did originally flash 4.2 (139.12.54) to test that very thing. The OTA had the same problem. Like I said, I think

Maybe it's a problem with the Motorola update servers...
I'm thinking that's probably the case since the cyber Monday promotion probably slammed them.
Glad to hear it's not just two of us..but still.... Sorry to hear of your problem too. Keep us posted.
Update on my wife's moto X. Still no update has been downloaded. She came home last night from work turn on wifi with triangle in notification. It said I have to turn on wifi to start download. It was already on have been on for a long time. So after a while I started to hit the Check Update button and also cleared the popup message telling me that one was being downloaded. (It's not) Did that routine several times. It did look like some WiFi activity was occurring based on WiFi x in symbol..but nothing. The message in notification eventually changed to the download status bar but stayed a 0 %
So, same story since initial setup on Sunday. Bummer. Not going to fiddle with any hackery. It should just work like my X does which is why she wanted it in first place and left Apple.
Will keep all updated.

My brothers phone has been on ZV5 until yesterday he asked me to update it to ZV6 which was quite easy I just took the OTA in the system update menu. Everything went fine, rebooted, updated, rebooted. Now here is where things get screwed, after it finishes booting back into android the signal indicator is showing no signal. We wait 10 mins or so and still nothing, tried to update profile and it says it cannot when there is no service. Toggle airplane mode on and off still nothing, pull battery and let it sit, still nothing. This is a unmodified system, never rooted, straight stock. Anyone have any ideas?
I had a similiar issue after updating to ZV6. Not immediately but a couple hours later. Not sure if it was related to his issue or something else. It started working normal again.

Maybe you can use the TOT to factory reset the phone and clear everything out and see if it starts working...
Try re-activating Dial ##72768# Menu->Reset and Commit.
You can try it on WIFI, 3G or LTE.
So new update, says security. Well it's 1125.5 MB that's some security anyone know what it is yet?
Of course now I can edit now that's it's too late.
Ok can't edit on app. It's updated and good news is it's 7.1.1. Trouble I had was didn't realize it wasted my straight talk apn settings. New clock font on lock screen. Launcher 3 is totally different check it out is nice. Drag to left for Google now feed :highfive:

Fir this phone the other forum is much more active.
What are your thoughts and experiences on the update so far? WiFi seems much faster battery seems just as good.
Just got the update yesterday myself. was excited to see that it was 7.1.1 but got annoyed fast that it broke my admittedly already broken Bluetooth. (wouldn't turn on) But after backing everything up and a little bit of stumbling through the "restore" part of a full reset everything is running great as far as i can tell. I like the new launcher but i don't like that I can't do away with the "most recent" apps thing at the top. i just don't use it and don't wan't it there if I'm not going to use it.
The update broke my phone. Hooray.
**edit** Ok, so updated the phone. I got an error saying Recovery was unreadable, booted in bootloader mode... Rebooted, same thing. Shut off the phone. It recommended to use Software repair from Verizon... So plug in the USB-C, fire up the phone... It boots up to the splash screen and freeezes... Then 10 minutes later, REBOOTS TO RECOVERY?!
So I try and do what I can in recovery, but to no avail. So I reboot it again... And let it go. It bootloops 4-5 times and eventually boots up! So I thought, cool. It's fixed. Nope! I reboot, and I'm back in phone limbo. Stupid POS. :\
So I factory reset... And now the phone is even more broken than before. YAY!!!! This is the worst update ever.

After reading on Verizon website, I just realized that it takes up to a week after an update before you can use the assistant...
I also paid a premium for that samsung micro SD 128gb Evo... But also hope it can fix our z force droid Bluetooth issues...

Anyone else noticing improved battery life after the update? I did a full factory reset after the update because it broke my Bluetooth but its been running great for me. I didn't get your luck, since the first small update in beginning of July, nothing but trouble, phone overheat (huge drain) reboots often (more drain) and weird unused app battery usage... Since August update, no improvement same thing...
I used to be able to make 2 days or a little more if I'm lucky... Now barely a day... ?
So i've had this issue for a while now. It started off inconspicuously where my phone would hang and reboot everytime it wasn't plugged in to the charger and the wifi was turned on with charge less than 60%. This caused a ton of bootloops so I figured it was a battery issue and i've ordered a new battery. Also, i stopped receiving OTAs from google so i had to manually flash factory images to update my nexus. Now, i had this problem where the wifi would get stuck at turning on but after a few reboots it'd work. However since flashing the N8I11B update (i realized later that i should have been a little more thorough with my research as this was for Verizon users only) my wifi just wouldn't turn on. It's stuck at turning on and refuses to switch on at all. I flashed the MOB31T version of 6.0.1 and still no luck. I did notice duing setup that the MAC was set to 02:00:00:00:00:00. I tried resetting the network settings but no luck there as well. I'm getting my battery changed soon but i know that has nothing to do with it. I hope its a software issue and not a hardware one because that would mean changing the motherboard and i might as well just buy a new phone with that money. Oh, also data services work fine its only the wifi that isn't working. Also keep in mind that i know nothing about linux shell scripting but i'm willing to do whatever it takes to fix this issue myself.

My bluetooth works. Only wifi is giving problems. No, only stock android on my phone
This happened with my phone. It's an issue with a batch of the Nexus motherboards I believe. Some batch of motherboards made by Motorola have an issue where the wifi chip begins to die after 2-3 years.
If your issue is what I think it is: The only solution is getting a replacement motherboard.
Otherwise, you can try opening the Nexus and reflowing the wifi chip. It worked for a couple of days in my case, but only temporarily. Ended up having to get my mobo replaced.

get the factory firmware from sammobile.com and flash it in Odin. be sure to factory reset from within the settings first or the FRP might crop up. This is the nuclear bomb method that 99% of the time fixes any glitches caused by software. You might have a hardware issue, but this will help rule that out

I had this issue with rooted Android 9, too. But it it very strange you get this problem on Android 10 because the kernel panic problem is fixed there. When you are not rooted, you should not have this problem anyway. Try restore your software in Odin like the other users already suggested.

Please let me know if this has worked for you. I'm having a similar problem that only started when i updated to android 10.
I have a totally stock, Verizon S10. Never had a problem with it on 9. After updating i started noticing after about 8-12 hours phone starts getting very sluggish, gets hot, has trouble even doing processor intensive things like opening camera and taking a picture without it crashing back to the OneUI launcher. Launcher would show up blank and take 5-10 seconds to restore my icons and widgets. Lock Screen lags really bad and face rec hardly works if at all. Phone gets really hot and if i look at the CPUs (Antutu BM) they are usually all maxed out.
A reboot fixes everything and then it will be fine again for another 8-12 hours and then, like clockwork, it starts up again. I've done a factory reset with data restore. Didnt fix it. Did another one without data restore and it is still happening. Would an Odin flash be different than a factory reset from the settings menu?

I think I may be onto something. Do you have any battery monitoring apps? I had Accubattery, better battery stats, and gsam battery monitor installed. Gsam and BBS had battery_stats permissions granted via adb. I was beginning to wonder if they were causing some kind of memory drain so I wiped their data and uninstalled them. Immediately after that I rebooted and after 46 hours of uptime there was absolutely no problem. Phone flies and runs cool as ice.
I'm currently installing them one at a time and waiting 48 hours after each install to see if and when the problem comes back.

And I'd just like to add that when my phone starts acting up it gets worse and worse to the point it won't even unlock and go to the home screen. Then it will actually reboot itself. I assume it panicked because it just doesn't have enough ram to complete any tasks.
so maybe its about the battery for you? btw my problem still alive
Guys, I got the same problem, did you guys find a way to fix it? Just realised today that even the system data, i.e fingerprints have been corrupted, what exactly is happening and how to fix this, it has been driving me crazy for the past couple of months.
