Any advice please ,, I have 128 gig flash drive , 4 in 1 just meaning it has 4 different types of connection, however my Xiaomi Mi A2 light doesn't really recognise it ,[u*l]h***s:/ /photos.app.goo.gl/AqsdWQt9uUo88u7f9[/ur*]
As it is most probably formatted in NTFS or exFAT, you'll need a 3rd party solution, for example Microsoft exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software (afaik Microsoft licenses extra fee for usage of such FS in Android OS)

I have an external 2,5'' HDD with a capacity of 4TB. I formatted it to exFAT, because I know that Samsung devices usually do not recognize NTFS partitions out-of-the-box. To my surprise the HDD was still not properly detected by my Note 8. It offered me the option to "repair" it by formatting it. After formatting it was properly detected, but the capacity was now reduced to around 2 TB.
I reconnected it again to windows to see what's going on and realized that my Note 8 created 2 partitions, one with about 2 TB and the other one was unusable.
After further inspection, I realized that it changed the partition management from GPT to MBR which is bad, because MBR only supports partitions up to 2 TB (as far as I know), but it explains why my HDD looked like this.
So my questions: Does the Note 8 not work with GPT? Does it not support HDDs with 4TB? Is it not possible to have a partition > 2TB? Has anyone experienced the same or knows a workaround?
For anyone wondering why I "need" a 4 TB HDD with a Smartphone: It's primarily used as a backup HDD for my PC. There are also some movies / series on this HDD. It would be very convenient to just take this backup HDD with me on family vacations. My son does not yet speak any foreign languages and German audio synchronization is usually not available abroad, so this would be pretty helpful.
I also need a backup media for my photos that I take during the vacation, so I use this for temporary photo backup as well.
Hello all! I have bought dual flash drive by Sandisk, size 64gb. For some reason when I connect the device I cannot use it, and when I try to set it to MTP, it "jumps" right back to reverse charge. I have unrooted stock ROM and would like to keep it that way if possible. I have tried usb debugging, and formatted the device.
Help please.
Thanks in advance!
Try to format sd card in reader with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. Google for it. I'm using same sd card moded to use with 2 sim cards and it works fine (with more than 50GB of data occupied). Or maybe the card died
Please notice that it's not a card but a flash drive.
From SanDisk page:
64GB and 128GB Dual USB Drives come preformatted in exFat file system and certain mobile devices do not support exFat. In this case please format the drive in Fat32 file system.

Note: Some mobile device protective cases interfere with the full and proper connection between SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive and the microUSB port of mobile devices. You may have to remove the protective case on your mobile device to obtain a full and proper connection.

Weirdly P9 is not listen in compatibility page even when P8 and P7 is... but I often use OTG drives with my P9, from cheap sd card reader for 3$(with microUSB so I use usb-c dongle...) to even external SSD is working with it, so lack of OTG support is not a problem.
It's not the cover. Will formatting it to fat32 won't affect the size of the flash drive I can use? And Is there a way to format it with unrooted phone? Because I will not be at home for the next few weeks.
nope, formating just change file system/algorithms of how files are stored in drive. But you need to remember that 64GB drive will have just about 59-62GB of REAL size, its because of difference between how the manufacturer calculates capacity (decimal-based) compared to how a computer calculates it (binary-based).
And you dont do formating on phone but on PC:
1. just plug it to PC.
2. backup files if you have any on it.
3. right click on that dive in "My Computer".
7. select format -> Quick format
8. select FAT32 and then hit format.
9. done.
Thank you for your answer. I know to format through a computer, I just won't be near one for the next few weeks. What file system should I format into?
umm... I mentioned that 2 times: Fat32 format :]
It should be fine if it's in Reverse charging. In my case, I'm using a USB-C to USB (female) adapter (check Google if you can find one). It works fine, my P9 can even read the contents of my 1TB external hard drive. Probably something wrong with the USB-C part of the flash drive itself?
Hi,
I bought a new Mi A2 a couple of weeks ago.
I've just tried connecting it to my PC (which runs Windows 7) but file transfers are dead slow. Every time I plug it in i get a warning that it could perform much faster using a USB 2.0 port.
I tried installing drivers (using a file named adb-setup-1.4.3.exe that i found on many websites. The problem still persists after updating the drivers.
I also tried installing the Mi suite but it doesn't recognize my phone (I've read Mi suite is out of date and won't work with current Android versions)
Surely there must be a way that I can transfer files to and from my PC at normal speeds like I've been doing for years with plenty of other Android phones?
Hmm, mine works just fine... Try switching the physical USB port. Maybe the one you are using is damaged. Also check if the cable and the type C port on your phone are dirty.
Mine is same
But no one accept it
You can use Mi Drop.
You need FTP client for PC, like FileZilla, and connect your smartphone and PC to the same wifi network.
Mi A2 may have a USB Type C port but appears to only support USB 2.0 (480 Mbps).
I recently transferred 40GBs of music files:
First through FTP (which took an hour plus via 802.11ac)
Wire (3.1 thunderbolt cable which took half the time)
and found that transfer was slow regardless.
I have quick solution.
Connect you Mi A2 Phone to PC and select file Transfer Option in Phone
Go to C drive >> Windows >> INF >>wpdmtp.inf
Right click and install. Now you can access files
Just use the Mi Drop.
you can use FTP Server for high speed file transfer, with internal network speed

Your Mi A2 connects to Mi PC Suite?! Is it stock ROM?
I'm on latest stock update, latest Mi PC Suite version, all drivers in PC updated and ADB through other softwares working perfect, and original mi cable that came with phone. It still does not connect to Mi PC Suite. Never did since I bought this device in september '18. I think Mi PC Suite is only for MIUI devices.
Try installing Qualcomm Driver by searching somewhere in the dev sec.
Can someone with an OTG hard-drive check what speed they get when transferring files?
When I transfer files from my portable hard-drive via USB to my old budget Xiaomi Mi 9T, I get stable 30-32 MBps speed:
mi 9t
Watch "mi 9t" on Streamable.
streamable.com
But when I copy the same file to my Zenfone 8, the speed is fluctuating between 2 MBps and 15 MBps:
zenfone 8
Watch "zenfone 8" on Streamable.

The speed is fine when copying files directly from my laptop.
Not every phone goes cool with every USB cable, not at file transfer, not at charge, and some may even trigger incompatibility alarm on your phone.
I even tried RN10's USB (which is very fast on Redmi) on a Samsung phone, it was like .. very slow. Same thing happened when I used Samsung's USB on a Huawei phone.
Yeah depends on what you use. I tried a Samsung u3 micro SD card in a Kingston card reader connected via a Samsung Type-C/OTG adapter

Use a different cable/port. Reboot.
Check settings on the phone in Developer options if you have that.
Clear system cache, hard reboot.
Windows:
Check Event Viewer for error messages.
Try updating or rolling back drivers.

USB. Or try turning Developer options off.
Hello colleagues,
I have a Xiaomi Redmi 4X lying around, which I want to connect permanently to my Audi A4 (2016) without a SIM card (via micro USB cable). I want only important apps to work via Android Auto - GPS, GoogleMaps, blitzer.de, TuneIn-Radio. The phone gets internet from my actual cell phone, which I have in my jacket pocket, via WLAN.
In other words, the phone only needs to have the functions of "serving" my car. Even the telephone function can be neglected ...
Now the question is, an MIUI is currently running on my 4X, but I would like a lean operating system on the mobile phone so that the processor can only concentrate on the apps it needs and functions such as synchronization, cloud services or other unnecessary stuff are not even available are.
Can you recommend a lean operating system for me? My English is not so great, Sorry.
The phone is unlocked, rooted and I have already installed twrp ...
