I set my Battery Power Backlight to turn off if unused for 5 minutes.
Something, somehow, keeps resetting it to 10 seconds. It's driving me nuts.
Anyone else have this experience, and have a possible culprit?
I'm using XDA-Live v1.2 with Spb Pocket Plus and Pocket Diary loaded.
My own experience is a little different.
I set my batt power backlight to dim after 10 seconds, but after a while (the lag varies) it resets back to 30 seconds.

No, not me.
go here in your registry:
\HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
you should see a bunch of keys and a folder called "LockLevel" - inside that folder is the LockLevel key with a value of 1 or 0 - you don't need to go inside that folder. just rename it from "LockLevel" to "LockLevelx" (add an x to the end of the folder's name)...
that's it.
Registry tweak seems to work

Hmm, soft-reset and LockLevel key is back, along with the original that I renamed to LockLevelx.
But son of a gun - I believe this actually works to stop backlight dimming! (which was my other issue - I have had to import registry key after every soft-reset if I wanted backlight to be bright when I hit unlock - the registry setting for Locklevel wouldn't stick after soft-reset).
Now, when I lock with long press of Red End Key, screen dims after about 6 seconds (which is OK), but as soon as I press Left SoftKey to unlock, the screen brightens again, which was what I was after (because outdoors, with dim screen, it is very hard for me to see the little onscreen Unlock icon, so I would try to tap where I thought it should be, and sometimes succeed, sometimes not). Now I'll be able to see it properly, and not miss!
Haven't had it in effect long enough to know if it fixes the issue I originally brought up, of stopping Backlight timeout reverting to 10 seconds. If that is fixed too, this is an awesome double whammy!
Now, HTH did you know or figure out that this registry tweak would do this? Please share your genius!
I have done this (renamed Locklevel to Locklevelx). It works, The backlight is now on when you turn the Cruise on again. This is OK. But I have noticed that the screen is "redrawn" twice, so the screen is on, goes black again and then on again, all within a second. Still I think it is annoying. Does anybody else noticed this. Does anybody know a solution?
I tried the small app "Bright Lock" and it changes the locklevel key to 10 (full brightness) at power On, but has the side effect of changing the key "Battery Timeout" to 7 (seconds) which dims the display in 7 seconds when the phone is unlocked as well as locked.
Haven't found a way to get a bright screen at power-up to see the screen to unlock it (with a short timer like 7 seconds), then revert to the backlight timer setting (like 30 seconds or more) once unlocked!
EDIT
In any case, if you REMOVE Bright Lock, then re-name the DeviceLock key like this thread describes and soft reset, BINGO, the Backlight comes on bright for about 7 seconds when locked AND it stays On for the duration of the settings>backlight timer when un-locked!
Strange! The LockLevel key is restored after the reset, but with a 0 setting on my Kaiser.
My problem wiht backlight is somewhat different. I have gone into the settings, and Unchecked the box for "Turn off backlight if device is not use for " on both battery power and external power. I originally tried setting it for the MAX time.
I have tried the fix in this thread.
And my backlight goes off in 15 seconds, unless I have it hooked to power. this is very annoying.
Actually, I think it is going into standby. Is there a difference? If I have it doing somethign that will take longer than 15 sec, i have to tap the screen to keep it from going into standby and stopping the operation.
Any other thoughts?
Well, I got my issue fixe. On the ROM that I have (Alex's latest Cube rom) there is a menu here: Backlight Settings, choose menu, then Power.
Then thre is an advanced tab, and also there is a setting to turn backlight off if on battery. i changed the setting there and I'm good to go.
All of a sudden, my screen keeps turning off after 10 seconds. I had it set to 5 minutes on battery power.
I tried to uncheck both boxes and nothing happened, it still turns off after 10 seconds. I also tried the LockLevelx thing and that didn't work.
Can someone help me with this? I have no idea why this is happening and it's really annoying. I can't do anything without having the backlight turn off.
I went into HKLM/ControlPanel/Backlight and I see the following values but I don't know what to change them to.

I had the same problem. It really drive one nuts. Mine was related to locking the phone, using the today's lock. I'm now using u2s2 iphone like lock (with sleuth rom) works GREAT.
best
I too made the reg change as mentioned early. It worked but too well, now it never dims no matter what time is selected. I'm running the AT&T rom. Anybody ele having this problems.
tomy51
looks like setting locklevel to 0 after set backlight to a desidered value fix the problem. at least i've tried it on my atek s200 and problem is solved also after soft reset pda
I uninstalled BackLight program and tried the 'LockLevelx' method - it only worked for a few soft resets, then no-matter what my brightness setting was set to, the screen would remain slightly dim. It also changed my digital clock in top right hand corner to analog clock.
Any suggestions?
Have you tried the official hotfix http://www.htc.com/us/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=67&cat=all
I had the same problem. It was caused by the lockout exchange policy. It was an easy fix though - I used the utility on http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/...curity-policy-for-windows-mobile-devices.aspx to remove the exchange policy and now everything just peachy.
The update on HTC US tilt support page worked for me
Backlight Fix
I tried both the official backlight fix and the LockLevelX registry fix for my Tilt (offical AT&T 6.1 ROM minus the bloatware) and neither was working. After reading that the issue might be tied to the autolocking of the phone I tried this: I deleted the LockLevelX key (since a new LockLevel key was created after a soft reset), deactivated the autolocking of my phone, and voila- the phone works like it's supposed to. I did not uninstall the official backlight fix. I have since reactivated the autolocking feature of my phone and so far, so good. I don't have any problems with the screen staying dim either. I hope that helps.
Had this the other day...rendered my phone inoperable.
Basically the lock widget disappeared which was weird. Locked it and went to unlock and nothing happens.
I could press the lock button as much as I want - all I get it a black screen.
If I press camera it will open the camera in locked mode. Could take pictures but nothing else! Pressing lock again did nothing
Its almost the equivalent of explorer.exe crashing I suppose.
Fixed it in the end (luckily) by finding that holding the lock/power button and volume down for 10 seconds reset the phone to recovery mode.
Weird thing was I could receive calls still! Android crash perhaps? Hope jelly bean comes soon
I have my watched paired to a Verizon Galaxy Note 8. When I get an incoming call, if I answer the phone from the phone, the watch keeps ringing while I am talking on the phone.
Is there any way to stop this? It is extremely annoying.

I had the same issue. I tried this and it worked. Press and Hold Power Button until Asus Logo is displayed, release let it load. After it loaded. Then Press and Hold Power Button and Bottom Button at the same time hold until it says bootloader mode release buttons let it load. Mine works fine now, disconnects as soon as I answer on my phone. Failing that you can try a factory rest.
Happened to me, i had to downgrade to 1.5, watch is better in every way now.
Hi there,
My ZenFone 8 suddenly turned off randomly today, while playing music on YouTube.
I held the power button for 15 or so seconds, and now the phone is stuck on what I assume to be a ramdump. It lists various boot stages, and has green text saying 'Waiting for flashing full ramdump'.
Is there any way to fix this? I can't call Asus support, as it's a public holiday today. The phone is running on the stock firmware.

Tried that, it just returns to the ramdump screen. Holding Volume Up has the same effect

Wait, so is my firmware corrupted? Also, will I lose my files?
Also, I just noticed something: When I plug the cable in to USB, the display glitches out. (I don't have another camera, so i can't show it well, sorry.) Could this be related?
Managed to use my laptop webcam. Here is the glitch that I described:

Also, here is a photo of the ramdump screen I see.
Looks strange, faulty cable or usb-port?
Well, the screen remains 'normal' when I use a different USB-C cable. However, unplugging it causes the screen to glitch again?
By USB port, do you mean the port on the phone? I think that might be the issue, so it looks like I'll have to contact ASUS support tomorrow. Thank you for your help : )
I had the exact same issue and I eventually sent the phone back to Asus for a repair. According to their repair tracker, it's currently awaiting parts 'with a longer lead time'. I thought it's a software issue, so not sure what parts they're awaiting, but I'll be without a phone for a while.

hold all three buttons pressed until the screen powers off(power + volume up + volume down).
when that happened to me while developing my kernel, the screen first shuts off, keep the buttons pressed, you´ll see bootloader for a split second, then it´ll turn off again, keep buttons pressed, then it´ll stay at bootloader screen. now let first go of power button, and then the volume buttons.
that should get you out of ramdump mode to fastboot/bootloader.
then you should be able to boot back up, by choosing reboot via volume buttons and confirm the choice via power button.
Hi, does anyone have a solution to this problem? My zenfone 8 also shut down randomly while I was using the camera app and I haven't been able to start it since. No combination of buttons has been able to get me out of the "waiting for ramdump mode". No fastboot, no other mode. It really puzzles me as to how such a catastrophic failure could occur in normal use that could completely brick the phone, which has never occurred to me on any other phone before.
Has anybody found a solution to this problem? My ZenFone 8 went blank and shutdown suddenly. I am not able to find a solution to this anywhere.
I've tried every possible button combination but I'm unable to reboot to fastboot either.

Hold and press volume down and power until it reboots, can take 30 s or more. Press power and volume up to enter fastboot.

Thanks but I tried all possible combinations for over 30 mins. It's not working.
The phone is stuck in EDL mode with no way to boot into the fastboot mode.
Does anyone have the required QPST files for the ZenFone 8 so that I can flash the stock firmware myself using QFIL and QPST?

Ok, sorry to hear. There no edl compatible files out (maybe never) o only option is to find an asus service center to fix an edl-bricked phone.
Note that ramdump state is not same as edl..
EDL state shows phone as Qualcomm HS-USB QDloader 9008 when connected to computer

This is gonna be tricky. The ZenFone 8 hasn't been officially launched in India. However, I imported it from Hong Kong last month. I hope I am able to get this fixed in India.
Yes, my phone does show up as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 when connected to my computer, hence why I mentioned the EDL mode. Even I am unsure why it did as ramdump and EDL are not the same states like you mentioned.
Thanks though.

Did you try pressing and holding all three buttons simultaneously too? you might need to keep them pressed for over a minute.
what happens if you do this? does it reboot or does nothing happen at all?
what happens if you let the phone run out of battery and charge it back up?

Yes, I did try pressing and holding all three buttons at once. I did this for over 5 minutes continuously. However, the phone just kept booting back to the 'ramdump' screen every time.
Right now, the phone doesn't even turn on. No 'ramdump' screen either. It's as if the phone is completely dead.
When I plugged it in, the red charging LED blinks at the bottom a few times but nothing else is happening.
Looks like my phone is screwed up beyond the 'ramdump' screen.

maybe it´s hardware then.
Whenever I unlock using power button, I can hear the phone unlocking but the screen remains blank. To make sure it's a software issue, I tried Double Tap to Wake as well. Same issue persists. It won't wake up until I got 4 or 5 times.
