Hi there all, I'm a decently smart man and have tried just about everything I understand how to do to get my wife's camera back up and working correctly b the app is laggy AF when launching. Installed 3rd party camera and even the newest gcam port. No matter what one I use the app loads but the camera doesn't become usable for 20-30 seconds after. I've tried clearing the data and cache of app. I cleared cache partition. Factory reset and even tried using Google lens. Once the camera is up and running it's a decent photo taking device but truly when it was on Oreo everything was fine. Still soft and not perfect compared to iPhone and pixel but for what it is the v40 had shot decent photos. I don't know how to unlock bootloader and install a KDZ or TAR file if that's something I'll be needing to do.
I've searched reddit and XDA most say everything I've tried and most have worked for others sadly not my case. Thanks in advance for all help here.
I know LG bridge is a think just don't know if I can down grade the OS via that way. Long post sorry
You have to understand that an android operating system update by a manufacturer is **** and slows down performance or break the features. If your phone came in on android 8 then dont go to 9 as youll notice its slower, android 9 is smooth but the real test is when your using browsers and apps like games, facebook etc. Ive owned many types of android from BLU Studio, Samsung, LG, Acetel, and they are **** when going past the OS it came in on first day release.
In terms of downgrading the new LG UP is safe to try KDZ downgrade as if it detects a higher antirollback it will alert you and stop.

Hey, I've searched a fair bit for this so apologies if I've missed a thread with the solution! My camera doesn't focus when using the colour camera, the monochrome works perfectly fine and if I clear data and cache, then restart my phone my focus works fine, then just stops working after a while, I think possibly when I open snap chat? Not done enough testing to see if it is down to that - so to me that tells me I am dealing with a software issue. Does anyone who has dealt with this before know of a fix? Cheers!
After further resting I have found this to 100% be a software issue that is triggered by nothing, at times my focus component will return and work fine, and then break in some app using the camera, such as Facebook messenger, snapchat, Instagram, 3rd party camera apps etc, unfortunately after looking it turns out there is several files for the camera, I have yet to have a look into them to see if there is a memory leak being caused somewhere whenever the focus component is activated (that is what I think Is happening as the camera app can use up a lot of RAM, more so than would be required in my opinion) does anyone know if this issue is present in future updates?

I have the same issue since June '17. The only answer I got from Huawei support was "please reset it to the factory settings." I waited to do this all this time, because it seems it goes near bricking !! They say "If the OS is Android 5.1 (or later) installed on your device already, you can not access the device after the reset procedure (factory state-recycling)."
I do not have Facebook messenger, snapchat or Instagram, only 3rd party camera apps ...
"if I clear data and cache": I found an instruction to clear the cache (turn off, the hold Vol Down + Power switch), but it does not work, it only starts in protected mode (known from Windows, the mode in which you can get done nothing really)
Did you get a solution in the meantime ?

For a $1000 phone Samsung should be much better at their updates and more caring for their premium customers!!
On Android pie, things were stuttering, the fingerprint sensor takes 3 seconds until the screen wakes up, everything felt slow and battery life really sucked! Right now I'm on Oreo 8.1 and everything is just so smooth and efficient, why can't android pie be the same and Samsung just do something right for once??!!
This is the last time I'm buying a Samsung phone! And yes I've been using every single android pie custom ROM here on XDA and they all have the same problems....
I am not experiencing your issues after the update. Everything is smooth and clean. I did a Fresh factory wipe though.
Have you tried wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode? If that doesn't work then back up your data and perform a hard factory reset. That should resolve your issue.
Will try, but I got the phone like 2 weeks ago and I think I have already done that but will try again and see thanks!

Clean flash it via ODIN and with full wipe (CSC and not home_csc - will delete ALL of your data (except SD card), so be careful!). Then give it a 1-2 weeks to settle down, it's not the smoothest thing in the world, but defo it's not that bad and it's better than oreo.

Will be trying that out tonight and will report back in 10 days ??
I've NEVER done a full wipe and fresh install except when installing a rom or beta version outside of Samsungs own processes. I've never had any problems either and it saves a whole load of pain doing a full install. I DO always do a cache partition wipe in the boot menu. Helps clean things up.
Just my tip.
Wiping cache (or everything if that doesn't work) is the first thing to try when facing issues like this. Especially if nobody else seems to be having similar problems. This is hardly a reason to pull a "I'm never shopping here again!".

For a moment I thought I was on the official Samsung Members beta app forum.

So after erasing everything, flashing stock and waiting for more than 10 days as you guys said so the system can optimise I still say 9.0 update is disappointing after switching from the mate 9.... The fingerprint is as fast now yes, battery life is disappointing, when I get a message notification the time it takes to open the app is just embarrassing for a phone like this. I don't know maybe I'll try treble ROMs or I'll sell the phone. Thanks for all the help
Bluetooth issues, no DSD playback, choppy, SBC codecs!!
I contacted support and after troubleshooting I made them submit a Bug Report.
UHQA Ultra High Quality Audio is broken, meaning playback of DSD 64 and 128 is broken and choppy.
We wipe clean it, tried even to push a patch and nada!!
What is more dumb is that UHQ audio for analog headphones work, yet when in bluetooth is broken.
Also Pro mode for video recording was removed.
They love to remove stuff when a new Note is coming up.
Sadly Samsung is becoming more and more like Apple.
On the phone the girl even tried to sell me the Galaxy Buds, and I said if you are sending them free, sure, but No thanks.
Broken 24 bit music playback sucks when you have a library of Flac music.
Contact support and push them to file a Bug report, to keep some pressure on.
My phone is working great on the latest update. Nothing is slow and my battery life is very good. I also appreciate a lot of the new features and changes.

UHQ audio doesn't work with Bluetooth, it's by design because it's not how Bluetooth works.
When using Bluetooth you don't use the built-in DAC/amp of your phone.
Numerical audio data are sent to your Bluetooth device that do the numeric to analogic coversion and the amp part. So it's your Bluetooth device that must supports UHQ, but your phone must supports a Bluetooth version with enough bandwidth to do so.
On PIE I no longer have many camera options I found useful. Make volume key lens zoom. Add second floating shutter release button. Good Lock quick star sucks re editing and options. I detest the new icons and I hate when the mess with my interface ie. They moved or removed many things I have muscle memory for. Should I blame Google or Samsung?
@up, i have similar opinion. So a week ago I back to Oreo. Again i have everything well.
Note 9 oreo is the perfect phone!

Have you tried checking the Camera Settings Menu? I was able to chance the settings of the volume buttons to either zoom or take a picture in there.

I don't have any option for that in my camera settings. Maybe I should clear partition cache?

"Press volume key to" and "Floating Shutter location" are under "Shooting methods" in the camera settings.
Doesn't matter who you blame. They'll continue to make $$ regardless.

I just saw that right before I checked this thread lol. I love how they bury settings in sub menus after updates.
Hi,
I have been using this phone for two years and it still works flawlessly but I would like to give it a refresh. So I was looking for some ROMs in the forum but for some reason I don't see anything else than LineageOS. I remember times back 9-10 years when nearly any phone had at least a dozen of custom ROMs available, so I was looking to convert my phone software to samsung(preferably)/google like but with keeping the drivers so I don't loose the super fast charging, camera features/quality, fingerprint reader. You might ask, what's wrong with the current ROM, well, some features for example interfere with Dell mobile connect/microsoft my phone making it unable to reply to messages, problem with syncing etc.
Thank you
Hi!
I have a Galaxy S10 G9730 (Snapdragon) and last week I've installed Android 11 + OneUI 3.0 via OTA. The phone started to give so much problems, battery drain, rotation sensor stucked until reboot, etc... I ended up hard-reseting it to solve problems.
All of them have dissapeared but proximity sensor is not working anymore, I tried some apps to test it but none of them detects anything. Also on phone hardware test "*#0#*" I didnt found anything to test proximity sensor.
So any of you had the same problem? Maybe it's some kind of hardware fail? I'm like 80% sure that it stoped working after that last update but not 100%....
Thanks guys!
Have you checked the Galaxy Store and Playstore for system apk updates?
If you could try reflashing it... it's very unlikely it's a hardware failure, at least with the proximity sensor.
May be a bad flash or it is the firmware which is probably the most likely.
I'm still running Pie because it's a lighter, faster OS that I find easy to use. The Q and especially the 11 "upgrade" would slow my 10+ down and reduce/destroy functionalities I use.

Yes, everything is updated. Afer a reboot it worked again, but after some hours of use, proximity and rotation sensor started to fail again.
Android 11 update its a complete failure, I'm thinking about going back to android 10.

That just sucks.
If you can tolerate it Sammy should eventually punch out an update for that issue.
It's possible you got a bad flash. Anymore I'm inclined to leave everything on the factory load if it's running well
I get damn tired of playing footsies with cactus...
Q isn't being well received as Google -tries- to kept its poor adoption rate secret.
11 is a real whack job. Google is on a losing streak. Lol their next OS will be code named Snake Eyes
It makes upgrading my hardware platform a big no go... no good OS available for the hardware.
Hi all,
I recently purchased S20 FE 5g (Snapdragon, india) few days back for my wife. The screen of her previous phone Redmi k20 broke after a fall and screen was not available (and even if so it was going to cost around 50-60% of phone's original purchased value. So instead we decided to buy new phone. And after lot of back and forth we settled for S20 FE.
The main camera is good. But the front camera and selfie is really poor for this kind of phone and price. In fact Redmi K20 which was almost half of the price of this one had better front camera.
The photos are grainy and blurry half of the times. And smoothening effect even after turning off all filters. This doesn't have autofocus I am aware. But most of the phones do not have for front camera.
Night mode and Gcam improves it somewhat but overall very disappointing front camera.
I checked with service centre and they mentioned there are no hardware or software issues. So I cannot get any return or refund as well.
Shockingly very few reviewers mentioned the issues with front camera and overall camera reviews were good. Now after doing some research see many users complaining about front camera. Seen some posts here and many on reddit as well. My 3 years old Pixel 3xl takes miles better photos and even almost 2.5 years old Redmi K20 was better in front camera marginally which was almost half of the price.
Given S20 FE was released almost 1 and half years back I do not have any hope of fixing the front camera by software updates from Samsung (they would have already done by now)
Or if anyone here have any idea if the front camera can be improved by some tweaks? (already tried night mode and gcam which are better but anything for normal shots?)

Is it better than the stock camera?
stock camera and stock camera app are two completely different things. Sometimes custom apps perform better.
You should look at it, then you can decide. I have the luck that I did not buy the same phone..
I bought the S20 FE and back then there was a screen bug that was enough for the seller to take the phone back - you'd have to search for the thread but it involves multi-touch on the screen.
There's an app you can DL to check it but it shows as when you do multi-touch swipes the screen malfunctions. Might work with your retailer as a faulty phone?
I would return it.
Try clearing the system cache and cam data first.
If the cam app has been updated, roll back to factory loaded version.
Also try in safe mode to rule out a 3rd party app causing the issue.

It's better to find the root cause. A factory reset is the last option. It's used after a major firmware upgrade, if a poorly written app alters hidden user settings or in the case of malware.
Problem being is you never learn what the root cause was... if the issue reappears in the future.
In the long run a conservative troubleshooting approach wastes less of your time. Use factory reset as a last ditch option. Always clear the system cache before you go full nuke as it can fix many strange glitches.
Also try a hard reboot (simulates pulling battery).
Did you do any firmware upgrades?
Did you use SmartSwitch to help load this phone?
If so factory reset. Do Not use SmartSwitch on the next load...

It's called Touch Screen Test - there's a thread on Reddit about it here...
NOTE: Put a www. in front of the addresses and copy them to your browser - if I put the link it posts the entire threads in this post, which seems a bit impolite for others.

I found another thread that claims it was fixed in updates so check you have the latest firmware also.
reddit.com/r/Galaxy_S20/comments/jau31s/s20_fe_touchscreen_issue_thread/
For me i found that i get the touchscreen issue, more like the glide keyboard plays up
Reboot always fixes it.
And its usually after phone has been on continually for days on end that it acts up
As for the front camera, I agree its poor.
I find i have to add colour to the images and chuck on the warm filter to full to get warmth.
I had the same bad luck of buying this phone. Have been facing the same issue. But there is something surprising I have found in the front camera of this device (S20 FE). See the difference between the photo mode and video mode of Front camera. I found the difference quite noticeable. This confirms that there is nothing wrong with the front camera of this device but definitely with its software. In video mode of Front Camera I see no lag as in photo mode and the camera is as smooth as it could be. Kindly see the difference and do let me know.
Regards
Robin Arora
