USB connection issue - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I need to install custom recovery for my TAB S2 713 and I came across an issue in step 1. When connecting the tablet to my PC, it doesn't seem to recognise it.
- The tablet is charging which indicates that USB port is working
- I have enabled the USB debugging, installed drivers, used different PC and even a different cable and nothing seems to work.
Has anyone ever came across this problem? Factory reset didn't seem to help. I read on some forums that original Samsung charger can do the trick, however I no longer have one.
I would really appreciate any help since I need to install custom recovery for my tablet.
Million thanks in advance.

[Q] USB device not recognized

Hi, I've been transferring some stuff to my galaxy s and now i'm getting this error everytime i attach the USB (USB Device not being recognized). I already reinstalled the samsung USB drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled USB root hub drivers, used a different USB port and restarted both PC and galaxy. Anyone have any idea how i can get my device to get recognized by my pc?
no one's encountered this problem before?
I get this on and off - i'm on Win 7. I tried all 4 ports and my hub and sometimes it plays ball - sometimes not.
I often find if I change the phone from 'mass storage' to 'ask on connection' it seems to improve its chances.
Worth a try.
Homer
I tried this as well including turning USB debugging on and off.. no luck though. Only thing i haven't done is format the internal SD, but I dont want to go there unless there really is no chance of fixing this. Any help you be greatly appreciated!

[Q] Phone semi bricked and unknown device in download mode

Hey all,
I've got a problem related to my Micro USB port (at least I think it is).
[Long story]
I've got a very annoying issue right now. Today I flashed Team ICSSGS RC4.1. Later when I connected my Galaxy S to my PC with the usb cable, no recharging icon appeared and my pc did not react to the connection at all.
Thinking it was a bug in RC4.1 (as OneCosmic RC 2.3 had the mass storage issue) I searched the ICSSGS thread, but not a single issue about mass storage mode was posted. So I flashed Devil kernel, hoping to fix it, but it didn't. Reflashed RC4.1, but problem still persisted.
I went radical and recovered a nandroid backup in CWM of ICSSGS RC3.0 (the one is was running earlier today), but somehow the recovery failed and left me with a semi-bricked phone. (Actually the 2nd time in a row when recovery semi-bricked my phone.)
Only download mode works. Recovery and normal boot bootloop.
[/Long story]
In short:
When connecting to PC to flash with Odin:
-At first the PC did not even notice the phone being connected through USB. Nothing happens.
-After blowing in the contacts of the Micro USB port, PC recognizes connection, but gives "Unknown device" error upon connecting. Reinstalling Samsung drivers does not work at all. Tested on laptop and home PC.
-Somehow I always have to blow into the Micro USB port to create contact and to get the PC to recognize a connection. But that's about it. "Unknown device" every time.
-When I plug in wall charger, the big battery icon appears, but stays grey all the time and after half a minute the phone boots, starting the bootloop.
Could it be that my Micro USB port is broken?
Any solution for this?
Thanks in advance!
I feel so stupid for recovering that nandroid backup. Otherwise my phone would still be working...
you will need the nexus drivers for your comp found here : w w w.multiupload.co.uk/BUCFT8M42 as your samsung drivers are no use now.
Thanks for your advice: Going to test it right away.
Unfortunately your link does not work for me.
I had the same problem but replacing the cable solved it.
Sorry for the duff link http://www.multiupload.co.uk/BUCFT8M42N

Tested this morning with someone else's cable, still the same issue.
Tried the Nexus driver, but still nothing. Also having troubles again to let the usb connection register. It connected after cleaning it, but now it does not seem to connect at all.
Could it be that the phone is completely busted and therefor breaks usb connection?
Haven't heard such a story yet, but is it possible?
I've got it sorted out.
Since it might be helpful for others that are searching for a solution:
1. I cleaned out my Micro-USB port using micro interdental brushes and a few drops of isopropyl alcohol. It also doesn't hurt to clean the contacts of your USB cable, just to be sure.
2. Connected the phone to my PC. This time my pc recognized it as a serial gadget.
3. Disconnected the phone and installed Nexus S driver (because of ICS rom on my Galaxy S)
Next connection my device was automatically recognized as an android phone.
Odin saw my phone as well and I could flash again!
My phone is back on Team ICSSGS RC4.2.
Thanks everyone for helping!
Same Issue cant fix
Hey guys im glad to see others are having the same issue but i cant seem to fix mine.
Assume im an idiot and ive missed something out but ill explain my situation....
Galaxy i9000 - windows 7 32bit - put ics on it a few weeks back following a guide on youtube (had never used odin or anything like that before) got it working but now have no usb comm options in the ics settings. now when i plug the usb (when it does detect at all) it says driver havent worked - device manager shows unknown device - i try update the driver and it says the best driver is already installed.
Im completely stuck and want to revert back to gingerbread so i can use my usb functions again. If i can get odin to see my phone again ill be relieved.
Any ideas?
Cheers guys! Seán.

[Q] [q] USB BRICK - Devs PLZ HELP!!!

I have a USB BRICK and wishing that someone could help me fix it
[STORY]
My phone was working perfectly until a few days ago when I noticed that USB connection to PC stopped working. I was running imilkas CM9 v2. USB used to work perfectly and then randomly, it just stopped working, I don't have a clue what caused it because I did not flash anything on the phone.
When I connect my Phone to the Computer via USB cable, my phone start charging and nothing else happens. My computer does not even show that I connected a USB device.
I've tried 3 other computers with the drivers and the same issue (1 comp with xp and the others with win 7). Also, not to mention, I've tried multiple USB cables, including the original. I've tried USB Debugging on and off, doesn't make a difference.
I've tried ADB and it does not recognize the device either.
In CWM when I mount USB storage, it does not work.
In download mode, when I plug in the cable, nothing happens, odin does not detect any connection.
USB connection to the computer is Dead and it does nothing but charge my phone. I've searched this issue and I believe its called a USB BRICK
[THINGS I'VE TRIED THAT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE]
1. Factory Reset.
2. Used Mobile Odin, reverted to my Phone's Stock GB ROM (KK2). On stock GB, I tried Kies Air and that worked fine, but USB connection had the same issue. Also tried Stock ICS via Mobile Odin
3. Formatted the Internal Storage
4. Removed the SIM Card and Micro SD card, still no luck.
5. re-installed CWM manually (without pc)
6. Tried various different roms in the development section
7. Called Samsung... They said they wont service my phone because I'm located in Canada and I have the International Note. They told me I'd have to take it to the country I bought it from.
8. Replaced the micro USB hardware component inside the phone (bought it from ebay)
9. Tried a Jig to see if it recognizes that and it booted me into download mode but doesn't recognize the USB connection to PC.
I've been struggling with this issue for the past 2 months and have gotten sick of this issue.:crying: I've tried all that was possible based on my knowledge and now I need some serious help. I've posted this issue in the Q&A before and about 3 people responded with suggestions that I had already mentioned in thread. I believe this issue might be caused by a file that has gotten corrupted on the phone because i've even replaced the hardware (usb port) and it didn't change anything. If anyone can offer any help/suggestions that would be great. Sorry for making this such a long post but I really need some help and wanted to give as much info as possible.
Thanks in advance.
I had that same problem before, it's really frustrating having tried so many stuff before finally I gave up and went to service center to replace the usb hardware module, which solves the problem. When I asked them why it happened and how to prevent that same thing to happen again, they didn't answer.

1. You bought it from ebay
2. You changed it personally
Send it in for proper repair.

I am well versed in replacing hardware components myself. The usb module I bought from ebay does exactly the same thing as the original one. It too charges but does not recognize PC connectivity which means it wasnt the usb module which was defective, its something else!
I would love to send it in for repair, but Samsung WON'T service my phone because I live in Canada and they do not sell the international Note here. When I called them they told me to take it to where I bought it from (which was in UAE). Since I am not going there and have no plans to go there, I am stuck with a phone that can't be warrantied!
Any one know how to fix this issue?
Maybe what you need is just to replace the usb cable... Who knows? (trying-to-help mode).

I've tried multiple different cables, including the original, in multiple different usb ports! nothing works.
I appreciate the suggestions tho
Try another set of driver from Samsung.
The set in the file from link below works perfectly for me:

If it does not work then, maybe, try to change rom. Load a custom rom.zip to external sdcard and flash using CWM.
cheers.
I had the somewhat similar problem, few days back and started a thread.

Ok here is the solution. It worked for me. Hope it helps someone
1. download latest version of kies for PC
2. uninstall previous kies (if any) and install new one.
3. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284#
Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched. Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode. (Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.)
4. Plug the USB cable.

Hmm it looks like your issue was different.. at least you were getting some sort of message that you connected your phone. When I connect it to the computer, its as if nothing happened. I've even tried linux and its just that the phone isnt recognizing its connected to a computer, it thinks its connected to a charger.
I tried your suggested solution, still no avail!

if you have CWM installed, just boot into CWM Recovry >
advance > wipe battery status
turn off the phone, remove battery for 3 mins and than reboot normally. Let us know, if it works.

I faced a similar problem a few days ago. Here's what I did :
Try cleaning micro usb port by rubbing alcohol using paper strips. They should be thin enough so that you can clean both top and bottom part of the port. Then let it dry under the sun or by itself.Make sure that you don't blow any air into the port else condensation may occur.
By the way, is it monsoon season there in Canada ?

Almost same situation here from the highlighted above. when I plug my charger in the usb it just charge the phone and PC cannot detect it. Also, it only charge the phone when i reboot it. If I unplug the charger while the phone is on, and plug the charger back, it will not charge. However, when I insert the usb cable in my phone, there is a notification in my phone which says "usb connector connected" but the PC cannot detect my phone for mass storage, as well as for Kies and Odin.
My usb port was already replaced by Samsung but same problem still occurs. It could be a software/configuration related issue. Or could it be a usb brick? Pls help.
have you tried to put the phone in download mode and checked if odin is able to detect the phone.. what rom are you on.. have you tried to flash a stock rom ?

<SOLVED> Upgrade android on a GT-P1000L

Hello,
Need to upgrade an old tablet to whatever newer version I can. Currently it has:
Model: GT-P1000L
Android version: 2.2
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
I found a few links to do the ROM to Lollipop and/or KitKat, however, I am having issues with the tablet being recognize by Windows 8.1.
Drivers are not working, but even when I plug it in, I never even get an "unknown device" in device manager. Odin will not see it as well when in download mode and I have the original USB cable.
Added: I just tried a Win7 VM and no luck as well. Tablet not recognize at all, it does not show in "device manager" with or without drivers.
Any ideas anyone?
bump
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers or else install samsung keys....or try another cable.
You also have to be in the download mode(volume down+power key) to use odin.
If all this does not work then try on some other system
Thanks! I tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers multiple times, different versions, etc. Tried a Win7 VM on a MAC + machines with Win 8.1 and 10. None worked. Also tried different Odin versions, same result. And yes, all in download mode.
Yesterday after some research, I am leaning towards a bad cable. It seems some cables are good for charging (in this case it will charge) but not for data transfer.
Will keep you posted.
After dealing with a bad cable, I was finally able to install CWM as in this guide. However, as soon as I installed OMNI 4.4.4., it booted on TWRP 2.8.1. The touch is not working on screen nor the buttons while on TWRP. Cannot do anything.
- ADB shows the device in recovery
Can something be done? I was following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab/general/how-to-install-android-cm12-lollipop-5-t3018841
SOLUTION:
This sure was a learning lesson. For some reason, anytime I flashed "CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS.tar" I lost the touch screen in Android and in CWM. So when flashing Omni 4.4.4, could not do anything in TWRP. After lots of reading and some trial/errors, this worked...
- Re-stock using firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
- From stock 2.3.6, I flashed CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS.tar with Odin
- Lost touch in screen
- Boot to recovery and in CWM, using volume and power buttons, I installed zip ROM called "HumberOS-v2.1"
- Boot to recovery, Got TOUCH back! Do all wipes.
- From CWM, installed Omni 4.4.4, which gave me TWRP (with touch screen working!) and the ability to install any 5.x or 6.x ROMs as specified here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab/general/how-to-install-android-cm12-lollipop-5-t3018841.

HI, I had the same issue. maybe should try first to make sure you have the right drivers. look for samsung driver for mobile devices and try on different usb ports. I have 3.0 usb and 2.0 usb on my laptop and when I connect my tablet to the 3.0 ones it doent work! so I started using the 2.0 and went smooth
Yes, make sure the correct drivers are there and also try different ports and different PCs if you can. Your issue is a bit different to mine, as it was never shown as "unknown device" for me.
Just FYI... It took me a couple of days to finally research and find out there are different cables, some for charging only and some for charging and data transfer. In my case since I had the charge only cable, PCs never detected the tablet. New cable first try it was detected by Odin.
So, when you say your tablet has new life, how good are we talking? I flashed mine with Cyanogenmod 9.something a while back, and it's near to unusable. Would like to bring it back to life...
we all have different meaning for unusable. For me, the fact that it can have code 5.x or newer is a life saver.

Can't root in any way, out of ideas

Lovely community,
I'm trying to instal a custom recovery (TWRP) for my mi 9t pro.
However, although it does charge and fastcharge, it doesn't get recognized by my computer (or any other computer I've tried).
It only shows "unrecognized usb device".
I figured this would be a driver problem, so I reinstalled drivers, even forced a driver instal through device manager for this device but somehow it still doesn't show. Unfortunately, without a pc connection, rooting my phone gets really hard.
Ofcourse USB debugging, etc. are enabled.
I'm out of hope or ideas, maybe you guys could help me out here? I've been struggling for over 7 hours so far ahha so I figured I should ask for help.
Thanks in advance!!

Obvious things to try at first are changing the USB cable, trying different USB ports on the computer and, if possible, trying a different computer.
A poor quality or damaged USB cable is often the problem with these types of issues. Followed by a dodgy USB port, that's had a lot of use, on an older computer.

I assume you are using Windows 10?
Normally, connecting the phone to the PC, with the standard USB cable, Windows will automatically recognise the phone and install the required drivers without you needing to do anything? After this adb and fastboot should recognise the device without any further input.
Try removing the phone from Windows device manager and then plugging it in to the PC and see if it can automaticallyinstall it's drivers successfully.
