Hi all, I need a little help.
I bought this phone last 8th of May. Since then I got a single update through FOTA. I don't remember previous build number, but then I had Android 9, now I have Android 10.
Then, 3/4 days ago I got a notification about a new update (17.0240.2007.27), I tried to download it but I got an error: if I tap "Update now" in just 1 sec I get a message like "Update not successful, the device was restored to original configuration".
So, I wrote to Asus. They asked me for detailed build number:
Kernel version:
4.14.117-perf
[email protected]#1
Fri Jun 5 11:34:10 CST 2020
Build number:
QKQ1.190825.002.WW_Phone-17.0240.2004.9
Extension ROM:
1.1.184
I sent these infos to Asus and they replied that is obvious I modified the phone and installed a "not original" firmware, as stated by the build number.
But I never installed a custom firmware, I never rooted the phone: this is my work phone, it will be silly.
Could you please tell me how they could say that by the build number or other datas I shared with them?
And what could I say to convince them I never modified anything?
This because they already wrote "we'll open an RMA, you'll ship the phone to us, and we'll reply with a price quotation to repair your phone since it is no longer under warrany since you modified it".
Thank you.
Don't call asus and never mail them.The call centres don't know about these problems like system update failed etc.And if u sent ur build no to them and if it does not matches with theirs, they will put ur phone out of warranty.So just directly take it to the service centre or try restoring ur phone.The call centres are a bunch of noobheads.

Thank you, I didn't know that ... BTW it should be a customer service and I coordinate a customer service: I hope my collaborators will not be as those of Asus...

Same identical problem. Contacted by email and in the end they told me the same thing, installed non-original software. Obviously I only made updates via FOTA to avoid problems. This thing makes no sense
Just tried installing via the zip file from asus website and it worked.Try that.
Never contact asus regarding updates.My phone has already came from a service center as it was facing random shutdown issues and the screen was turning off at 40 degree C while playing games.They took the phone, flashed the firmware through their so called ENGINEERING MODE and returned it back to me.It was good for some days but the issue has started again now.Turning off while charging when phone gets heated and random shutdown while playing.There are a lot of users with this problems in their zenforuns and asus is not addressing this issue.Its a major device flaw and still they r quiet about this and launching Rog 3.

updated to new version, i get an error message "Phone Model Not Found" 'My Account application is designed only for T-Mobile Android supported phones. We're working on a solution for unsupported phones.'. is anyone getting this? my phone is rooted and running Cyanogen ROM. called TMobile and they could not resolve this issue.
Try removing app reboot and reinstalling? Haven't heard of this problem and mine works fine..
Same issue CM 3.9.2
i called TMO and they told me to uninstall and reinstall. same problem. I didn't have the guts to tell the Tmo rep that my phone was rooted...so they could not resolve this issue..though my friend who works for TMo says they don't care if your phone is rooted...i might just give them a call tomorrow again..
Umm, not reccomended, I talked to a customer svc rep on my 4th warranty swap and to try to bypass all t he retarded troubleshooting told him id reverted it back to rc 29 to try to fix it.... he took that to mean id rootesd it and started the process of voiding my warranty... :-((( I immeadeatly asked to speak to a supervisor and told him id only reloaded the stock rc29 rom and that in no way an official firmware should touch my warranty he aggreed and told me they'd be explicitly checking my phone for 3rd party mods..... I wasn't an happy panda....
On another incident I spoke to a much cooler rep and mentioned installing an app id found here on xda, he immeadeatly warned me 3rd party mods void my warranty and I clarified by saying it was only an application not a ROM....
Maybe I get the dickheads or my call center is just on the watch for it or what I had a t-mo store assoc. Tell me that no software ROMS firmware etc could void the warranty, only hard mods eg. Opening the phone
This problem is discussed extensively in this thread along with some potential fixes.

i got this to work.

Throw them off their game by asking which Primus article or Streamline path indicates that a flashed ROM will void your warranty. Seriously - I know of no such policy. Of course, maybe I'm just to generous. You tell me what I want to hear and I'll send out a phone (assuming I know it not to be a stupid problem like no memory left on a blackberry, etc)...
But seriously I keep hearing on forums like this people talk about voiding your warranty with rooting, but I don't see anything in policy. I'd like to know if anyone has ever been charged the $100 OOW fee due to a rooted phone?
I sold my G1 week ago ( i had 2) now there buyer tells me that the touch screen doesn't working any more ,but the thing is that he tells me that he took the G1 to T-mobile retail store and they told him that the touch screen had stop working 2days before the day that i sold the phone (but i was working when i sold it i was using the phone) now my question is that is this even possible ? can they pull up this kind of information ? the device is running the latest CM rom ?

I'm guessing you wiped your phone before sending it to him. Therefore, any log data they could collect that would indicate an error would start from right after you wiped it (probably 2 days before the day you sold it?). That would be why they say that: Running a custom ROM you probably have weird log info. Tmo reps aren't developers. They don't read logs, they just connect it to a machine that pulls it and says that weird logs start 2 days before you sold it, so the tmo rep says that that's when the screen stopped working.
This is all speculation, but makes sense to me.

I don't want to pay.so expensive!!
Can I fix the problem??
i need your hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you install Froyo?
Nothing you can do. However, if you only ever used kies for updates, they shouldn't be able to do that. But your phone is under warranty, so the charge is a bit funny (there might be a charge, but it shouldn't cost THAT much)
He most likely installed froyo beta, do a search as theres a few threads and fixes for it.

IMEI is changed so the warranty will cancel automatically.
The only time i've seen when people got their IMEI switched is when they installed the leaked ROMs from Korea
if you didn't do it, then some body else did, or your got might have been swapped when you didn't noticed or something along the line
the IMEI doesn't change on its own, there is no download able android market software that can do that, as it's againts the law to begin with, and 2 it voids the warranty, and 3 you can be charged of criminal theft for cloning somebody else IMEI etc, etc
so yeah, thes no way that was done via download able software
it had to be plugged in to a computer usin Odin or something along the line, or maybe Jtagged to be able to change that sort of thing
Did you buy the phone from some body else?
Hi,
I recently rooted my phone so that I can utilise it with a new Appradio2. It was running fine until yesterday when phone calls and texts stopped working all together, though data still works fine.
The phone occasionally pops up with an 'MM #6' error which appears to be caused then the phone IMEI has been locked out. I have been in contact with my phone provider (Giff-Gaff) and they have stated the phone isn't locked out.
My phone details are:
* Model no: C6603
* Android Version 4.1.2
* Baseband version 9x15A-ACEFWMAZQ-30110017-11
* Kernel version 3.4.0-g298631f-02021-gc1b7814
* Build number 10.1.A.1.434
The rooted apps I have been playing with are GMG Gesture, Greenify and Pimp My Rom.
I believe I was playing with Pimp My Rom before the issues were caused but I cannot remember what I changed. I also backed the phone up with Titanium Backup before the problem started and restored that backup yet it has not rectified the problem.
My last restort, unless anyone knows how I could resolve this is to return it to it's pre-rooted state and start again.
Any help would be grately appreciated.

where did you buy the phone? if you buy it from a shady dealer they might have report it stolen and tell your celluar service to block the IMEI...I know this happen alot on GS3 forums or check to see if your IMEI has been deleted off your phone, flashing sometime does this too, again this is on GS3

I bought it direct from Amazon so I doubt that is the problem. Additionally I asked my Phone Network Providor and they said they can't see a problem with the IMEI.
Thanks for the reply.

Yes I typed in *#06# on my phone and checked my IMEI number appeared fine. I then sent that to GiffGaff (my mobile network provider) asking whether it had been blocked and they said it hadn't.

I'll try un-rooting it and see if that resolves the problem. If it doesn't then I'll return it to the supplier and get a replacement. That won't be such a bad thing as I have a little scratch on the screen anyway.
Thanks for the help
Dave
Just refresh Rom. That should solve your problem

Then as already advised reflash and start from scratch which is what you should just do in these situations because no one can help unless you can list exactly what you've done.

Just to update you all, I unrooted and reflashed the phone and the error remained. Since then I've been in contact with the phone supplier (AVTree LTD, via Amazon.co.uk) and they have stated that they have had several complaints regarding phones from the same supplier recently and have forwarded the information onto Suffolk Police to look into. They have also said that they will offer me a full refund and will cover the cost of returning the phone.
Looking on the bright side at least it appears that I didn't do anything to kill the phone. I have also ordered a new one that is now £60 cheaper than the price I bought the last one for.
Thanks for all your help.

Doesn't sound good but at least you've not lost anything.
I finally received my preorder Note 7 on Thursday 18th Aug, was very excited to try the Iris scanner but unfortunately it stopped working after setup/transferring everything from Note 4 to Note 7 and also realized that the phone doesn't have auto brightness check box in quick setting or in settings->Display. So did a factory reset hoping to get Iris and brightness sensor to work but
no luck.
So I called T-Mobile about the issue, she told me to call Samsung. Called Samsung explained everything to the Samsung Rep, he said he is gonna put me on hold and phone got disconnected plus he didn't call me back even though he asked for me number in case of disconnect.
when i called the second time the samsung rep told me to take the phone to Best Buy for Samsung Experience Consultant to REFLASH the Firmware. I asked her if she can send me the firmware so i could flash it myself, she said No it has to be a Secure Flash.
Today i took the phone to Best Buy and samsung consultant check the phone and saw that Iris is keep failing when he tried to Setup it up so he connect it to his Laptop to flash but unfortunately the phone would register with his laptop so he couldn't do anything and told me to have T-Mobile replace the phone since it is defective.
Called T-Mobile after going through all that BS. TMO Rep told me since the phone is on JOD I'd have to return the phone by Mail and wait till they receive the phone then i can go to a T-Mobile store and buy a new Note 7.
I love the phone but all this BS makes me not to get another Note 7 after i return this defective one on Monday.
UPDATE:
Returned the defective Note 7 and bought another one from the store. this one is working fine and No issues yet. Thank God.
And it will probably take weeks till i get refund for the defective one that i returned...
I am sorry if you got a defective unit. Just be aware that T-mobile does treats this as RMA, which in this case, they will process it as a return, then they would send a new one. If I am you, I would return it, then get one from the store. If you had any issues escalate the issue because it's certainly not your fault and they should be faster!
man that sucks. I normally dont have to go through all that if i need a replacement. They send me out another phone and i put mines in that box and return it.
But i would try a full reset from the boot menu.
Once you done that add your patten then reboot.
Then try the iris scanner.
Also have you try to use odin yourself to see if the phone get detected?

I couldn't find the Firmware that time to odin it myself. I tried to Smart switch's device initialization and it asked me for model and serial but no firmware available to download.
I did factory reset from Recovery and from setting but didn't help.
it was definitely hardware failure not software.
