I managed to fry my kaisers circuits by plugging a 4 AMP car charger into the USB power port.
It only took one second, i smelled the smoke and instantly unplugged the cable, but it was too late.
Surprisingly the device was still powered and functioning, so i didn't freak out. The battery was already dead. after around 30 seconds it died again, i walked back home and tried charging it with mains adapter with no luck.
Next morning, i took my handset to a local electronics repair shop to check it, and i told them the story. they called me back and said the motherboard needs to be replaced. and it would cost me around $470. (and its not covered by manufacturers warranty. ouch!!)
After hours of cursing and smashing my head into the steering wheel, i thought i'll pick it back and try something my self.
the part where the device stayed on even after the smoke came out led me to believe that the board is still fine. and that only the charging port got fried.
the problem is, I don't have a desk charger to charge my battery and test my theory, a disassembly guide would also be very helpful.
if the main mother board was really fried, is there any place that i can buy it from? i did some goggling around with no luck.Anything cheaper than what these guys are asking for would be great, i have a feeling they are trying to rip me off.
If any of you guys can help me out, id be grateful.

I have a brand new AT&T Tilt ( kaiserII HTC8925) for sale i can sell to you for $375.00 New In the box never been used. PM me if interested.
Sorry I can't help in this matter, but I thought i would post this here rather than start a whole new thread.
I have heard lots of horror stories of in-car chargers frying kaisers. Has anyone got an in-car charger that works?

Order one that is made for the Kaiser...a lot of people are trying to use old chargers just cause the tip is the same.
I got my stuff from PocketSolutions.com
Car chargers that work for the 8525 should work fine for the 8925. It just can't do that "boost" charging feature the Tilt supposedly has.

That one won't damage the Kaiser, but it has only half the mA of the proper one. This can sometimes cause problems if the charge level of the battery is very low. For charging from time to time and when battery isn't near empty you will be ok.
Mike
well a quick tip would probably be checking the fuze on your charger, anything below an amp wouldnt do much damage. -.-;
4 amps fried my tilts motherboard, so watch out guys
still looking for a service manual, now that my phone is dead, i want to dissect it,
I'm using a cheapy chinese one made for an Imate Jam if that helps.

the part of the board responsible for charging is probably what went up in smoke - you probably smelt (smelled?) resistors/capacitors overheating/melting - they said a total mobo replace as that circuitry is probably all on the same board - sure you might be able to replace it yourself but i dunno - might be a bit of a mega mission what with all these micro components around on these sorts of device

Yep, these devices now have multilayer boards that make it virtually impossible to do a bit of home soldering/component replacement on.
Bring back the days of my youth when we had valves (tubes in US I believe), they were nice - and kept your hands warm as you soldered away in a freezing garage
Mike
Cracked Open
I opened up the case and unscrewed my way to the burnt part of the board.
thanks to mike and the manual he posted on some other fourm

Okay now i can at least see where the damage is.
Still stubborn that i am, I did not believe that this IC killed the entire mobo, so i invested in a desk charger for the battery and charged it up fully.
I just tested it now and to my surprise it WORKED!!

Of course, my joy ride did not last for long as the device started heating up. I switched it back off once i felt the abnormal amount of heat generated.
I tried it again after it cooled down. This time I kept it for around three mins, and again it heated up, at the end of, it just shut it self off. (still heating up).
After that scary little experiment i learned few things:
1- The device motherboard is alive, there is no need to replace the entire board.
2- The burnt IC is probably meant to control the usb port and the power, therefore my usb port is useless at this stage.
3- charging the battery externally wont help much without resolving the heat issue.
I tried to look up diagrams for the devices board and the only thing i could found is this:
http://www.cdmatech.com/download_library/pdf/diagram_msm7200_cs.pdf
which is useless.
Any help would be much appreciated..
cheers
Can anyone help me with this?

I need to buy OEM charger port circuit for samsung galaxy note. I have located the part from china but they want me to buy in quantity of 5 or 6 and the shipping alone will be 25 dollars + long waiting time etc. I need to located this part from an ebay type vender who will accept paypal and ship it to me in a reasonable time.
My usb port on galaxy is defective and the phone thinks its always on charging mode even when I am not charging the phone. I have tried all the tricks and wipes and resets and stocks roms and cleaning the usb pins and even pushing them down. nothing works for me and since I bought it off a shady store in dominican republic with a shady receipt, I am out of warranty luck.
Please help me locate this part as I need to repair my note as soon as possible.
thanks
Samsung should have a better costumer service and more consideration for their end costumers...
The phone is only on sale for a few months, so unless they can proof that it was user error, all gnotes in the world are still under warranty, even in countries with only 1 year warranty... there should be no need for a receipt at this point...

i can't contact samsung usa because the note is not even released in USA. In order to contact them in south america, I have to have cell phone company's authorization. seems like the my carrier has given me a middle finger. so lets wait and see what happens. I will write to samsung and see what they say.
no you don't
The port is not broken you need to clean it with tooth brush and contract cleaner I used nail varnish remover take out Battery pour cleaner on brush and scrub then leave to dry for 20 minutes. My note was doing this for 1 Month that's what fixed it I also searched for USB port but never found one trust me you got moisture in USB and it has oxidised giver it a really good clean and it will be fixed its the same thing with galaxy s2

Be VERY VERY carefull spraying contact cleaner into the USB socket.
I did the same thing with my HTC HD2 and ruined the screen. A small amount must of leaked into the screen & left perminate light patches all over the screen.
never pour

I said put on brush not in phone, but keep the upright so it cant happen till it's dried out
just incase.Never pour or spray anything in any part of any phone.
Good tip for someone daft enough to try that though.
i have used nail polish remover inside the usb port with tooth brush and it made no real difference. the note turned on for 5 minutes and acted good. I was happy but then after a few minutes, the same problem came back. the note thinks its charging and won't turn on unless I connect it to charger. I opened up my note and took out the usb port circuit. cleaned it with nail polish remover and resetted the ribbon cable. still I have the same problem. I need to buy a new usb port circuit and change it myself. I need to know where can I get one.
try again
I had to do it 3x and also swap charger cable. All of sudden it will start working. Can't see USB port been readily available anytime soon.Is your phone rooted if it is you can boot from cwm without plugging into charger these were the exact symptoms I had but after failing to find USB port had to fix it battery was draining at twice the rate as usual.Think it oxidized my USB cable swell cause that don't work anymore.
Greetings, I'm recently bought a used Motherboard around $90 bucks at ebay from China and shipped to Malaysia, for Samsung Note 5, but I made a horrible mistake during the disassembling process, that I tear out the signal flex cable of note 5 with the chip stucked inside (causing me unable to link the cable to the recently bought motherboard), so now I moved out both signal flex cable from the phone and hoping for motherboard and screen able to boot. However, the phone is not responding still though I replace the dead motherboard with the used motherboard. Is the signal flex capable really crucial for the phone booting? I hope I could get some advice from this platform.
Note that: I charged the phone with fully functional battery to test booting, and another attempt without battery but connecting to charger. But none of it gives me positive feedbacks.. Could this be a fake motherboard as well? or it just need signal flex cable to be connected for booting?
Thank You for any replies!
Hai, i have recently changed my charging board on a local shop near my native. From that day mobile is not getting detected on pc or laptop, but only gets charging...
Any body know link to buy a genuine charging board or anyway to fix this. Thanks
Hi
Trying to repair a Samsung SM-A715F/DS mobile phone. It began experiencing issues with the battery not holding charge. This lead to the phone not charging or turning on at all. I replaced the battery and charging port and the phone seemed to charge once and comes on now but again has started refusing to charge. Not sure what to do now any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
buy new cable? If you already changed the usb jack, it's either serious hardware issue or software prevents charging (very unlikely)
Is there no way I can fix it then if it's a serious hardware issue ?
Depends on country. In Venezuela probably repair shops can fix it. In Germany repair shop will just replace the whole pcb mainboard. If you would have the knowledge to fix it yourself you wouldn't ask here, so the answer is NO
Well that was kind of the point of asking here but whatever then.
This is a developer forum, not a technical support. you cannot expect that coding nerds have soldering skills to mess with hardware. typing on a keyboard is much more comfortable than understanding and repairing hardware. Do you have any imagination about how tiny these parts are?
