Tic-tac-toe game for S Pen? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hello,
Few days ago I had this bright idea about a tic-tac-toe game in which you actually draw the X and O symbols so it would be perfect for any Note device. Anyone know if such a game exists already?

Yes
You don't need to install any additional software.
With s-pen draw big hash sign (#) so then game starts. First player draws x sign into any free slot (9 options). Second player draws o sign into any free slot. And then it is first players turn again... Until any player has drawn three same signs in row, column or diagonally (he/she won). Or all slots are used (nobody won).

im360VR - Immersive Media

Everyone saw this nice addition yet? Was really nice specially the Rosie and the New Zeeland sports 360 videos.
However after playing 5 videos in a row I got a message that my gear vr needs to cool down for optimal performance. Is this a Exynos issue in the im360VR app? Or does it happen to SD as well?
Note:
When experiencing this one make sure you discovered the possibility to turn through your gear vr-touchpad.
Makes it a lot easier and less turning head while watching the Rosie vid to watch who is talking or jumping off that aeroplane facing backwards trying to turn your head 180 degrees.
This functionality is only available in im360VR and not in Oculus 360 videos to me, is there a way to turn your "start position" there other than reorienting? Would be nice... maybe with some game pad?

These videos are terribly out of focus and barely watchable.
I don't think they are that bad, some of them are not well put together 360 because you can see the edges where the pictures are merged, if that's what you mean with out of focus.
But still nice addition with new experiences.
Not too many decent "real world/person" 360 experiences expect for cirque de soleil and evolution of verse is also really well done though it's also has animation.
All the other animated and games are better in many ways with less obvious pixeling effect. But it's a nice idea visiting real places through the vr 360. And this does that.
And as said nice functionality with choosing which direction to face using the gear vr touchpad.

I'm surprised you're comparing Felix&Paul / VRSE content with this. This is just spherical video, while the other is 3D spherical video, which is infinitely more complex to achieve.
There is a ton of spherical video available (there's a whole topic of links here), but the immersion is completely inferior to actual, properly stitched 3D spherical.
PS: Which part of Evolution of Verse do you reckon is not animation?
Yes that is true didn't mean to compare them as in that they are equal in any way, just the type of content I was thinking of, closer to real world experiences than say temple run. And it doesn't apply to Ev.o.v. now that I think about it. I guess all of it is animation but the start shows a view as if it was real and done nicely, it's not a gaming environment or cartoon environment if you know what I mean, more real. But the rest with pattern & colors in the sky and the train and ending it is really pure animation and not even meant to look real.
There is a ton out there yes but when it is added in Oculus store it is usually some kind of quality check and better than the average video you'll find which I find this was also.

Unfortunately that quality check guy fell into a coma when they released half of the Milk VR content heh.
You really should check airpano, quite a bit of their stuff is superb, if not for the 2d bit. Then also Fassbender stuff, the new beach one is quite a relaxing experience.
Then also rest of Felix & Paul stuff (you only mentioned Zarkana), and if you're the experimental type, hack yourself some JauntVR videos (all of them are live-action spherical 3D, just not as good as F&P at stitching).
Thanks for great tips will check.
Anyone know if the overheat is more common/happens faster on exynos since to me it happened in this regular 360 videos as well as in games like herobound after a while. Hopefully it is better in Android L.

Sure, VRSE video takes the cake on mine. I started a habit of taking the back out - makes it a little bit cooler and also easier to remove the battery one it hangs like a depressed banana. Guess we should start installing fans.
PS: If you quote someone they get an notification so that they know someone has responded to them.
Im running mine in power saving mode and never get overheating message. It doesnt affect performance of watching 360 videos untill they are in 4k resolution. With power saving enabled and 4k 360 video being played there are frames skipped while moving head around.
On the other note. Is there a way do move videos downloaded in Im360vr to memory card and still play them while using them with im360vr app? Maybe easier way is to reencode them to mp4 format readable by "regular" 360 videos app? Seems like im360vr videos are over 1 gigabyte in size.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
Ok gonna try power saving, you enable CPU performance limit then, and nothing else?
Frames skipped is not optimal but until overheating is solved it'll do if it's only on 4k vids.
Yeah most of them are around or just over 1GB. Gonna try and see if it works moving them, could be that they need mod for it to work.
I'm also interested in vice versa, moving 360 to the im360VR folder to enable touchpad function but doubt it will work without mod/reencoding
Will check back when tried.
Sent from my SM-N910U using Tapatalk
Try this experiment. Place a normal video in the 360 folder and watch it. You will see that you can actually pan as in a 360 video but the image is quite out of focus and zoomed in despite being completely clear viewed in Oculus Cinema. Now place a normal 360 video in your My Videos folder. Perfectly clear although odd looking.
Perhaps the focus problems in 360 videos is due to zooming?
Anyone else having issues of downloading these videos? I look at the download button and tap the headset and I get nothing!

Same here.
The only thing that works for me is the streaming from the office. (The lights are on today)
Did anyone experience changes in the content of im360VR ?
3-4 days ago there has been a huge variety of different scenes, maybe about 10-15 different videos to download and now there is only a few.
I am not sure whether i screwed up my content library, due to deleting some of the content with the note 4 standard filemanager app and not inside the im360's app.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the im360VR app didn't help.
Looks like immersive media changed the content...

16:9 Apps

Hi everybody. I'm very interested in buying this tablet, but I have read some reviews on Amazon where users say some 16:9 apps don't work because of this 4.£ screen.
I'm also a huge gamer, so can someone tell me if it's true and if you tried these 3 apps:
Springfield tapped out
- Blood brothers
- clash of clans.
I don't want to buy this tablet and then discover that I can't use my favourite apps/games
There's a simple solution, you simply use an app like rotation lite to force all apps to portrait mode.
It's what I do to force portrait apps to landscape on my S.
There's only one app (game) that I've had an issue with. Every other app I've used has adjusted to the correct resolution. The game is Wild Blood which I bought yesterday on sale for a buck or two and it reminds me of when I used to live in a Medieval Castle and slice fools up for fun and sport... ... ...decent game, just a "now and then" type thing. Anyway, it's really unplayable on the S2. Even the text and everything is centered down and to the right, and oddly when the gameplay starts the top half of the screen is entirely blank.
That is, however, the first and only time I've ever seen anything like that. Every other app/game I've used (many of which I also had on my Note 4) resizes perfectly. I am kind of curious about other Gameloft games though, because I deleted all of them when the permissions started getting out of control (I think it was Gangstar Vegas requesting "microphone" (???) that prompted that).
IMO the resolution isn't a problem or anything to worry about. If you have a decent phone and ever come across something where it's an issue then you're covered anyway. There are plenty of excellent games that are ideal for the tablet.

There is a slight glitch with Tapped Out at the moment, that it over-zooms slightly on some of the fixed screens. On the main screen it starts a bit more zoomed than normal, but you can zoom out by pinching. But screens like the friend town screen (the one with three Springfields side by side) are zoomed so that the left and right hand ones are half cut-off (but still selectable).
It's cosmetic (the game is still fully playable, indeed aside from the above it runs very sweetly on my S2 T710) and EA have been made aware of it via their forums. As yet it hasn't been resolved, but it's not a showstopper by any means.

Black crush....again?!?

After struggling with my S9+ and it's black crush problem (I returned it for this reason) I did really hoped N9 doesn't have such a problem.
Well, yesterday I tried my brand new N9 with Netflix (Luke Cage S2) and there's definitely a black crush issue!!!! Anyone else noticed?

Last night I tried some more test together with my OP6 and sadly I can confirm it! You can see in the attached files, the upper phone is the Note 9 while the lower one is the OP6. Both phone are on 50% screen brightness. The Note 9 has even the Video Enhancement enabled and I tried all the screen settings (adaptive, cinema amoled, pitcure amoled and basic) without any positive result. I took these pictures with my iPhone X and I can tell you for sure that the problem is even more evident in person!
Crushed
Yes, unfortunately, I am experiencing the black crush problem on my Verizon variant. I also experienced this problem with my previous T-Mobile Note 9. The screen calibration app from the Play Store does help, but for a phone this pricey, this software quality control problem is unacceptable.

YES. That’s why I returned it. It’s incredible even considering that S9 had exactly the same problem when it was released. I really did think this time samsung could take care of it....but I was wrong.

Mine's going back today. And, unfortunately, I'm giving up on Samsung with these phones. It's too bad, beacuse everything else has been stellar, but my typical use case makes for this problem to be too significant and too frequent to overlook ?.

I don’t remember the episode number. It should be one at the end of the season. Anyway, you can see it by yourself that is dark. With such a problem when you look in a dark part of a scene (for instance someone's hair) you just see a black mess with no details in it. [emoji20]

not exactly what i said either.
does removing auto brightness and adjusting it a bit more help?
because it just seems that's the issue.
edit:
i did tests with the note 9, note 8, and note 3
while there are slight differences between each device nothing like the pictures you posted.
all screens had auto brightness at off and brightness at 50 percent which was more than enough.
lets not forget 50% on a samsung and 50% in another brand might not have the same intensity/range.
and something obvious but i feel i must add in this case is that samsung phones when video is paused will auto dimm the screen a couple seconds after playback is halted.
in order to do your tests i figure you also paused playback. i just hope you didn't take pictures of when it was dimmed... because lol well that would be dimwitted.
when i compare one phone dimmed and one not dimmed i get the exact same results as your pictures. a brief touch of the screen restores normal brightness.
I have a little black crush on mine. But some people forget we are watching stuff on a mobile device that is packaged for small screens. The video is compressed and sometimes even the data.
I made sure to watch some high quality content, not just 1080p or 4k. Dim and well lit content. Also, a wide variety of YouTube videos. I experienced some black crush and many times brightening the luxury of the screen helped. To conserve battery some content I don't need to see all the details. Other times I knew it was compression compressing all the colors and shades out it.
The best way to test for black crush are contrasty pictures. I see many of the complaints about videos but sometimes it can't be helped as I'll watch the same content (same exact file for scientific reasons) on my JS9500 which is semi calibrated and Bam! there it is still. I've tested some with the camera and sometimes I will have slight black crush in darker pictures but it would be a challenging picture anyways. Sometimes black crush is non contrasty dark content and/or compression and codecs.

You can see what you want to see. I don't care.
If you want to believe that I took pictures of two phones letting one dim itself just to waste my time here writing this post...well do it.
I owned all Samsung phones since the first galaxy...let alone the many other phones I owned...S9 plus and Note 9 have such an issue. I read that S9 was updated back in may to solve it (although some say it's not solved at all). I don't feel like waiting 3 months to see maybe this problem solved. I paid a lot of money for note 9 and as I did for S9+ I decided to return it for this reason. Nor I feel like crancking all the way up brightness just to be able to see some details in dark areas nor even up to 60 nor 70% (thus you feel better?!?) when my other phones don't have such an issue (nor even my s8+ and note8).
Maybe for someone else this is not a problem, especially if they don't use the phone to watch movies or series on Netflix or other streaming services. I do. And I don't waste a thousand euros for something that won't let me see a decent image quality.

Oh well....my others mobile devices packed for small screen don't have such an issue. And I can watch whatever I want...but one has it and the other one doesn't.
There cannot be compression when we are talking about the same video on two different phones one showing the issue while the other one don't. I mean I even posted pictures showing the issue. And believe me when I tell you that they don't make justice to the real difference between the two devices....it was really worst in person. I don't need to be convinced of the contrary thanks.
Maybe the most clever way to answer could be "sorry pal, you got a lemon". I cannot exclude it (although after owning S9+ with the same issue I'm a bit suspicious about it). But no settings nor codec nor compression.

Lol. Drinking orange crush and Bombay Sapphire.
that brightness slider must be really heavy. wonder which is more difficult:
- moan about it and return the device
or
- move it 1/4 of an inch to the right. (that's 6.4 millimeters to you)
so can you take a picture of the same scenario as before but with a bit more brightness? its for science
now take an other picture of both phones maxed out. its for the win

[REQUEST] App Usage Monitoring

Is there any Magisk Module that is able to monitor the daily/weekly/monthly app usage on the smartphone?
There is an app in the PlayStore that can do that. It is called App Usage and App Usage Pro.
User Story:
I'd love to have something like this as an efficient and resource-saving Magisk module, continuously running/tracking in the background. It would be enough to write the measurements into a CSV file to enable the user to analyze the values on a PC with Excel or anything similar. The cherry on the top would be if the module could automatically copy the CSV file to a pre-defined SMB share on my house NAS as soon as the module would detect that the smartphone is connected to my WLAN.
A monthly histogram-like dashboard showing the usage of Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and SnapChat to my daugher would be a lovely use case. :good:

It's not only for parents. It's also for oneself to see one's own usage behaviour. And if it's about kids then yes, you must control it. It's only a question about the degree, granularity etc. E.g. in our case our daughter was surprised when she could see for herself how much time she spends with certain apps. This is about Dopamin addiction and awareness creation and it is about your accountability.
As a result, there is the request, and the fact that there are also apps for it, prove that there is a demand. So let's stay on topic here and don't get into an ideological debate here .

Question Not enough room for notification icons

I was using Xperia 5 II before and forgot what it's like to use a phone with a display cutout. On notched phones it's possible to have the icons below the clock, but I forgot what apps can do it. Any suggestions?
Go to settings->display->status bar icon manager and turn off stuff you might not need

I was looking at the Xperia 5 iii not the mark 2 I know there are differences but the next best for hardware is the Zenfone 8. What do you think of the LED notification on the 8? Does this thing overheat like so many say it does?

The LED is in a weird place for sure. It's a matter of getting used to I think. As for overheating, it depends on your usage. I posted some results in the Thinking about getting the ZenFone 8 thread the other day. It does get hot (40C and higher) if you play games or record at 4K. I Had to stop recording after 8 mins. Anything below 40 isn't harmful to the battery AFAIK. A case is a must if you don't want to feel the heat. The included one is pretty good though.
Do you know if the LED would react to app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow? It would be reminiscence of the old Nexus 1 Trackball.
