Hello,
For users familiar with both S pens, are the Note 10 and Note 20 S pens the same? I'd like more color options as I look for a pen that has a button that I can actually see. The S pen button isn't placed well (for me) and is difficult to feel. I constantly find myself looking down but can't see the button/button edges.
While I'm not a fan of the white S pen, the Gray button at least provides some contrast, the blue S pen would be great as well and the line between the button stands out more than the black one does.
Thought about placing a sticker on it, or something, just to help identify the button! Your input would be appreciated greatly!
Regards,
Tom

The Bluetooth will not work so you will lose those features related to it. No matter what I do I can't pair the Note 10 pen to my phone. Everything else will work however like any other Bluetooth less pen.
Tidbits,
Thank you for the information, much appreciated!
Latest update still can't pair a Note 10 pen.
I have no issues with Note 10 lite spen on my Note 20 Ultra.
Every thing that i tested worked just fine.
I also can confirm the pen is equally responsive like the pen that came with Note 20.

How'd you get them to pair?
Fwiw...I have spare note 20 pens (original samsung) that I can not get to pair with my note 20 as well. Only pen I can get to work is the original. Its just tries to learn when you click reset s pen setting.

I dont explicitly pair it....it just works.
Switching btw pens for writing alternatively takes a split second delay to respond though.

Just bought a Targus stylus today. It works well for misc. scribbles, but if you want to do serious note taking it doesn't work very well. Parts of letters are blanked out, almost like a pencil skipping across paper. I have tried several different notepad applications, all with roughly the same results. The pen and the NC screen might have a 50-50 split on blame. I've also found that the pen works better if held at close to a 90deg angle to the screen - which isn't very natural/comfortable for writing.
All of that being said, will I take the stylus back? Probably not, it works great for keyboard input and selecting buttons/aps/etc....
If you run across a great note taking app, let me know.
I am currently working on the same goal, I'd like to take notes in class with mine. I ordered a BoxWave Stylus and a Dagi stylus. The boxwave works ok, but it requires more pressure than what's comfortable, and you can't tell where it's going to write which ends in very crappy looking letters and numbers. The Dagi sounds promising, but I haven't received it yet. I'll post up results.

Seems like a good enough app.. Don't have a stylus, I just use my finger. Although it's not great, needs some zoom adjustments.
This is a two part question.
Firstly does anyone know if there is a way to calibrate the s-pen. Mine seems ever so slightly off when writing as I would with a normal pen (on a slight angle).
I also have the bamboo feel but that is even worse (around 2-3 mm off).
Next question is are there any other s-pen out that like the bamboo feel? I like the bigger size of it as it's more comfortable for writing with but accuracy seems to be the issue with some third part pens. I'm surprised there issue nothing from Samsung already for the note 5. I understand there are the pen holder or the bt pen but those are for older devices so I'm not sure how accurate they are or compatible.

Can you make sure that there is no cover when trying, as magnetic covers or even flip covers cause the S-pen to be inaccurate.
in older models, magnet closure cases made a huge difference.

Try typing in *#0*# in your dialer. This will bring up the integrated hardware test. There should be one for S-Pen (not touch) and try it on that screen. If it does not pass the test, then you are probably looking at a hardware failure/malfunction.
Broke my S pen when my phone fell. Any good sites to get a replacement?

Good information to know just in case .... one never knows when 'Ol Murphy will decide to put his most famous law into action. ... " Anything that can go wrong usually will."
I know this is an old post, but I am trying to find a gold s-pen. Samsung doesn't sell them on their site. To get mine warranties will take over a month. I have seen them on Amazon but really no where else. Wondering if anyone has tried them and any issues. Where do you recommend?

For what it is worth...
I have both a NOTE 3 and a NOTE 5
The 5 I only bought recently and the Stylus hole was blocked and there was some weird other stylus somehow wedged into it.
The previous owner knew he was selling me a duffer but there we go.
Anyway, I managed to get it out and I bought a new stylus for it, but the bloody thing was not quite right... It was something like about 1.5mm off down and right. I am very very good with sizes and so trust me, its more than 1mm but not quite 2mm but thats by the sideways... I just assumed that the bloody thing needs calibrating to this stylus.
Anyway, it was some time later that I thought... Why not try the note 3 and 5 styluses on each other... They both work just fine, but guess what? It was not the screen that needed calibrating at all? - the stylus is to blame.
The Note 5 stylus is wonky just the same on the Note 3 and the Note 3 Stylus is perfect on the Note 5
If only I could swap them over?
But there you go... Maybe its a new stylus or a replacement stylus you should be looking for and not a calibration of the screen?
yeah mines a few mm's off as well. its very annoying.
There is also a waycom test in the integrated hardware test menu (this would be good for seeing how your s-pen registers on the screen)
Also you may want to try another N5 s-pen (if you know someone that has one see how it does, the one you have may have a defect)
You can take off the cover on the button of the spen and there's a tuning adjuster under it. Factory is set to be off a little.

I tried Note 4 stylus on Note 5 and it felt like a Note 7 stylus on Note 7. Note 5 stylus is useless. in comparison.
So stupid that companies still make Note cases with friggin battery clips on them. But then again there seems to be a fair amount of people who buy these Note devices but rarely use the S-Pen which is bizarre to me.
Hi, sorry for a silly question, but ... 'm currently using a simple $5 stylus, how does S-pen differ? (considering they say it's the major point of Note8 vs S8+ and it comes at $90 higher price, at least in my country)
My assumptions:
* sharpness
* durability / build quality
* can be carried with the phone inside it
* integration (I think it launches some kind of note pad when ejected with turned off screen? not sure)
anything above incorrect, anything besides the above?
Thank you
There are software features to go along with the s-pen, my favorite being smart select. It can be used to select text and translate it as well as cutout a specific part of an image. I like to use that feature to make other pics.
The spen to me is way better the any 3rd party stylus could be.
1. The spen is always there. It slides into the phone and no new to look for it.
Its wireless touch. Which means you can hover over the screen and do different things. Like translate, mark highlight.
The tip is smaller then most 3rd party. Letting you see more of what your doing.
The screen off memo works great. I ise it all the time. Pull the spen out and the screen goes black. Write your note then out it back in and it save. If you need to see the note again or add to it. Tap it from the lock screen or pull the spen out again.
Has a button on the side which can controller things like earse or go back.
Its has touch. So if you apply more or pess pressure it can simulate that and drawings.
Of you can go to a store and play around with the spen.
To me its great
Pixel level precision, not very important for everyday task but once you want to do real work then there is no substitute.
I tried plastic and rubber tipped pens before: Out of 3 stylus I originally purchased, I lost 2 within few weeks and I know the last one is somewhere in the house, but no idea exactly where. And even when I had them, they were never with me, when I needed them. I use Note phones for most of the last 4 yrs and have not lost one s-pen, it's always with the phone and it will sound warning if pen left behind. Also the precision, functionality and extra programs that come along are unique to Note series. I use my phone 24/7 and s-pen about 50% of the time (it's like a mouse on my computer) and at this point I don't care much for any other phone outside of Note series. Besides, it just happens Note 8 is one the best phones money can buy right now. Now, I don't know if $90 is a big deal for you, it won't make any difference for me and I can save much more elsewhere. BTW if you're on a tight budget, maybe you should look at phones like Blu, you save much more than $90 and they almost as good. If it wasn't for s-pen I would probably look at them closely myself.
Thanks a lot everyone
Yea it probably isn't a big deal, just wanted to know what is it about when deciding

Hello friends:
Hope to find a solution to this problem...
So... a friend asked me to check her phone (Galaxy Note 9) because the S pen wasn't working properly. It was possible to use the commands when pressing the S pen button, but whenever I tried to use the S pen to navigate through the screen it was completely useless, the screen doesn't responded to the S pen.
I have a Galaxy Note 8 and I tried the Galaxy Note 9's S pen on it and worked as charm.
I did try these solutions:
1.- Soft Reset
2.- Reboot in Safe Mode
3.- Reset S Pen
None of them worked
HELP!!! I really wanted to impress my friend she's georgeus AF!!
Try the instructions here https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01001835/#change-the-s-pen-color
As a side note, don't rely on fixing her s-pen to impress her, this could just lead to you becoming tech support for her.
Just be you and you'll be fine.
Of course, if being tech support for people is your thing, then go get your girl!
Does Note9 have a screen protector on? Some cheap quality screen protectors/films cause this issue. Also, check if she already has a S pen in the note! (she might be testing your tech skills) default Note setting will not allow you to use second pen if one is already in the Note

Hey go to display settings and enable touch sensitivity. Just try doing so :fingers-crossed:
if note 9 is in a protective case, remove it. magnet case cause problems with s pen functionality.
Go to a test mode and try again. If not working then there is a problem with digitizer and possibly service required. Try hard reset before sending for repair

Hello,
I need some help from the xda community.
Just recently bought S21 Ultra, but I have an issue while using S pen with any application that has push sensitivity recognition just in one spot.
For example 'Infinite painter' or 'art flow' with sensitivity brush like 6B pencil.
I'm not completely sure that it is hardware (display) issue of this phone or all S21 Ultra have this issue.
I want to ask someone to try it either to confirm or deny. If it is the issue of this particular phone, I still have some time to change the device.
Thanks for your help!

Okay well in that case I would say a faulty digitizer, I guess you should get it replaced ( under warranty )
I've seen many users having a similar issue which was triggered by a magnetic case thats why I asked about it ;-)

yeah, I've googled this issue, I know about magnets. But it looks like there is something underneath the screen that produces some magnetic interference. And it works with very big pressure... I was just wondering if everybody has this issue and just don't care\know, or it is just me. That's why I've asked somebody to test it.

So, as I understand - you did try S-pen with any application that support sensitivity recognition in this area and it works? The general notepad or any other application that is just for writing works in this area of the screen. The problem is only with push-level recognition.
How do I enable the pressure sensitivity?
Here is what I achieved on my S21 Ultra (snapdragon, USA t-mobile variant) using an older s-pen taken from an older note. But when I used different pressure, the Infinite Painter app acted like the pen was either on or off, but no gradients in between. Like I dragged the pen across the screen and pushed harder and softer, but the result was just no ink when too soft, and pure black when hard enough or harder. Nothing in between. Is this because my s-pen is too old, or did I need to turn on a setting in the phone or the app? I selected the 6B pencil in the app.

I don't have infinite painter or any other painting app, but I tried my S pen on Samsung notes and there doesn't seem to be any irregular spots on the screen. Both tracing and pressure work on all parts of the screen as far as I can tell. I used my Tab S7's included S-Pen.
