Different UFS 2.1 Speed - US vs EU - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I came across a post on reddit for the pixel 5 nand speed.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixe..._source=amp&utm_medium=&utm_content=post_body
I can see that they were getting 930 MB/s in sequential read, 408 MB/s in sequential write, while this is a US model. Someone else posted and achieved similar result.
Checking my own Pixel 5 from the UK, I get 800 MB/s and 200 MB/s. Which makes me think did US also get faster UFS due to the higher price along with the mmWave?
So was wondering if anyone could post there Pixel 5 Androbench and which country and see.

I get same speed as you. Probably Google sourcing different NAND storage and we got the lesser version. Ah well.

My UK Pixel 5 seems to have slightly higher read/write speeds ?

UK Pixel 5 here...

Uk pixel 5.

Free space might have an effect. Waiting for mine to arrive to test this.

This app hasn't even been updated to Android 11 yet. so your results, are pretty much worthless until we can get an updated app.

Well the US version is $100 more expensive and they don't get the free Bose headphones. So I take the "slower" speed trade any day.

We do get mmWave in our phones though, if it's ever available.

In the GSMArena review they said this:
Although Google hasn't specified (we've requested, but have yet to receive confirmation on this), we've preliminarily concluded that the Pixel 5 might be using UFS 3.0 or 3.1 storage. When tested with Androbench, the Pixel 5 is seeing significantly faster storage speeds over the Pixel 4 XL. It returned 930 MB/s in sequential read, 408 MB/s in sequential write, 189 MB/s in random read, and 204 MB/s in random write speeds.

Seems like I got the slower version in Germany. Feelsbadman

I don't live in the USA. From what I read there is about same odd for a random person to winning the lottery as getting Verizon's mm wave signal right now.

That's probably right if you were dropped in the middle of the country and went looking for a super 5G signal. However, where I live there are actually 3 blocks where you can get it. Granted those 3 blocks are 90 miles away but I can get it.

Australia here. Pixel 5 Sorta Sage. I have a second Pixel 5 here, So I'll test that tomorrow when I set it up. :good:

I'm on T-Mobile so hopefully their mmWave is more available than Verizon's. I'm in a second floor apartment and have a straight line of site view to a T-Mobile tower less than 1/4 mile away.

[Q] Can't find S3 i9305 for sale

hi guys,
so im all set to pick up the s3 i9305 with 2gb ram and LTE. I'm in Dubai UAE but somehow all the malls & phone shops only seem to have the i9300 model. Now im aware the i9305 version released few weeks back but i cant seem to find any for sale... not even online!! the iphone 5 was on sale 3 days after it was available in september through grey market at mad prices... but the s3 i9305... cant find it anywhere! whats up with that? any insight??
TIA!
Google it - loads out there, even on Fleabay. You may have to import it. Presumably you have 4G in your area to be so desperate...
I saw a Samsung shop in Dubai, not sure what mall was tho, main one for sure..
If they don't I wouldn't bother as a few fakes are floating around out there.. Check it and make sure before you buy

1GB of RAM is enough, we just need it to be managed better.
Custom Roms already include some tweaks, i can run 7 apps together without closing / no lag with my current configuration (see signature).
If 4G isn't really that important to you, get a regular international version.

Trust us, either 1 gb or 2 gb you will be satisfied. I have the 1 gb version and works just smooth. Also as you see, there is better support for it than 9305.
However we still feel a bit phished by Samsung with all those different models, but as you see, most phones are 1 gigs (including iphone 5). With 2 gigs you will only waste the ram. Also, feels good to be one of those 20+ millions having this gorgeous phone, it's really feels good, because you know how much support you can get. Also 20+ millions can't be wrong

Actually, the LTE is still only a project on a piece of paper here, probably will start rolling out next year. So I'm feeling scammed a bit only because of the ram, as I paid about 800 4 months ago for my S3, now the price dropped and with the same price you can get the 2 gigs version. Nothing more and no big deal.
Btw, with my 3g I'm getting 8-9 mpbs download and around 4-6 mbps upload, which is more than enough for a mobile phone. Before yesterday, my home adsl connection was 10 mbps down and 768 kbps up and I never complained LTE still needs a better coverage, world wide coverage and maybe same frequencies in every country. Also, the lte is killing your battery much faster. Most of people still have no 4g and they started the development of the 5g lol.

[Wow] Nexus 7 32gb uses faster memory

Reading up on some daily news, I came across an article reviewing the new N7 hardware and the 4.2 update.
The reviewer soon found out that the 32gb unit was much snappier in booting and loading apps. So he put it to the test against an 8gb unit and the results are clear.
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2012/11/googles-nexus-7-gets-a-fresh-coat-of-paint-for-the-holidays/
Much faster read and access times on the new 32gb units.

Boot time.........................................................39.7 seconds.............28.5 seconds
Launching GLBenchmark Egypt HD test..............11.2 seconds...............8.8 seconds
Downloading and installing 27.4MB application.....22.5 seconds.............16.1 seconds

We, the first 8GB/16GB buyers, got stolen on this one.
I am not paying for a Nexus 10 after this.
So Asus aren't allowed to improve parts in later batches? That's ridiculous, it's likely that the better memory got cheaper and so was used, keeping the BOM the same with better performance. Just because they aren't Apple and don't make even a minor change a huge deal with a new version doesn't mean it's bad.

Calm down. The 16gb was faster than the 8gb from the beginning. See: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6130/the-16gb-nexus-7-storage-performance for a rundown of the difference between 8gb vs 16gb.
Looking at the numbers, its tough to say whether there is even a difference between the 16gb vs the 32gb. Someone would need to test them the same way side by side to be sure.

You didn't get "stolen", you got exactly what you paid for.
Higher capacity SSDs have always been faster. It's no surprise this is also true in tablets. The 16 GB version is also faster than the 8 GB.
Interesting, thanks.
The 16 GB version of the Nexus 7 has faster storage than the 8 GB, the Ars Technica figures are quite a bit lower than my 8GB, anyway I've never noticed a performance issue on my device.
Between the 32 GB & 16 GB I doubt there is much difference, in a previous thread I asked an early buyer of the 32 GB model to Androbench it against their 16 GB, the result was similar.

Storage in current phones / tablets is not SSD but eMMC, both use NAND memory but there are major differences.
This is common practise with solid state storage, a 128gb SSD will be slower than a 256gb even though they're made my the same manufacturer. A 64gb version will be faster than the 32gb version. Nothing to get pissed about, just they way things worked.
Probably but seems the gains are pretty large. Regardless of the reason, I still found it fascinating that there are such big differences between the units sizes. Very good knowledge if you are on the fence about saving a few bucks on memory. No longer is the battle just whether you can survive with a set space but also picking a slower one.
Sell your 16 and buy a 32 and profit?

Reading the arstechnica article, is not clear if the WIFI 32GB version is faster as well. They only tested the 3G 32GB version. Do you think the WIFI version would have the same boost on nand?
There's also something humorous about people complaining about being "had" on a device with little to no profit margin.

Even funnier is I bet if you randomly picked 10 8GB owners and gave them a 32GB version 0 of them would notice any difference in speed.
The difference in speed is as close to being placebo as you can get without actually being placebo.

Well. As an 8GB owner, I stumbled upon this thread while trying to figure out why my Nexus 7 felt so sluggish, so my gut feeling says that this may not be so placebo after all.
I bought the 8GB version on impulse due to a ridiculously good offer, so neither the slow and little RAM, or the fact that the left side of the screen almost seem to come unglued trouble me. But coming from the original Samsung Tab + the SGII phone, I must admit I'm a bit disappointed in the (lack of) speed and snappiness of the Nexus... Had expected more after two years. Ok, the resolutions is higher and the screen is nice, but that's it.
So my Ford Escort doesnt go as fast as the Ford Mustang and I AM PISSED!
I just assumed all cars made by Ford, even with different specs, would achieve the same road results.
Dupe me and stuff.
I can say honestly that it is no placebo. I have a 16gb and also bought a 32gb a week ago. Within 5 minutes, the difference was very apparent. To get a better feel, I took the 16 back to stock via fastboot and faced them off on equal ground. I did not benchmark, mainly because two 16's can differ in a benchmark. Would not have proved a thing. So, I went by feel. Both on the same wifi network, the 32 crushed the 16 in dl time, install time, and just overall feel. Scrolling, reaction and graphics were a big difference. I installed NFS mw on both, and the 32 was much much smoother. Those are just my personal findings, for what its worth.

No, but I know how to tell which is downloading faster and installing quicker, which is lagging more and whatnot. Sometimes, you dont need a benchmark to do something as simple as monitor time elapsed. Sometimes in the age of technology, a stopwatch and simultaneous side by side comparison is still very useful. Overthinking can occasionally be a problem.
And if your gonna ask a question like" Did you run a test" and then answer you own question with incorrect and sarcastic assumption, just save your time and dont ask. As a result, I wont answer it, and let you look like the fool all alone.

Thats very true, but I compared both stock. If the 16 has a custom kernel, then the 32 needs to have the same in order for a comparison to be anywhere near accurate. You could compare a stock gm engine to a blown 383 too, but it would be pointless. Dont need a dragstrip to figure that one out.

Not to be a Debbie Downer here, but we've seen variations larger than this in N7's running the same specs, ROMs, etc. Hence the many differences in the "lag thread" and many other threads. A test between 2 units isn't even remotely conclusive.

Who may consider buying an upgraded Nexus 4

Depending if thats whats announced next week. The improvements could mean bigger storage, better camera, LTE compatibility, better battery life, and of course KLP. If they keep it in the same price range I'm all in
Especially if they dont even announce the Nexus 5 release date.

Maybe, but probably not. If they do release a heavily upgraded model for the same $299 price point...google better pull an apple and give me something though, considering I just bought a n4 a couple of weeks ago.

If its only the 32gb and LTE spec upgrade I won't bat an eye. On average with T-Mo I'm downloading 6-10mbps. Coming from sprint where that's near their LTE speeds, I will settle with H+ and 16gb just fine!
I doubt I'll upgrade until 2014, as I plan to keep onto this phone for a while. 16GB is more than enough for me and LTE isn't in my are yet.

Same here. I use the tablet for HD content so I still have nearly 6GB free on my phone and T-Mobile's HSPA+ is, in practice, as fast as Verizon's LTE and faster than Sprint's. LTE is still half baked.
I'll hold for a redesigned phone. Im knid of secretly hoping that LG was bidding but that HTC will win making a Nexus version of the One. Although LG has been the best supporter of the Nexus program so far (outside of the shortages, which were Google's fault).

I will only upgrade if it has a removable battery, 1080P, LTE, and 32/64GB.

I'm gonna hold out as well. As for the resale. Once the 5 is for sale I'm expecting the resale to drop by at least 30%. This device has the hardware to stay up to date for at least another year.

No real need to upgrade for me. The rumored changes are LTE, 4.3, and more storage. We already have LTE (I get 25Mbps down in an unannounced LTE city), we know 4.3 is going to hit this device shortly after its unveiling, and I'm fine with 16GB storage.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I don't really miss LTE. Sure, it's nice for downloading files quicker, but I really don't notice a difference in how fast web pages load. The only way though that I could upgrade would be if the current N4 retains some resale value.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
The only thing that would interest me is a bigger battery. I could care less about LTE. I don't need an additional radio killing my battery even faster. As for more storage? Not necessary. I don't keep a bunch of junk on my phone and only one nandroid so I regularly have between 2 and 4 GB free.

I don't like iPhone just because of that( well and iOS sucks and the market sucks and I'm not a 12 year old girl) but honestly I would be all over it if it had more storage and LTE.
Carbonized and francofied N4
The HSPA+ is not available everywhere in Chicago area. You get a lot of E or 3G. Let alone the LTE..
if itll have 32gb and better battery, im gonna upgrade. otherwise im sticking with the 'old' one, dont care about lte (hspa+ is perfectly enough) and im happy with the camera.

I already get t mo lte and all my music is on Google play so to me unless there's like a 64gb I wouldn't even think of it I'm more interested in what the new N7 will be like

First of all, this has nothing to do with the d850 in any way. In the future, post elsewhere.
Also, i wouldnt trust anything except very well-known brands because usually lesser known brands have terrible software. Just my two cents.

Sounds awesome...little too good to be true or even if it is I'd price it pretty high probably around the 5-6 hundred range. If you get it let us know how it goes

Seen this earlier.... You know it looks to be well thought out. I'd consider it def if what I read about 100$ cheaper then most flagships...... But for some reason these teasers usually end with disappointment ...but I could be completely wrong *cough* fire phone *cough cough * lol
Illusion bugs WITH logcats post here : http://tinyurl.com/qzwu9f4 Will help dev out a lot ! Dev UNSUBCRIBED Thanks *2SHAYNEZ*
Depending on the price.. I might have to purchase one... The SPEC's are comparable or better to most of the "BIG BOYS". IE Samsung LG HTC SONY ect......

Once I found out that Saygus is a start-up in the US, the price no longer mattered to me(I want to support US companies). So far, it looks like Saygus is offering everything that I am looking for in a smartphone that bucks the trend of phablet-sized phones. It has been far too long since I've enjoyed a phone with a removable battery and has memory expansion. I wanted to believe that maybe Samsung's Project Zero meant it was going to buck the trend and go back to the phones of 2011 in terms of size but the leaks of the frame and specs made me lose hope. I almost caved into buying another Galaxy S4 as a spare phone for myself or compromised for a Z3 Compact. That is, until now.
PLease can we get a full dedicated dev team on this phone? i really want it, but i cant get it unless i can rom swap like i do with nexus devices. As we know now the phone will have an unlocked bootloader/prerooted. So it should be easy to get twrp/cw on to this beast.
I wont be surprised if cyanogen jumps it soon.

Cyanogen or CyanogenMod? The community of CM may, but the company Cyanogen has a 1 time history of abandoning startups.

mod lol, i meant the community.
I am all over this phone. Definitely going to be my next device.
Site opened up preorders yesterday. $549, $50 off if you get in now. Wonder if it will work effectively in Australia? Be good to see band specs.
Will they be working with carriers to offer this at a discount? I'd rather not have to pay full price but I will seriously consider it.

Couldn't say since I'm an Aussie and not interested in sprint and at&t and whatnot. Atm though I doubt they have even got to the manufacturing large scale stage. Their V1 never saw the light of day. I would think if not enough pre orders are reached it will die in the arse
---------- Post added at 07:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:21 AM ----------
Sorry for the double post. Just to add hype because I would like to see this phone see the light...
Harmon Kardon speakers
Kevlar on the back and sides
Edge to edge screen horizontally
Qi charging
Multiboot enabled from SD card
1080 screen (I have the nexus 6 and a 2k screen is not the be all and end all)
2 controllers for the battery extending life
An external camera button
And more...
This is what I would have wished from a new nexus 5 2015
But the question is if you preorder, will it get made? And WHEN? I see no estimates on timeline at all!

This! I had tweeted them and emailed the email they said to send questions to. Never got a response. I'm assuming that means not any time soon... as s result unless they respond I'm not pre ordering. Could be months from now... If it ends up being soon then I can afford the extra 50 bucks... I really think they shot themselves in the foot going with the 801. This is clearly a spec nerd phone. And I'm sure a lot of us would rather have spent an extra 50 or whatever bucks to get the 810... I feel like the 801 is a side step to the 800 on my nexus 5... all it kind of feels like paying 600 bucks for a phone that's the same speed as my 400 dollar nexus that's over a year old...
Did anyone else notice that preorder email says that MSRP is over 900 bucks? Lol.
Yeah no way am I ordering without even a guess at a delivery date. I doubt they get many orders without one.

The V² will work on all the carrier networks in the world.
GSM: Quad band(850/900/1800/1900MHz)
CDMA: 850/1900MHz
UMTS: Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8
LTE: Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26
So....it appears to support all T-Mobile bands. Nice.

Worth getting ?

Hi I am interested in getting this device but is it worth it in 2018? Also I noticed there is two models XT1 103 and XT1100 which one is better ?

I definitely think so. With the 8.1 ROMS available and discussed in this thread and after having my battery replaced yesterday my Nexus 6 is running great. The XT1103 is the North America version and the XT1100 is the International version. The differences are discussed in this thread.

Yes for $150 USD for mint condition. All Nexus 6 are the same regardless of model number or origin (AT&T, VZW, TMobile, etc)
I bought mine 2 months ago and its amazing.

I disagree with both that they are the same regardless of model number and that they are the same no matter which carrier.
Note the difference in the bands between the two models:
Model FCC id Carriers/Regions
XT1103 IHDT56QD1 US
CDMA bands: 0 / 1 / 10
GSM bands: Quad
UMTS bands (3G): 1 / 2 / 4 / 5 / 8
LTE bands: 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 12 / 13 / 17 / 25 / 26 / 29 / 41
CA DL bands: B2-B13, B2-B17, B2-29, B4-B5, B4-B13, B4-B17, B4-B29
XT1100 IHDT56QD2 International
CDMA bands: N/A
GSM bands: Quad
UMTS bands (3G): 1 / 2 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 8 / 9 / 19
LTE bands: 1 / 3 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 19 / 20 / 28 / 41
CA DL bands: B3-B5, B3-B8
Additionally, AT&T models are carrier locked and require an unlock code to use on other carriers. Other carrier models are carrier unlocked and can be used on any carrier.
I am on my second one - I just got a near-mint 64GB off of Swappa for $160. Couldn't be happier. Need to look into the battery replacement, since @alryder makes it sound like a big jump in performance can be had.
As far as I'm concerned...Still the best phone out there and it wont cost you $800-$1000. My two run way better now on an Oreo Rom than they ever did on the aging stock ROMS. Sorry T-Mo and Google....I'll keep my phones AND my money.
Same. Been using mine for 2.5 years. Had battery replaced recently and this phone soars. No phone has my full interest to pull me away. And now that I finally jumped onto Oreo 8.1 (nitrogen os 3.8). I have zero interest in a new or different phone. I just can't give up the large display and stereo speakers. Sure there are phones with these features but hundreds of dollars for the price. I'll hold onto this phone for quite a bit longer

I think a Pixel XL, used or re-furb in the $300 range would be a better option at this point. 6 is a good phone, but it is old.
@Note10.1Dude: You're willing to lose half an inch in screen real-estate and stereo speakers, for what? A more modern processor and an additional GB of RAM.
Thanks, but that's not a trade I'd be willing to make. There just isn't enough there to compel one to switch. Had you said a Pixel 2 XL though you might have gotten my attention.

I hear you, different perspective. The Pixel 2 price makes it not of interest to me. The original XL can be had in the $300 range which makes it more comparable to getting a 6 at this point. It also has a headphone jack.
I'm not trading my 6 for an XL, but if I had to get a phone right now, I would get an XL before I got another 6, mostly because the XL is still supported and will have security updates for another 16+ months.

Granted there are no more stock ROM's from Google for the Nexus 6, but many third party ROM's are still providing the monthly security updates .I am running Beltz, which is based on Oreo and very close to stock and as long as the developer sticks around I can plan on updates at least as long as there are Oreo updates, and probably longer. If the developer moves on I'll just switch to another third party ROM. I'd definitely buy another Nexus 6 before I bought anything else.
The past 2,5 years I've had a 1+2, then a 1+3T, then an HTC U Ultra.
Last month I gave the HTC to my wife, since I came across a pristine Nexus 6 64Gb. I haven't regretted it one bit.
Although the HTC has alsmost double the antutu score of the Nexus, the latter performs brilliantly and I can barely feel the difference. And those speakers... Magnificent...
Two things bothering me at first were a) the lack of a fingerprint scanner and b) the micro-usb charging port vs the type c one. I bought a Qi fast charger from Samsung and haven't bothered with the cable since. I'm also currently running Beltz 8.1 and face recognition substitutes for the fingerprint scanner almost as well (except in dark places or when I'm wearing my glasses).
And all this for 170 euros. With this kind of money, all you can get around here is a 16gb Samsung A3 or a Honor 6X.

I went back to my N6 after using a N6P for six months, and like you the only two things I missed were the fingerprint sensor and USB-C charger. How do you find the Qi fast charger works compared to plugging it in? Do you get pretty fast charging speeds?

It would be rather optimistic to call them pretty fast. It takes 1h 20m to fully charge with Motorola's plug in turbo charger and about 2h with Samsung's Qi charger.

Make that a 2xl then... I went back to the smaller pixel 3 to replace my Nexus 6. I miss the big screen, but everything else is so much nicer. The 3 more years of support is what really pushed me over. If I could get a replacement Nexus 6 with current insides and future support I would. I think the Pixel 3a XL is probably the way to go now for a "reasonably" priced option.
